Excellent service and excellent food. I had a large group and Alyssa was so patient I in responding to my emails advising the increases numbers. The steak was great and quite a bonus to have authentic beef dripping with the table bread. The N1 beer on tap was lush too,

Such a brilliant place to go for a great Sunday roast. Lovely staff. Would recommend reserving in advance.

I had a fabulous lunch yesterday at the Pig and Butcher. We ordered only from the starters menu, everything was delicious. Service was attentive and great house wine too! The crab gratin was a favourite for me!

Visited for birthday lunch! Arrived at 2pm menus appeared 40 minutes later and our meals at about 3.30pm! Yes I know one has to wait for found to be prepared but to wait so long for menu, I think not! Out of stock of wine ordered, offered an option which was £10 dearer! We’d been told how ‘wonderful’ food was! Don’t know why if chef was having an off day but at best it was ‘mediocre’ giving that it is supposedly ‘Michelin’ rated-on investigation post meal ‘it’s mentioned in ‘a’ Michelin guide book!

Not sure what has gone on this used to be one of the best spot in London for a roast dinner!! I booked in advance as you have to do this most of the time due to the demand. However the food was not great not sure if the chefs have changed or just ended being a bad day but was a shame potatoes where unseasoned and lacked flavor same for the veg the Meat had a lot of fat on however the flavor of the beef was okay same for the starters all in all was a real let down considering that it still holds a great reputation

Sunday roast here was an absolute riot! Tender meats, heavenly toffee pudding, and Marketa's service with a side of laughter. A must-visit for food and fun!

Fantastic pub for Sunday roast. Had the pork belly - superb - tender, with a very crispy crackling on top. The meal alone was 25 quid, but it was worth every bit.

The steak is excellent. Definitely have that!

Poor choice of drinks - didn’t have Jack Daniels (very basic whiskey), diet lemonade, nor Coke Zero (why?….). Service was pretty bad (had to beckon someone whilst sitting right at the bar after a few mins of being there; queue took a while to even get inside the place; food took over an hour to arrive (we were told it was because we ordered the lamb which didn’t make sense to us), had to ask for side vegetables), and food was lukewarm. Also they only had one dessert (sticky toffee pudding) though to be fair they said that was because their fridge had broken down so outside their control. Staff were very pleasant, polite, etc but just service level was poor. Food was just ok. Overall disappointing visit and won’t go back.

Was really disappointed with Sunday roast as had really been looking forward to it. Ordered the lamb which we waited ages for, once it arrived we had to ask where the sides were and they came a bit later. All the food was served cold. Nice atmosphere but wouldn’t go back for the food.

Sat upstairs, great room. Table by window. Beef roast dinner was outstanding, so tender. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Perfect.

Was able to get a spot with friends at the bar for lunch. Great atmosphere, the staff were very knowledgeable. There was only one vegetarian main dish but it was terrific. My friends loved the scotch egg.

The food tasted amazing but the potion sizes where very small. I went with four friends we where are still hungry after and we had a dessert. But overall the atmosphere and service was great. Also we order lemonade and gin and everytime we ordered the drink it came in different size glasses and got smaller throughout the course of the night but the price was the same.

Brilliant spot for a weekend lunch.

This is our second time here and we were not disappointed with our experience. Excellent, quality food and great service. Overall, we had a lovely time enjoying ourselves with the food and atmosphere.

A very attractive environment. Although the establishment advertises it self as a pub restaurant there is very restricted bar space. We got a table and were served by staff that were very friendly. The Steamed Cod was dry, with stale Ratte potatoes of which we were served 2 each not the usual rule of 3! And cost £27. I love places like this and I know the strains of the industry. But if you are going to charge me this amount of money at least serve me a well cooked plate of food. Better places to eat in Islington!

The most average but expensive roast I've had in London - it really was a joke. The smallest portion size ever. There are so many better roasts around for much less. Nothing special at all.

Not as good as I remember when we came here for a magnificent Sunday roast on a visit to London before the pandemic. This time it was a Friday and we just wanted a light lunch and a beer. The choice was not great and we had a misunderstanding over the service. In the end we weren't charged for the sourbread. There was only one choice each of ale and bitter. We would give it a second chance for the Sunday roast which everyone still says is very good.

Simple food, small portions. Service was not quick and forgot drinks for about 15 min. The food tasted well. Cozy place.

Great Gastropub with great quality ingredients cooked very well. As a pescatarian I was slightly concerned it was going to be meat-heavy. They are probably best known for their meat but all of the food was delicious. Starter of beetroot and goats cheese was so nice and the cod I had for main was probably the best cod dish I've had in London. My family had the short rib and chicken and there were clean plates all round. Shout out the the chips as well! Feeling fairly full we were going to opt-out dessert but two servers strongly recommended the sticky toffee pudding. I would go back for this alone- it was sensational and I'm not a dessert person. Extensive wine list by glass and bottle. Fabulous dinner, nice decor and pub atmosphere and lovely service- they moved us to accomodate my elderly dad. Price was mid-range and similar to other gastro pub experiences and I would highly recommend this place- especially if you like short rib or sticky toffee pudding!

Overall; disappointing. The service was inattentive, though always polite. The food was tasty but way too small portions for a gastropub (I had the pork belly). I went home hungry. Limited beer selection due to some supply issues. The venue was clean but uninspiring, run down & shabby. Won’t be going back again unless they reinvent the place.

So disappointed and was looking forward to it… I booked two weeks in advance, mentioning we are coming to try the truffle chicken and therefore were booked on a Sunday because the person on the phone said it’s only served for the roast. We arrived yesterday and there was no truffle chicken on the menu and the waitress told us it’s on the main menu but not the roast menu. Disappointment 1. I ordered the veggie Wellington with garlic truffle emulsion, it came without the garlic truffle emulsion. The Wellington itself was a mini piece of pastry filled with the exact same veggies that come with the roast, so I had cabbage, parsnip and carrot on the plate and rolled in a tiny pastry. Great. As least make the veggie Wellington different, it really felt like you’re making a joke of your customers. Oh, and there were two potatoes per dish. See on the image the not yet started meal, it’s all there The side salad I ordered never arrived, when I asked for it it came. But the “green life with lemony dressing salad” was actually a purple leave with no dressing just its weight in salt, it was an awfully bitter and salty salad. How can one mess up a salad??? The only good thing really was the Yorkshire pudding (which isn’t the most exciting bit of a roast, but it was good) and the cauliflower cheese. Everything else was awful. I had only one drink with this, and it all accounted for 40£. I’m really upset.

We’re regulars for Sunday roast have have brought many friends and relatives for roast here. The food is consistently good. However we were disappointed by the service tonight. With a 12.5% service charge, I didn’t realize it was my job to flag down the wait staff to order dessert? We had raved to our guests this visit about the dessert but when we finally had someone come clear our plates we were told “sorry you don’t have time for dessert because the next table is coming in.” Pretty disappointing. I would recommend you have your staff come check in periodically. I get that you have a 2 hour sit time, but it’s not a great experience if I need to be watching the clock to make sure we are fully satisfied with our meal. That is the wait staff’s job.

I admit my expectations were high - especially for a pub which specialises in roasts. The service was lovely and welcoming and the atmosphere was perfect! I ordered the roast pork. Beautiful meat! My partners slab of sirloin was amazing too! My vegetables were a mixture of perfectly cooked and Al Dente, which was disappointing. Yorkshire was fine, but the roast potatoes were so disappointing. Also, on the menu it says roast pork with apple sauce. Mine missed the apple sauce, which I then had to ask for, and the waitress scanned my plate to see if it was hidden. We ordered dessert, and the same waitress laid down two spoons for sticky toffee pudding. 5 minutes later, a different waitress walked over and started to take the spoons away! We saved the spoons, and when pudding arrived - it was stunning!! It feels like there's multiple personalities in the kitchen, and the waiting staff need a bit more care. Finally, in the back area, please lock the doors to avoid people going out for a cigarette and letting cold air in.

If you like your meat then this is one of the best places in London

A lovely place to come and eat. The food is very good and the service excellent. I would recommend booking as it gets very busy.

We had a lovely Sunday Roast at a really nice pub/restaurant

Warm and welcoming service from the moment we arrived till the time we left. We visited on a Sunday and the choice for Sunday lunch is fantastic. Great selection of starters and mains, in fact we couldn't choose we selected a number of starters to share. We all went for the beef as a main and is was perfectly cooked and the yorkshires were big and tasty. Cannot fault this place but I do advice to book in advance, so as not to be disappointed.

Came yesterday evening with our newborn and the host (lady with blonde hair) was super lovely and helpful. Food and service was great too. Thanks!

Phenomenal restaurant!! Great quality of food, friendly service and ambience is settling. As I learned that Sunday roast is a staple for England, I became appreciative of that tradition and I can tell you all that the Pig and the Butcher make it slightly better than home😉 They welcome the entire family!!(even the family pup 🐶). Underwhelmed. Minuscule portions even by older woman measures with Hefty pricetag. Service OK but disinterested and had to be flagged down even on slow night. Food OK - little choice - would not return.

Booked the private room for our wedding celebration in summer 2021. Loved the room but we were a little worried about food quality having tested it out a few months before. it was fine but nothing special. BUT on the day, the food was exceptional. We were delighted. Hog roast, highly recommended.

We stopped in after some Boxing Day shopping after having lived in the area for nearly six years. We are now kicking ourselves for not stopping in earlier. Food is top notch, service is friendly, and the feel is warm and welcoming.

Staff: Amazing Atmosphere: Great Food: Average. The steak was tough/stringy and the fish was very undercooked. The scotch egg was however, fantastic.

The food was really incredible and I could recommend it enough for that reason HOWEVER the service was extremely chaotic and disorganized. We watched as every other table was waited in a timely manner and we were repeatedly ignored or asked if we wanted a dessert menu while we waited over an hour for our food or if we wanted to pay three separate times while we waited 30 minutes for dessert. This is all while watching the table next to us finish their dinner, get their plates cleared, get dessert menus, order dessert, and receive dessert. I would understand if they were short staffed but it seemed like we were the only people who had this experience tonight :(

Arrived at t 7, placed an order around 7.30, got someone else's entree, and the main course didn't arrive till after 9pm. Fish was nice, as was the steak. Venison was ok, chicken below expectations. The wait was ridiculous but we were having great conversations, so we racked up a 500+ bill, mostly in booze. Honestly, I wish we had gone somewhere else because this was not worth the money.

I'm surprised at all the hype, we found the food expensive and underwhelming for £75 a head with 2 drinks each. My steak was cold and my partners squash was tough, the hard skin left on was basically inedible. Also, the staff were rather brusk, we got zero smiles and left a bit disappointed :(

Nice athmosphere and service. But was really surprised by how much I didn't like the food. I appreciate everyone has different pallets so it is largely subjective but my friend had the same dish and thought the same as me. I ordered the starter of Butternut squash soup, black garlic, chestnut & wood mushrooms with the sourdough bread (£11 in total which is too expensive in my opinion). The soup wasn't very thick, tasted too strongly of aniseed, the spinach/kale was made very bitter and the taste of butternut didn't come through. The mushrooms on top of the bread were cold and tasted like wet flannel sadly (I love mushrooms usually) and the black garlic was overpowering and too smokey for the dish (I couldn't finish the mushrooms on the bread). On the plus side, the dish was presented nicely and came in good time with friendly service. However, we left and got more food elsewhere.

Fan-bloody-tastic. What a lovely place, rustic, warm and welcoming, with great service, ambience and most importantly - Incredible food. We had a team Christmas meal in mid December and I kid you not, it was the best works meal I’ve ever had. Everything tasted delicious, the portions were unreal and we never ran dry of drinks. Staff were great, and I’d go back again anytime. Thank you!

Such a disappointment. Website talks of “craft beers” yet they sell Urquell, Peroni and Guinness on draft with a token ale on pump. Food was bland and underwhelming and the meat was overcooked and dry. Very noisy main room with everyone shouting over each other to be heard.

The best scotch egg in the world. My only gripe with this place is that they should leave more room for walk-ups or people wanting a drink and bar snack. It is a pub after all.

Our wedding dinner here was an absolute delight! The special event room exudes coziness, creating wonderful memories. The exceptional wine selection, delectable meat, enticing starters, and the unforgettable sticky toffee pudding made the experience truly amazing. Kudos to the great service and friendly staff that added to the perfection of our celebration.

Cosy vibe, delicious flavours. We ate here two days in a row and both times staff were super helpful with my dietary requirements. The sea bream was cooked to perfection and the partridge had a wonderful depth of flavour.

Don't book over the phone. No confirmation of reservation sent and then turned away our party of 5 at the door. It didn't matter that we had a log of the call, and they wouldn't apologise for the mistake at all.

Best Sunday Roast in the area. Scotch eggs are wonderful too. However, vegetarian food is also available during Sundays. We also visited during the week, and we loved the menu. Always a great choice of wines, beers, cocktail and spirits. Super cool location and nice staff.

Great place to stop in for dinner. The sourdough bread was fantastic. We had the roasted squash, venison and rump steak all delicious. We finished off the night with sticky toffee pudding which was good. Thanks for a great evening.

Used to love coming here, definitely seen a decline in past 18 months..the food is pretty average and extremely expensive. Will give it a rest for a while and look elsewhere

Good food, but horrible service. We were there for 4 hours, took 90 minutes to get our appetizers and entrees and another 45 minutes to get our puddings. Nothing was said about the delay/quality of service either.

Woweee what a great roast dinner. The crown xhicken for two was enough for 3/4. It was so tasty and juicy. Cooked to perfection. The yorkies were huge and tasty done in goose or duck fat. The gravy was lush (however not enough although they gave more upon a request). The veg was goodish. Nothing to rave about apart from the creamy leeks which was very tasty. The roast potatoes was cooked in beef dripping which really added to the taste obvs although they could have been roasted a little more. Out of 10 it score an 8. It lost its points to due lack of interest in veggies and the pototoe. Overall great experience lush starters and main.

Great atmosphere, good food (small portion tho for that price), nice location and wine list but below average service. Very junior waiters, with no experience (we had to open wine ourselves, he didnt know how to do it). Second time in 6mth that we are slightly disappointed.

Can’t comment on the food- we didn’t get that far. Tim the ‘manager’ was absolutely shocking, turned around to me and said ‘whatever’ after asking him where the menus and service were. He accused me of having children at the table and that was to blame for their appalling service. We ended leaving without ordering anything after being sat down for 20 minutes with no service what so ever. And this was after standing at the entrance for 15 minutes at least before anyone even spoke to us. And yes we had a booking. Tim is probably top of the tree for worst hospitality managers I’ve ever come across. Dreadful and shocking

Had an amazing experience here wonderful decor to look at as your dinning we sat near the fireplace. Food was delicious best Sunday roast lamb was mouth watering. 100% would return.

On a Sunday, this is 5* every time. Probably the best roast I’ve had. However, any other day the food is consistently close but imperfect, which is a tough sell for the price. We shared a ribeye steak which cost around £180. It arrived just about cooked. We were promised medium (staff recommendation) and arrived rare at best. A decent amount went wasted because it was too raw to eat. A real shame for a beautiful cut of meat. I can’t fault the Sunday menu, but the rest of the week always seems to have issues.

Food was ok. One dish was not hot, another not cooked well. The food came out literally 5min after ordering, so it would seem not cooked to order.

So, so, variable, every single visit … though I have still stupidly been going once a week most weeks, though largely for convenience. So please, please, don’t risk it at this price point if you don’t actually live in N1. Tonight, I simply cannot resist posting a pic of — what I assume, based on what I ordered after my main— was ‘cheese’. This was, I might add, £9. Back in Umbria, one of my compagni would likely have gone off on one. But this is London, so I pulled a suitable WW2 ‘put up with it’ face and was entirely unsuitably comped with a further glass of wine I did not want. ASK you muppets - or, better still, apologise and remove the ‘effing board you just placed in front of me with its dried out piece of (wholly unidentifiable) formaggio which should never have left the so-called ‘kitchen’. All this, I should say, served by the seemingly new front of house - nose stud, unsmiling, grumpy, bad attitude - “we need your table back in an hour twenty” - they didn’t of course. So until they get it sorted - including the new ‘cheap’ (but not to you) Vermouth, and the lazy preening 19 yo behind the bar poorly mixing it with Campari and gin, I’d probably; no, actually really, really — avoid. (P&B has, I should say, been through a couple of owners since the ‘old’ good reviews you’ll read here. But I note that their website still misleadingly quotes pre-pandemic (different good owner, good food) reviews; and that their OpenTable menu explanation (daily changes etc.) is just frickin’ hilarious.)

Food is very good and the space is nicely done. Warm and pared down. It’s let down by the front of house staff who don’t seem very happy to be there.

Best pub I've been - very cozy atmosphere and unique. Delicate dishes with creativity and quality. The Salmon starter was truly beautiful. Would def. come back for more. The Manager is very kind and attentive as well.

Amazing meal! Quiet, unpretentious spot with cozy, elegant feel. We were given all the time we needed for our meal - lots of time for discussion as we pored over the menu. Knowledgeable server who helped us with the menu items and in selecting a fine wine. Every dish was spot on, from appetizers through mains and dessert. Highly recommended!

Probably the best Sunday Roast I have ever had ( been there already 3x times!) Every time I think about it I can still feel the taste in my mouth. Especially I love the sharing platter, meat is lovely cooked, tender and juicy. Vegetable super fresh, crunchy and glazed. Potatoes are crispy and delicious-best I’ve ever had. Nice selection of wines. Everything was delicious. Even my English friends keep asking when will we be back again! It’s not easy as it gets booked out so make sure you make reservations in advance ( like 2-3 weeks) especially for groups over 4. Ambience is nice, clean and rather modern. Staff is polite but not over the top, just what you need. Highly recommend it.

Heard so many great reviews about this place, and reserved well in advance for our trip to London. This place was quite a haul for us to get to, so I was so excited to finally arrive. Service was okay at the beginning, then a huge party arrived literally minutes after us. What made the experience a letdown was the fact that literally every table around us got their food well before we did, even the folks who had arrived after us. We felt forgotten and I was very hungry by the time we got our food -- nearly an hour after ordering. The roast was okay, a bit flavorless and the Yorkshire pudding was very dry. Sadly I can't say this was a memorable experience and would not recommend to others.

Booked a table for Saturday lunch and arrived on time. Left waiting for 15 mins and we spoke to 2 members of staff during this time. Eventually got seated and service was very curt and frosty. Ordered bread and starters that didn’t turn up. Would not return.

Бармен , открывая бутылку с сидром, облил мои брюки и даже не счел нужным извиниться. Обслуживание долгое. Официанты неопрятные, в плвседневной одежде. Порции маленькие, говядина пересоленная, жесткая, оленина мягкая, но безвкусная, куропатка сухая. Слишком много посетителей с собаками. Переоцененный паб с потугами на ресторан выской кухни с неоправданно выскими ценами. . Категорически не рекомендую.

Fantastic menu (every dish was killer) and friendly staff, plus dog friendly as a bonus! The only criticism is the music was a bit loud given the audience at 5pm, which largely consisted of parent dinners.

Locale carino, accogliente atmosfera, cibo ok, senza infamia e senza lode, più belli che buoni. Ma la sorpresa è stato trovarsi nel conto il 12.5% di mancia già calcolato nel conto finale senza nemmeno che venisse chiesto al cliente se fosse d’accordo. Lo trovo assurdo , in paesi come l’America ,dove è obbligatoria la mancia , viene comunque chiesto al cliente ed è, inoltre, lui a scegliere la percentuale . Insomma .. non ci tornerei. Tenetelo a mente…

The quality of the ingredients and the methods they are prepared were top quality. However my food was delivered semi-cold, the base proportions are too small, and the cost and premium experience I was expecting was misaligned. On positive notes the hostess and staff I interacted with had good food /wine recommendations. The pork in the dish I ordered was prepared very well, a very high grade of meat was used absent of any fat and there was a reasonable amount of it. This was all tarnished by the semi-cold delivery. The vegetables and cheese sauce aside from the cold delivery was high quality. What was really missing was a second side like mash potatoes to make up for the small portions. The menu also was confusing with no section labels, just the ingredients in a given item with no order. The take away I hope the owner gets from my review is these are very easy to fix problems. I look forward to coming again in a few months to reassess.

Went for a Sunday roast. The food was excellent. Had the hogget leg which was yum. All the trimmings are good too especially the giant carrot (not camberwell). Service was very attentive without being hassled. Amazing wine list too. Really very good. Would definitely go back if in the area.
