Excellent meal, perfectly cooked by head chef Sean. Professionally served by Willie and Gemma. I had the brie then the roast beef. Perfectly cooked. Claire had the pate, George's home made recipe, then the scampi. Well done team .. 11 out of 10 xx

10 of us visited the Plough for a meal before the ABBA show at the Corn Exchange next door. The food was lovely, excellent value for money at the 2 course set dinner for £14.95. Food was delivered prompt & hot by the fab staff who couldn’t do enough for us. On a personal note, I had the cheesecake for dessert & it was to die for! Thanks for a lovely night.

Welcome and friendly greeting. All the staff were lovely, attentive and polite. The food was the best anywhere I have ever been. Having been for a Christmas night out I already knew the food was tremendous, took my Dad and his companion, my Dad is notoriously fussy and normally leaves half his food, not day, he ate his soup and steak pie! It's £14.95 for two courses, it's a bargain! We will be back that's for sure!

I suggested The Plough for a long awaited get-together with my best friend as I have had so many good lunches there. I am convinced we did make the wrong choice in choosing the sharing dishes of black pudding, haggis, prawns etc although my friend who's continually avoiding fatty foods did enjoy it. Everything was fried in batter and even the extra chips weren't great, they were in my opinion undercooked. We will return, but with hindsight choose more carefully. The young Waitress who served us was very good.

Been here a few times now with my husband and new baby. The staff are so friendly and go out their way to help. The meals are lovely, portions are large, always fresh and full of flavour. Nothing is too much trouble for them. If your out for a meal it’s worth a visit you won’t be disappointed. The lentil soup is so tasty and filling. The roast beef is also really good, you can also have smaller portions if you can’t manage a large meal. Staff always welcome you and always seat us where there’s plenty room for our pram, we have been with our older sons too, one is a very fussy eater and he loves it here. Kids get pencils and paper to colour in and do puzzles which I think is great to keep them entertained. Will be returning again soon.

This is such a nice place to stay. Very friendly and the food is very good. It's also a great location as it's very close to lots of golf courses (if that's what you like), it's not far from the coast, some very pretty towns nearby, and you can still pop into the city centre of Edinburgh easily enough. I have stayed in the Plough four times, so obviously I like it here. Very good value for money and lovely people.

Looked at the reviews and thought this place looked quaint, did'nt worry to much that there were no photo's of the accomodation, reviews were of the food so thought must be okay ? How wrong was I ... dear dear me where to start. We arrived at 8.10pm on Friday the 8th of June and were told restaurant closed at 8pm and also asked to pay for rooms before we'd seen them which I thought was a bit strange... until I saw room and then knew why. If I'd seen befor I'd paid would have refused. I have attached some photographs to back up my review. I have never stayed in such a dump in my entire like and we have travelled all over and stayed in some "Basic" places before. The walls where covered in dirty marks, the furniture was straight from the 70's and chipped and dirty, someone else had left their coat in our wardrobe so that just shows the level of attention given by the cleaning staff??? There was dirty splash marks on the door frames, mould all over the bathroom and the shower seals were disgusting. The shower doors were broken and did not close correctly, actually coming away from their runners. The sink taps were marked the wrong way round ... so the cold tap was actually hot and the hot tap cold ... much to the disgust of my husband when he tried to brush his teeth! The carpet was disgusting ... it looked like it has'nt been hoovered in months and in some areas, like the gap between the wardrobe and door ... looked like it had'nt been hoovered in decades !. There were no curtains only strange tin blinds that did not close fully so we had terrible nights sleep. The beds were supposedly twin, but the mattresses were a lot smaller than the bases, no headboards so our lumpy pillows kept falling between the gaps. The beeding was a starange blue colour, bobberly and really poor quality. The chair had a massive hole in it which was hidden with a cushion, not safe to sit on. I did complain to the landlady only to be told that the rooms were a work in progress ???? What progress ??? I said that it should have been reflected in the price and at £70.00 per night NOT including breakfast was way too much. She just shrugged and that was that !!! To be honest if we had'nt already booked to see the Rolling Stones and were limited on time to find other accomadation we would have walked out. We never ate there .... after seeing the level of cleanliness of the rooms it made me question what the kitchens were like ... Eeewwww I did NOT want to find out. Will never return and urge others NOT to visit ... Yak !

We were planning to lunch at the Tyneside, but Paul is getting it ship-shape and it's looking good, but only light snacks until the Chef is in situ. He recommended the Plough which I hadn't been to for many years, (probably changed owners 3 times since I was a regular). I was surprised to get a table as by this time it was 1.45 and very busy. The main eating area hasn't changed much, but the strange undulation in the floor has gone to be replaced with wood in the back dining area. The kitchen seems to have been enlarged and much better. The decor and furnishings are a bit dated, but I like it. The Staff are welcoming and attentive. The menu offers are extensive and quite a few things appealed to us from the Specials Board. We decided to go for a main only and my Husband settled for Gammon Steak which he said was the best he had had in a long time which if going by his plate (almost clean enough to skip the dishwasher) was certainly true. I had the Roast Beef dinner which was excellent, everything on my plate was cooked to perfection i.e. Roast Beef, Yorkshire Pudding, boiled potatoes, carrots, green beans, mini corn cobs, I wasn't impressed by the Roast tatties, but I do realise that serving perfect roasters over a long period must be difficult. When I jokingly pointed out this small failing the lovely waitress berated and "killed" the chef, found this response particularly amusing. Adjustments were made to our bill for this little problem - which was not only surprising, but a superb way of dealing with it.Looking forward to future visits.

My partner then had the steak pie with roast potatoes and seasonal veg and I had the roast rib of beef with roast potatoes and veg. Both were delicious. The gravy was of very good quality and the meat was cooked to perfection. And the veg was seasoned well had a taste of butter. I would highly recommend this place for a lovely meal. We had lunch there today and it was good pub grub and the service was both efficient and friendly. Not the place for a special meal but fine for a quick lunch. We all go back.

I had not been to The Plough for a few years. I ordered from the special menu the rib beef roast with veg and roast ,boiled potatoes. The food was not hot ! the veg was not seasoned !, the beef, 2 thin slices with what tasted like gravy granules spread all over the beef was tasteless and lukewarm. The tiny Yorkshire pudding was soggy and tasteless. This meal reminded me of school dinners, but @ £10.20 with a can of juice, this was not a cheap and cheerful bar lunch. Very poor !

Literally just got up and walked out after reading the menu prices. We were here last summer for lunch, had one of the best bowls of Cullen skink soup to date, came back specifically for that today as in the area, only to find that for one bowl of soup as a starter was £9.95 or for a large bowl of the same is now priced at £15.95! FOR A BOWL OF SOUP! I know it’s a tourist hotspot, but take off your Dick Turpin masks No 12!!

Was rank, coffee was weak and hair in my pastry.. wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy to be honest. Would recommend Gregg's round the corner in all fairness.

Seems to be going down hill - toastie was a bit tasteless, cake was terrible - gluten free lime and coconut but so so stale and dry - didn't finish it. Coffee was good. When we mentioned the cake wasn't nice the waitress just smiled - An apology and perhaps it being taken off the bill would have been more appropriate.

Absolutely fantastic as always, both servers were brilliant. Food was outstanding as always. Even although the place was not busy the atmosphere was brilliant. Really enjoyed the flat iron steak it was so tender. Thank you everyone involved

A gem in Haddington with lots of nice homemade cosy food, a bakery and a shop! Go there for spending relaxing time with family and friends or just to treat yourself! Grilled nectarine and halloumi quinoa salad already replicated at home! Gnammy!
