Best Lamb Biryani in Sutton Highly Recommended

I just ordered for The Raj for the first time on Just Eat and I can guarantee it will be the last time! I have pretty average expectations when it comes to a curry and none of these were met. It was clear with how quickly it came the food wasn't fresh at all. The korma had clearly been reheated - the chicken was chewy and dry. The naan was greasy and the mint sauce orange in colour. Somehow it still tasted of mint ?!? But with a vile after taste. Oh and the rice had no flavour whatsoever and was cold. I wouldn't even give that away.. .a let alone have the cheek to charge for it! Steer clear

I used to absolutely love the Raj and it used to be my favourite takeaway. However, a couple weeks ago we ordered our usual and it seems the recipes must have changed. The lamb was awful and so tough and the chips were different to normal. The sauce for the korma didn’t taste good either. Disappointed to have to write this as I have always been a loyal The Raj customer.

** UPDATE BELOW **Very poor. Never had lamb that so tough to chew on. My jaws ache the morning after and that was after 2 spoonfuls. Sauce was more like a paste, very gloopy. Ordered Keema rice, the portion was considerably less than the Pilau rice. Will not be ordering again. Extremely disappointed Update. Was contacted by the restaurant on Saturday only for them to say they would call back. Considering I work in the service sector, their customer service is not what you would expect. Will not be ordering again and neither will I be recommending to any friends or family.

Ordered via Uber but restaurant was doing the delivery. It arrived more than an hour late - communicated with the Raj via Whatsapp as they were not picking up the phone, told me two times food was on its way and arriving within 5mn (wasn't..). I get that things happen but 1/ our delivery address was 7mn from the Raj and 2/ restaurant should just have been honest with the delay. Food was good, service and communication really frustrating.

Ordered a lamb balti. Meat was undercooked and not edible.

Very good food! Ordered the lamb saag, chicken shashlick, pilau rice, lamb chops, saag aloo and tarka daal, including various Naan’s! Everything was delicious and temperature hot. Will definitely be ordering from here again!

Got a delivery via just eat, second time ordered with them. Food was good, delivered quickly and food was hot. Good flavoured saag paneer and chicken tikka madras. Only criticism would be naan could be bigger. Just eat driver appeared to have knocked on a few of my neighbours doors before ours but that’s not the restaurants fault.

Popadoms were soggy, peshwari naan didn’t arrive, dips tasted like pure sugar and curries were bland. Chips and onion bahjis were good though :-) Won’t be going again!

Ordered from here last night and the food was lukewarm and tasted awful. Took 1.5 hours to come and when it arrived, it looked/tasted like a ready meal. The prawn purée was quite nice and onion bahji’s were standard which is what gives you this 1 star instead of 0. The korma lacked seasoning/taste and was very bland. The lamb madras had the same problems as the korma but with soggy bits of fat and it was mild?? Even though it’s supposed to be hotter than medium. The cheese naan had no taste and basically no cheese. The peshwari tasted like old coconut dust… I would post pictures of the food to show how bad it was but I don’t know how. Defo one of the worst Indians I’ve ever had, which is a shame as I needed a regular curry house.

Awful service, decided to take payment from me online and then request cash from me. The person who works there on the phone is rude and I will never order from there again, as they don’t know how to treat loyal customers.

Very disappointed. Mediocre food. We specifically stated we were new customers, looking for a new Indian restaurant. We paid extra for poppadoms which were not delivered. We tried to ring, to get refunded for them - phone not answered. Will move on as we won’t be ordering here again. The minimum we expect is to receive what we pay for.

Absolutely disgusting! got my order WRONG ordered just the sauce I'm vegetarian and had a lump of chicken in it. Food and sauces have no taste my mother thought it was disgusting aswell tried to get my mother a nice meal last night waste of money. So we used to order all the time. It was the best indian food in the area. We ordered again the other day, nowhere near as good as it was. It's the Eminem of indian food. Response to owner - no point, the food was edible, we've eaten it now. However due to the major taste in the food I will now be ordering from my second favourite indian takeaway.

We absolutely love food from here. Great value and really tasty.

Pink chicken, watered down & excessively oily. Tried to leave a reasonable review on Just Eat but my comments were taken out so I have to leave a review here. I’m not one to complain but when the food can cause harm to health it’s a problem. Delivery took longer than the 5-10 minutes it took them to make the food and notify me it’s out for delivery which felt suspicious. Always used to order from here, but if I can’t get properly cooked food at 9pm just because they’re closing at 10pm it’s careless & I won’t be ordering again. Wouldn’t be writing this review if it wasn’t making me feel sick. No refund either as I paid with cash.

I’m very sorry I have only rated one star when I rang my order in the person I spoke to was very rude after giving my order I asked how much it was and the response was I don’t know yet I have the order in my had and then he put the phone down I would of liked to have paid by card but did not get the chance so when my order had arrived it was£35.05 I payed that then I was very disappointed in the food and I was not offered the 15% off which was advised

Super bad food AND it’s NOT INDIAN Food. Ordered Tadka Dal and received boiled dal with no spices. Ordered Paneer Shaslik and it had no spice whatsoever and full of shameless food colouring. I have had poor Indian food quite a few times while trying new Indian restaurants but this one takes the place of uncooked bad food that claims to be Indian on the very top of my list. The worst part is, out of sheer curiosity and concern that they genuinely might have parcelled uncooked food I called them and the response was call Deliveroo as you ordered through them!!! This basically summed up everything. Total avoid…zero star.

I've been ordering curry from The Raj years and I won't order from anywhere else. The food is fresh and tasty, the staff are lovely and delivery is quick. Highly recommended.

I’m a local to Sutton so The Raj has been my go-to for a long time. I travel between the UK and USA often and I haven’t found a place that compares to The Raj’s food. I crave it when I’m away! Even my American Husband loves it. There’s so much variety I have yet to try new dishes, but my favourites are Mushroom Biryani (spice flavoured rice) with Tarka Daal (garlic lentils), Chicken Korma (the Husband’s favourite) and a side of Brinjal Bhaji (curried aubergines) accompanied with a Garlic Naan and maybe a Poppadum (all to share of course!) I’ve always experienced excellent customer service, Raj himself is very welcoming when I come to order in person, but when we get food delivered the food always comes hot and fresh. The meats are tender and the dishes are so flavoursome! Not to mention the delivery drivers are polite and courteous. Thank You Raj, keep it up!

After fancying a curry for a few months I finally gave in and ordered, food was hot & arrived quick. Good portions and reasonably priced. Food tasted GREAT. Will be coming back here from now on.

Was over an hour. Main was revolting and my partners main didn’t even turn up. Rang restrictions they say it was late cause of busy time. Avoid like the plague this is awful food and greasy as anything. Don’t even think about it.

We got a takeaway from here and it was rather mixed. The naan and rice were decent, however, two of the dishes were swimming in oil which wasn't very pleasant and the stuffed paratha was barely stuffed. It was good to try somewhere different but not sure I would return in a hurry unfortunately given that there are better options available.

I ordered a takeaway from here to be delivered, I hadn't used them before..... it took quite a long time for it to be delivered....approx 55 mins,when it arrived it was bearly warm and the order wasn't right,the mushroom biryani that I ordered and was looking forward to turned out to be a vegetable one and one of the other curry dishes had leaked quite badly in the bag, the chicken madras only had 5 pieces of chicken in it,the flavours of the dishes were good and the portions were an adequate size.... But the sauces were a little runny and watery...... I don't know if I would use them again or recommend them to others???? Probably not!!

Bland curry poor quality and we have had better elsewhere

Served me a chicken korma full of coconut, after ordering a butter chicken. Then are telling me thay is how they make butter chicken. Well im sorry but even i know butter chicken isnt light yellow in colour and taste of coconut...!

I have been using the Raj for over 2 years, the food is so fresh and has amazing flavours, lately because of obvious reasons I haven't been able to use them as much as I would like to but had a meal tonight and just WOW they are still amazing, thank you and compliments the the chef's and to Raj himself, not an option for 6 stars but if there was I would choose it, I would recommend anybody to try once and I bet you never go anywhere else.

The best Indian I have ever tasted!

Lamb madras and tarka dhaal super oily. Lamb madras also lacking flavour. Lamb Korma we asked for very mild and it wasn't. Stuffed paratha barely stuffed and cheese nan with next to no cheese. On our avoid list for the future.

Ordered here for the first time and was very nicely surprised. Fast delivery, lovely food and I even had a discount from Ubereats, what more could I ask for? The Sag aloo was delicious, along with the lamb biryani and tandoori chicken! Good portion sizes so we had left overs for lunch, thanks!

Very unpleasant behaviour and I had to leave

Ordered and delivered very promptly, I ordered the balti special which was all great until I tried the lamb, it was very tough and unfortunately there was more of that than any other meat so I spat out most of the meal which was very disappointing..! Apart from that the other meats, rice and garlic bread was great. Over all 4 out of 5* would have been 5*

Absolute disgrace to Indian cuisine. What you serve is NOT Indian food. It is Bangladeshi, which is different. If your restaurant is doing well and has glorified reviews, that is good for you, but what I experienced is certainly NOT INDIAN food. I feel sad for all the other customers (non-native Indians), who taste your food and believe it to be Indian. It is not. Their standards have now been set extremely low.. I placed my order at 1800 and it didn't turn up until 1930. I called the restaurant in between and they said they're running extremely busy..when the driver turned up I asked him if they're running busy today and he replied, "No, not at all, everyone's just busy watching the football world cup.".. I can still live with the time it took for the food to arrive. What I couldn't stand, was the horrible taste and quality of the food. Chicken was thawed from frozen, I could tell, no succulence at all. Curry dishes were awful with added sugar and cream in every single recipe, along with an unapologetic and unnecessary amount of food colouring. Even the naan was sweet and tasteless. Worst Indian food experience I've ever had. I'd prefer to starve next time. Do yourself a favour and buy a ready to eat Indian meal from the supermarket, it's far better and more 'authentic'.

Having moved to the area a couple of years ago from Tooting, London’s second curry capital, it took us ages to find a decent Indian takeaway. So many of the local takeaways are bland, lazy cooking- the Raj is excellent, however. Really good, tasty, interesting food. Pick this one over the others.

Have ordered a delivery at this take away and at the end of my order told it would be 1hour it never arrived I tried many times ringing but no answer it finally arrived one and a half hours after first ordering it .I sent it back to the shop and would not order from there again.

Absolutely terrible service ordered at 6pm for an 8pm delivery contacted at 815 to ask where our delivery was and told it was on route..... called back at 845 to be told manager was out and our food had still not left the shop.... will never order from this mob again..... still waiting for my refund JOKERS

the worst curry i have had in a while, the prawn pathia was bland and watery and the lamb Jalfrezi was really hot but had no flavour, like they were trying to cover up the crappy taste. and the lamb was so chewy! its like nothing was cooked fresh even though we ordered early for dinner! very dissapointed. would not eat from here.

Worst food I have ever had so far. Ordedered Butter Chicken , but they make it as sweet chicken , even by baby spit it out. Another dish Tawa Lamb , cooked worst and used fried zonion from Indian Grocery shop. Giving one star also waste

I ordered butter chicken , but it tastes like sweet coconut dessert with tandoori chicken. Absolute dissapointment . I really wonder how this resturant is still surviving .

So I ordered from here after seeing the highly rated reviews from others. Was not disappointed at all!! Food arrived lovely and hot, right on time and most importantly absolutely delicious!! Best Indian takeaway I have had in a very long time and I would not order from anywhere else. Well done great service AND food!

The food was exceptional, arrived well before the estimated time, well packaged and hot. I normally can't be bothered to write a review but the food was so delicious I have made the effort to spread the word!! I ate Lamb Peshwari which had a good portion of tender lamb, Haryali Kebab as starter. Sag aloo was a good portion size to share and good ratio of spinach to potato and also complimentary poppadom and pickles which is always a treat! Am looking forward to ordering from them again and feel confident they will deliver to the same standard. Definitely would recommend Haweli of Cheam.
