Good food and service! Pre-ordered food as we had 8 people which was great! Would go again!!

Pre ordered food to arrive at 7.30pm. Had to wait nearly an hour for food to arrive. Nothing was said about if you wish to order dessert please do so now so that when we had finished our main course we were told kitchen was closed for desserts. Very young staff who were not very attentive. Had to get our own cutlery. Cocktails were not good. If we were not honest could have got away with not paying for our meals as young staff were under the impression we had already paid. Need the learn from The Stork about what proper service is. Will not be going again during our stay here this week.

Not a pub more like a youth club! Food was edible but the service was awful was like the pub was run by kids. We waited for 55 minutes for food even though they asked us to email ahead and would be served on arrival due to the kitchen closing at a certain time We had to clear the plates off the table ourselves onto another table as they didn’t come to clear them we had to get all our own cutlery just no service!! Also would suggest if you don’t know how to make a cocktail don’t have it on the menu! Would defo not return here at all, worst place we have visited on our holiday so far and if I could have given no stars I would have

I recently came up to Lancaster to meet my daughter who is currently studying at Lancaster University and she had previously visited her mid week with her mum and enjoyed her meal. Unfortunately we came up on a Sunday and we were disappointed despite booking in advance. The waiting time for food was well over 40 minutes which was very disappointing. We only ordered 4 main courses and my partner was very disappointed with her Sunday roast with over cooked parsnips and an over cooked Yorkshire pudding. Despite ordering extras of pigs in blankets an cauliflower cheese they never arrived and we had to request them several times. I ordered the pie with gravy and the gravy was stone cold. I only realised after I had poured it over my pie. Also when ordering desserts, another 30 minute wait and it was only when my partner asked where our desserts where we were informed the order had never been sent! At least they kindly gave us our desserts free of charge and the desserts when they did come were fine. Sorry it may have been an off day for the pub but even our 7 year old granddaughter kept asking why it was taking so long for food.

Very good value food that tasted great too. Very friendly and helpful staff. Only thing that let it down was poor choice of ales, but we had great wine and cider. And with the added bonus of being dog friendly too!

These ppl had a coach load of 50 ppl in for food and when we called in .. they still made room for us

A great little pub stop on our way to Preston for the game. Excellent food that was enjoyed by everyone. Also a great selection of drinks and spirits on offer.

Hands down the worst food I’ve ever eaten at any food outlet, ordered 2 bacon and cheese burgers , they came out swimming in grease , I had to mop the grease with a napkin I spoke to a staff member who said there’s nothing they could do about the grease but would swap the buns , food came back out cold non toasted buns and just looked awful we didn’t eat the burgers and decided we wanted to leave , told the staff about our experience , they couldn’t care less and were very rude didn’t offer a refund, was told that they hadn’t had any other complaints that day… accept while we were there 4 tables were round us 3 had complaints and the 4th had only just got the food when we left, we rang back after we left to speak to the owner/or manager Steven , and got told that we were lying and that the reason the burgers were greasy was because we ordered them without salad so it was our fault 😂 . And the refund policy is if you eat 50% of the meal you can’t have your money back 😂 even though we barely touched the burgers , the staff and manager are in complete denial and blame the customers for there own failings as a business, I’m sure when the new owners come in they will be much better , I say this because there’s no way they can sustain the plough with the food quality and staff they’ve got now … galgate deserves better

Impromptu visit for Sunday late lunch. Missed the rush, which was nice. Friendly welcome from the (very!) young staff members. Huge plateful of beef for our Sunday lunch (we requested no Yorkshire pudding) and very delicious, though very filling, so couldn't eat it all. Footie match was playing pretty loudly on two TVs in the bar area next to the restaurant part but we were just far enough away for it not to be a problem as the pub was quiet so not much cheering going on. I can't see how to add pics so I'll have to add separately - shame as it was a huge plateful!

Amazing little pub. Just off the motorway. Lovely food and amazing staff

Very disappointed! Waited 50 minutes then came out swimming in gravy when we asked for a separate gravy boat. Then the Sunday roast was a mixture between red hot and stone cold. Could only eat 75% of the beef (grey and chewie) and the mashed potato. Rest not edible. After complaining just said 'sorry about that!' in a dismissive tone. We then walked out. Atmosphere was awkward as the large table behind us didn't get one of their meals. Will not be going back.

Nice enough pub. Food was average nothing special.

We were made to feel really welcome even though we'd not been in years and are not local to the area. The menu was extensive with vegan and dairy free options. Great attention to detail regarding allergens with an extensive list on the website. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. We ended up staying for 3 hours we felt so comfortable and welcome. I had dairy and egg free steak pie and it was amazing.

An excellent buffet,self service as most buffet. Quality ingredients used to provide good food.

Visited for lunch, and had a really delicious meal. We had the hunters chicken, and a southern fried chicken burger which was huge and really tasty. Biscoff sundae also enjoyed, and I was very pleased that they deserved decaf tea. We chose here partly because I'd seen a great value lunch menu on the website. Sadly there was no specific lunch menu available and I found the staff a little defensive when I queried this (not their fault, website operated centrally). Thanks for a lovely lunch. Highly recommend.

A great place for a good meal ,warm and very inviting.

Decent pub, quick and friendly service. A full Sunday roast. Beef was fine, mash was a little lumpy but tasty, roast veg was a little overdone. But on the whole, a good experience.

Went for tea, nice to see a smaller menu, food came out super quick and was tasty.

I have been to the plough many times and it's a really nice place, friendly staff good food reasonably priced, nice 🍺 inside and outside dining marvellous in the summer ☀️ kids and dogs plus parking, what more do you want.

Here used to be our favorite restaurant, things changed after this Thursday dinner. The food was not lots choices since the menu changed but it still ok. Loaded fries and Pork sausage tastes good. There was a cockroach came to my daughter's jacket on sofa and I was very shocked. I was trying get help from the waiter the bar was busy so my husband took it away and solved it. I was very uncomfortable after saw it and took my daughter left. Then my husband told manager there was a cockroach, the sanitary conditions are worried makes me very upset and we decided to leave. The manager seems can't believe what my husband said and just said "ok" then finished this conversation. We feel very frustrated about his attitude and what we experienced. I think it's time to say bye to this restaurant. 2 stars for the memories of this place. Just to clarify to your reply, the third picture is the meal we ordered on last week, and the rest two picture form 2022 and 2023 are from previous visits, which to prove I used to eating here. No sure how Google review manage the order of the images anyway that's not the point of this review.

First time dining at The Plough at Galgate, despite passing it many times over the years. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The food arrived very quickly and was delicious. We shared some starters, Cheesy Garlic bread and Mozzarella sticks. For the main, I had the Southern fried chicken loaded chips, and my Mum and Dad had the Crispy chilli chicken loaded chips. The bill came to just over £43, which is about average for such a place.we would come back.

Called this evening about 6 to ask what time food was being served. I was told 7.45. Arrived at 7.30 to see sign on door saying food was until 8pm. Went in and asked about food and was told it was too late at 7.30. Promptly walked out and will not be returning. What kind of establishment is this where they can’t even get their act together before any food or drinks were served. A complete waste of time 😒

A warm welcome to a comfortable atmospheric pub/restaurant. The staff were superb throughout the visit being polite and attentive at all times. The food was served with little delay, was hot and very tasty. Thankyou I intend to visit again if the opportunity arises.

Very nice Sunday Lunch. Well worth a visit

If you are in the area and want 5* Sunday lunch this is the best Sunday lunch I have had in a long time. Fresh veg, Yorkshire pud meat just gorgeous and very tasty.

Updating my previous 2 star review from last year. Food has been consistently loads better and it has a good, friendly atmosphere now.

Had a meal in the Beer Garden. For me the Roast Chicken Dinner was beautiful.. been here in the past and will sure be back.

Expensive drinks, but lovely garden

Great place not far off the canal tow path also has easy parking. The food is very good and at realistic prices, the beer is also very well kept. If you’re in the area you should make the effort to call in.

Had Sunday Roast was good would definitely go again

Went for a late lunch.Very pleasant in the garden.Mud week so it was a bit quiet but probably gets busy at the weekend Real ale on which was good .

Stopped off for a drink,bar staff friendly and chatty,good choice of ales,menu looked good,nice beer garden,dog friendly,will definitely go again..

The pub was extremely clean. The website which appears up to date as theyve updated for summer holiday discounts yet they dont serve the lunch menu they advertise we came for the lunch menu. Food very bland, one of us had tomato soup really watery, one of us adult margherita pizza again bland the base tasted awful like a very cheap supermarket smart price pizza even the cheese wasnt flavourful, one child pizza again very bland and a childs burger meal little one was very happy with that think he had the best meal. Only us in when we arrived.

We had fish and chips & pork sausage and mash, great service and all of the food was tasty and hot and plentiful .Also finished our beers in the lovely Beer Garden at the rear. Well done to all .We shall return.

Fantastic food and not rushed. We had the Sunday Roast and we couldn't fault anything. We would visit again.

Lovely pub, the staff were really lovely and the service was good too. The only complaint was that my husband ordered the Steak and Ale pie, he expected a home made pie with flaky pastry, instead it was a really small shop bought pie that could have been bought for about £3, there was mash potato and peas with it, the complaint is that it was £13 which really is disgusting, suggestion would be to lower the price or invest in someone who can make the real thing. Shame really as we liked the place and the staff.

Rang on the Monday to book a table for 4 at 6pm. Got there and asked about the evening menu only to be told that it wasn’t on because of the football in 2hrs time 😮 We were then rushed into eating and they cleared the other tables around us at 6.45 so we couldn’t even see a desert menu! (others wanting food where turned away as they’d closed the kitchen ) The beer and food we had was good but we’re not all football fans and should have been informed of the changes when I booked the table 2 days beforehand

My wife & myself met a friend here for an evening meal. The choice of food & service was very good. We were shown to a table in a quiet area. However, a group of about eight to ten arrived at a table next to us. They became very loud, which spoilt the remainder of our evening

This pub is quite nice inside and has a lovely garden. However, the food is really bad. Yesterday we had loaded chips with chicken that seemed to be leftover bits of chicken wings. Last week we had nachos with a terrible salsa that probably came from ALDI. Go for a pint but avoid the food!

Great pub garden, little bit pricey but that’s what you’re paying for. Great for us students living on campus it’s only about a 20 min walk away. Had food a couple of times as well and we love it.

What an unexpected find, from outside looks like a standard boozer, Inside warm welcome, great friendly service, lunchtime! unpretentious Menu but good quality well prepared and presented meals! Best of all the quality of the Guiness, its not that often you find a well and cleanly presented pint, clearly people who care!!

Went for a meal. Had Spicy King Prawns as a starter, which was very tasty. Followed by a Cheese Burger. It was massive, very tasty. The staff were nice and friendly. Considering it was a Tuesday night, there were plenty of people in.. We had a nice time.

Came here for work... The place looks lovely, bright and clean (rose is doing a wonderful job) Photos show this fantastic building with large seating areas to the side and rear. Activities for the little ones in children's corner. The landlord Steve was very accommodating and again very welcoming, he was busy preparing large high quality beef roasting joints for today's service...(looked and smelt amazing) Great venue with extended seating available for larger parties and a huge free carpark 😎

Staff was friendly, food was good but disappointed to find out that Pepsi max is not included in the lunch menu deal. Meal plus a drink for a £1 extra (even though soft drinks are listed in the small print).

Called in for evening meal, well impressed with southern fried with gravy offerings.

Today we stopped in for a lunch for two, the young lass that served us was lovely, sat us down and took our orders. She was very polite and attentive. Bringing our drinks and food, checking all ok. Food was piping hot and delicious. Just the right portion size. Lovely food, fantastic staff. Can't wait to go again, already recommended to friends.

Menu has changed without noticing and the explanation is the waitress are new, how ridiculous, welcome everyone to come here and pay for the mistake from their staff lol. Paid 50 pounds and got rudely shouted by the large tonnage waitress or owner maybe

Since it change menu the food and service become really bad. From the dry, tasteless food to the rude and indifferent service, it is a dining experience best avoided by anyone with even a modicum of respect for their taste buds and sanity. Save yourself the trouble and dine elsewhere, lest you too become a victim of this sorry excuse for a restaurant.

Went in tonight to get a drink and use the toilet after a long drive got told to leave by a big woman and an old man presumably her husband because we tried to use the toilet first as we wasn’t customers, wont be returning terrible service got stared at as soon as we walked through the door place grubby and full of drunks

A genuine five stars for this venue. Run by Kate and her former army chef partner steve, this is a must visit gem in the sticks, a few miles out from Lancaster at Galgate. Thank you both for your hospitality and outstanding tucker!!

From the moment of entry, the welcome was warm and sincere. I am a fussy eater and the food was simply out of this world! The service was faultless including the once standard but now rare check back to make sure everything was satisfactory. Having heard they host a variety of events rest assured i will be visiting again!

Friendly staff, good service, nice nachos with tasty sauce, and decent prices. Vegetarian options are limited, but we thought the Mediterranean linguine was really tasty (if you like courgette and aubergine!) and the vegetarian sausages were acceptable (even if the mash was a puree rather than mash) Offering simple swap-outs on the menu for those avoiding meat (e.g. beanburger instead of beef patty, or halloumi/tofu instead of chicken, etc) would make all the difference.

The Food was excellent, the staff were friendly and very helpful, and the atmosphere in the bar area was also excellent.

Really nice pub right next to the football pitches at the start of Galgate. Car Park is a bit small and I can imagine parking is difficult if there is a game on.

Staff friendly. Very relaxed atmosphere. Great taste of Mixed Grill. Garlic and parsley butter made the whole plate so nice.

Worse service I have ever received at any pub waited 55minutes food to be told printer not working your order not done they apologised and offered free desserts .Which we accepted 20 minutes later it arrived scampi and chips fine mine was disgusting one dry piece of chicken tiny portion dry sauce after waiting i hour and 20 Minutes to be given this they took away my friend had to sit and eat hers alone .Mine arrived 2.40 ordered 1.20 .Offered my meal free and desserts did not make up would rather have paid and had a nice time on asking for bill 15 minutes later still not arrived. Apologise once again they had forgot The staff very nice they where all very young the waitress 15 the young girl in charge very young It was a birthday treat I was embarrassing to take my friend there completely ruined her treat what should have been a lovely afternoon turned into a afternoon at fawlty towers

Been there in the past and had both good and slightly bad experiences. This time though that we were back in town we thought to give it a try again and we were very pleased. We went 30' before the kitchen closes on Sunday but we forgot to order something and it was 5' after kitchen had closed that we remembered and we thought to give it a try. They accepted our late order as well and our meals and desert were perfect. Thank you guys and sorry for the late onion rings order!!!

Dropped in for food on way back from Lancaster. Great food, friendly atmosphere

We supplied the venue with equipment in April, May, June and a bit of July 23 total about £1400 we havent been paid in full yet, its now Nov 23. We keep being told its on this weeks payment run and well be paid tomorrow but we never get paid. We recived £500 after doing some investigation work and contacting the area manager with the promice of the rest being paid which hasnt been done. When i call to chase the outstanding debt, just short of £1000 now I get verbally assulted by Kate the manager who says she dosent need to pay and if keep calling she will call the police and report me for harassment. Do not supply this venue with anything unless you R paid up front. Kate and Steve R not to be trusted, they Lie and not very nice people if truth be told. Update : 2 days after this review was put up the money appeared. Funny that isn't it!!

Very disappointed with our experience. Before we sat down my husband used the gents and returned saying they were disgusting. If toilets are not clean then you wonder what the other areas are like ie the kitchen. I ordered a coke with no ice, this came with Ice!!! I thought easy done but now having the full experience this is simply no attention to detail. We ordered a garlic bread to share for a starter and 2 roast dinners, a vegetarian one and beef one. We were told there was no beef left so my husband ordered chicken instead. After we ordered, the staff member came back to tell us there was no roast potatoes left. I quizzed was everything else available on the roast/veg wise and would the roast potatoes be replaced with mash in which he confirmed. My husband changed his order and I stuck with the vegetarian roast with mash. The garlic bread arrived to share which was undercooked and there was no offer of a side plate to use since we were sharing. Our main meals arrived, the hunters chicken my husband enjoyed although the chips were like warm at best. The vege Sunday roast arrived with just mash, some peas, a wellington tart and small Yorkshire pudding. I questioned it when it was served and the young man informed me sorry we have no veg left either (how can you sell a Sunday roast with no veg)??? I'll be honest, I only ate a third of the meal and we left to pay. When asked if the meal was nice I responded with it was ok, in which the response was that's brill !!! On receiving the receipt I was astounded to find I paid in full for the Sunday roast despite half of it being missing and they charged me £1.50 on top for a a Yorkshire pudding (I didn't request this additionally). I went back in to to speak with the manager with my concerns who was completely uninterested. Not an apology/nothing. When I told her we would not be returning, again really wasn't interested in our poor experience. On exiting the pub we were greeted by another very dis gruntled couple who said they would not be returning either. I would NOT recommend this pub if you want nice food, value for money and a manager that has interest in providing good customer service.

Paid a visit to the pub that introduced me to real ale. I found their Boddingtons was much better tasting than the Scotch Bitter or Double Diamond at the time. Todays Timothy Taylor Landlord was really good.

Absolutely excellent food, atmosphere and service, staff go above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome. I will definitely be visiting again very soon and I highly recommend the plough.
