Last minute dinner out. Found the Plough, staff were very helpful, polite and kind. The dining area was immaculatly clean. Food came quickly and we were shocked with the quality of the food for such a reasonable price. We had the fish and chips. The fish overtook the plate and the batter was crisped to perfection.

We stayed in the Plough last weekend and It was such a beautiful place. The room was more like a suite, super clean and everything you could want. The staff were really friendly and couldn’t do enough to help. Breakfast included in the price (which I was shocked by as it was already really cheap!) and it was so tasty! All the food we had on our stay was stunning. Literally could not fault the place. Will definitely be staying again 😋

We decided last minute to pop along for a meal only to discover it was Steak night! The steak was quite possibly one of the best steaks I've had, the chips were immense and the peppercorn sauce was perfect. And 2 steak dinners with wine for £40! Will definitely be finding a childminder to go along again.

Unfortunately, a shadow of it's former self. Food was just about ok, but service was extremely slow and the prices are very high for what you get. They also now automatically add a tip to the bill, which is a terrible practice.

This used to be a lovely restaurant, which we enjoyed going to for family meals. Sadly our recent experience was very poor. I had the venison sausage roll for starters and the burger for main. The sausage roll honestly looked like a shop bought roll, very bland in taste. The burger, was again very bland, no relish or sauce and completely unjustified at nearly £24 (incl cheese and bacon). Service was also poor. The venue its self is lovely and it was a shame to see the food and service had gone so far down hill. There where several of us, and one of us point blank refused to eat after trying it. Hopefully the feedback will be taken and they will be back in form at somepoint soon.

Echo the previous review. To summarise = Sunday lunch is way too expensive. Visited here last minute after the decent reviews. Our original restaurant booking was cancelled as they lost power after recent storms. We should have been wary that there were so many available tables at such short notice. It worked out about £57 per head for a Sunday lunch, dessert & a drink or two. The food was ok; could do with more roast potatoes, fresher yorkshire puddings & added sides like cauliflower cheese without having to pay so all in all, terrible value for money. I want restaurants to succeed but you’ve got to get people through the door and while I flag how this cost will prohibit so many people visiting, I do so in worry for the business sustainability itself.

Went for a last minute Sunday roast. Warm welcoming venue. Menu limited if you don’t want a roast. Staff were polite and friendly. Food was nice and well cooked but portions small, for what you pay not a wide selection of veg (2 roast potatoes, a bit of carrot and swede mash and a couple of bits of carrot and broccoli for £19.50)with the roast, no crackling with my pork. £22.50 for a basic chicken and leek pie! Very overpriced and with that in mind it is cheeky adding a service charge when the service was satisfactory level (no salt and pepper supplied, no sauce offered, slow to clear dessert plate and settle the bill) and they overcharged for our dessert, they charged me 3.50 per scoop of ice cream when the menus said 2.50. I had no hesitation in saying to remove the service charge if they are cheeky enough to add it. A tip should be at the diners discretion for excellent service, not demanded especially when the meal is already very expensive and not great value. Due to these reasons we would be unlikely to return here.

If you love sitting in a restaurant listening to children's whose parents don't interact with them so they shout and scream and disturb the other diners then this is the place for you. I did consider asking if we could move to the pub but there was a dog who kept going for people as they walked passed. Staff should train staff to have a quiet word when this happens. Menu boring and good average. The table service was good

What a gem of an inn to stay at whilst travelling back from Scotland. A traditional inn with a modern twist that truly earned a positive review. Every member of staff we met were polite, attentive and most accommodating to my family and our stay. The food, I would highly recommend the Lamb henry from the specials as well as the black cherry cheesecake. Easily my favourite meal in the last year. The chef and his team should be proud. It was clean, warm and beautifully decorated. We shall book again when we travel back to Scotland in the future.

We have just enjoyed a beautiful Sunday dinner here with friends. Booked ahead of time and a table for four, nicely sat within one of their booth areas in the restaurant which offers a spacious table with a touch of privacy. All the staff we encountered were lovely and friendly and efficient at their jobs, checking back that the food was ok, topping up on drinks etc. The food was all delicious, for starters there was some Fishcakes which were gorgeous along with some pigs in blankets to the side. For mains, three roast beef dinners and a turkey, all of which were very generously portioned and came with all the trimmings and a rich gravy. A side of cauliflower cheese went down perfectly. Puddings included two sticky toffee puddings and two pavlovas, all of which were delightful. The restaurant is really nicely done out and also had a nice wood fire. Will most definitely return and would recommend. The only thing I could recommend they could improve on would be the parking arrangements, which when busy can be tight and people parking on the road isn’t ideal.

Absolutely phenomenal. Me and my family got together for an early christmas here and we all pre-ordered off a pre-set menu with lots of choice. There were 14 adults and 3 young children and every single dish we had was absolutely delicious. Not a single fault throughout the whole service. It was all piping hot, perfectly portioned, deliciously seasoned and presented beautifully to us. The staff couldn't do enough to make sure we were all happy and confortable, and regularly came to the table to check if anyone needed more drinks, sauces etc. There were even jigsaws available to keep the toddlers entertained so their parents could eat their food while it was hot. 10/10 would definitely recommend to a friend. Well done The Plough Inn!!

Enjoyed the atmosphere but let down by the food. Prices on website were cheaper than the in house menu. £22 on the website for a pie is already steep but seeing the same pie for £25 in the restaurant is cheeky. A few pieces of broccoli and a small amount of mash with the pie is disappointing. Prices up quality down is never good.

Overall we had a good experience but neither service nor food was of consistent quality. One member of staff was unfriendly to the point of being confrontational, another seemed annoyed at being asked to take a drinks order at the table and became flustered and unhelpful when it came to paying the bill. Other staff however were great. Roast dinners were good quality and size, though we had to send one back because the meat was awful and they did change this without any issue. Desserts were lovely. A couple of mains were luke warm but still nice. Service was quite slow but that did make for a relaxed dining pace. Trout starter was brilliant. We would give it another go.

I came here for a Sunday lunch with family. The food was lovely as is the place. Just a couple of tips; - one of our party is vegetarian. It would be nice to have a vegetarian option instead of being pushed into the vegan option. As a vegetarian it’s nice to have Yorkshire pudding, veg cooked in butter etc. - all needed more gravy - the service charge is too high and off putting. I know people can ask to take it off but it’s awkward to do that. Otherwise all wonderful. Very tasty food.

A lovely pub with charming rooms, friendly staff and tasty food and in a very welcoming environment. A family of four for one night , we stayed in the suite on the top floor which had a spacious double room with a very comfortable bed and a second room with twin beds. The bathroom is off the main bedroom so the kids had to walk through our room to access the bathroom but it wasn’t an issue for us. The staff were very attentive, and there was a good selection of food and drinks. The breakfast was also lovely and hearty setting us up for a great day of walking. Every time the person upstairs walked across their room it felt like they were in beside us! Also we had to listen to pounding beat of music from bar below till it want off! Disaster. Had to chase drinks, starters came and they were poor, then the fun began…….took an age for the starters to be taken away and in the meantime tables who had came in behind us had finished their mains. Someone finally came over and said the person who had cleared away the starters had not told the kitchen to ‘away’ the mains. When they did finally arrive, two out of the three meals were stone cold. So one of the party gobbled down their food and two of us had crisps at home. Great way to waste nearly two hours of your day.

Nice and cosy pub/inn with great food and service. We eat a delicious classic pie, presented with a modern twist, but there is more to the menu than just classic English dishes. Called In for dinner on way home from Lake district. Was shown a table in the bar area. Friendly staff, lovely food. Our experience was spoilt when a family arrived with two very large dogs , and sat in the same dining area a couple of tables away from us. No control over the dogs, a bowl of water was spilt over the floor and the owner threw a handful of dog biscuits under the table for the dogs to eat. The dogs were not kept under control and were slobbering about all over. One young waitress stopped to stroke and fuss over the dogs ( I only hope she washed her hands before serving food!) I suggested a separate area for dogs, and we were told we could have sat in a separate area although we were not shown this area when we arrived. We left without ordering desserts or coffee as it was quite an unpleasant dining experience.

I had the cheese starter which wasn’t what I was expecting however tasted absolutely delicious, Followed by the bangers and mash and carrot cake. The sausages in the bangers and mash were of a very high quality and the gravy and mash was to die for! Staff were fun but also wanted to make sure we had a great meal which we did. My girlfriend had fish and chips which she said was one of the best she has ever tasted too. If you are driving on the M6 or on your way to Leeds or Ilkley, This is a great pub to stop off at. Two of us chose the evening's special of fish and chips but there was more batter than fish and all the other meals failed to please for various reasons. The wine list was fairly basic, mainly new world and over-priced so we didn't have any. Service was slow yet it wasn't that busy. Visited the Plough 3/3/2024 for Sunday lunch. The Plough always has the appearance welcoming and homely when entering. Sadly on this day , the pleasantries ended there. The beef we ordered was difficult to cut because it was rubbery and had a 2 to 3 cms strip of white fat around the outer edge. We did complain to the waiter, he did apologise and promised to pass on my views on to the kitchen. I think this complaint must have then unnerved the waiter because he then accidentally knocked a nearly full 250 ml glass of red wine over my wife. He did apologise and attempted to minimise the potential damage by washing my wife’s fleece . To conclude they did offer to pay for all cleaning replacement costs and waived our bill. Yes this was a unfortunate accident, but I still think it was clumsy and shouldn’t have happened, so will not be returning there anytime soon

Food was fantastic and staff were very friendly and helpful at the start of the meal. However, after our mains were finished, we had a long wait before being asked if we wanted deserts and then were never given menus as it seems something had happened in another part of the venue. Paid at the bar for the mains and left. Was very good food and great feel but would of been nice with quicker service

Dog friendly - Great sauce on tap!! Me & boys ate here at the weekend when we fancied a quick burger and a pint. Really friendly staff, fast service and a comfortable setting. Priced as you imagine for a Lake District country pub. Well worth the visit when passing through.

Me my partner and our daughter was looking forward to coming here all day today. This has always been mine and my partners favourite place to eat for the past 10 years. We live near liverpool, so it is a drive out to the plough. We had been out on a day trip to the lake district, so we decided to call to book a table at the plough (as in the past its always been really busy) I phoned and spoke to a young lady asking if we could book for 5 she never even asked for my name which I asked her if she wanted it ? She then said see you at 5:30 which I stated twice it was 5. We walked in and was stood there for 5 mins with people walking past several times looking but not actually acknowledging us. so I called at the bar and the gentleman said someone would be with us shortly! Still another 5 mins then to find no booking was actually made, then no childrens menus printed off and then given a menu with 2 for £25 or 3 for £30 even though there is other/better menu options on their website! Waited for over 10 mins for anyone to even take our drinks order and then I decided to shout over that we've just going to have drinks and go as we was so disappointed with the hospitality/service and as my 6 year old said: "mummy are we not eating because its a disaster" Looking at the food that was coming out whist waiting to be served didn't warrant the price tag, so glad we took the choice to leave! It's absolutely gutting that this was always a place that we'd always look forward to coming as a treat but it will definitely be a place that we'll never be back to in the future !

A resounding success from start to finish. Came here to celebrate an important anniversary with my partner, our friend and our long haired Dachshund and cannot fault the attention to detail or the service. And the food was of a very high calibre. Lots of room and despite being busy for a Sunday the tables were thoughtfully spaced apart to allow for a lovely and lively ambience. Truly exceptional and excellent.

We stopped over here on the way to visit family in Scotland. We will definitely return. Super friendly welcome from the staff even though we we late after being stuck in traffic. Next the food. Wow and wow. Serious quality grub at a very reasonable price. I had a three bird roast that was worth twice the price. Well done guys

Chosen for a good looking Sunday lunch from photos online,The Plough proved to be a great choice! All service was great: Alex and Linda were particularly efficient and friendly in looking after us. The food was amazing-wonderful quality of meat and veg on our beef and chicken plates and the panacotta and salted caramel tart puddings were beautiful in presentation and taste. If we stay in this area again we’ll be back!

The food is okay but poor if you consider the price. The staff are nice but have no idea what they are doing. The atmosphere is terrible. Eat somewhere else.

First few times I've tried here it's been nice but the last few times I've had carbonara pasta it has been so bland, the man behind the counter had dirty hands as well not good for health & hygiene 🤢🤢 It just put me right off

As a videographer, I had the pleasure of working at Lancrigg Wedding Venue in the stunning Lake District, and it was an experience I won't soon forget. Nestled in a picturesque setting, the venue offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and lush greenery, which provides a perfect backdrop for capturing those special moments. The natural light that floods the space during the day enhances the beauty of the venue and allows for some truly stunning footage. The venue itself is charming and beautifully maintained, with a mix of rustic and elegant elements that cater to a variety of wedding styles. The indoor spaces are versatile, allowing for intimate ceremonies or larger celebrations, all while maintaining a cozy atmosphere. The outdoor areas are equally impressive, offering numerous spots for romantic shots and group photos. The well-kept gardens and scenic paths provide endless opportunities for creative videography. The staff at Lancrigg are incredibly accommodating and professional, making it easy for me to do my job. They understand the needs of vendors and are always willing to help facilitate smooth transitions during the day. This seamless collaboration ensures that the couple can focus on enjoying their special day while I capture the memories that will last a lifetime. Overall, Lancrigg is a fantastic wedding venue for videographers and couples alike, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to create beautiful wedding memories in a breathtaking location.
