Staff friendly and good choice of cakes. Unfortunately no full scottish breakfast on menu, coffee’s were not well presented and breakfast generally dry and overcooked poached eggs. Unlikely to recommend / return.

Sadly, can't comment on the food as it was a narrow choice (although I am on a special diet at the moment) so we only had coffee. My wife couldn't drink her Americano which was bitter and bland. This might have been due to them not having full-fat milk but my cappuccino was average at best and mostly foam. We walked over the road to Diggory's and their large cappuccino was cheaper, tastier and much better presented.

Exceptional! The staff, the atmosphere .. the food.. oh, the food! In particular, the cauliflower fritters. Oh, the fritters. Would have included a picture, but I ate it so quickly! i could help myself. My son was also with me, and their kids' platter is amazing, a good selection of sandwich options with fruit and cucumber slices and a cake and drink for under £6! He absolutely loved it. You will not be disappointed.

Wonderful little place. Gorgeous cakes, staff are friendly and the food was yummy. Pleasantly surprised at the number of vegetarian options. Lots of them. We both had Quiche which were light , tasty and fresh. Mum has a sulphite allergy and she had no reaction to the dressing! Service was fast as well. Will definitely be back.

This place was a real discovery today. It was busy but spacious enough not to feel crowded. We had lunch, a bowl of soup for my husband and a salad platter for me. Delicious and well presented freshly prepared food and friendly service. We'll certainly be back.

Went there with my 3 year old son. He had a roll from the bakery as this is the only thing he genuinely likes to eat. The owner of this cafe was very rude to us, he approached us and said that my son is not allowed to have his roll in the cafe. They have food there. I found this utterly rude considering that he is just a toddler and it is normal to offer small children some packed food when in restaurants or cafes. We are not coming back to this place again.

We have now been to this historic venue several times for lunch. The menu is unusual and full of very attractive main courses. The food is beautifully presented and good to eat with varied flavours. Then move on to select your puddingbfrom the display area. This is much better quality food than you would expect from a cafe.

Food that gives you goosebumps it’s that good! My partner, me and our two kids had Sunday brunch here today for the first time and it most definitely won’t be the last. I had the Mexican Beans with potatoes, fried eggs and salad, my partner had the french toast and the kids had the kids platter which included chicken sandwich, apple, grapes cake and a drink. Every one of the meals was delicious, and I tried them all haha, not a single thing I can critique. The french toast wasn’t soggy, and the chicken in the kids sandwiches was real chicken. The food wasn’t the only amazing thing though. The staff were welcoming and super friendly and the prices really reasonable. I really can’t wait to go back. My new favourite eating place in East Lothian.

My husband and I found this lovely cafe after wandering around the high street because we didn't want to eat lunch at a "chain" restaurant. We are so glad we found the Carlyle House because the food was exceptionally good. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was frankly 5 star. My only problem was what to order, because everything on the menu was so very tempting.

I first stumbled across this cafe on a cold day in December when out with my family and I am so glad we did. Firstly the staff are very welcoming and accommodating. I had my little 1yr old niece with me and my dad is disabled so we needed to rearrange the tables a bit which was no problem at all. We were so impressed with the delicious homemade sweet potato and coconut soup accompanied by the best homemade soda bread I have tasted. More so, the perfectly cooked French toast and delightful scones and coffee went down a treat too. After dining here again last weekend for lunch this is definitely my favourite place to eat when visiting Haddington. The menu has been well thought out and has plenty to offer everyone. My fellow diners thoroughly enjoyed their quiche, crispy potatoes and lovely fresh salad. I had the smoked salmon with soda bread, salad, and pickled beetroot. It was so delicious and beautifully presented. We finished off with a selection of coffees and some of the homemade treats on offer. The festive scones, empire biscuit and carrot cake were scrumptious. Very talented and inspiring chefs. The service is top notch too, really attentive staff and always with a smile. It’s such a lovely, historic building to dine in and the inside is very clean, modern and bright. My boyfriend said the toilets are very clean too. 👍 Keep up the hard work everyone it’s a pleasure to dine here. Only wished I didn’t live in Edinburgh or I would be here more often!

We had lunch here just before Easter and it really was a wonderful meal. When you look over a menu, there are usually a few items on there you could give a miss, but when I looked over The Carlyle's menu, every single course sounded so god, I realised for the first time, I could easily pick every item on the menu!

Great food, superb staff. Starters, so many to choose from. I plumped for the bees bau bun, my wife Haggis bon bons and marmalade sauce. Both were superb, the bau bun was soft, filled with superb, tender, tasty beef. The haggis with marmalade sauce was equally impressive. Mains... The wife had mussels, good sized portion and very tasty. I plumped for the burger. I love a good burger, but often the disappoint. Not here though. Really good burger, pickles, chips and a proper tasty coleslaw. No room for pudding. Beer was well kept and tasty. Thumbs up from the wife for the pornstar martinis. The staff were really friendly and made the night, as dis the epic 80s playlist. Well worth a visit.

Literally just got up and walked out after reading the menu prices. We were here last summer for lunch, had one of the best bowls of Cullen skink soup to date, came back specifically for that today as in the area, only to find that for one bowl of soup as a starter was £9.95 or for a large bowl of the same is now priced at £15.95! FOR A BOWL OF SOUP! I know it’s a tourist hotspot, but take off your Dick Turpin masks No 12!!
