I had to stay overnight in Winchester as my little dog was referred to a nearby veterinary hospital. Craig took my call at 10pm and quickly booked a room for me and even prepared some sandwiches. I dont have an opinion about the room or the general comfort, but the service that both Craig and his colleague Adam(?) provided was exceptional. Thank you for looking after me.

This stay was absolutely disappointing. I went for a business trip and stayed overnight. We had dinner and breakfast. From the beginning I had to get my room changed because the radiator was broke and the windows were not closing at all,at least the room was cleaner than the one I got afterwards. The second room that I was moved in was extremely dirty, used tissues under the desk, hair clips on the carpet, hair on the bathroom floor. They have gave me an electric radiator at least. The windows were full of cobwebs and dust. The dinner was not very nice, the pasta with meat balls was disgusting (we got 10 discount because of that). The goats cheese tart was the only thing that was edible, the apple coleslaw was missing the apples and was warm. The breakfast was very good, however we had to ask for the table to be cleaned (after we tried 3 tables and all of them were dirty). The staff were very accommodating with all the issues. The hotel definitely needs better management and a full maintenance. It is a shame that such a beautiful building is in this state. Just again I want to mention that the staff was very helpful and hospitable.

I can't say too much about this place as we didn't get the chance to stay. All I can say is that it looks like they are massively missing a chunk of a potential audience. They don't do roasts on a Sunday! & they don't serve food all day on a Sunday either, which was a real shame. We past the place earlier in the day & said to each other, we must go there on the way back for food as it looks stunning from the outside! Hey-ho 🤷‍♂️

This experience is based upon our booking of a meeting room, food and beverages only. The hotel is located on the outskirts of Romsey and the picturesque village of Hursley. Neither is walking distance. The area is very pretty and rural. There is plenty of parking. The hotel is accessible and from the outside, looked after. When I entered the hotel, it was surprisingly difficult to find members of staff, and especially one with an inclination to engage with customers. The person who came to reception having seen us was very polite and tried to be helpful. We were shown through to the meeting room booked. There were 2 balcony areas and the rooms were clearly underutilised one of the desks for example, having a selection of childrens and adult books, and children's games. (In an area called the 'Business Zone'?) The recpetionist left. We boiled a kettle to make our own teas and coffees ... the booked beverages were nowhere to be seen. 30 minutes after they were booked (and confirmed) to arrive, I had to go back to reception (no other way to contact them) to ask about our 'breakfast foods' ... "you haven't booked any". Not only had they been booked, but also paid for. Whilst they were then sorted out, the food and beverages were delivered over a further 50 minute period (without plates/cutlery) luckily, our client was understanding that this wasn't a reflection on us. The 'facilities' were back to reception again as those close-by the meeting room were 'unusable'. Whilst the 'habits' of some customers cannot be blamed on the hotel, dealing with them is and they didn't. All in all, poor value for money, poor service (receptionist excluded), poor food quality and to then be sent an invoice by email afterward with the words "Thank you for hosting your meeting with us at the Potters Heron. Apologies for the delay, but I have attached the invoice for your meeting. I hope all went well, and if you need anything else please let me know." The conference salesperson who sent this and made the booking with us, was nowhere to be seen on the day and seemingly had communictaed nothing to colleagues of our requirements. It would be such a great venue for us when we're working in the south, but sadly, not one we will return to. The meeting space we used 'The Braishfield' was pleasant enough with a large picture window and balcony onto the garden and excellent secure WiFi with good technology. Arrived after a four and a half hour drive to discover that there was no food service in the main restaurant & bar "because we are having a wedding today" (despite having printed menus available in the restaurant and 3-4 staff standing chatting and doing nothing at this point). We were part of the evening celebrations for the wedding and were aware that this event had been booked months in advance...why was this not catered for? This added insult to injury, as when we asked if we may check in slightly earlier, a "housekeeper" was asked by a very professional & attentive receptionist if our rooms were ready...the housekeeper overtly sneered at the receptionist and replied in an irritated tone "I don't know". When asked by the receptionist if the housekeeper could go and check, the housekeeper appeared even more agitated and said, "Well, I suppose I'm gonna have to" and walked away...all of this occurred whilst my wife and I were present at the desk and we were mortified! As professional business managers with strong people & team ethics, we felt embarrassed for the receptionist, disgust at the housekeepers attitude and blatant disregard for both the customer and her colleagues (and the brand of the business!! Check in was at 1500hrs but we didn't get our room until 1520hrs after pressure applied!! Witnessed people attempting to check in with small children at the same time and heard them being told that it would be at least half an hour before the room is ready...not acceptable!! Food for the evening celebrations was of a good quality, thank you, but I would question the room hidden just behind where you served this food and which also adjoins the walkway to and from your kitchens?!? (Pictures attached) On the way to breakfast the following morning we encountered the "housekeeper" from the day before andshe just scowled and ignored us without acknowledgement. Some breakfast items were cold, and some bacon and sausage were undercooked, which is a shame as they were quality british farm produce. You waited for the trays to empty completely before replenishing, which left large queues waiting for food. Food heating trays were not hot enough to maintain temperature. Both myself and my wife had stomach troubles after this encounter. The rooms were maintained at a low level of hygiene and those that had outside space were met with weeds, coffee (or blood?) stains on the unvarnished, rotten furniture and paving slabs. I forgot to mention the piles of cigarette stubs on the floor too...as a smoker, please provide ashtrays if you provide outside spaces! Back to the restaurant...tables caked in gunge, food and drink spillages over most floors and seating. 30 mugs and saucers checked for cleanliness at breakfast and found just two of each without stains or grime on them Wishing the owners well, but, first visit & last visit until all issues have been addressed Classic 'Fawlty Towers' type of operation from start to finish 😔

Booked via Paulton's Park website for a short break as the pictures looked lovely but the place was very tired. Rooms were desperately in need of a refurb and whilst were surface cleaned felt in need of a deep clean such as the carpets, windows and doors. The outside area had weeds and cigarette butts. Staff were friendly but cancelled our evening reservation for food due to needing to close the kitchen last minute and weren't very helpful. Breakfast was okay quality. If I could give this hotel a zero I would! We book as part of the Paultons park short breaks, what a mistake! Upon arriving in the room, we noticed BLACK MOULD on the walls, door, window frames and curtains, damp walls, filth everywhere! The cleaner must need their eye sight checking. The bathrooms was disgusting with the pipes, skirting and toilet seat covered in dust and hair. The taps would spit out little bits of rust when you ran the water. All around the taps and grout was filthy. We were there for a 2 night stay, 4 hours from home and although I desperately tried to book a different hotel, I couldn’t find one to accommodate my family with a toddler and baby. When we moved to the second room, although thankfully not moudly, it was still filthy and covered in dust. Not even Fred Flintstone would want to sleep there. The beds were so hard. I have put in a complaint with Paultons short breaks but they couldn’t help us with a new hotel, all they could do was offer a refund for our stay. Breakfast was also less than desirable with the “hot food” being cold in the serving dishes and the continental breakfast had undercooked pastry’s. Your safest bet was a bowl of cereal. The manager we dealt with did try and help us and was clearly embarrassed but it’s very concerning that they either aren’t aware of the state of the rooms or just don’t care. The hotels face is a beautiful thatched building but the rooms are located in a poorly constructed extension with a flat roof with shed felt.

We booked our stay through the Paultons Park website. The hotel looks very nice, the staff are friendly and the breakfast was good. We had dinner there on the first night, which was good, but our young children preferred the less posh food we had the second night. The hotel room is the reason for the low star rating, as that is the main reason for our stay. The room was quite dated and smelt like pine wood, which we assume was the new bunk bed. The towels weren’t clean and had some brown on, which we hope was chocolate and not something worse. The bottom bunk didn’t have any sides, and my four year old son fell out of bed three times over the two nights. Fortunately, we lined each side of the bunk bed with the spare pillows so he didn’t get hurt, but it meant we had broken nights sleep getting up and helping him back to bed. We did also see a peacock as we left the hotel, which was nice.

Booked as part of visit to Paultons Park. Room was okay, very dusty behind bedside units as well as no plug socket next to the bed. Cot had no mattress, sheet was placed on top of wooden base, luckily we brought our travel cot. Hot water stopped working so was unable to take a shower. The corridor leading up to our room absolutely stank of weed both the night we arrived and the morning we left. Food was pricey and absolutely not worth the money, better quality food can be found in Wetherspoons, avoid the burger, very dry, chips incredibly greasy, service very slow. Breakfast was okay. Will not be returning.

A massive BnB with 55 rooms and wedding function availability. Good bar area which doubles up for breakfast area. A 2 night stay over the weekend. We usually stay at the Cromwell Arms in Romsey. This was the first time at the Potters Heron and our last im sorry to say. We were welcomed with a damp smell at reception but we were quickly given our key to room 29. The room was ok but the bathroom was a bit cramped. Get rid of the baths just a shower needed. I would say every door, cupboard or draw with a handle needs a good clean or tightening. Most of the entry doors need cleaning where you put your hand to open all over the hotel. We were upgraded from room 29 to 20 because we were too close to people traffic going to their rooms. This could be a really great place but needs every room looking at. Both our rooms and the showers need a good clean plus both showers were loose. Get down to the Cromwell arms and check out their quality rooms and take some advice.

Booked here for a last minute night away. I found the bar staff to be inattentive and slow at acknowledging. Hotel seemed modern and recently renovated initially, but once we got to the room, it appeared very tired and the bathroom especially so. The mattress in room 42 was so soft it was impossible to get comfortable on, felt like we were in a half deflated inflatable bed. Reception staff did rectify this though and allowed us to move rooms to one with. Better bed. I would say though that the second room smelt of cigarette smoke and downstairs smelt a bit like a sewer. We tried to call through to reception multiple times, initially for the bed issue and then to order room service but the calls were never answered and appealed to be put in divert to some other phone. We were charged twice however again this was rectified. Reception staff phoned our room to inform us of the refund at 11pm and had woken us up, no idea why they thought that was a good time to make contact! I probably wouldn't stay here again. Which is a shame as on the surface appeared nice.

My nan was served soup with no spoon. Was told they had run out temporarily as they were being used for the wedding. So she had to wait for a spoon while the rest of us ate. My dad complained afterwards by phone but the managed never bothered getting back in touch with him. Should have been a special celebration for an 80th birthday but it was miserable. Why accept extra bookings when holding a wedding if you clearly don't have the staff or resources?

Turning elderly customers down who had turned up for lunch when the place was empty. We waited for our food for about 45mins. My husband had just run half a marathon and was starving! To receive burnt bread and chips still frozen. Was so depressing. The soup clearly not homemade ( not everywhere does, I understand) however had some very strange after taste for a carrot and coriander soup. Such a shame as we were both starving. I asked about other options as there was nothing else on the menu I fancied and I was told by a chap (who could possibly have been manager) that there was turkey with cranberry.... perfect, so ordered and sat down with drinks. After about 45minutes we were a little concerned that no food had arrived so have it another 15minutes and went to enquire. Staff said she will find out. The reception had a bit of a damp smell, but I suspect this was due to the miserable weather and people walking in water. The rooms were nice and ok decent repair, the showers were hot and the rooms were warm. We did notice quite a bit of condensation on the single glazed windows however it didn't feel damp or cold at all during our stay. There was a lovely view from the room. Breakfast was very nice and abundant - a help yourself Full-English buffet.

For the purpose of my visit location was perfect along with the staff, they were great. However, do not be fooled by the nice looking thatched exterior because it’s a different story when you walk inside! The place stinks of damp, likened to my nan’s when I was a kid. It is majorly run down with torn carpets and stained carpets in places. There is no air conditioning with windows in our room not closing properly. Dirty stains all around the room with signs of damp all around the windows. Simply not good and not worth the money!

Initial reaction was that it was a pleasant hotel in a convenient location. On closer inspection it is a bit tired and jaded. Room was ok but a bit scruffy round the edges. There is a need for some staff training. Some very very good, others were not very professional although pleasant enough. So, in summary nothing really bad to say about it, but nothing outstanding either.

We walked in and the smell hits you straight away, like old persons home. The phone at reception says it all its from the 1980’s. Spiders hanging from the ceiling as you walk down the corridor. Food left outside rooms in the corridor. We opened the hotel room and we paid for the “premier” king, the carpet was like toffee. The room smelt damp and due to asthma too, we sat on bed was hard and the springs were about to jump out, we walked straight out asked for our money back and promptly left. The management was friendly when checking in and out. While checking in, management asked how his dessert was, he replied “stringy, and there was no crumble it was like a bit of oats, Honestly would not stay here for £40 never mind £140. I dread to know what the kitchen and fridge looks like.

Beautiful looking hotel, well presented! clean and comfortable bedroom, bathroom a let down with mould around tub and grubby taps. Food overpriced for average meals, drinking glasses not very clean. My little girl loved to see the peacock visit on a few occasions! We visited for Peppa Pig world so will not be visiting again, but with those slight problems fixed I would recommend a stay.

I want to give this place 5 stars just based on the amazing staff that works at this place. But unfortunately I can't. As for the location, it is perfect it is minutes from everything. The service was 5 stars. The staff is amazing. I don't know how many times I need to mention that to let people know. They have some of the best hotel staff I have ever come across. Now, let's talk about the hotel. It is run down, worn down, stained carpet, no air conditioning. Thankfully, the weather was cool. The windows don't close correctly. The caulking around the windows is peeling and cracking as if the windows are about to fall out. There is no water pressure in the shower. The hotel smells like my grandmother's basement. It has a very old, musky, moldy smell everywhere you go. You can see water coming in through the windows when it rains and the paint is coming off. The walls around the windows are bubbling under the paint. The doors don't close right. They slam very loudly. They sill us a key with a big wooden stick that doesn't fit in your pocket. Please remodel fix this place up...

Stopped for some food after a day out on the coast having been here in the past. Such a disappointment considering previous visits had been fine. Even though the restaurant was far from busy the service was ridiculously slow, from ordering drinks to meals to arrive over an hour and 15 minutes passed. There was no warning or guidance, had we known would’ve chosen a different venue.

As ever clean and friendly. But very disappointed with the breakfast. No vegan option for the cooked stuff, or no notice that it is available if you as! Price has jumped from £10 - £15. Just not worth it. Fruit looked sad, no option on yogurt. Carton stuff may be low fat but stuffed with sugar. Pastry section very limited too. I've loved the place in the past but l guess austerity has crept in.

A very quaint looking hotel from the outside and surprisingly large on the inside. Very attractive thatched roof on the main front of house hospitality building. Comfortable room with everything you need except no air-conditioning or iron and ironing board provided in room. I really liked the interior design of the bar and restaurant. Clearly a nice wedding venue. I stayed for business and the staff were very polite and helpful. Good price for room and breakfast. My only criticism is the paintwork across the whole hotel could do with re-doing as it is well worn.

Overall, a very nice and inviting hotel pub and restaurant, which is well located in terms of transport and still offers a lot of greenery around it. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms simple and slightly outdated, but clean and absolutely sufficient without a lot of frills. You feel comfortable straight away. Dinner was very pleasant and very tasty. You could sit inside or, when the weather was good, outside - no/hardly any traffic noise. Breakfast in the morning is typically English and also very good in selection. I would use it again if I came back to the area. Recommended.

Stopped for lunch having visited for coffee a few weeks previously. Cider soaked ham with egg and chips was our choice. We found the ham to be tough, but everything else was great. The menu was varied and interesting and we will eat there again. The staff were brilliant organising a reduced size portion for my wife was no problem to them. Of course we had to have a hot drink because of the wonderful melt-in-your-mouth shortbread biscuit !

The hotel has no AC in the rooms, and actually they have no running ventilation in the sleeping area, just the bathroom. Speaking of area, the area around the hotel is tragic. On the plus side the pizza is delicious and the drafted beer is cold and cheap. Parking is free. The mood and the competence of the crew varies a lot.

Very good boba tea. The menu board listed different teas, although all were being served with Jasmine tea when I visited. I didn't mind this as I prefer Jasmine tea over black or green tea.

Ordered food from Stax and Snax and received a burger that was completely undercooked and pink in the middle, on complaining was told to bring it back for replacement even though I had it delivered. Offered to refund the burger and replace but only if I collected. Disgusting service, please check your food before eating if ordering from deliveroo or any other delivery service.

This place looked lovely and the staff were polite but we won’t be returning. My husband and I ordered pies and the kids had macaroni cheese with veg. Unfortunately my pie came out cold with one small piece of broccoli as the veg and some dried mash potato. My husband had a warm pie with an equally disappointing amount of veg. The staff apologised and replaced my pie with another even colder beef and ale pie that was now soggy too. I sent it back and declined their kind offer of a replacement. The children had corn on the cob that was slimy and overcooked but they liked the rest of their dinner. We did get a refund for the two cold pies. On leaving I noticed the toilets were dirty and there was a lot of dog hair all over the floors. I hope they take this review as an opportunity to improve the quality of the place.
