The Plough in Newark and Sherwood

Staying in the area for a week and always like to try the local village pub. This one has to be one of the best, especially for food. Had lunch on Saturday absolutely amazing pork belly tapas with fries plus mac n cheese and went back the same evening for specialty burger plus a grilled garlic chicken all things worthy of a 10 out of 10 some of the best food ever tasted. Add to that very reasonable prices lovely staff friendly locals and impeccably clean toilets. Wish this pub was in our home town

By far the best food in the area. Service is always friendly and efficient. Burgers, steak, fish and chips, gyros and bang bang chicken are highlights for us but everything else we’ve had in the last has always been excellent

Awful booked a table over a week ago and was turned away as booking was not made even though the person confirmed receipt - anyway stumbled across The Inn on the Green fantastic food and service so if your in Coddington avoid the Plough

Although the pub needs upgrading in the decor department the food was excellent. Lovely home made burgers and home made accompniments. The staff were pleasant and helpful.

It’s been a while since my last meal at The Plough, and I wasn’t disappointed! Lots of nice changes too. There were six of us dining, and we felt no pressure to sit and chat with a few drinks prior to ordering our food. All meals were on the large side, very well presented, and all really good value.Our party chose the blade of beef, the ribs, tapas, and the chicken gyros from a new menu. Clean plates and big smiles all round! Good service from the ladies working behind the bar, and a great welcome from returning manageress Charlie. You’ve bought a new lease of life back to the pub Charlie, and I love the cosy colour schemes you’ve implemented in the seating areas. A friendly, busy little pub which is great for drinks, or food.

Fabulous place!!! Lunch was excellent, very tasty and well cooked, surroundings were very festive and staff polite and helpful, reasonably priced to others we have tried...we will be back!!!!

Went for Sunday lunch - very poor from the start. Sat near the door which was cold and not nice being so close to the bar. Couldn’t swap to other seats because they were too fully booked. Food arrived quite quickly and looked good, however the quality was so poor. Chewy beef, terrible to cut. Roast potatoes impossible to cut because they were so hard. Yorkshire pudding was burnt on the top and not cooked at the bottom. Really not a good experience.

Amazing Sunday dinner! Tried a few restaurants but this is the best! Had been recommended to come here and we weren’t disappointed! Food was superb, freshly prepared. Lovely young waitress friendly and polite. Will definitely be returning.

Went on a Thursday night which has Tapas as a special, so we went for that which was 6 dishes for £25! Every dish was amazing the Pork Belly. bang Bang Chicken were to die for and the Potato number was delicious! Definitely try the pickled onion rings, OMG they were another level, It has a really nice cosy atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and welcoming! Going to try a Wednesday next when it’s Burger night!!

A very warm welcome, excellent service and food. A really nice pub to stop at on our journey from Norwich to Yorkshire.

We wandered into the pub after a family walk. We didn’t book. We asked a waiter if we could be seated he seemed very stressed and told us he would be with us in a moment. We asked a waitress if there was any space as he didn’t return and she seated us no problem. From there the waitress delt with us. We then presumed the waiter was actually the manager but he didn’t know what he was doing and he was talking very aggressively to the Girls behind the bar on why she had sat us. Very rude as customers could see him!!!! But there wasn’t another booking for 1 hour and 30 mins. Food was very good. Whole family enjoyed. The manager gave us our bill and accidentally charged us extra. Overall it’s a nice little country pub with stunning food and staff, unfortunately let down by poor management. He maybe needs taking in hand abit and given some more training?

Our party of 20 descended upon this pub this lunchtime. they managed to serve us all with lovely food within 40 minutes, everything came out piping hot. Very good

Awful visit to the plough. Manager is so very rude he was visibly swearing behind the bar to the ladies who work there ( who were the only good thing about the experience they were so polite) the ladies were visibly over worked. He kept going outside for cigarettes and not washing hands whilst serving food and helping him self to free drinks on shift! Need a new manger fast he was so rude to us and I heard the table next to us complained and the food and he did nothing to help them. He even ‘accidentally’ charged us extra. Took 1 hour for food to come out.

Management was shocking. Kept helping himself drinks and he smelt of alcohol and cigarettes whilst severing food. And didn’t wash his hands after touching the bin or going out for a cigarette. Not the best for a ‘family’ pub especially with the manger ‘bantering’ with some men at the bar being very loud and swearing. Chef was shouting from kitchen and could hear from inside the pub made a very uncomfortable environment to be in. Manager wasn’t helpful to any customers. Dont think he’s fit for the job at all, I recall the last manager and she was very good and polite with customers. Nothing like this one. Disappointing visit to say the least and the food was a 3/10. Mislead on the menu.

Nice cosy pub. Friendly service by lovely ladies. Compact tables. Starters well sized and super fresh. Mains right sized portions beautifully presented. A lovely location for friends, family, couple and people eating alone. I think they have accommodation. Parking free right next door. Will be back

An excellent Pork roast and I highly recommend. As well as good food the service was friendly and efficient and the pub has been well refurbished. Would recommend booking as we seemed lucky to get a seat for food. I will be going again.

Was recommended this place as a halfway meeting place for family travelling from the other end of the country. Was told the food was great. Unfortunately I can't comment on that as we didn't get to try any. Have never been to a pub before where you need to book ahead for sandwiches! Tea was cold and I waited half an hour for it. Need to find a new meeting place. Hint to owners - if you want to sell food and drink in profitable quantities you need STAFF.

Our first time enjoying 'The Plough Experience' After reading reviews we decided to book for Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. The roast beef was tender and the accompanying vegetables, yorkshire pudding and gravy were perfectly cooked and served by pleasant and helpful staff. There is a selection of well kept beer and wines. All in all a very pleasurable experience. Absolutely love this pub. It has undergone a recent transformation, which can only be described as unbelievable. A building brought back to life through a genuine passion and commitment that has provided the local, and wider community with a boozer that would make many a town or city envious. Great friendly service, good food, and a diverse clientele depending on when you visit. No longer just a village pub where only locals feel comfortable- thank goodness. No longer an eyesore! Well done all who have taken part in this pub’s alterations.

Dropped in today for Sunday lunch on the way back from our weekend away and we were not disappointed with the food and service at The Plough. I can especially recommend the Roast Beef with all the trimmings including a very creamy and cheesy Cauliflower cheese. Standard of the beef was exceptional, with a variety of well cooked accompanying veg . We will drop in again next time we are in the Newark area, that's for sure. A real gem of a find.

Stopped off here for lunch and to break up a 250 mile journey. We were travelling with our dog and the pub is dog friendly inside which was very handy as it was raining and we didn't fancy sitting outside while we had lunch. Water and dog treats are available inside.

Great selection of drinks inc Adnams lager and Aspalls cider. Limited Sunday lunch only menu. We had one roast beef, 2 pork and a nut roast Sunday lunch. All delicious. Not a scrap of food left on the plate. No room for pud which was a shame. £59 for 4 including 2 rounds of drinks, half of which were non alcoholic. There is a small amount of outside seating. Came in to the Plough for a few beers, during the 6-Nations. A classic British village pub, compact and bijou. Warm and friendly greeting, excellent ales and a good offering in the wines and spirit area. Busy but still welcoming. Good, if small menu, but they are about the village and not the kitchen. This place will grow as the clientele does! Local pub for local people - bit worth a visit!

I live at the bottom of the hill going into Newark, and was looking for a nice boozer. So a wander up the hill to the plough. A really excellent Sunday lunch at this recently refurbished village pub. Good range of beer, gins and wine, nicely served. Staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. A sensibly limited traditional Sunday lunch menu. All of the roast lunch was well cooked with a good selection of vegetables. Excellent puddings of a very generous size. Good overall experience and we will definitely return.
