The Railway Spice in Shropshire

Had a takeaway from here on Saturday. First time we have used the railway spice and the food was simply amazing. Will be coming again!

This has always been my favourite restaurant. Even after it changed hands it has been a great place to dine. However . . . . . I have been twice in the last two weeks. The food is, as always, amazing. The service and dining experience, however, is seriously lacking. This goes from the new 'manager' answering the phone with just 'hello' through to saying she would bring the bill after our starters! We gave the benefit of the doubt and went again. We had literally put out cutlery down when the bill and credit card machine arrived. It wasnt as of they had customers waiting for a table, as in the 2 1/2 hours we were there, we were the only diners. And this on both recent visits. As great as the food is here, I like to enjoy the total dining experience. I feel incredibly let down by owners and new management of this restaurant. I felt undervalued. The 'manager' obviously wanted us to leave so she could leave early (we actually left.at 8.30pm). Such a shame.

4 of us went to the railway spice on 18/09/21. The place was spotless, the service was brilliant and the food was fantastic, couldn't fault it in any way. Definitely go there again.

Not worth bothering with. I apologised to my guests for such a poor takeaway meal. Blue water next door is much better.

By far best value and quality for Indian food in the area. We moved here 3 years ago and I have taken both my family and clients there for dinner and I must say that it is a great place with fantastic service and food. The portions are massive (watch out for the naans... you can feed an army). If you fancy take always you can ask for a key tag that gives you 10% off your take away orders... always handy when you have house parties!! Highly recommended

Tried the Railway Spice as an alternative to my regular Indian, and was extremely pleased I did. Read others reviews, and there are 3 Indian restaurants in close proximity, The Railway Spice being the newest in terms of opening, it was originally a Public House (The Railway) which has been re-invigorated as an Indian Restaurant. The menu was fairly comprehensive, and drink prices were reasonable for the area. Food and service excellent. Will visit again.

We took my parents here for a meal when they visited. With them living close to leicester they know a good Indian restaurant. They were blown away by the food, service and overall experience at The Railway Spice. Would recommend it to anyone visiting the area and I know they have told all friends and family back home about how great it is. Will definitely be eating here again. 10/10 raring from us.

This restaurant had been recommended and we are very glad we went. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. Service could not have been better. The food was also excellent- both starters and mains. Very tasty and well cooked. We shall definitely go again.

On the spur of the moment we decided to visit the Railway. The place was very busy, we hadn’t booked but we were found a table for two. Despite being very busy our orders were quickly taken. Within a few minutes we had our drinks and were chomping on popadoms. Our mains came out admittedly a little longer than it normally takes but this was no problem at all. Both mains were delicious. Overall our meals were delicious and great value. Service was friendly and efficient. We will be back.......

Decided to have a change and go to a different Indian restaurant for a change, not a patch on the others in the town. Recently refurbished and clean looking surroundings, but the food let it down. The dishes lacked any different flavour it was hard to tell the difference between them, I was pretty disappointed. On a positive note the service was very good and the prices reasonable, if I could give 3 and a half stars I would!!

Asked for a lamb tikka masala , ended up with salty dry beef in it and a chicken korma that was tasteless and didn’t taste like other kormas I had Staff were attentive until we had food Will never be returning

Food horrible oily. Taste horrible will not be visiting again. Chicken very cheap. And things in that don’t know. Will be reporting to health authorities. As stuff in food needs investigation

A good Indian meal with friends, nice food and service, reasonably priced. We particularly liked the large naans. They were also very kind about packaging up our leftovers to take home!

Came here for a family meal, I was concerned that I would not be able to eat anything on the menu as a vegan, I asked a member of staff and he went through the menu with me letting me know what contained eggs and cream, I really appreciated the effort he went to, The vegtable pakora and vegtable balti were really yummy and served really quickly especially considering there were a large family group in at the same time

our family went on New Years Eve for a meal,it was fab.We had poppadoms and chutneys,2 starters,5 main meals (one to take home for daughter),dessert and drinks,was excellent value for the price. The staff were very friendly,asked how spicy we wanted our curries,spotlessly clean,music not too loud.We were offered complimentary brandies,and also got an extra free curry along with our leftovers to take home !! Portion size is very good,too much for even my hubby! Definitely recommend and will go again soon.

Lovely food, great service & reasonable priced. They will make a curry as hot or as mild as you would like it. Naan breads are the best in town

Poppadoms, starter, main and bread/rice followed by ice cream, coffee or brandy all for less than £10 Sun to Weds. A real bargain for tasty food and good service. We go quite often as the food is the best in the area. Well worth a visit.

6 of us went on a Sunday night around 10pm as Web site said open till 12 midnight. The food was average but the thing I was annoyed about was I asked for a chicken pathia and it was so chilli hot I couldn't eat it. They should ask how hot you like it if its going to be like a vindaloo.

We visit regularly and I have to say the food is always fantastic and represents incredible value for money. The Resturant is clean and staff friendly.

Fabulous tasty fresh food. Cannot fault this place. Twice now we have ordered a banquet meal for 4 people it's £40 and both times it has fed 8 people with left overs. Really lovely food

What can we say.. Great food great quality Fantastic service and a lovely setting. Fab deals on the menu and will cook how you want it. Take home what you cant eat portions are big. Well done Railway Spice will keep coming back family friendly.

I like the spicey goodness of Indians like anyone with taste, style and delicacy. I visited the THE Railway recently with my WiFi, although she doesn't appreciate the hot and spicey curries as I do. I had a wispy and lovely spicy hot chickens korma and some RICE but my WiFi had a more European dish, nice, but it won't be available for ever due to Brexit. Whilst our meals were very good and the staff very pleasant, we had to walk a very long way to get to THE Railway. This was due to a shouty man in the car park who said I couldn't park my Dacia as it was "Private Parking". May I suggest that you stop washing cars in your car park, that way your customers won't have to walk so far and they'll have somewhere to park or is that bit private too? My WiFi was very upset. We won't come back to THE Railway because of the shouty man. Such a shame as the food was very good.

Just come back from here, everything was great. The service, the atmosphere, the staff but the food was fantastic. I had chicken pandi pasander (can't spell it)...so tasty and smooth. My partner has the spicy meat with okra, she loved hers too. The portions are big, so we bought it all home to enjoy again tomorrow. We will be back. Thank you

We had been meaning to visit the Railway Spice for a while now and finally did on Monday. It was quiet when we arrived (just before 7) but quickly filled up which added a lovely convivial atmosphere. The service was attentive; our waiter made helpful menu suggestions and explained the banquet offer to us clearly. The staff all made a fuss for my daughter's birthday - she was delighted!

My husband and I loved our chicken Tikka and Rogan Josh... And the most humongous Keema Nann with garlic ... oh my to die for!!! We shall be back !!! Thank you.... big thumbs up

We live in Market Drayton and collect our take away meals from The Railway Spice which is in Whitchurch. We really wouldn't bother driving that far if the food wasn't so good. It is.....we feel that the value for money and quality can't be beaten by any near by 'Indians'.

Superb food, good value. Continuing the high standards of excellence having relocated from the legendary and superb Taj Mahal restaurant which used to be on the bypass.

Visited Railway Spice a couple of times with family and friends. Food has been good and value for money with the banquet offer. Unfortunately on the latest visit 4 out of 5 guests became ill with food poisoning, so will not be back!

Just been to the railway spice for an Indian, Victoria Foster has an allergy to meat, not only did they serve her chicken but no apology was given, all staff were staying clear of our table, we complained about the service, but they really didn't seem that bothered, so our meal out for Mel Clewes birthday meal was ruined.

Went there new years day and tried the banquet for 9.50 per head. Good size portions, good service and good food - will certainly go back soon

Always enjoy the food at the Taj Mahal and when the owners bought the old railway pub in whitchurch to create our own curry corner, I thought "here we go". But I'm really sorry to say that whilst I love the food, the local tribe of drunks and kids that take over the bar area put me right off. Sadly this is the third time I've seen this. Kids in pyjamas at 9pm in a restaurant play fighting. Not on. Sorry but the management need to ban this lot even if they are bolstering takings with lager and chips takings

Visited The Railway Spice for a meal with work friends. We were given a room of our own.

Went with friends for a meal here and we were pleasantly surprised by the decor and service however it somewhat dismayed me that on ordering we had to pay £2.00 extra for chicken & chips and a lamb dish and all the fish dishes . This made the chicken and chips £10.95 somewhat expensive for a small breast and some chips. The food was ok but nothing special. Put full price in menu then you won't have to make it up as you go along.

Superb Indian cuisine with a very comprehensive menu. The service is excellent from start to finish. Cannot be faulted.

After a relaxing day at the spa we were recommended the railway as we fancied a curry and as we aren’t from the area wasn’t really sure, well what a great surprise.

5* food, 5* service. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the area or after a nice place to eat.😊😊😊

Myself and a group of friends had just finished walking the Sandstone Trail. We were tired, hungry and anxious to get home. The Railway Spice welcomed us (even in our dishevelled state) and the service was efficient and friendly. The food was fabulous, particularly the chef specialities. Our appetites were not sufficient to finish off the portions and the waiter helpfully packed our leftovers to take home. We asked for a taxi, which proved difficult on a Saturday night so another waiter, Mo, kindly offered to take us back to our campsite. Thank you Mo.

A taxi driver recommended the Railway Spice. Is was fairly newly re-open under new management when we were there. The food was pretty good, decent prices, great service, and unbelievably large naan.

My 5 year old and I enjoyed a meal at The Railway Spice this evening and it was fantastic! The food was delicious and was served very promptly after being ordered. All of the staff were wonderfully polite and attentive. It was a warm day so we were lucky enough to eat outside on the large terrace.

We ate at the Railway Spice with 6 friends. Bar area very pleasant and nice environment. Service was friendly. Portions were huge and overfacing. If you want big servings at cheap prices then this is for you. However, the food was very average and not good enough to make me want to revisit.

First visit since the relocation and we were really impressed with the decor, staff and food. Great best range with regular pub prices make this a fantastic upgrade to what was all ready a great restaurant.

Great choice of curries and the naan breads are massive. Everything is value for money. Would definitely return..

have ate here several times and each time the meal is fantastic from the moment you walk in the staff are so welcoming from the moment you leave the £9.50 banquet is excellent food so tasty you always leave knowing you get a brilliant meal the takeaway is just as good.

7 of us ordered what we considered a normal amount of food: 6 curries, 5 Nan and 3 rices. The Nan were huge, 18 inches across. Dishes of curries were also bigger than usual. We barely finished half of it. Good variety of flavours and spicy-ness. Our favs were Katmandu chicken, Nepoli chicken, Balti chicken, and the NAN.

Ate on a Sunday night. Ordered the £9.50 banquet which was popodom and chutneys, starter and main with trice or bread.

food was bland ordered lamb to be told they only do beef which was s;[t. Got the order wrong won't be going back

Went here last Wednesday. I have to say that I was expecting a better experience and was left disappointed. Considering it has only just opened, I expected it to be nice and spotlessly clean,but it's not. It's feels scruffy, the table cloths look like rags and it felt like a dark and dingy old pub and the toilets are unchanged from when it was a pub. The food was average, I've definitely had better. The service and staff were good, but unfortunately I won't be retuning as there are much better options on either side.

Great food, great service and great prices. Tis new Indian restaurant opened today and I had, what was probably, the first takeaway. I was not disappointed.
