Terrible meal had by all. Food was extremely low quality and vastly overpriced, steaks were like sponges and fish was burnt and dry. The toast for pate was burnt. The staff couldn't even manage the drinks - retaining the opened soft drinks cans sold at full price as mixers. There is better out there and we will not be back. The front of house staff had extremely limited experience and although polite, seemed like it their first day. Poor experience and wasted an evening out.

We've passed the Queen's Head many times, but finally called in for a family weekday lunch. We're glad we did, because the interior is full of olde worlde character, the service was friendly and efficient, and the menu offered plenty of variety at reasonable prices. We all enjoyed our meals, which were well cooked, well presented, and generous without being over-facing. We shall certainly return when an opportunity presents itself.

We had booked a table for Sunday lunch. Arrived at the bar to find 3 members of staff all looking vague & confused. No Welcome or eye contact at all . Even when your busy it’s not difficult to look up & acknowledge a customer when they walk in is it ? After standing around for a while we said we had booked a table - were pointed to a table & we sat & waited for a menu to be brought to us - 20mins later & still waiting we left , after having 2 pints of flat beer - which we were still charged full price for. Very poor ,no organisation at all . Such a shame .

This is a cosy, rural country pub that is dog friendly. We visited for dinner and it was busy on a Friday night, but the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The menu has a good range of dishes, and what we ordered was tasty and filling. There was quite a wait for service but there was one staff member looking after the pub, so it could not really be helped.

We called in on a Friday lunchtime at 12:30 en route to Halesworth. Waitress/Barmaid seemed completely overwhelmed by us walking in shortly after a small group of guys. Apparently if we took a table some of them were going to have to move. I couldn’t understand why. There seemed to be a strange vibe. Waitress somehow full of her self importance but lacking a clue...No food served until 1PM - on a Friday at lunchtime? No menu available as not yet typed up! It was however partly recited to us. Nothing suitable, no light meals, no sandwiches, nothing vegetarian. We walked out and left - found another pub nearby which was far better set up.

We came here for Sunday lunch over the August BH weekend - due to COVID precautions only seating outside was available (we could see this from the website but were also told when we phoned to book) but that suited us fine. Pre-booking was required and details taken for contact tracing (a big tick for us). Limited menu but the beef roast was incredible. The beef was excellent but the vegetables were the star of the show - the most amazing array of veggies were on the plate - crispy kale, sliced candy stripe beetroot, roast carrots, roast cauliflower etc. along with the obligatory Yorkshire puddings and roast tatties and gravy - Yum! Friendly service all round. Nothing to complain about. Would definitely recommend!

Visited this picturesque pub for weekday lunch couple of days ago , one of the biggest problems is the only tables are scattered around the garden with brollies as cover . So no cover if the weather turns like it did for us . Ordering not a problem not a lot of choice on menu . Food disappointing and not very hot on arrival especially the hand cut chips that were insipid & limp . The biggest problem when coming to pay at front of pub with no cover so standing in lashing rain to pay by card .

Always wanted to try this place, so gave it a go today. Staff are nice but more interested in talking to there friends, even though they had customers waiting to be served. We sat down and was told someone would come over and take our drinks order, waited ten minutes before she came over. When asked what ales or larger they had on, got told we only have one ale on and one larger on. Drinks then came five minutes later, placed food order as thought it would be a good idea. An hour had passed and we had to chase our food order, got told it will be coming out in five minutes. When the food arrived it wasn’t that warm, but by this time we just ate it. 1, service was poor2, table booked for 13.00, food came out at 14:203, staff only wanted to know you if you’re friends of there, 4, if you’re not in a rush to get served or eat food on time, then you’ll like this slow service5, won’t be trying this place again

We were warned that we would have a while but in the mean time we were served drinks and the most delicious home made bread. The food is an amazing combination of Asian influence and superb local ingredients, as well as traditional British dishes of course. To help through the time of COVID, they are also selling their own and local produce. Before we left we bought various things including bread and their own salad leaves. Each and every product was just delicious!!! We can't wait to go back!

On a Tuesday evening there were quite a few customers though it was quiet, warm and welcoming. Loved that there were little bowls of salt crystals and cracked black pepper on the table. We opted for mains & dessert: Sausage, mustard mash, bean, chickpea and chorizo spicy sauce with an egg on top. Overall very tasty, though I didn’t spot any mustard in the mash and the chickpeas were a bit al dente – we fed back on this and I suspect it wouldn’t happen again. Also Pork belly, buttery mash, caramelised onion, root veg and sauce. There was a good portion of the pork belly, though it was a bit chewier than expected. Desserts: Chocolate pistachio pud with chocolate ice cream – the ice cream was well-flavoured and the pud tasty. Also: Damson bakewell and cardamom infused custard – the bakewell was very good, but the custard TO DIE FOR! Adnam’s Ghost Ship 0.5% citrussy pale ale was a fab low-alcohol drink for someone who struggles with a citrus allergy – the pub checked with the Adnams website (unasked) to confirm that the sole source of the citrus flavour was the hop and there was no actual citrus, that was very kind. An interesting menu and very well-flavoured food, happy to recommend.

This is a really nice village pub and is dog friendly. We booked a table for 7.15 on Saturday night. We only ordered 1 starter which was served fairly quickly however we waited until 8.40 before the main meals arrived. Bearing in mind 3 out of the 4 of us didn't have a starter that was a long wait for food and although busy it isn't a big place. Also, the wine was expensive (think they mostly served Adnams and a bottle of rose was £23!). No complaints about the food itself thought as all the meals were nice but gave average rating due to the long wait

"I've booked the Queens Head at 7:00"my husband said.. "Really? You're lucky to get a table in there on a Saturday night! Must have had a cancellation.' I said. However, it all became apparent on arrival - 5 people in there.. 2 eating and 3 waiting for food. We ordered.. and waited and waited.. 35 mins later I chased the 2 starters, they arrived, my husband had chicken satay.. he took a mouthful and checked and it wasn't cooked, in fact it was raw in the middle! Got over that by refusing anything else for starters and by this point we're an hour in.. how much longer for our mains? Bar girl returns 'sorry but the skate that you ordered has failed the ammonia test, what would you like'.. bad enough it failed but worse that our main hadn't even been started. The mains turned up and to be fair my cod was ok, the chips almost felt like yesterdays re-fried but I ate my meal. If you are gonna take over a pub that was well known for great food and service then you need to step up and sort it out.. good luck at Latitude weekend when the place is usually heaving! Also it was really cold in the pub, the fire was lit but it wasn't cosy. Shame cause that pub was my local from 18 years old - won't be going back under the management of Tottie and Matt!

On arrival it took a long time to be served with a drink and when we eventually did get served our order was wrong, NOT a very friendly welcome. Our starters took just under an hour to be served, the main course was served quicker but one steak was cold and another over cooked, the chicken was dry and very salty, we had to ask for the chips which arrived 10 mintues later! We informed the waitresss that the steak was cold, they offered to heat it up! I refused and asked for a fresh steak to be cooked, the over steak apparently was overcooked because the steak was thick! When we asked for 2 new steaks to be cooked as requested they came back and advised that they had no steaks left, utter rubbish! However we could have a burger. We had to ask for cutlery and we were not offered any sauces with our meal! Very disappointing in service and quality of food!

Have driven past this past pub a good few times but not stopped in. First time today and will not be the last. This likely to be factored in to all trips to Southwold when friends visit. The pub has what I would call a ‘womanly’ charm...lots of flowers and fragrant hand wash. Toilets and pub all clean and pleasant. Staff are friendly. Of course, the reason you stop for lunch is not the above but the food, and this is very good. I had pork burger and partner had Harrisa chicken. Both were fantastic. Haven’t been for a couple of years but not much changes. A lovely country pub from the outside, thatched roof, tables in the garden, sunshades, big car park. But inside just as grubby as always though they seem to have improved the toilets. The food was OK, but with that awful dirty carpet on the floor still there after all these years, it makes you wonder how clean is the kitchen. Only four there for a late July lunch maybe says it all but no doubt it gets busy in the evenings at holiday time. And I hate it when they go round with that spray stuff cleaning the tables when some folks are still eating. Fussy? Yes, maybe.

Chaotic best describes our visit on a sunny,Tuesday evening. The two women behind the bar were both trying to do everything - take orders at table, serve meals, serve drinks at the bar and, at one stage, clean up an accident in the toilets. At times there was a long queue at the bar with no-one serving. At 7.30 pm they stopped taking any more food orders as they couldn't cope. Clearly, early booking is essential. When the meal arrived after 50 minutes, whilst the portions were adequate, the food was disappointing and my mushy peas absent. Clearly a chef under pressure.

Was told would be 30 minute as busy. We order fish and chips, simple. Waited over an hour. When arrived the peas were nearly warm. Chips “just” cooked. Fish fresh and flaky. However pretty small. Felt a little let down by whole experience, after hearing such great reports. I think as summer holidays started and latitude being so close, they should have staffed for that.

This is just a wonderful little pub, in this quiet Suffolk hamlet. I have been here twice, with different people and each time everyone has enjoyed their meal. There is a good choice of pub classics (burgers, fish and chips) and also a good selection of vegetarian dishes. With a lot of the main courses you can order a full or half portion size - ideal if you are not very hungry, or if, like my son, you want to have two main courses! Starters and desserts are also great, and the staff are friendly. Top tip - book in advance, as this is a popular spot, especially at weekends.

Lots of different dishes on the menu, with lots of vegan and vegetarian options available and they accommodate well for gluten and dairy free needs if you speak to the staff. Four of us went to the Queen's Head on a Saturday evening. The pub was about a third full throughout the evening, so not overly busy. Whilst the food was good our main gripe is that the mains came out at different times ie two appeared, then after quite a few minutes another and then after a very long wait the fourth plate arrived. Only one member of staff was taking orders, serving, running bar and clearing tables.

We came here with local friends. The pub itself is charming and pretty, although a bit uncomfortable. The staff were polite and overall nice, but slow at a time when there were not many customers. I saw it is dog-friendly, which is always a plus. Its food could be described as a refined pub fare, worth coming if you stay in the area, but not really if you are not staying there.

We called in on the off chance today on the way back from the beach. Pub was very busy with 2 large tables dining. We saw lunch was served until 2.30pm so decided to be patient and wait. At 2pm one of the large tables left and the ladies behind the bar were quick to clear down an re-arrange the tables for us. We had cod (both adult and child size) and belly of pork. Both were amazing and we will definitely be back. Staff were so friendly inviting us to bring our dog in from the car. So pleased we stopped and that our patience was rewarded. Keep up the good work!

This friendly traditional inn offers wonderful hospitality and an interesting menu. The food is executed with a real flare and great competence. The fish cakes really are fish cakes rather than the, so common, potato cakes with a hint of fish. The French onion soup was very good and the home grown vegetables delicious. I look forward to my next visit.

We booked The Queens Head for lunch whilst staying at Blyford Hall with friends for the weekend. Ages 18months to 50 years, there were 16 of us, 8 of which were spirited hungry kids, the rest of us togged up in our Christmas jumpers ready for a boozy early Christmas! We might have been a pretty daunting sight for many places but this pub was quite simply amazing! Fabulous service, so welcoming - giving us our own section of the pub to rule over - and the food was incredible! Honestly couldn’t ask for more in a pub. Big roaring fire, wonderful food, great ales, kid friendly and a landlord & staff that were so friendly and for whom nothing was too much trouble. Well done The Queens Head! We’ll be back!

Our first visit here having driven by many times without the chance to call in, a characterful old inn with many old exposed beams, stripped back brick and a lovely log fire in an inglenook fireplace, perfect for enjoying drinks and warming up by on a cold autumn Sunday.

A very good place to eat near Southwold. Have been past so many times, should have gone sooner. We went this lunchtime with no booking. At first things seemed a bit chaotic, finally someone , asked what we wanted, and then everything went into overdrive.

There were 8 of us in our party and they gave us the table in the cosy nook, which suited us. the boys ordered the ales from the bar as we came in and the wines were brought to the table.

Brilliant. Fabulous meal, smoked mackerel starter was delicious as was the sole. Very helpful as two of our group arrived almost an hour after original booking (M25 snarl-ups). Would always recommend this place.

booked a table at QHB a couple of weeks ago for the new Sunday sessions. Cycled there with my wife to enjoy a thoroughly great afternoon and delicious food. Ordered the Lobster and Crab Salad and Pork and Apple Burger with home made chilli sauce. Everything was fresh and home made, the chilli sauce they should bottle. Relaxed and listened to the Owl and Wolves, very nice afternoon indeed. Look forward to more! Try the Wild Fennel Vodka.. great stuff and made me cycle faster on way home.

Dropped in for lunch and were impressed by number of lunch choices on menu. We had the pork & apple burger with chips and chilli jam, and the sausages and mash with crispy kale, homemade beans and fried egg, which were very good. A good choice of puddings - we tried the ice creams and lemon posset. Staff were pleasant. Only criticism would be the choice of Radio 6 music which didn't seem to suit the age of the lunchtime clientele.

Took my 88 year old grandma for a meal this evening started off well we are local to the area the three of us all had three courses to be fair my husband and grandma couldn’t be faulted there meal but mine was shocking I had a cherry stone in my starter which shouldn’t have been there nearly broke my tooth and hard bits of mackerel obviously were it had sat in the fridge uncovered and dried out for mains I had the burger which was lovely but there homemade beans were rock hard over cooked in the microwave well the damson trifle was a deconstructed trifle that consisted of a rock hard dense sponge jelly fruit topped with two inches of cream just cream it was probably the worst pudding I’ve ever been served the staff hadn’t a clue waited and waited for the table to be cleared in the end I asked for a pudding menu they gave us tea spoons to eat our desserts girls eating behind the bar not once did they ask if we were ok but did everyone I work in hospitality the staff need serious training on customer care and pouring a simple lime and soda and as I was paying the bill I felt very disappointed I sadly I won’t be returning

My hubby and I live near this smashing little pub and have used it on and off over the last twelve years. Hosts and chefs have come and gone, some good , some not but we went for dinner and then again for lunch recently and were delighted with the new hosts and the food! Everything sourced locally and they have a super veggie garden and use this in their menus! The food was beautifully cooked and presented and the staff very friendly!.... I had the Dover Sole which was amazing and hubby had the large 12oz sirloin ...both were exceptional....desserts to die for!.......... We will be back soon! The menu not huge but excellent choices for all tastes, reasonable prices and good portion sizes!

Managed to squeeze us in on a Saturday night so definitely need to book. Had a lovely meal but had to rush as they needed our table and because the place isn't very big there's no room to stand at the bar as all tables are used for dining.

We went to the Queen's Head for a birthday meal. We both chose sirloin steak and chips and summer salad. My plate of food was very good - the meat was tender and the salad fresh and tasty. Unfortunately my husband's steak had sinews running through it which meant he could not eat some of his steak. When he mentioned the problem to the waiting staff there was no positive reaction/apology. Why do staff ask you if everything is alright and you tell them "No I'm not happy!"they then ignore your comment? When our plates were collected and it was obvious that some of the steak was inedible, we asked the waitress to consult the chef - surely it was obvious that one of the steaks would not produce an enjoyable meal?. Our plates were taken away but there was no response from the staff member about the problem. When we asked the waitress she became very upset thinking we were complaining about her. A discussion with the manager was unhelpful and no offer was made to deduct anything from the cost of the meal or to compensate in any way for what was an unsatisfactory meal and poor service. If restaurants want customers to return or recommend, staff need to be more sensitive to complaints.

Family visiting so wanted a quaint village pub miles from anywhere so this fitted the bill. Prompt service and nice range of food choice. Plenty of plate so left full to the brim.

Came for lunch, a little late, but were greeted with no problems regarding table or food. Excellent menu and the food was as expected, first class. We have visited this pub on several occasions (before and after new management) and never had a bad meal. The staff do a really good job, the atmosphere is always good. A pleasure to eat there.

We visited The Crown for a midweek lunch. We had our dog with us so didn’t want the formal dining room. The tables at the front were busy so we found a cosy snug at the back which was almost empty. We had a catch of the day fish and chips, complete with excellent crunchy chips and a smoked fish platter, also very nice. As expected, the full range of Adnams beers were available and in excellent condition. However, what we must really commend The Crown on was the attentive staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them. For example, I asked the barman if there was any water bowls for dogs outside? No need to go outside he replied and dropped what he was doing and brought one to our table. We will definitely return when we ext visit Southwold.

6 of us dropped in for a drink after the cinema at 22.05 today . Totally deserted except for one customer at the bar. Waited over 5 minutes before the customer offered to find the bar staff. Empty glasses on bar and tables so obviously work to do but no staff. Young lady eventually appeared and promptly said we've finished serving. No apology. I am amazed bars can afford to turn away 6 customers let alone without an apology. Also strange on 2nd July to read Christmas menus displayed around the walls. No idea if these are very early for this year or left up from last year? I've worked in hospitality much of my life and the golden rule is 'never turn away a paying customer' Unfortunately a no stars review wasn't an option. Very disappointing.

Had to wait 3/4 of hour for a breakfast. No mugs available. Staff clearing trays away handing dirty crockery and table numbers then going to food counter to touch people's plates without cleaning hands first.food left on serving counter for ages before being brought out, people then sending it back because it was then cold as ours was,not as good as it used to be

Ok a 2 hour wait is totally unacceptable! On ordering I was told that delivery would be an hour, so ok great know, they’re busy, but happy they had told me this. After hour and half called and told , oh yeah your order is here on table, will be there in 5 minutes……….after the initial call, 2 hours later our order arrived, I think a free dessert would have been a great gesture. Our food was delicious though, roast dinner and a burger were tasty but this 2 hour wait needs addressing!
