Had the most amazing Sunday roast, absolutely delicious 😋 really fresh and a very friendly atmosphere, I will definitely be visiting again very soon 😀

After a disappointing visit in August we returned to see if things had improved. I am glad to see The Railway is back to its best! Service has always been great, this time the food was excellent as well. Absolutely delighted as we have always liked coming here, and there are very few places in this area you can get a really good meal. I had a fish pie, rich and full of fish, scallops and prawns. My wife had a succulent chicken dish, both came with perfectly cooked fresh vegetables.

Came tonight for a meal I had the fillet steak from the specials board, and it was cooked to perfection, the celeriac mash was an excellent change. The Railway is a very friendly local pub with polite staff. I recommend this dish.

Decided at short notice to try Sunday lunch at The Railway. A fantastic experience from the moment we arrived. Brilliant bar service and great choice of real ale for my husband. The best Jemima’s Pitchfork he’d had in a long time. Lunch for three, one beef, one chicken and one belly pork. Generous portion of meat with roast potatoes and parsnips, yorkshire or stuffing with lovely selection of veg to suit all tastes. Despite feeling very satisfied forced ourselves to a portion each of Eton Mess. A great choice. Thank you Liz and Wayne for a lovely afternoon and a warm welcome every time. You’re doing a first class job.

Since Wayne and Liz have taken over management of this lovely country pub it has become so welcoming, the food has always been amazing and the waitresses are always polite and try their best to make your visit the best they can. The welcome we get everytime is always with a beaming smile. Highly recommended and well worth a visit.

Friday night and a very good dinner with friends! The “Specials Board” looked good, especially the fish, only I am not a great salmon lover. Chef Alun then said he would make it for me with cod. What a joy, sauce to die for with lovely creamy mashed potatoes, broccoli just cooked with butter and lemon juice and crispy capers. My companions also were served very well, one Cajun chicken dish, one tagliatelle with prawns and chorizo, and one gammon steak, all were delightful. A very enjoyable evening. The photo with plastic sauce boat is very old and does not in anyway reflect recent offerings!

Newly decorated local pub. Very friendly and attentive staff and a good atmosphere. Visited on a Saturday night with friends for a pint and meal. The beer was good and staff very accommodating. The cod and chips was very good, a full plate and the fish was white and moist. The gammon looked good but the comment was the you needed a good set of teeth to consume it. My own meal was the lamb shank which was a complete disaster. Falling off the bone it was not, having to hack away with a knife as if i was carving a piece of wood. Mash was good and vegetables nicely cooked. The sweet was average. Our overall verdict was try harder.

We moved to the area about a month ago and the railway inn came highly recommended..we went on a Saturday night and the food and atmosphere were superb..The menu was great plus a specials board. Even the desserts are mouth watering. Staff were fantastic and could not have been more welcoming. Will definitely be back.

We have been eating here for a number of years and always had a good meal, unfortunately this time it was a disaster. The service was excellent as always, but the food was worse than poor. My wife had a steak that was overcooked and leathery, with cold boiled potatoes and tasteless peas. I had a fish pie which was mainly a potatoe topping with a few small shrimps and some mashed up salmon in an insipid sauce, served with some very undercooked and inedible parsnips. Our friends smugglers chicken was dry and appeared to have been reheated, and the chips were undercooked and soggy. We asked the waitress to let the owner know, but the owner did not appear keen to talk to us! It’s a shame, we will not be coming back until they get a chef who can cook!

My friend and i called in last evening for a meal, as we were staying at Siramik attending a pottery course. What a lovely pub. Staff were really helpful, friendly and cheerful. The foid was excellent and the pub was warm and welcoming. We loved it.... Certainly looking forward to visiting again.

went on Sunday for a quick afternoon pint, ended up staying most of afternoon, a local pub but very very friendly welcome from other customers and staff. Good selection of beer and food then went last night for a meal. walked into the pub to be greeted by the locals, as if we were a local. the food we had was great, pan fried Pollock and OX Cheek, both of which were excellent. the waitress, chef and bar staff where faultless. Not a lot more to be said apart from great pub, great food and great atmosphere

This is our local pub and we dine regularly. Tonight we had the “specials” and they certainly were! Cod with fondant potatoes, green veggies and beetroot, with a white wine cream sauce and lava bread. Wow! Everything was cooked perfectly, a picture on a plate and delicious. Hubby had halibut with wild mushrooms, in a lemon butter sauce with veggies, also cooked to perfection for a very fussy man! A lovely meal with excellent service and ambiance, could ask for more for our local. A very clever and talented Chef.

We go here for a quiz and maybe for the Steak night but had not had a Sunday lunch. Coming home from Carmarthen we decided to give it a go, we were not disappointed the food was lovely. We went for 2 courses king prawns in a beautiful sauce with warm crusty bread amazing Beef dinner the veg was lovely the beef just melted in the mouth . The new Landlord has definitely made a mark here can't wait for Sunday to go again

Visited for Sunday lunch which was first class.The welcome on arrival was very friendly and welcoming.The staff were all very professional and new what they ere doing.The food was absolutely first class,the crevettes were an excellent starter and the roast rib of beef absolutely wonderful.The selection of vegetables was excellent and the roast potatoes also very tasty.A small and intimate pub,well worth a visit.,we shall be returning.

OMG the new and brilliant menu at the Railway is well worth perusing! And then eating! This is a family friendly village pub under new management since the 1 October 2018. New landlords and a talented chef, we enjoyed mussels for him and crevettes for me, which would rival any restaurant, pasta with smoked chicken (smoked by the chef) and chorizo was brilliant, and the cod and chips was far from ordinary! Real homemade tartar sauce, rich with capers and gherkins was lovely. Alas we didn’t have room for deserts, so something to look forward to! I only wish we had taken pictures so you could see, a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds.

We celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary with a meal at the Railway Inn. The staff are extremely nice and welcoming when you arrive. It is quite a small pub but when you turn the corner of the bar, they have a nice comfy sofa with a fire going. Such a nice place to sit together. It was quite a busy night in the public bar.

This was the best meal I have had EVER. Visited with friends were welcomed by the staff from moment we entered. Service was really good and the food ......well I think I have found heaven......had the chicken in honey and mustard sauce with a side of chips and various vegetables. The dessert was just as tasty........just wish I lived nearer.....

Great place very friendly staff

Very cozy and charming local pub/restaurant. Went there a week last Thursday (our weekly date night), not been there for 20+ yrs. Great home cooking, waited a while for the food but when it arrived it was excellent (chicken curry half and half). Highly recommended and we will definitely return here.

Recently had Sunday lunch at the Railway Inn, and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The setting is perfect; the interior is pleasant and comfortable, and there are also tables and chairs on an attractive patio outside for those who prefer to eat outdoors. Most importantly the food is excellent and very reasonably priced. It is good British cuisine, with ample portions. Overall, the atmosphere is friendly, the staff are helpful and attentive, and it is well worth a visit.

Quality food, large portions, absolutley superb and not over expensive at £8.95 for the roast dinner with a large Eton Mess pudding at £4.95.Parking a little difficult because the pub is so popular. A little off the beaten track and down narrow roads but well worth the effort. Recommended by a friend who said she had never had a bad meal there, well believable.Staff very friendly.

We ate here twice and were very impressed with the food, very nicely cooked and plenty of it. However the beer was very ordinary, no good real ales to speak of which is a shame as it would enhance the pub if a decent beer was on tap. don't let this deter you though, as the food is worth going for.

My husband and I were staying in the area and this place was recommended. So glad we went, the food was delicious and plenty of it. Very busy when we were there but we didn’t have to wait long, but would advise to book a table. Staff were attentive and efficient. Prices were very good!

Nothing I haven't said before, outstanding. The feedback from the family, were as follows. The duck was delicious and salmon and lobster was exceptional. A bit of a drive for the parents, with no complaints. The service was great as usual. The staff are very attentive and the atmosphere is very relaxing. I now class this place as my local place to eat out. Why go anywhere else ?

The food at The Railway Inn is amazing and the puddings are to die for ! Jane is an amazing cook who manages to cater for our daughter who has food allergies. The service is superb and Nick is an extremely efficient and polite host as are all the staff there.

A small village pub with a restaurant on one side and bar on the other. TV with Sky sports for sports lovers. Excellent cask ale on offer and very well kept. Food is superb and very well priced. Reasonably priced wines. Quiz night once a month with a curry for just £5 per head. Steak night every Wednesday with two good sized rump steaks and a bottle of house wine for £30 for two persons. Outside seating area. Very friendly staff, a well run pub with friendly locals. Book for the restaurant as it is very popular.

My partner and I have eaten here on a number occasions and haven't had a bad meal yet the food is exceptional and reasonably priced will definitely be returning .

Went again tonight and as usual consistantly excellent food and service i cant say a bad thing about this place . Perfectly cooked food and good size portions , warm and cosy atmosphere, always lovely friendly staff, good prices, and over all welcoming. I suggest you book tho to avoid dissapointment as its not a big place .

Lovely steak, nice home made chips and salad garnish.It was a shame there was no mushroom,tomato or peas.having said that, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will go again.

Good food in pleasant surroundings

The railway was recommended to us and we were not disappointed. Warm, quirky interior with a great collection of Tiffany lamps. The young staff were excellent - greeted as soon as we walked in and made to feel like returning customers - which we were the following night - good and friendly service does pay. The food was good on the first night and ( despite a longer wait) even better the second night we went. If it was our local we would use it regularly.

Food is always great. A lovely atmosphere, with very attentive staff. Quite tucked out of the way, but only a few miles from carmarthen. Don't turn down an opportunity to visit, as you won't be dissapointed.

Otra noche fantástica. Tanto el servicio y la comida fueron estupendos. Me gustaría hacer de este lugar una visita regular. La oferta de carne en un miércoles es también demasiado bueno para perderse, bien merece una visita. La estación se encuentra a unos 10 minutos de la ciudad visitamos carmarthen, pero no dejes que eso te desanime. Bonitos lugares son difíciles de encontrar.

Madre y Hermana tomó la última noche aquí después de leer críticas y nos quedamos muy impresionados. Ambiente acogedor con un personal amable y acogedor, así que al instante nos sentimos como en casa. Buena variedad en su menú, tamaños y buena parte, perfectamente preparado comida servida en una manera oportuna. Lo mejor de solomillo que he probado en mucho tiempo! Mi hermana tenía carne demasiado, pero mi madre tenía el salmón. Basta con decir que los platos eran claras. Los aperitivos y postres de donde el mismo alto nivel. Recomiendo encarecidamente visitar pero para evitar decepciones recomiendo reservar ya que no es un lugar grande. Incluye 2 entradas y 3 platos principales 2 postres bebidas funcionó sólo 30 libras por cabeza, lo que describiría como la mejor comida que he probado en mucho tiempo. Muy contenta de haber encontrado esta joyita gracias a Tripadvisor y todos los otros comentarios.

Pensamos que podríamos salir a una pequeña comida en el bar, después de un buen día de trabajo. Qué delicia, 2 filetes y una botella de vino a 30 libras. Las carnes estaban muy bien cocinados y la salsa de pimienta adicional un punzón lleno Qué lugar tan hermoso para visitar, con un ambiente tranquilo y un personal muy atento. Bien merece una visita, la comida era deliciosa. Este lugar es una joya escondida y nos aseguraremos de vale la pena una visita.

We were staying at the lovely Glangwili Mansion (Reviewed by me separately) and our host George booked a table for us at The Railway Inn.It was a Wednesday, so they had a Wednesday Night Steak Special, which we happily took.We added two soups (Pumpkin and Pea/ham) which were both very tasty. The steaks that followed were excellent and made to order.For dessert we shared one of the yummiest desserts ever - Sticky Toffee Pudding slathered with custard and caramel sauce - Absolutely divine!!!The deal includes a bottle of wine (!!!)....We chose a Merlot from Chile which complemented the meal beautifully.The service was extremely friendly and courteous.We enjoyed ourselves so much that we came again for lunch on the following Sunday and had another delicious meal!!Great Place!! Delicious Food!! Lovely Service!!

Another lovely night at this great little pub. Good food, lovely staff, wonderful service & great choice(even for those who have a wheat allergy!) Can't wait till we go back on may 7th with another 17 members of the family!

Cant fault the food, first class, lovely atmosphere in the pub and ably served by Sophie. Only down side I saw was the floors could do with a thorough clean, paying particular attention to the floors in the toilets especially behind the doors.

After this pub was recommended to us, we deceided to give it a go. Walked in to a friendly establishment. However it was a bit cramped. Had a drink and was told to take a seat in the bar as the table wasn't ready no problem. After ordering and waited for a table to become free for half an hour we were taken to the table by a lovely young lady, who was very polite. We both ordered sirloin steak at £18.95 EACH. The meals arrived, with just a steak on a few mushrooms and onions, then came a few chips. I was expecting side salad on the plate but nothing so I thought there must be some vegetables to come. To my horror no that was it. Very dissapointed I've never had a meal like this before no peas no garnish or even a small tomato. For this price I was horrified. Make sure you don't order the sirloin steak people.

Great little traditional pub! Called in on the way home from Carmarthen! Had the fishcakes for main and they were fantastic, really enjoyed them, and tasty chips! Good selection of local beers!

We went there as a party of 25 people. The food was excellent. I had roast beef dinner and the beef melted in your mouth, the pudding was excellent and the service was superb. Very friendly and helpful staff, I shall be going there again. Very highly recommend.

We live locally and took two visiting friends to eat there,food as always was super,steak excellent, serviced by a lovely lad who seemed interested in making our visit a pleasant one. Ignore any negative ones from years ago,the staff and owner are now great

Wednesday night is steak night. Just fabulous. 2 x lovely steaks & home-made chips with a bottle of wine for £25 is incredible value. Great staff too. Oh, and their donuts with whiskey toffee sauce for pud are to die for! Well done Jane & crew. See you soon :)

Decided late on a Saturday to go out for a meal. Had not been to the railway for a couple of years so phoned up to book. They kindly asked if 8.30 was ok, as they were full early on. Enjoyed a nice meal in pleasant surroundings with good staff and reasonable prices. One of my favourite places.

Called here, as we had heard it was under new management. It was a wet, windy weekend so decided to go for a drink/meal. We walked in to find both the front and back door were wide open causing a gale through the entire building. We walked in through the back as we had parked in the carpark. There was nobody at the bar therefore we walked in to the front bar to find the room in darkness and who seemed to be the chef (dressed in kitchen whites) sat sleeping/ resting in a chair. The Tv's were all blaring therefore I could only assume this caused us not to be heard by any staff?! Eventually the bar man, came out of the kitchen with another man, both chatted to each other making no acknowledgement to the customers they had in. We decided to stay for a drink, thinking it could only get better. Hmm thinking we had never been there before, that they were new management, the effort would be made but no. The barman was to busy playing around with the waitresses who were unfairness young and unlead. We finished our drinks and left unnoticed as there was nobody around to say bye to.Will not be calling again.

we stopped here on the way to our holiday cottage. The pub is very comfortable and modern. The barman was really friendly and helpful. Although we didn't eat there the food looked lovely and the small restaurant seemed very comfortable

I called in on the hop with my other half and the four boys one Saturday lunchtime. We were welcomed by a friendly barman. Our boys enjoyed the train decor and it kept our youngest occupied while we waited for our food. The food we had was really good with good portions. I had the Steak ale and mushroom pie, and my Misses had the curry. But the jewel was the portion sizes for the kids! There was plenty for them. I will definetly recomend this place to anyone and I will be making frequent visits

We booked a meal for four people the previous day and were able to obtain a table half an hour earlier than planned which was very acceptable. We had a drink at the bar and we were lead to our table within ten minutes approximately. We were seated by the window in an ideal position in a medium sized restaurant but felt quite intimate and comfortable. There were tables and chairs in the garden but it was too cold to eat outside.We had pate'with toast and side salad for starters which was tasty. I chose chicken curry for my main course and it was delicious as it was not too hot or too mild. The three other meals were different but equally enjoyed by my family and friend. The wine was also of good quality. We were particularly impressed by the waitress as she was friendly, polite and not intrusive.We have had meals in The Railway Inn on three previous occasions and have found them most enjoyable.

We do eat at the Railway frequently, and we are never disappointed! Jayne and Nick make quite a team and produce consistently good food. The pub has a great atmosphere, friendly service, the bar and waiting staff are great. Highly recommended and we like the addition of a "specials" board, although there is plently of choice on the main menu as well. Try the steaks or the lamb both very good!

The steak is to die for! Everytime we go we leave raving about the tenderness of the steaks. Highly recommended! But I do suggest booking in advance as it's quite small and popular so it gets booked up quickly!

Food has always been good. It is even better now. The staff are polite and helpful. Biggest problem is having to make a decision on the desert menu.

We live locally and regularly visit the Railway. On each visit we have had excellent meals and friendly staff.We travel extensively throughout the UK on business but The Railway is very hard to beat...cannot understand anyone complaining on the food standards/service on this unique restaurant.....

My wife and I had dinner out at the Railway Inn. My wife is vegetarian but they had a decent selection of veggie dishes, and I had a really tasty steak. Portions were a really good size too. Reasonable prices too. Good service. All good!

We went as a 4 and this review reflects us all. The staff were friendly, food was very nice and portion sizes were ample especially the lasagne. This is a village pub serving pub food. Good quality, tasty pub food. Food and drinks well priced and a good selection of desserts. There was a slight wait for food but it was prepared fresh and worth the wait. The inside place itself is railway themed and quite welcoming.All in all, a good meal at a good price.

We took members of our family here when they visited. In all fairness it was few years ago and there has been a recent change in the running of the pub, so things might have improved. The portion sizes were very small and when we asked if there was anymore vegetables to come was told by the rude proprietor that we should be grateful for what we had. The food was average pub grub, however the overwhelming smell of frying fat coming through the hatch from the kitchen was unbearable. I had to place all our clothes in the wash after visiting. The service was good, and waitress was polite. The place has so much potential, however it was all hidden by dusty fake flowers, tables packed into the restaurant and clutter.

This restaurant provides good food and great service, with big portions! It has a relaxed atmosphere and staff were very friendly and welcoming. My only minor criticism would be that the chips weren't very nice, we couldn't decide if they were overcooked, had been cooked twice, or the oil needed changing. This is just a minor point- it is well worth visiting the Railway Inn for a good meal in a lovely local pub. Would visit again.
