The Quirky Bird in Lisburn

Stopped in Moira for some lunch and found The Quirky Bird by accident. Service was excellent, food was great & plenty of it & very reasonably priced. Staff were super friendly.

I visited the cafe on 31/01/2034 @ 12.30 am for a light snack and coffee. I was greeted by a young man who asked me if I was eating, I informed him that I was waiting for my wife and a small dog (Chihuahua) as I understood the cafe was dog-friendly. The young man informed me there were no dog-friendly tables left, 3 in total I believe as they were all being used...I informed him none of the people at the dog-friendly tables had dogs !!!! he turned to an older gentleman who I presumed was the manager who was sitting at a table eating some food...and asked him what I should do. He came up with the solution that I should ask some of the customers to move, how ridiculous. I informed him I would go somewhere else and left. If this is the training the young members of staff are receiving about customer service I feel it might need to be addressed.

Great place, awesome customer service and excellent value for money. Can’t recommend it enough. Every visit is worth every penny. Thanks guys

Thoroughly enjoyed our brunch in this lovely cafe. Good selection of meals and sweet treats. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Very nice breakfast and cakes. Really liked the option of a mini cooked breakfast. Would have been nice to be able to see out of the windows.

Cosy atmosphere, attentive service and my sausage and mash was excellent, more than generous portion, 4 good quality sausages an a bed of perfectly cooked mash. Coffee was good and the selection of desserts very tempting.

My son and I had lunch at The Quirky Bird and absolutely loved it. The food was excellent, the potions were huge and the staff we very attentive without being intrusive. There was sooo much to choose from, homemade wheaten bread, shortbread and apple pie to die for! An around drool fest 🤣 We will definitely be back.

Called today 19/11/22 and had an amazing breakfast. Will definitely be recommending this cafe to anyone heading to Moria. Food freshly made and service great.

What a fabulous café. We called in here today as we were passing through Moira and had an absolutely wonderful lunch. My husband ordered the club Sandwich , which he said was the best that he has ever eaten. It was packed full of chicken, ham and cheese and came with a bowl of crisp, freshly cooked chips and salad. I had the goats cheese focaccia which tasted delicious. The staff are all very cheerful, chatty and friendly and the fact that this restaurant helps struggling families is so impressive. We will definitely return if we are ever in the area again.

Good coffee ,great scones and efficient friendly service. We can be hard to please but this earns all the stars. If in Moira go here. And good to support this Social Enterprise.

I want to thank The Quirky Bird for looking after the lonely and vulnerable in the community. They provide a service for regulars who call at the van and cafe at all times of the day. This is noteworthy to others calling by thinking of others before yourself. Well done Quirky Bird!

Great little cafe. Always super friendly and lovely food. Great staff! Been a few times now and always love this place. If you are in Moira and fancy a quick bite that doesn’t cost the earth check it out.

While in the park we went over for a coffee and I asked for 4 latte coffees, the lady serving showed me a milk carton and said that’s all the milk I have left. I said ok can I have 3 latte then, her response was no I can give you Americano’s. I said sorry I would like late, she then responded with I have other customers to serve and can’t give you all the milk. I was the only one in the queue and wasn’t asking for them for free!! Based on this attitude I would not recommend the coffee van. Everyone I have mentioned it to have laughed thinking I am winding them up, I was expecting someone to jump out and shout haha got you.

Great staff - couldn't do enough for us. Realised it was a birthday celebration naan brought out cake with a candle and played happy birthday and did three cheers - all without prompting! Lovely food too!

The Quirky Bird has provided super service on several different occasions where we have purchased treats for staff. Bacon Butties, Tea, Coffee, Traybakes all fabulous and appreciated by the workforce! Stephen and his team are happy to go the extra mile to support other local businesses in the area. Thank You! Open on a Monday! Excellent breakfast choices on the menu. Huge portions! Brilliant service. There is a lot of competition in Moira when it comes to breakfast/brunch cafes but I think this is the best one I have been to.

Visited on a sunny Monday morning with a friend for breakfast. The service was excellent, had the poached eggs on toast which was excellent and the best flat white coffee. Will be back again.

Shown to a seat quite quickly then pace slowed down. Order was taken and pot tea arrived. HAve to say could have finished the teapot (two mugs). before the fry arrived. All was fresh and locally sourced sausages. Glad to see the beans came separately....

I called today with a friend, the food was absolutely beautiful. I had the vegetarian all day breakfast, really the best vegetarian option I’ve had anywhere. Highly highly recommend. Staff very helpful and friendly. Will definitely be back.

We arrived in Moira tired and hungry and thankfully we happened upon the Quirky Bird. We were a large group of 10, half of us are veggie. We were met with a warm welcome and served hot home made food ranging from vegan cooked breakfasts to the traditional fry and pancakes stacked high. It was a brilliant start to our holiday.

I just want to say that the coffee, ambience and friendliness of the owner were excellent. I strongly recommend a visit if you’ve not been already.

First time we have been back since the change in ownership. I have to say it was excellent. Service was quick and friendly.

Just down the road from me so great to pop in with daughter for a bite after walking the dog in the Demesne. Lovely choritzo scrambled eggs and daughters usually have pancakes/bacon/maple syrup. I prefer the mid morning period as not so busy. Food as always very tasty and a great choice, the fry is fantastic but i'm on diet for the next year or so , so will be avoiding for a while ! Owner is a lovely friendly guy, always up for a chat. Tables nicely spaced and lovely clean toilet, even had wipes for little sticky fingers !

Called in for a quick bite of lunch with the family. Seemed a nice place was reasonably busy but not to the extent of having to wait just over an hour for food which was of a mediocre quality. My youngest girl had vegetable soup and sandwich. Soup was revolting and sandwich was just dry bread with chicken. Surely it's not too much to ask for a skim of butter or mayo? The rest of the food was o.k but definitely not worth the wait. Our tea and coffee had been brought to the table a good half hour before the food eventually arrived so it was stone cold. I would have thought a complimentary top up would have been a nice gesture? It was disappointing to say the least, I definitely wouldn't eat there again but maybe the next experience would be better? It just doesn't seem to be able to cope with any volume of customers unfortunately. The waiting time was ridiculous and the food seemed to suffer slightly in quality as a result of the panic.

Nipped into The Quirky Bird whilst in Moira. Pleasant environment with couples at a few tables but not what you would call busy. After a while our order was taken by a young girl who is in serious need of direction in how to converse with customers. No pleasantries whatsoever. Anyhow, we were on a tight deadline to get back to Belfast so ordered, what we thought, food that can be quickly prepared. How wrong were we? We were in the shop 45 mins and 10 of those were spent on eating the food. It is really annoying to pay £15 for lunch to only have 10 mins to eat it. The kitchen really need to get their act together. On a positive note, the food was enjoyable.

Visited here with my partner and family. We ordered two salads, the Quirky Bird club sandwich and one of the beautiful home made sausages rolls. It was huge! And delicious :) endless pots of tea were served by really friendly staff as we caught up. It was such a relaxed friendly atmosphere it felt like your own kitchen. Really ‘quirky’ decor as well. Gets a little too hot when the sun shines if you’re seated at the window but that is a small fault in what is a great addition to Moira. A must visit for a bite and a cuppa!

Lovely atmosphere. Friendly helpful chat. Great food. Food cooked fresh worth wait. Lots of choice. Back soon looking forward to new vegan/vegetarian dishes.

Popped into the Quirky Bird for lunch. Service was slow and the staff were disorganized, losing track of which table had ordered what. Maybe fewer waiting staff and more in the kitchen would speed things up? Food was just ok and not quite what was described on the menu. Traybakes all looked ok but didn't try them. Maybe the Quirky B just isn't the same since the change of ownership. Sadly not what it used to be...

The food is very highly prepared, club sandwich is very tasty, though very filling. Desserts are amazing with a good variety to choice between. Sometimes I think that if Quirky was opened up for evening meals it would give the other local restaurants a run for their money! I got a peppered steak meal one afternoon and was an evening meal! really impressed. Lemon meringue Pie, well that's my diet out the window! worth every bite x

Popped in for first time today. Staff were nice and menu reasonable. I just had a wrap from the menu which was pleasant enough but nothing special and my partner had the soup and we both had a coffee. I just felt that nearly £20 was a bit expensive for what we got-perhaps they made a mistake

Having some business to do in the area, I took advantage of The Quirky Bird coffee house and was not disappointed. My order was for coffee and a scone which was quickly and efficiently served. The food was most acceptable and the charge very reasonable. Well worth a visit.

First visit to this place, very friendly staff, lovely food, nice ambience. Would recommend it if you are looking for somewhere to eat after a walk around Moira.

Went here with a couple of friends after walking the demense. Place was empty I ordered a scone and coffee the scone was tiny said to staff they weren't bothered one bit . So when paying for said food £4 I only had a £10 note staff give me all loose change 10p 20p 50p to make up £6 !!

Call today for a light lunch, it was busy when we arrived but waited a short time and a table became available. The staff were clearly under pressure, however this was leaches for the curt manner they were dealing with customers, we asked for a menu and were told to wait as staff were busy! Eventually we were handed one and left for a prolonged period. Our food arrived, it was just alright, why a restaurant can notmakefresh potato wedges rather than using awful processed ones! It appears that someone had not turned up for work, a difficult thing to cover but staff should not take this out on customers. The till was being used almost like a game console as I hardtop stand for a age waiting to pay. All told not a pleasant experience, never to be repeated!

Visiting friends who took us twice to this lovely little cafe just off the main road in Moira. Excellent home made scones and free refills of coffee - our kind of place! Recommended.

I had a good lunch here with a friend fairly recently, I had the minute steak on ciabatta with a nice salad, followed by a coffee and cake which were all pretty good. The owner is very welcoming, and the place has a nice, charming feel about it.

The Quirky Bird continues my theme of trying out the cafés and coffee shops of Moira and this was the next one on the list.

I feel most at home with minimal interior design so it was uncharacteristic of me to visit the Quirky Bird. But the food is great - meals and bunnage, coffee as well. And on the many times I've now been the service has always been with a smile and a bit of chat. Thanks. (Start with the fish pie!)

We called in briefly for coffee and cake. It was close to 4pm - and they said they were closing soon. The service and food was good. Since it was Saturday afternoon I didn't expect the offerings to be a lot- but they did and it was nice. The cafe was busy.

Have been before for coffee and couldnt fault the place. However went today for lunch. Waited almost 10 mins just to get my order taken. Then waitress came back to tell us what we had ordered wasn't available. I opted for the special steak pie. I received a very small, overcooked piece of pie with 2 small dry pieces of meat and carrots and peas. I found it completely inedible. No one actually checked if our food was okay as they were too busy chatting with their obviously regular customers. Will I be rushing back? Don't think so..

Visited Quirky Bird today with 2 friends and, along with the delicious food, we were intrigued by the decor with the little trinkets and ornaments that make this cafe such an endearing and unique place to visit.

3rd visit. Great ladies serving. Service quick. Sausage rolls to die for and no complaints about coffee and scones. Very reasonably priced compared to others. Will definitely be back to try lunch. Warm and welcoming, clean and tidy. No complaints from me.

Moira is not short of a coffee shop and for a small village you are not spoilt for choice. However with The Quirky Bird you can be assured to have it all, fresh home baking, freshly made soups and sandwiches and a daily changing choice of hot lunches. My wife and I love nothing more than strolling here to have a wonderful freshly cooked breakfast (the poached eggs are always good!) or a rhubarb and ginger scone with a flat white never fails to hit the spot. The vast array of deserts and tray bakes on display with have your mouth watering from the moment you walk inside and you can always be assured of a friendly welcome from the owner and her staff. This doesn’t feel like a corporate stuffy Starbucks it is a place where you can pass the time meeting friends and family catching up over good coffee and excellent food. Nothing is overpriced and for what you get I cannot understand how it is so reasonable. If you visit be sure to try a homemade sausage roll, they are massive and full of flavour - hands downs the best sausage roll in town!!

Went here for the first time the other day with my daughter and a friend who has been many times.

A delicious treat starting with soup, sausage roll and toasted bread with goats cheese and sundried tomatoes. Hmmm! Sandwiches and wraps, hmmmmm again! Raspberry and white chocolate scones, jam and cream, more hmmmmm! Then to finish a mini fruit and cream, choccy treats and more to complete! Hmmmmmm!

Lovely setting food all looks gorgeous I only had a coffee and a Malteser bun and there was very little Maltese in my bun even though the ones on display had lots of matesers on them The food alllooks gorgeous and I will be back

Went today with friends for lunch to Quirky Bird. Love the decor teapots and birds makes you feel at home. All the lovely food is freshly made and tray bakes and delicious desserts all home made. Este viaje fue una llamada rápida para té/café y un par de bollos, bollos bien no cualquier viejo estas eran de ruibarbo y jengibre que eran tan claros, con un par de emigrantes precioso de mantequilla el olor de ellos se encuentre, absolutamente delicioso. La mesa junto a nosotros tuvimos una comida con una ensalada un delicioso aroma encantador con vestidor.

Llamé hoy para un almuerzo rápido. . . Los informes que había oído. El servicio era lento, pero no hoy. . Sin duda no me puedo quejar del servicio. Camarera explicó los especiales como ella no la había escrito para ellos a bordo y el camarero era muy eficiente en tomar nuestra orden y rápido para volver con nuestro café. Mi marido tenía el sandwich de carne gourmet y lo describió como el mejor que tuvo en mucho tiempo. Yo opté por mi propio sándwich de tocino y queso brie tostado con un pequeño cranberry parte de ensalada y col, era muy sabrosa. Único defecto era que camarero puerta se abrir y fue bastante viento y la señora en la mesa de al lado estaba la sensación de frío, él no preguntarle hizo mente? ? Tuve que tomar mi vaso de encimera para una recarga de café. Un almuerzo agradable y sabroso.

Hoy fui con un amigo para almorzar. Peculiar de aves es un sitio encantador y luminoso y agradable. La comida era deliciosa y el servicio fue excelente.

Había café y bollos, zumos para nieto. Un servicio rápido incluso cuando estaban ocupados. La comida estaba bien y llevar parecía interesante. No es barato, pero pobre para el campo. Un entorno agradable y un personal amable.

Llevamos a los clientes de negocios como de aves peculiares la comida es siempre fiable. Aquí podrá conseguir deliciosos alimentos. La última vez que una sopa de espinacas. Tenía mis dudas al seleccionar la sopa, pero después de la primera boca llena era un total ganador conmigo. Sé que siempre puedo ir a pájaros peculiar y conseguir comida deliciosa. Bien hecho en su personal, que es amable y se esfuerza al máximo. . El chef que. siempre produce nuevas interesantes platos, de la decoración, que es "peculiar".

Had lunch here a few times and always been a pleasure great service and food, I don't find it too expensive as stated in a previous "terrible" review, give it a go and judge for yourself I doubt you'll be disappointed...

This is a lovely tea room. The toilets are spotless { always a good indicator of overall cleanliness } and the decor beautiful. This before I fully recommend the coffee and delicious tray bakes. Well worth coming off the motorway for.

We went on Sunday for a friends birthday treat. We love afternoon tea.It was such a lovely place,friendly staff who will go out of their way.You get champagne or soft drink on arrival a choice of hot drink &then soup plate to start followed by sandwich,scones &buns. They had a great selection,i would recomend to try this lovely country cafe,value for money. ❤❤❤

I eventually got to try this lovely little spot with some friends this week. Live the floral, cottage kitchen feel of the decor. Good breakfast selection though we fell in love with the scones-highly recommend the rhubarb and ginger! Coffee warm, scones fresh from the oven and friendly service!

I had wanted to eat here for absolutely ages after reading reviews and it being recommended. We visited it one beautiful weekday for lunch. It wasnt busy but service was extremely slow. Food was OK, nothing fancy or to rave about, much to my disappointment..Having said that, the place always seems busy enough.. Obviously we hit it on a bad day.

We went to The Quirky Bird for lunch recently and we got a warm welcome from the owner Diane. She got us a table and explained all the specials available. The food was delicious and tailored to our individual tastes. After our delicious lunch we were then tempted by desert......wow the tart was just like your granny made. The decor was just perfect for the style of tea room........we can't wait to go back and have told our friends about the The Quirky Bird

Went to Quirky bird for lunch. Food was fine but cafe is quite small and tables very close together. I did love the decor Service was also quite slow. Door kept opening and there was a terrible draft.

We live in Moira and like to support the local shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Having been for breakfast in all venues we have come to the conclusion that the Quirky Bird is the best. The staff are friendly and attentive and take time to talk to their customers. The food is well presented and delicious. I would definitely recommend this cafe for breakfast. You might have to wait a little longer than in some of the other cafes in the village but you are made to feel welcome and you know that your breakfast is bring cooked to perfection.

Lovely vegetarian halloumi burger! And the rhubarb crumble just wow! Also tried the Rolo cheesecake Fab-U-Lous!!

I've eaten lunch here a number of times. The cafe is quite small with lots of tables so not a huge amount of room for prams. The décor is lovely. Service is usually friendly but very slow so make sure and leave yourself plenty of time.The menu is great with lots of daily specials. I was impressed with just how many dishes were on offer. They serve everything from scones and traybakes to proper lunches like a steak sandwich and chips. I really enjoy their rhubarb and ginger scones. Only item I've ordered and not been completely happy with was the vegetable soup which was very salty.Looking forward to going back.

I live a couple of miles from Moira and have only tripped over The Quirky Bird a few days ago and it was lovely! Food, service and ambience was excellent. Treat yourself to a quiet moment of reflection and a big sticky bun!

We had lunch here for the first time. warm chicken and bacon c salad and a gourmet sandwich which came with chips and salad. Fast service and the meals were really good. Staff were helpful and friendly. We had a great window seat and even though it was busy we didn't notice the other diners. Good mix of people - families, mums with children and couples of all ages. Really worth a visit to this lovely little place.

The food presented was piping hot colourful and very tasteful.The strengh of this pleaserable establishment is the staff at all levels and positions. We often meet friend here for coffee and a scone. The scones are excellent, our favourites are cherry or rhubarb and ginger. The coffee is never ending and the service is warm and friendly.

Well what a lovely welcome we got today. Our first time being in the Quirky Bird we were shown to our seats in this quirky little place and we were made very welcome. Have been here several times for tea and a snack. Lovely service in a beautifully decorated shop. Had afternoon tea on one occasion as a birthday treat for a friend, absolutely delicious and very helpful with dietary requirements.

The Quirky bird has such lovely interior, the staff are warming amd polite and the food is delicious. You won't be disappointed with the portions. I will most definately be back!

Whilst out for the day with my husband we came across this little place in Moira and decided to pop in for a coffee. Initially we were met by a pleasant girl who took our order and kindly offered to bring it down to us when ready. We did browse the menu for food but decided it was a tad expensive for what was on offer and finished our slightly overpowering coffees. We had observed an older lady/staff member visiting various tables smiling and pleasantly engaging with more..... what I would describe as finely dressed customers in suits etc asking if things were ok however she never came to our table which is perfectly fine as we prefer to be left alone to enjoy our drinks anyway. When we came to pay however my husband and I approached the counter and waited to pay whilst another customer was receiving several takeaway coffees. When this customer left the older lady/staff member looked right at my husband, said nothing and turned away from us while she straightened her notepad on the table and moved 3 or 4 glasses about randomly. We assumed she had something more pressing in mind and waited as we were in no rush. Again though standing in the same place she turned to look at my husband before sharply grunting "Any food!?". My husband said no and told her our order at which point she literally looked him up and down in his jeans and fleece top, giving him a distasteful scowl before taking his money. Shocked he looked at me and then embarrassed we left the shop after receiving our change and no further acknowledgement from this lady.I don't know what on earth we did to deserve such judgmental scorn but we can only come to the conclusion that our faces simply didn't fit the preferred clientele and as such we were made to feel like second class citizens. Shocking customer service from this lady and unfortunately we won't be back. Demeaned and embarrassed.
