Wonderful food. Great Sunday lunch. Fab staff. More of a restaurant than a pub, really. It does a good job of that. But, as a result, it’s not a cosy place for a pint. Loads of good walks to and from here from other villages. So well worth a stop, though!

The Plough in Alvescot deserves the award of pub of the century. They were so accommodating to our group (a gaggle of 12 girls!) and we had what can only be described as one of the funnest evenings. The food was excellent and brought out in a timely manner, exceeded only by the warmth of the staff. As the evening grew late we were permitted to request and play songs, the staff have the patience of Saints. Long live the plough in alvescot!!!

Our new local! Really friendly, welcoming and superb food with great portions. The wine selection is great too. If you haven’t been yet I highly recommend you do- you won’t be disappointed. AND they don’t whack a non negotiable service charge on the bill. A great find.

Was recommended to eat here by our Airbnb host - was looking forward to a Cotswolds pub with atmosphere and good food unfortunately this was not the pub for either of those things. Steak was chewy and tasteless the crab linguine was almost nice but the garlic was so strong that’s all you could taste. Was expecting the food to be great for a local pub - the staff were lovely not their fault.

We booked our campervan parking with proprietor David (free!) and an evening meal... popped in lunchtime and had a couple of drinks. Lovely pub, very friendly staff (hi Rosie!) Food looked very good (we could overhear the lunching guests!) Unfortunately this was the moment our campervan heating decided to pack up, and regretfully, we left for home (we were right too, there was frost that night). So I can't speak for the food but everyone else was very happy. David explained their focus on local produce in the kitchen. And he's a lovely friendly chap too. Thanks guys we'll recommend and definately be back!

The food was lovely and we all enjoyed it.Such a warm welcome. They even shuttled us back to the next village where we were staying. What service.!! can’t recommend too highly. Since the new owners have taken over we have been once for a big 50th birthday, and twice off the cuff for a family midweek treat. All 3 times have been lovely and we have been made to feel welcome. Couldn't believe how well they coped with 24 girlie's for the 50th birthday. Food was hot and came out altogether. Very impressive! Brought our son the other two times, played Uno, had some dinner and drinks and felt very relaxed and chilled each time. New fave place! X

2019 - Excellent tasty food, very friendly staff!! 2024 - The new owners and staff have done a fantastic job with the Plough, they have restored it to its former glory. Sunday roasts were really good, ever so tasty! Really friendly staff, just a lovely unrushed atmosphere. Another bonus is no piped music so you can chat in peace. Tables are nicely spaced too so plenty of room

Warm welcome very friendly, service was excellent. Food was okay, nothing to rave about. One portion of veg to share between 4 people. Unfortunately it all went wrong when my son asked for bacon jam to be removed from his burger, which had been done for another meal on our table (came out as requested) and my sons came back with everything removed and was served as a child’s portion as apparently, for some unknown reason was what it was put through as! (he is not a child and we did not ask for a child’s portion) When his burger was taken back we asked for onions and lettuce which was expected the first time around, with the standard burger we had ordered, we were told the chef can’t do that and it came back exactly the same! When speaking to the owner he was incredibly patronising towards my son who is autistic so found this hard to deal with and became emotional! Although it was clear my son was stressed, the owner continued to disrespect him and mocked him when ordering dessert saying “I’ll make sure it’s not a child’s portion” to which my son felt he wasn’t being taken seriously. My son was visibly upset by this encounter, and we felt it was very poorly handled and unprofessional by the owner! We had to go up to ask for spoons as were given knives and forks for dessert 🤔 other than that all okay 😂

Danny and Gemma were absolutely brilliant when we turned up late for our table because one of us had fallen over en route. She was given a glass of water, a table to sit at, loads of ice to wrap around the injury and then Danny drove us back to our Airbnb. What a delightful and unexpected gesture. They were so kind and helpful even though we couldn’t eat that busy Friday night. When we returned the next evening for our meal they welcomed us with open arms and squeezed us in. What perfect hosts 😊

It was empty and so cold you couldn't enjoy the meal. There were a number of aged persons, however, the food got cold very quickly. Been there 3 Christmas years in a row. Sadly we will not return. No lemonade , no coke, and only one carrot and two halves of a roast potato. Times are hard, but the amount of money you charge , well try portion size and being able to take coats off to eat. It was freezing . Atmosphere nil temperature artic. The crumble was served upside down with soggy pastry tasted like wallpaper glue. Not sure why empty? every other year been packed out. We were the only table there. Need to put heating on guys. Staying that cold was horrendous. Sorry, you've lost our vote this year.

We stopped here for a drink and viewed the menu. We thought the menu was well priced and offered a good choice. We both chose the flat iron steak with chips, grilled tomato, and salad. It arrived quickly and well presented. It also arrived with peppercorn sauce foc. It was well cooked and very tasty. We sat outside in the sun, and there was a nice choice of outside seating, some with parasols. There is a good choice of beers and plenty of free parking. There's also an area at the top of the garden laid out with more outside seating and children's climbing frame, which is all fenced off and safe. We will return and would recommend it.

The first time we came, our friends forgot to mention I was gluten and dairy free. The staff and chef scrabbled around and still managed to deliver a cracking roast. So much so, that we returned two weeks later and, as I had put my dietary requirements on the booking, they had everything set up for me and every time they brought something to the table, they made it very clear what I could have. Eating out with this level of restriction can be tough, so I’m incredibly grateful for their effort and caution!

We haven't been to the Plough Inn for a long while, in fact pre-covid. Whilst we always enjoyed a drink or two in their rear garden, we decided it was time to try out their menu. The menu choice was substantial and of reasonable cost (this can be seen online on thier web site), they even have menus in a style of little blackboards where you can have panini with various fillings to choose. They have a traditional main course as well as Burger menu, which we both had burgers and very nice it was indeed. The service was good, and the pub itself whilst old fashion, was reasonable clean and tidy. Plenty of spaces for car parking at rear of the pub. Photo is burger, with fries, salad and coleslaw. The particular chosen was blue cheese with onions. So we will go there again.....
