The Quayside Exchange in Sunderland

So after our wedding party being cancelled due to Covid 19 it’s taken over 6 months to recover my deposit. After initially being told we would be refunded then another email saying we cancelled and would not get a refund. I’m pretty sure your venue being closed due to a Pandemic is NOT me cancelling. After a few emails back and forth they suddenly stopped responding. Fortunately for me I had paid the deposit on my Credit card who were able to reverse the transaction under a section 75 chargeback. If my bank had not stepped in and refunded me on there behalf I believe I would never have been refunded 6 months of being fobbed if is more than enough. I would strongly urge anyone else in a similar position to contact your card company. The Quayside Exchange seem to think it ok to keep your money and ignore all correspondents It’s such a shame it had to come to this, it could have been delt with so much better. The terrible service speaks volumes

We had our wedding Do booked here. We booked it in advance of lockdown and the event was due in September. Customer service was great. I spoke to someone called Tracey and she was always brilliant. We then received an email saying the Do had been rescheduled for the next year and we could also look at a sister hotel. No worries. Totally understandable. From that moment on however I've been in communication with someone named Angela and customer service has absolutely plummeted. I'm guessing, since I've not had a reply to my email dated 5th May, that our Wedding Do isn't happening at your venue?? The emails I did get from Angela have been short and unhelpful and asked me to repeat all the information I'd already been through. I appreciate maybe network access is tough if working from home but systems need to be better if all your booking have been treated like we have. Customer service terrible considering I've already paid a deposit and booked the event!

Just amazing, from booking a year before, meetings with staff then the party night, the staff were very helpful, the 3 rooms are just amazing go and have a look, we had the top floor big room it was amazing you can have there beautiful decorations or do your own we had a great gatsby party so did own table decks but used some of there own things as well, we had there disco which was fab you send them a mix of tunes and they play them, there is 2 smaller bars to get served at they have draught and bottles, they are just off the big room which was fab there is seating in them if you want to chill we had the magic mirror photo in one of them it got people mixing too, there was a few guests commenting on the prices of the drinks which were more expensive than bars in town but you do expect to pay more in these venues I would not hesitate to have another party here thanks again to all the staff

Went to a Christmas party here and paid £7.50 for a CAN of Guinness.That's £30 for a four pack!! Shouldn't be allowed. Music was ridiculously loud and I've now got a sore throat through trying to soak over it. Bit of advice...... take ear plugs and PLENTY OF MONEY or better still, don't go. Wish there was a 0 or a thumbs down button 🤨

Visited for my friends birthday here the other week and can only say how much of a great place this is to throw a party! I was greeted by a lovely gentleman at the door on arrival and then was shown to the Tempest room which was stunning! I was even more over the moon when the barmaid told me they had the parma violet gin! food was also delicious and dj was fab couldn't fault a thing!

I went to a wedding reception here , the room was very nice but there were no draught beers / lagers /ciders available only bottles and cans which were extortionate.Quite a few other people have had the same experience when attending a function here so its obviouslysomething they do to make more profit. Never Again.

When my neice mentioned this venue, we'd never heard of it. We were a little concerned when we pulled up outside. Not the best location I've seen. But the inside was a different matter altogether. That's where the magic happens ! They booked the middle floor with the little vaulted ceiling and the outside terrace. They were beautiful and atmosheric. The service we received was perfect and proffessional. The food was amazing ! We danced the night away and even gatecrashed the live band upstairs much to the amusement of the public bar. We then popped up to the travelodge a hundred yards away for a great nights sleep. I cannot recommend them enough. Dont let the outside put you off.

Stopped here for a rest and was delighted to find strawberry and rhubarb cider. Very nice. We sat on the terrace which didn't have much of a view and needed some TLC. Inside was nicely decorated and staff were very friendly and helpful.

Visited here recently for a night time wedding party. Lovely venue, beautifully decorated. Food in buffet was lovely, although not a huge choice. Drinks a little on the expensive side but that's to be expected. Was a little shocked to hear staff had entirely cleared what was left of sweet trolley that was supplied as a gift for the happy couple when they retuned next morning to collect their cake and gifts! Room was a little cold, but there was plug in heaters to take advantage of. Overall a good place for a party, would happily visit again!

The day was perfect in every way, Starting with the magnificent dressing of the room by Best Dress Rooms to the quality and presentation of the food. Staff were efficient and effective, would recommended the ende for your special daay.

Our friend used the Quayside exchange for their wedding, which included getting married and having the meal and celebration do after.Its a lovely place, with a couple of rooms and very friendly and helpful staff throughout the whole day/evening. The meal was plentiful and tasty too. Reasonable prices at the bar. Throughout the day the venue was at all times clean and tidy. It was the perfect place to get married in and join in on the celebrations after.

Attended my Nephews Wedding ceremony, breakfast and night reception here - a variety of venues in the building to cater for all sizes of party and has large outdoor terraces . The food was good for sit down and buffets - good views of the river

Attended a wedding night on Friday evening. Room beautifully decorated. Plenty of room on dance floor. Fairly pleasant staff. Drink prices as expected for this type of establishment (just under £23 for a bottle of Rose and a pint of lager).

Had an amazing time at the New Years Eve party this year. The decor of the room was festive and elegant and set the tone perfectly. The 5 course dinner was excellent, portions substantial and very tasty. Two complimentary glasses of bubbly, wine for the meal and a post midnight sandwich all added to the excellent value for money. The entertainment was non stop and meant that the night was over before you knew it! My friend and I had a great time and would certainly consider it again.

Fab night. A brilliant night was had by all 12 in our party. Everything was tremendous. All meals delicious especially the parsnip soup ( wish I had the recipe) . The atmosphere, entertainment, disco , piper etc were all spot on and to round it all off a 12.00 glass of sparkly and a late bacon sandwich just topped the night off. Thanks to my friends, other guests and all the very helpful and friendly staff for the amazing start to our 2017.

Cannot thank The Quayside Exchange enough for putting on such a fabulous event. The event was well organised and coordinated. The food and entertainment were top class and we could not fault anything at all. Thank you for a fabulous family friendly New Year we will be back next year

The Quay Exchange is one of Sunderland's iconic civic buildings, originally built over 200 years ago and retains some of its original features. We attended the first of their Christmas party nights and were treated to a lovely evening of food, service and entertainment.

We just got married last Friday and have nothing but good things to say about the whole experience. The staff were warm and friendly, very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The venue was beautifully decorated, the ceremony was held upstairs and was a dream, then the whole ensemble was ushered downstairs while the staff turned the room around for the wedding breakfast. It looked breathtaking. The food was absolutely incredible! Especially the carrot and coriander soup which a lot of people have commented on! Huge portion of beef with the main meal, and a yummy pudding to boot. Very generous portion sizes, served quickly and efficiently and all hot.

I was at a wedding evening party on Saturday. The room was nice (this was decorated by the family) and the disco was good. The buffet left a lot to be desired, the sandwiches were dry and the filling was sparse. The pizza was the cheapest you could get, which was burned, the quiche was void of taste and very watery. There was no one there making sure everything was ok. the food was just put on the table and left. I dont know what the couple paid, but I think the whole lot would have cost the venue about £150 (if that)

The Quayside Exchange offer a drag queen entertainment show on a monthly basis. Great entertainment in a wonderful venue

I attended a wedding here and it was perfect. The venue has recently been redecorated and the Grand Room upstairs is particularly beautiful. Food and drinks are affordable and the staff are extremely helpful. If you're booking an event they can also offer extras such as room decorations and photo booth etc.

We had our wedding here on 2nd April 2016. Love this venue especially the vaulted basement where we had our ceremony and wedding breakfast. Excellent value for the wedding package and what was included. Food was absolutely gorgeous along with our hot/cold evening buffet. The staff could not do enough for us and despite a few minor hiccups due to a last minute change of master of ceremonies, our day was amazing!

Recent family engagement party and the staff made the evening perfect. Food was excellent venue and and decoration faultless. Staff ensured everything was arranged around our requests and their friendly helpful manor created a relaxed evening .
