The Potting Shed in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Despite visiting the garden centre on numerous occasions, I’d never visited the Potting Shed , what a find! The food was splendid ( the sausage and mash was probably the best I’ve ever tasted ) but the real assets for the restaurant are the staff , everyone of them was so genuinely friendly. The young man who helped me at the ice cream counter went out his way to help me with my friend’s dessert ( my friend has Alzheimer’s and can be quite specific in her likes and dislikes) . He went the extra mile and I’m only sorry I didn’t note his name but thank you , it made my friend’s day ! We will definitely be back !

Came in today (18/09/24) for birthday lunch with friends. Had the Brisket Dirty Fries and they were amazing. Great service and amazing food. Thank you all.

The best breakfast anywhere, so tasty, very comfortable, smart and clean restaurant. The service is second to none, very friendly and accommodating with our two dogs, highly recommend the breakfasts and lunches.

Fantastic food and service, portions were great and the price was very good for what you got. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be going back especially as we have heard they are doing a Sunday roast soon .

This is a great spot for brunch as they have a variety of choices. I had the portobello mushroom eggs Benedict on sourdough toast, with tasted amazing ! Definitely worth it, go try it! :)

Great spot for food or coffee and a cake. Had one of their mango smoothies and cakes and it was delicious. Tried lunch and breakfast here previously which have always been amazing. Team are a friendly bunch and the place is always busy which proves the food is great! Love the decor too.

Excellent service by really fantastic friendly staff, the food is the best you will get anywhere around. The tables are always kept clean and tidy a pleasant relaxing friendly place to visit.

Having eaten here before and been impressed we were not disappointed with a second visit. Arrive about 11 on a Saturday morning and it wasn’t as busy as we thought it would be. Shown straight to our table and ordered coffee within a couple of minutes which arrived quite quickly. Subsequently ordered a large Full English and the Butchers Benedict which again were quick out of the kitchen and a great quality. Service was friendly and relaxed. Will definitely return to try the lunch or brunch menu. Milkshakes and sundaes also looked enticing.

The coffee is great here and the breakfast wrap was the best I’ve had! Not soggy and super full with components. Will definitely be back again 👍🏻

Our first visit, popping in for coffee and cake and we were really impressed. The decor is beautiful, atmosphere very relaxing, choice of food and drink great, cleanliness immaculate and staff go out of their way to provide exceptionally efficient and friendly service. Nothing is too much trouble. We will definitely be returning very soon for a proper meal.

Enjoyed lunch here before several times but the menu has changed, with fewer choices and for my family it was very, very disappointing. What a shame! Please check the new lunch menu and decide if it is OK before you go there.

Took mum to Newquay Garden Centre at 10am this morning, and it was already busy but we were quickly seated and service was warmand freindly. Instead of toast I had an extra sausage. We didnt wait long and mums teacake and my breakfast came out together and were delicious. (nice runny egg!) There was quite a queue when we came out so best get there early if on a Sat am.

Been to the Potting Shed many times. One of our favourite stop offs after appointments and place to meet up with friends for lunch but today’s visit was disappointing. We took a friend to the Potting Shed for lunch. It was her first time. After telling her about how we go to the Potting Shed regularly she said let’s go. The menu has been changed. Not to the extent that it was. Very disappointing.

Great lunch. Good selection of home cooked food and delicious cakes. Ice creams. The friendly staff are helpful. We will be back.

Brekky was nice . Looked quite small for £9.50 when it came out but I am not a massive meal person so not too bad. The bacon / sausage was lovely , egg was poached to perfection, the bread they used was so nice . Only main gripe was the hash brown was kinda over cooked.

We came yesterday for my sister's birthday ,we were a party of 5 sat on table 18. It was my first time visiting here and I wasn't disappointed. When we arrived there was a bit of a queue and it having taken a good 10 mins to get there through temporary traffic lights we were a little concerned about time. Wait time was nominal and we were soon shown in by a lovely friendly young man. Such a happy place with plants everywhere ,light and airy ,busy but very well organised. Our order was taken in good time and food service super fast and efficient especially considering how busy they were. I had a veggie breakfast and oat milk cappuccino , delicious . Next time we'll be back to try one of the delicious cakes on display with coffee. Young lady who served us was very professional all round great experience. Good to note tables not too close to each other and the toilets were impeccable. Fantastic we'll be bringing other family members out soon .

Receptionist at out hotel recommended this place for lunch and she was on the money! The staff were friendly and quick, the food was delicious (may I suggest the Nachos and banoffee pie) and even picked up a few bargains in the garden centre.

Met with friends for lunch. A short wait for a table for 4 as they were full. No paninis available, as the waitress said they only had one chef. There is not a lot of choice on the menu. We all opted for the all day breakfast, waited half an hour, it was OK -some of the items, sausage, beans, hash brown & tomato were not piping hot. Would have sent back, but would have to wait another half an hour. £50 for 4 breakfasts of 1 egg, 1 sausage, 1 rasher bacon, half a tomato, a hash brown, a few beans and a slice of toast, plus 2 teas & coffees was not great value. Will go to Brewers Fayre next time. Really did not like people being allowed to bring dogs in, one lady even had two digs with her. Not that hygienic to my mind, as a dalmation was slavering everywhere. Don't think we will return.

Non planned visit, we have never frequented the potting shed before. Family of 6 with 3 dogs and a baby, we were made to feel very welcome. Food was lovely and milkshakes were something else. Highly recommend and we will be defo be regular customers from now onwards.👍

Despite saying they are dog friendly, they’re really not, which is disappointing as they used to be so accommodating if you had a dog…. We live locally and brought some friends for breakfast before their long drive home, we were queuing for some time, when we reached the front of the queue, we were told we couldn’t go in yet because we had a dog with us, (which has never been a problem before) and there wasn’t a dog friendly table available. We had really praised this place to our friends as always great service and WAS dog friendly, However when we were told we could eventually go in we were told that breakfast service had just finished, and lunch was going to be served, we were not told when queuing that it was unlikely we would get breakfast because of the wait, otherwise we would of gone somewhere else, but as it’s now 11.30 and we are all hungry we went in. Only to find a rude waitress and felt like we were being stared at to eat quicker as they wanted the table back for more customers waiting….. it was a really disappointing experience compared to our pervious visits, we are not hard to please people, we just don’t understand the new rules about bringing dogs, and I get they are busy on a Sunday morning and expect a wait to be seated but never experienced anything like this Sunday. I think they really need to review their dog policy as it is not dog friendly if anything you get penalised for having a dog. So unfortunately until this changes we won’t be bringing our visitors to visit.

So we stood waiting whilst multiple groups of people queuing behind us, who didn’t have dogs, were let through. When we were told we could eventually go in we were told that breakfast service had just finished, and lunch wasn’t being served for another 20mins! Asked what we could order we were told coffee and cakes. On being seated, the first thing I noted was that there was no special area for dogs, it’s a wooden floor throughout, so no carpet or anything that made it not dog suitable. There was another couple with their dog, who had also been bypassed for the others without dogs, they were sat a couple of tables away. I don’t understand the concept, why were we made to wait when there’s nothing specific making an area dog friendly or non dog area?? When we left, our “dog friendly table” was given to the next people in the queue who didn’t have a dog, yet there were people behind them who did have a dog, if you’re being so specific, why didn’t they get to jump the queue?? As for the food, I can’t comment, we were offered the lunch menu which didn’t suit my requirements, the non-meat eating options were limited, and the waitress when we mentioned it was quite rude and abrupt, stating there was vegetarian options on there (I can read thanks), great if you like falafel or couscous, unfortunately I very much dislike both! So I had coffee which was nice, but left very hungry! The chap working there was unhelpful with an air of arrogance about him, and definitely couldn’t justify what had happened when asked, it was like he was making it up as he went along, we weren’t the only ones complaining either! AVOID if you have a dog!

This is the second time this has been awful in as many weeks, even though I vowed not to return ! After a disastrous breakfast for a family of six which resulted in everyone getting the breakfast at different times, mine was stone cold and I was made to feel as if I was a burden when I asked for it to be swapped! they were rude when I paid that 120 pound bill and it has not changed this time. Even though the cafe was empty and I asked for a larger table because I needed to do some work, whilst I had breakfast, all I got was a resounding NO to my request, and a derisory laugh from the female member of staff (who was the same one as last time) when I said I was going elsewhere. The man who I assume was the manager was no better.

Lovely staff, fast service, and checking to make sure everything was good. Coffee was especially! 🙌

I've been meaning to leave this review for the last few visits as this place is just lovely. Perfect atmosphere, friendly and quick service and the food.... omg if your looking for a really reeeally perfect burger and fries, this is the place. We have only ever eaten this on our 3 visits as we just can't get enough. The staff are what really makes this place work. Always friendly, smiling... just happy! It makes for a lovely relaxed restaurant/ cafe. The cake looks veeery scrummy too. All in all highly recommend The Potting Shed. We love it!!!! I dropped in to have some breakfast after running some errands in Newquay. I'd heard good things but never eaten here. I was absolutely impressed by the quality of the breakfast, the eggs were bright orange, the sausage was juicy and perfectly cooked. The hash browns were crispy perfection. The only thing I could possible suggest would be that the large breakfast could have two slices of toast, but that's just me being a glutton. 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 hash browns, tomato, sausage, toast, beans and a field mushroom for £12.50 was a delight. The service was excellent and the coffee was served almost immediately and was also very good. I'll be back!

Always really great friendly service and breakfasts are top notch. Always hot and fresh, really good quality ingredients and there's a lovely atmosphere. Far from the stereotypical 'garden centre cafe', its really a firm favourite with locals of all ages.
