Only went there for a drink, so can't say anything about the food. Service was good and a friendly barman. It was quite with only half a dozen people there, but it was only 3.30pm lol

We love the railway. Always a lovely atmosphere and we especially love coming up when it is sunny to sit in the beer garden. Plenty of things going on throughout the week.

This pub has been recently taken over by Iain and Sam and they have transformed this pub to a friendly and lovely place to visit. Llandaff North is a suburb of Cardiff and boasts a charming community and also is right by the Taff Trail, with easy access along the river into the City. We often visit Cardiff and Llandaff North and The Railway are a must for us. Tim and Nannw.

This place has been transformed by Sam and Ian and is now a hub for the local community. Pub quizzes, plant sales, philosophy in the pub, open mike nights, comedy nights, local choir, carol singing at Christmas. The pub quizzes are the best I've ever been too and the food is great!

The food was OK, but the service was really, really slow 🐌. I'm taking about close to 2 hours waiting for food. The drinks were good. Some of the food was OK other was good, nothing impressive. Maybe we were lucky. The pub was really busy in that day, but we didn't have much alternatives.

Really nice hot roast and beautiful fish and chips for my daughter :-) My only qualm was the paying at the end of it as I had to remember what we had She told me she would ring it through the till as it hadn’t been recorded previously which seemed odd But.. it was still delicious x

The food takes traditional classics to another level. The Sunday lunch was outstanding…. Good Range of veg cooked perfectly and presented attractively. Priced reasonably for this quality. Cheesy leeks, mashed swede , crispy roasties , cabbage …. THE perfect Sunday lunch. Dont miss this !!!

So far we've had the steak sandwich, 2 different burgers and 2 specials of the week (one prawn linguini, one fish), all were fantastic. The desserts are great too - if you have a big appetite try the waffles! The barman is really friendly and dogs are made very welcome too - well worth a visit if you've been for a walk at Hailey Park or Forest Farm.

Just got back from The Railway Hotel and absolutely loved it. The menu is pretty extensive plus there is a whole host of specials available so that you don't have to limit yourself to "Pub Classics" We had laverbread and cockles with bacon, chicken goujons and fishcakes as starters - all were really tasty and cooked perfectly. A word of warning - their staters are a little bit more expensive than other pubs but they are huge. You might be wise to share one if you have a smaller appetite or are planning on having dessert. The main courses were also on the large side. My son had the fish - which was enormous! The pies were really tasty and cooked properly with pastry all around, not just a lid (most pubs should be done under the trade description act but not this one). Only one of us managed a desert, and yes, you guessed it, it was huge. Two big waffles and a generous serving of ice cream. Service was excellent too. Lots of people arrived at the same time so we were warned that it might be a bit longer than normal for the food to arrive. As it turned out the wait wasn't too bad at all and the landlord ensured we were topped up with drinks while chatting and making everyone feel at home. I think one or two other reviews have been a bit harsh. It's not a fine dining restaurant it's a really decent food pub with some excellent, interesting, different dishes available to elevate it above a lot of the competition. We will definitely be going back.

I've been there a few times for drinks, it's very good for that and the beer is really excellent. Also it's no longer the "dodgy" pub it was thankfully. Those are the positives. Also the guy behind the bar in the evenings is really friendly, and funny. However... I had a meal today that was just awful!. The driest stake and guinness pie in history, not only that, it had just 2 pieces of steak in it! the rest was chunks of some horrible strong tasting orange veg of some kind. Awful. Also I'm not sure why half my plate was covered in soggy leaves either. There was no flavor of meat, gravy or ale at all in that pie. I complained very politely and all I got off the girl was "oh,,," and she wakled off. The menu in general is expensive for what you get, not for those on a low income like myself, I think they're trying to be a bit elitist, and mainly aimed at vegerarians and vegans. Definitely NOT somewhere for someone expecting a traditional pub lunch.

This pub has changed so much in the past five years after a successful 'relaunch'. It continues to grow, refine and impress with every visit. The menu is high quality and changes throughout the week, which makes a change from many of the bland chain pubs with identical fayre. The staff are polite and professional, with friendliness and joviality offered to regulars and newbees alike. My in-laws were treated with warm hospitality after a long journey from Ireland, and the burgers and stews were just the thing to satisfy eager Irish appetites. There is a fairly large outdoor area for a chilled summer drink. The interior is split into the lounge and bar areas, both are clean and well decorated. It's a great option for a more authentic drinks and food experience - and we're so pleased to have it as our 'local'.

First time we went the food was lovely. Second visit we had an hour wait for the food !! And the cutlery could not cut the beef, needed a steak knife! Trying to support the local pub we ventured out tonight, Monday . No one in the pub , bought 2 drinks and was told after 10 minutes that they were shutting in 11 minutes ie 10.30 .!! We had to rush our drinks, I left half of mine . The toilets on the previous visit on a Sunday had no toilet paper on both spools and you can't lock the toilet door as the locking mechanisms don't match so you worry that anyone could push the door open !!! This is NOT ACCEPTABLE , no monitoring of the toilets . Won't be supporting the local pub again sadly.

Booked a table on line, greeted and checked in. Mgr explained how ordering etc worked. He had a great sense of humour, we chatted in between and had lots of laughs. Other staff were attentive too. Not overpriced, great quality of food, good portions. We sat outside, which was comfortable pleasant Defo would recommend, I had the beef roast, my friend ham egg chips.

Fabulous traditional Turkey Dinner and trimmings , was delicious and such good value for money , lovely staff and full CV Restrictions in place . Highly Recommend

Hidden gem. Went for a walk with friends and decided to call in for a snack. We were all extremely impressed with the quality of the food and service. We will definitely be back

. Quite a few friends have had take aways from them during lockdown and said the food was beautiful. Plus I'd seen a few comments on FB about how good they'd been with allergies & intolerances so felt pretty confident to go there. The Railway has had alot of changes over the last few years and most recently some gorgeous decking into the original car park to ensure they can keep up with all the lockdown restrictions. It looks gorgeous lit up too! When we arrived we were greeted by Ian the owner who checked if we had booked, and showed us to our table. On a covid note the safety measures in place were brilliant and the best I've found so far! Ian is lovely, was extremely friendly and had some banter going with the regulars. You were made to feel very welcome! He was very helpful when I told him my dietary requirements. Their chips are cooked in a seperate fryer (music to my ears, hate when they say you can't have the chips lol) We had already kind of set on their Saturday offer of 2 steak meals and a bottle of wine for £25 but I was curious as to what else I could have and see how they could cater. They have vegan cheese so could have had a burger but no bun. (I'll definitely be going back so may just mention the buns you can get or bring my own!) We did stick to the steak and boy I was glad I had!!! Presentation as you can see was gorgeous! They made sure my mushroom was cooked in oil instead of butter, the only thing I couldn't have included was the pink peppercorn butter but I wasn't bothered really by that. The steak was cooked to absolute perfection and my god the chips were gorgeous!!! After what was an epic steak, Ian (the owner) came over and asked about dessert however did say he didn't think I could have any of them. Although I was a little disappointed I understood as often we all desserts aren't always us gluten & dairy 'freers' can have. Although five minutes later he returned and said he'd gone into the kitchen to see what he could do for me. He'd even been rummaging in the freezer! He was out of vegan/dairy free ice cream but he could do some meringue nests with some mixed berries. This suited me down to the ground!!! What arrived I had not expected at all!!! Look how pretty it looked!!! It was beautiful! Under the strawberries was a beautiful Berry coulis which was just beautiful! I couldn't get enough of it! It was gone in easily under 5 minutes 🙈🙈 The icing on the cake was the treats that came with the bill... Cola bottles!!!!! YES!!! I'm such a sweets girl and everytime we eat out my husband gets to enjoy the after eights as I'm not a fan! Loved it!! What was so lovely about my meal here was that I wasn't made to feel awkward at any point. How he went above to try and do a dessert for me was just lovely. As I said in my first review we will most definitely be back! I may just bring a @instafoodheaven squirty cream with me! 😂😂

Have been meaning to go here for some time as it is our local. We were not disappointed - have been following their efforts to keep going during this difficult year. We booked a table online and had a great meal - the tables were well apart and the staff masked up and very pleasant and helpful. I had the chicken and mushroom pie and it was the best pie I have had in a long time - it came with chips and greens and an onion gravy that I was prepared to be sceptical about but which was lovely - the whole meal was lovely in fact the only thing I could say is that there was too much! <my husband had the burger and was similarly impressed - he had the waffles for pudding and even with my help could not finish it. The wine was pretty good and very reasonable. All in all we were impressed and will be back. Nice to support local business during this horrible year!

Visité aquí el viernes con algunos amigos, ya que no queríamos ir al centro de la ciudad. Gran hallazgo. Estaba tranquilo cuando llegamos a las 4. 00 p. metro. pero se llenó rápidamenteNos hicieron sentir bienvenidos tanto por el personal como por los lugareños. Las bebidas eran razonables. Comimos nuestra comida en el bar ya que cuando decidimos pedir nuestra comida, el restaurante estaba lleno.Había un menú principal y un tablero de especialidades. Algunos de nosotros tuvimos la hamburguesa de ferrocarril por 9. 95 que vino con una pinta gratis. El resto de nosotros tuvimos el pastel de carne 9. 95) Todas nuestras comidas estaban recién preparadas y venían con chips "reales" de triple coque. Sin duda volveremos de nuevo y no dudaría en tener comida.Un muy buen hallazgo y justo al lado de la estación de tren.

Llegamos un viernes por la noche muy húmedo para pasar la noche antes de una conferencia en la ciudad. Había cinco en nuestro grupo y se había reservado una mesa en el bar. Era "Burger and pinta" el viernes, así que nos unimos al evento. La hamburguesa de cordero era encantadora (¡estábamos en Gales!) Y los otros: hamburguesa de ternera y hamburguesa de haloumi fueron recibidos con placer. Las patatas fritas triples eran una delicia y la ensalada de col casera era cremosa y abundante. Las cervezas que se ofrecieron fueron Barista Coffee Porter y Butcome Bitter. No soy fanático de las cervezas de café y chocolate, pero el Butcombe estaba bien. El ubicuo John Smith también tenía una bomba en el bar y había una buena variedad de cervezas. Uno no puede dejar de notar una gran variedad de ginebras para cualquiera que esté al día con esta última moda.La comida era excelente y después de que se acabó el apuro en la cocina, Ian el propietario salió y se unió a su esposa frente a la casa. New owners have been there for a while and what a difference! The food is amazing so much so that you now have to book for Sunday lunch. Great value also.

This pub had excellent food and a great atmosphere. The service was wonderful as well! I had the fish and chips, and my husband had the lamb shank special. Both meals were fantastic! Definitely recommend stopping in if you’re in the area.

Really enjoyed my evening. Had some ribs which were good, a few pints and a game of pool. Thoroughly enjoyable evening. Looking forward to when they have rooms ready as it would be great to stay there.

Went as a family of six for Sunday lunch after being recommended by friends And we weren’t disappointed, we all had different meats and they were all good with plenty of vegetables really nice staff and very helpful

We live local to the railway and was told they had started cooking, on the off chance we popped in on a Sunday for lunch. There was a good choice for roast plus about 6 other items on the black board, we all went for the roast options.
