We dropped in on a quiet Monday and asked to be fed. What a treat! We were offered a tasty choice, all specially prepared and cooked to order. Together with fine ales on draft, our delicious meal was served with love and was great value. Much appreciated.

Bright and modern decor and immediately made to feel welcome gave me confidence. I asked if the fish stew was 'on' and was pleased to hear it was. Menu stated that all dishes are cooked from scratch with fresh produce and there's quite a big menu at very reasonable prices, so I was a little skeptical. I've eaten bouillabaisse many times in France and enjoyed fish stews throughout Europe, and I can state without hesitation that this was the tastiest (spicy with white wine and tomatoes) I've ever had. I'll certainly be back next time for the Shetland mussels.

We stayed here for the night and received a lovely welcome. Breakfast was delicious, and Heather was a star. Staffing problems meant she was left on her own which could have been chaos but by keeping us informed and her friendly efficient service made all the difference. Would perhaps not have given such a good rating had all the stops not been put out in which was obviously a difficult situation.

Visited here last night for a meal with some family. The decor was lovely and relaxing and the staff were very attentive and friendly. A box of toys kept our 4 year old daughter entertained too!! Well what can we say about the food????? A-maz-ing!! Our starters ranged from garlic mushrooms, mozzarella kickers, cajun skewers and spicy chicken wings. Everyone was impressed by both the taste and portion size. Really gorgeous tasting food. On to the main courses........ a definate recomendation for the 'Louisiana lunchbox' what a portion!! It was massive! Everyone elses meals ranged from kids scampi & chips, macaroni cheese, fish and chips, surf and turf and a gorgeous burger with bbq pork on top. These were all very tasty meals and the portion sizes were great. You definatley do not leave here hungry!! A tiny bit of space was left for the tasty puddings.....scrummy sticky toffee pudding here too. Just a nice portion, not too much.....just enough to fill your sweet tooth craving!! Will definatley be back and would recommend to anyone to give this 'wee gem' a try!!

We decided to try the Pleuchie Howff for an evening meal when looking for somewhere to eat when out all day at the local gala. Long day and couldn't be bothered to cook kinda thing. The decor inside is very nice and the staff extremely pleasant. There is a very good choice on the menu and it did take a little time for us to decide what to go for. I opted for the spare ribs to start, my wife ordered the garlic mushrooms in a crispy batter and my daughters ordered the Nachos between them. The size of my starter was equivalent to what I would expect for a main course. It was huge and my wife's and daughters portions were also very large. The service was quick, although it wasn't terrifically busy, but we were eating quite early. The main courses again were a decent size and loved the home cooked beef chips. Very chunky but so soft inside. My steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare) but it did have a little too much fat, but it didn't spoil my meal and it was tasty. My wife and youngest daughter had fish and chips and it was a good size fish. Eldest daughter had chicken stuffed with haggis and again was a really good portion. We couldn't finish the main course. The prices are reasonable and all in all very good value for money. I would not hesitate to return or recommend to anyone.

The food in this restaurant is all freshly made, I had the meatballs which were good and not too spicy as requested. The young guy who was serving was friendly and chatty but unfortunately he couldn't get place heated up so it was quite cold on a wet evening.

My first visit to The Pleuchie's Howff and won't be the last. Food was excellent. Not just the same old processed food sometimes churned out by other pubs/restaurants. Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Reasonably priced.

We enjoyed a nice dinner here recently, the garlic mushrooms to start with were yummy. The fish stew should have been renamed seafood stew as it was chockablock block with prawns, mussels and squid but little fish, so if you like your seafood you will enjoy this. Really friendly service too, will come back again.

This is quite a nice place to drop in and have a pint and watch a local live band. The staff are friendly and courteous, and it's a nice wee place. Unfortunately, it's let down by its food.Very expensive and overpriced. You expect a bit better for pub grub, but it's very expensive for tiny portions straight from a microwave. The soup was tinned cream of chicken, but advertised as 'home made' and was served tepid. The main meals of traditional fish and chips was half cold, a tiny fillet of frozen, breaded hake straight from the microwave and served with a half dozen cold peas. Not good value for £44 along with two cokes.Go to the bar, it's great especially on a live music night, but hold on the dining experience. It's ultimately an expensive letdown, which is such a shame.

Nice bar for a drink, with some nice locals. Really can't fault the bar whatsoever. However the food is just not up to standard. The portions were pretty large, but very overpriced for what is essentially frozen food, cooked and heated up. My starter of 'home made' soup, was unfortunately straight from a can, and was frozen, when I received it. Not lukewarm, not a bit warm, but actually freezing cold. Total bill for 4 starters & 4 main courses, no puddings was £120. Not what I expected at all. Go somewhere else in town, as the Pleuchie's Howff is just not worth it unfortunately. A shame as it has a nice clientele and the staff are friendly enough.

I have had very enjoyable dining experiences at the pleuchie's on many occasions both in the dining area and the bar on numerous occasions and can honestly say I cannot pick a single fault. The staff are fantastic, very helpful and attentive. The menu has such a wide range there is something for everyone (and I am a very fussy eater), the accommodated my young child very well, they even provided her with toys to play with whilst my partner and I enjoyed our meal! The food is so fresh and flavoursome. The coleslaw is homemade and it is THE best coleslaw I have ever ever had! I would highly recommend a meal at the pleuchie's, day or night.

We called on Thursday to reserve a table for Friday, and unfortunately the dining room was reserved for a private function. We were told, however that we could come and sit in the bar. We had looked at the menu online and were interested in their selection, so we said we would come in. When we arrived, we were surprised that they had reserved a small table in the back of the bar for the two of us. When we ordered the waitress told us that there would be a short wait for the food because it was all prepared fresh. (No problem there!) When the food came out it was beautifully prepared, flavorful, and satisfying. The service was perfect; the staff were attentive until we had our main courses, and then they left us in peace to enjoy our meal. Dessert was lovely, and they were very helpful in accommodating my partner's gluten allergy.Prices were very reasonable. We paid about £40 for a shared starter, two main courses, two desserts, and four drinks. Highly recommended!Plus I whupped my partner at billiards.

My wife and I visited the Pleuchie's Howff with a couple of friends. The restaurant was very quiet which was a shame because the food was excellent. We didn't have starters but the mains, two rounds of drinks, coffees and 2 cheeseboards came to £65. At less than £17 a head and considering the quality of the food, which is all prepared from scratch, it represents excellent value for money.

Well We have been here 3 or 4 times now this year and it has always been good. Have visited some of the top restaurants in London and well, no, it is not as good. But considering the competition in Dumfries I am surprised it is not busier. The menu is simple but the chef usually has a wee twist in the preperation of the food and so far every time it has impressed. Service could do with a wee bit of attention. But I reckon most people don't go as they are put off by the name or it's look from outside. DON'T BE!! The restaurant is very pleasant, every time we have been the staff have been very accomodating and helpful to our kids and for the price it is well worth the money.

We ate at The Pleuchie's Howff because the Italian place across the street was booked up. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was very good and the staff was attentive and made our children feel welcome. Because of a mix up with our order it took a little while for the food to come out. Our waitress was very apologetic and even comped our second round of drinks. A very professional way to handle the situation. If I return to Dumfries, I will eat there again.

We went to the restaurant for lunch on Mother's Day and had a most relaxing time which can often be difficult with two children under 4. The food was lovely and the staff were very friendly and most patient! The reason I say this is that a member of our party is allergic to egg and we had to make sure that he didn't order something which had been cooked with egg in it. In some restuarants we have experienced staff who can be quite impatient with such a request but here they were so helpful. The waitress was also very helpful with regard to the limited types of draught beer available. Food such as burgers, relish and coleslaw are homemade. They have food theme nights as well.We will certainly return and definitely recommend a visit.

This restaurant is part of Smiths hotel at Gretna Green. We were in the final days of our holiday in Scotland and wanted to have a special meal. We were staying at the hotel and saw this had good reviews. Well it didn’t disappoint. It was good that you could pick and mix from the a la carte menu and the bar menu. Every course was very good. Because we had courses from both menus I didn’t think it was too expensive. The service was good although it was very busy with other events going on. The staff were kept busy but were still attentive to our needs. Would recommend if you want something special or just for an evening meal.

A super bed and breakfast with a lovely vegan curry and home baked ecclefechan tart in the bar which had an open fire. Steve and Mary looked after us like a mum and a big brother. Could not do enough for us including a very welcome lift to and from hoddom Bridge as we were walking the annandale way. And a packed lunch to order. Will recommend to all, especially walkers.

We ate here and finished our meal, the waitress cleared away and we decided we'd have another round of drinks before leaving. We waited 5, 10 minutes and the waitress never came back. I went in search of someone but couldn't find our waitress. I didn't like to open the doors to the kitchen. We waited another 5 minutes and my wife said 'this is ridiculous' and went off in pursuit. She found our waitress in the bar (was she watching TV, did she fancy the barman?) and asked if we could get some service. The waitress said 'the restaurant is closed', as if we were being unreasonable in expecting to be served a round of drinks. No, the restaurant isn't closed if you've still got people sitting at a table you're serving and you haven't asked them if they want a dessert or offered them the bill but simply buggered off. So we said OK, can we just pay the bill. Which we did, and obviously didn't leave tip. We won't be going back.
