Came for an evening meal and it was fantastic. Service was great and the food was great quality. Would absolutely recommend the Brie Bites (was a Chef Special starter at the time), the Chicken Tikka Bacon Burger (was so so good) and the Chocolate Brownie 😋 Will most definitely return ⭐

Food was good although the cleanliness wasn't great. Food on the floor which only needed a quick sweep, tables/chairs not wiped down properly, a large amount of flies around the bar/table area. And given the nice weather has only just ended(may return for some of sept) the garden was messy, muddy, long grass, cushions on the floor, broken kids play equipment with wooden pallet underneath. The outside verander could do with an upgrade as felt tired. Lacking in some areas to make it a quality country pub.

Kids play park needs replacing but lovely pub otherwise. Great staff, lovely food and decent selection

A recent visit with friends, transpired to be a disappointing experience. The food was mediocre and the service slow. This establishment has deteriorated, and after many previous visits with satisfaction" we shall not be returning.

A lovely pub garden, dog friendly, table service, and welcoming staff! We spent a very pleasant few hours on a Sunday afternoon sitting in the sun enjoying a delicious meal and having a few drinks. 👌

Bang average food at a bang average price served in a beautiful old building. It is a brewery (Shepherd Neame) pub selling food that’s cooked from frozen… Had a prawn cocktail, fish and chips and ham, eggs and chips and nothing was remarkable but it was all edible and filled hungry stomachs. The wine recommendation was great and the staff are lovely though.

Incredible food, and had a pitcher of Pimm's which was great in the sunshine. Lamb roast, fish and chips, chicken pie and Risotto were all very tasty!

I love this place it holds a special memory for me however i was here yesterday,was a lovely warm evening so thought we would go eat outside . I ordered the caesar

The waitress who took our orders on Friday 28 June (blonde hair, very smiley), both food and drinks, or a large and complicated mix of families in the group, was absolutely amazing. She remembered every order and was able to bill separately without us even asking or even a hint of difficulty. She was also super friendly and accommodated everything we asked for - a real asset to the pub.

Food was not the best for us. Maybe head chefs day off. Sandwiches seemed very popular.

The food wasn't great, if im honest, but iv only been the once so could have been a one off but it just wasn't great not for the price nice little pub tho looks like it would be nice in the summer for the gardens etc

Grace was polite courteous efficient and helpful. The food was wonderful. I had steak, he had a curry. All food to extremely high standard as was the cleanliness. Beautiful location.

Took family here for a birthday Sunday lunch. Staff were welcoming and friendly with prompt service. Food was excellent and all diners received at the same time. Good variety of food and reasonably priced. Will definitely be returning.

Called in on a very wet Sunday, no booking. We were welcomed with a smile, found a table, and seated quickly. Roast pork and Chicken, excellent quality and nicely presented, reasonably priced. Would like to return and try desserts when more time allows.

Booked this local while away on holiday for a suprise birthday trip for my partner. Contacted the pub to book and asked if they could help with a birthday suprise. They went above and beyond and went out especially to grab a birthday balloon and was there for our arrival. Great drinks, great food, great value for money and very friendly staff! Would recommend and will visit again if I'm ever in the area 😊

Had a particularly good lunch here last week. My burger was extremely tasty and my fellow guests spoke highly of the Thai Green Curry, and the Liver and Bacon went down well. The service was friendly and efficient and we shall certainly be visiting again

Popped in for a late lunch, wasn't sure where to go or what to do.....eventually a member of staff approached and we asked to eat. Got led to side annex room, a bit echoey and sparce. Menu we had seen on website had pork belly but menu given didn't. Shame as that's what drew us to there as just fancied it. Had pie and a fish and chips. Was OK, didn't think much to greens but pie was packed full and tasty. Partners fish was good. Felt lacking atmosphere as stuck in a side room. We would visit again and perhaps ask for different area.

Have a car park around the back of the pub. It's OK but have not try the meal there yet .

Food excellent, but hygiene not good when change of sittings! Cutlery that wasn't used by previous customers, placed back on table! Floors not swept between sittings! Cold! Acoustics really bad, no outside light on steps or car park

We were table of four, it was birthday meal for me and my husband, I wish we went somewhere else. The service was non-existent, not a single friendly face, we had to ask for food order to be taken after waiting for about 20 minutes. The waitress taking order for drinks and food looked like she was doing us a favour by being there. It didn't look like they were busy, and they were not rushing off their feet either, there seem to be enough staff around. When our mains arrived, I asked for another glass of wine which never turned up by the time I finished my pie (and I am not the fast eater) so we cancelled it as we couldn't wait to leave. If we left without paying, I dont think they would have noticed we'd gone, this is how bad it was. We specifically chose The Plough after reading the reviews, but it was far from what other people experienced. It doesn't look like owner/manager reads/replies/ or even acknowledges the reviews. I wish the hard earned money we paid was spent somewhere else, you get a better service at Wimpy or even Macdonalds without paying the premium price for not being noticed. It's a shame you can't give zero stars for service. Because the service was so bad, the food although nice didn't make up for the whole experience.

Mediocre food overall. Specials were better than main menu dishes. Very greasy battered fish. The portion of tomato penne on the children's menu was by far the smallest I've ever seen at any restaurant, three small spoonfuls and it was gone. For £8.95! Wouldn't return.

Amongst the starters ordered, both prawn cocktails had frozen prawns in and hardly any seafood sauce. Both were returned and replaced. Very little meat in the lamb tagine, looked great but portions were tiny. Overall, all four main meals were below par although my fish and chips was nice apart from my pet hate, all additional pots on the plate and basket for the chips! Toilets were grim and need some TLC. Feel sorry for these establishments as they are all trying to survive with ever increasing running costs but surely the end product should still be quality.

Enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch. Very busy so recommend booking. Parking is very limited. Table service not great but lovely food.

Lovely pub! We came here with fellow photographers after a walk in the Abbots wood. The service and food were great, very cosy atmosphere. At the time of the visit wasn't too busy. We get served very quickly, and the waiter did an amazing job. Food is presented nicely, and the price is fair! Definitely recommended 👌 oh and there is parking on site with plenty of space. Thanks to the team, well done!

We had booked food here (weeks in advance) as we were on a trip to this area for our son's 5th birthday. Walked in, the woman stood behind the bar, saw us, walked off, and then proceeded to talk to a younger member of staff for a few minutes before anyone greeted us. We still got a drink despite this, sat in the garden and booked a different place (Tiger Inn, East Dean) and had a wonderful time. Customer service here was appalling and we will not spend money on rudeness. We will never return, been here twice before, both pre covid had lovely memories

Service was friendly and fast and a guy was playing live in the garden which was cool. But the Sunday roast was pretty sad. Very heavy on Yorkshire, potatoes and gravy, light on the meat and fresh veg. Cost savings I guess.

This visit started ok but sadly went downhill, leading to a disappointing experience. The waitress took our drinks order, and we received our starters/ main meals after a short wait. When the plates were cleared, the waiter asked if we would like the desert menus, which we replied yes! After waiting 30 minutes, we requested them again. Having chosen, we tried several times to place an order. Staff said I'll be with you shortly and nobody came to take the order's. Eventually, we went to the bar to settle the bill and gave up with dessert. It's such a shame that the service was a letdown because the meals weren't bad!

Requsted a Sunday lunch via email very late the night before we wanted to go and had received a confirmation by 6.30 the following morning - impressive. Loved the foxes mural on the wall of the restaurant! Good selection of food on the menu and we all enjoyed our meals but I'm afraid I must criticise the service which was very hit and miss.

Great customer service and delicious food. Our party had the pie, fish and chips and steak, all thoroughly enjoyed. We will be back.

Fabulous food, service was a tad slow, look forward to trying other meals on the menu.

Arrived for 12 lunch. Building was cold. No fires lit. No menus printed. Lunch was delicious though. I had the herb crusted lamb it was really delicious. Tiny portion of vegetables for two of us. They were nice but needed a few more. Pleased we ordered a side of cauliflower cheese to have. A jug of gravy would have been nice to have. Staff friendly, though the look of legging and trainers for waitressing staff, is a look I don't like, looks scruffy. Disappointed at the uncleaned and general maintenance of the toilet. No bin provided, sanitary products on floor, toilet seat hanging off. One toilet was out of order. The room we were in lacked any appeal, cold and the seats were uncomfortable. When we left the bar fire had been lit which made the bar look so cosy and warm. Overall wrap up warm and go for the food and not the decor.

Tasty food, rubbish service, dirty pub. Went for a family roast Sunday, the high chair was filthy, and we had to clean it ourselves. Got bought out the wrong meal, only had one portion of vegetables to share between two mains and when asked for more, they said it would be chargeable. The waiting staff were just congregating by the bar and not checking in on anyone’s meals. When we went to the bar to pay, there was 4 members of staff and none of them were interested in serving us. The only reason I’m giving two stars is because the food was really nice. There is clearly work to be done here.

Was a nice treat as it was Valentines. My husband was told it was a set menu because of valentines. But not the set price of £34.95 per head. We were a bit shocked. We had the fish soup to start which was delicious 😋 . Lamb Tagine, then lemon tart . It was all very lovely. The only thing we weren't really liking was the music. Neither of us are into contemporary jazz. It was a bit drooling. Nice when they had a break . .

Excellent food, friendly staff and good beer. Large garden area which is ideal in the summer. Whether it's a Sunday lunch or a mid-week meal, their food is always spot on.

Best Roast for miles, incredible food and lovely staff!

A little disappointing if I'm honest, the food was served on cold plates so the food was cold. I had Ham, Egg and chips and my eggs were solid! My friend had a steak which was nearly £30 and to be honest wasn't brilliant. We had heard rave reviews about this place but unfortunately did not live up to them.

Always get a great Sunday roast at the plough. Went last Sunday. Had the sirloin of beef Generous portions and extra gravy if required.

My last visit was during covid but I still give it 5 stars. This 16th-century pub is lovely. Nice atmosphere, and great food and drink. I would especially advise that you go in the summer when you can sit outside. It gets really busy but that's because it's such a good place to eat .

Great experience and loverly food ,stuff

Was there outside in the summer, it's beautiful the wooden verandah looks over the whole garden. Then was there just after Christmas with my partner, we snuggled on the sofa by the log fire, it was great. The drive for me from Peacehaven is always worth it.

Went last minute on New Years eve. Pub staff friendly but service was hit and miss. However, the food was great. Really tasty, hot and well presented. Well done chef.
