Prior to visiting The Piercefield this year I had been there for many years. The redesign of the pubs internals is quite bad, I much prefered the old layout. Food was was very average and a mistake with our order meant that one person was left waiting for there meal while the rest of us ate. The price of the food was quite resonable and the staff on the whole were quite attentive although I did have to leave the table to order more drinks.

MyMum rang up and booked a table last night for her partner and myself and my husband for 2pmToday. Don’t have much time together with different work schedules so was nice to have time spent time together. Got there and we order drinks and that was hard work to begin with the young girl didn’t really know how to use the till and added drinks on to our order that we didn’t have so straight away we had to tell her that the order was wrong. So after that we were deciding on our food and on the menu was ‘two courses for £12.50’ which would either include a starter or a desert. So my mum went to the bar to order the food to be told that over half of the menu wasn’t available but yet she didn’t tell us that when we walked in and when we were deciding what to have when looking at the menu. So in the end we decided to pick whatever was available and then when my mum went to pay the young lady said that the offer for the two courses for £12.50 wouldn’t work on till so the total bill was a lot more than what it was meant to be. She said that she had to ‘text’ her manager to ask him for authorisation and the code to knock the discount off. This manager was nowhere to be seen. I could hear the staff saying between themselves they didn’t know where he was and they didn’t know what to do. My mum starter came out and it was cold and half the stuff that was advertised with this started didn’t come out so when we questioned it they said they didn’t have any sauces etc. That was the finalStraw. We politely told the girl that we would pay for our drinks and to cancel our food. The staff were soApologetic and it wasn’t their fault at all and I stated that. I felt sorry for them. This manager should be supporting There staff. And one last thing they were having work done and there was drilling in the short time we were there. Very disappointed. Used toLove the piercefield.

Good layout and well spaced tables inside with large outdoor Beer Garden. It’s many years since I’ve been here and I found the young Staff very welcoming and efficient. The food is standard Pub menu but very competitively priced. Bristol locations are much more expensive than here.We all had different main dishes which were good portioned and good quality.A very enjoyable and relaxing lunch, if you are visiting the Wye Valley it’s well worth a stop off here rather than the overpriced Tintern pubs.

Before lockdown this was one of our favourite and regular local pubs to meet friends coming over from Bristol. I booked a table for Wednesday evening for 4 of us. Ordered drinks but the staff were too young to take our payment and they could not find the manager but would not give us our drinks as we “had to pay as we go” a couple returned their food to the bar, had a discussion with the bar staff and left but the two plates of food were left on the bar and still there when I was finally able to pay for drinks and go through to the restaurant to sit down ....... something that seemed a bit odd was a Yorkshire terrier was running around the restaurant, not sure who it belonged to!! we ordered steaks and to be fair our main course was fine and enjoyable but the sticky toffee pudding was far from acceptable. No table service so up to the bar to order food and extra drinks which was a shame as from the restaurant they used to provide table service. Pint of peroni and a pint Rev James £9.40 seems very expensive.

Rang to book a table for lunch this Saturday for 14.00 but was warned that the kitchen codes at 15.00. Not a problem we thought so arrived at 1.45, fifteen minutes early. Staff seemed confused and after a lot of flustering we were told there was a 45 mins wait for food so orders were no longer being taken!!!!Ok, so thought we would just order a nice bottle of wine to drink in the garden while we consider where to go next. Asked for the wine list and was told they don’t have one! Asked if they had any Chablis, he said no, they only had what was in the fridge behind the bar - a total of three bottles cheap house wine stuff , and even one of those was open. We left as indeed did the family of four also waiting for service.

I’ve read the pub has new management, and we are only a few weeks out of lockdown so there can be a grain of salt for dissatisfaction. The staff were tense, with us and with each other. Service was very slow, both ordering and paying. We missed the kitchen closing by two minutes so we weren’t able to order chips, fair play, but then they up-sold a mineral water by saying they didn’t have soda on the gun, which wasn’t true. We wanted to spend our money there, why lie? 40 minute wait to close the tab, confusing digital system that they couldn’t work out... In the end they refunded the crisps that they didn’t bring to the table and took off the water, but it was terse. Terse enough that here I am complaining. Good luck to em.

We went here for some food and some drinks we was all looking forward to coming here as we have heard good reviews about the place. We ordered the shared starter off bread off heaven it was nice and we was all very happy with it.For the main course I ordered the brains beef burger what was very dry and didn't look that nice at all. I have had better burgers from a fast food restaurant then here. My mate ordered buttermilk chicken what was also very dry and didn't taste nice at all we could off done a better job at home and would never expect a restaurant to serve something like that. My girlfriend ordered the chicken tavern what was also dry and burnt in places. The food quality is very poor and I really can't get my head around how this can happen when you had nearly a year off work. The reason we didnt complain is because the waitress leonie was amazing and made sure we was all okay she kept doing her check backs and made sure we all had enough drinks. She is definitely a role model to all the other staff and I really think she was let down by the poor food quality. I also thought it was rude that knowone answers the phone, we even left a voicemail and knowone even got back to us, we had to drive down there to make sure the request was dealt with.

Having visited the pub just after the kitchen had closed, we were seated and taken through the track and trace process. We then proceeded to wait 5-10 mins for anyone to take our order , this prompted me to pop my mask on and reach out to a member of staff in case they’d forgotten where we were seated, as the pub was not busy and it was well staffed. After being walked around and not acknowledged for 2-3, I asked do we order at the bar or is it a table service? I was assured it is table service so returned to my seat - 1 minute later we were greeted by and extremely rude Landlord, who proceeded to ask if we’d been sorted yet, I confirmed we are wanting to order drinks - his response accused us straight away of not waiting to be seated (which was not the case) and then once shutdown on that, accused us of not completed the track and trace (which was not the case) and even pointed at two gents that came in after us, saying we’d come after them. No apology or even the slightest hint of interest in customer service.

Very pleasant lunchtime experience on Tuesday 15th September with a meal still up to previous standards. Mr Andrew the new Manager welcomed us and explained the current Covid 19 safety standards for using the restuarant, that operated on an easy to follow gyratory system around the spacious restuarant ,bar and toilets. A system devised by Mr Andrew who must be complimented on his well thought out system. Please respect the safety requests by all staff it is, after all, for everyone’s safety. The meal was very good. The waiting staff very helpful and the service prompt and not forgetting the catering staff who work hard in the kitchen behind the scenes. Thank you for an enjoyable lunch in very difficult times. Just had the unfortunate experience of lunch at this establishment. I get that the Riche discount was on and so they were busy, but there was no warning that we would wait over an hour for any food to be produced. The food that came out after an hour was very poor - especially ‘gravy’ which had the consistency and taste of dirty dishwater. My other half’s sausages were also clearly burned. It’s only a bargain if it’s worth actually eating, and this really wasn’t!

Lovely welcome initially and good food but terrible service. Very disorganised. Took 45 minutes for our food to arrive and 30 minutes for our plates to be cleared. We had to leave without dessert as my son was too tired and fed up to wait any longer. If we hadn't been there on a Wednesday and part of the "eat out to help out" scheme I think I would probably have demanded some money off the bill. Not sure we will be rushing back.

Yesterday it took forever to get our meals. Having made our order the waiter returned from the kitchen (ALL OF 10 MINUTES LATER) say there were no fish cakes. So two of us order the salmon dish - ever heard of crispy salmon - neither had I until yesterday. Very disappointing. In our party of 4 not one us enjoyed our meals. Sorry won't be coming back.

We have been here before and OK if nothing special. Every place can have an off day.New Years Eve, One O'Clock; car park had 4 or 5 cars. Never a good sign. Display board outside said £11.95 Two Courses. Menu said the same. Quite shocked when we got the bill. Amazing thing was that even with them deducting 20% for poor service and dried up Vegan Burger it still came to nearly £40 ! Landlady said only the green dots were £11.95. There was a finger bowl for the chicken wings, I used a knife and fork. The second waitress said she would refresh it for us. That never happened. The other waitress then said would we like any sauces. I could see the sweet potato fries looked a bit dark and dry so I said vinegar please. That never arrived either and remember the place is practically empty. The fries had more in common with potato crisps than fries. We never like to complain. When you get inattentive treatment like this and they ask was everything alright most people might just say yes thanks and pay and go. Don't be caught out by the green dots!! The meal was expensive for what was pretty ordinary fare.

Ordered Sunday roast week before Xmas. Pub is lovely but roast was awful. Frozen Yorkshire pud with 3 small roasties and 1 slice of beef which was full of fat. Gravy tasteless and thin needed lots of salt which still didn’t give any flavour. I didn’t eat veg but 1 dish came out between 3 with carrots and cabbage only. We Complained but was only told they would feed comments back to chef, such a shame as we had to order cheese and chips afterwards for kids who had eaten an adult meal. We were generally very pleased with our food this evening. Chicken liver pate had texture and tasted home-made, soup and whitebait both good, prawns in the cocktail didn't really live up to expectations - not much flavour was the verdict - but the lime mayo was nice. Homity pie, sausages and mash, steaks all very nice. I would have liked a little sauce of some type to go with my lobster/crab/prawn ravioli, it seemed a bit dry with only parmesan shavings (I didn't notice any paprika butter on mine). Pizza was fab.

Over the years this pub I have persevered with this place. You get a good meal and service then the next time it is awful. Came here for Sunday lunch as we have previously enjoyed their sharing platter where you get pork turkey and beef. We were seated and ordered quickly. After an long wait someone eventsully asked if we had ordered, we said yes and they looked confused when we said the platter. Waited a bit more and when the food came the amount of pork would not have fed one let alone two, we asked for more and another slither was produced on a small plate. Generally the food, service and environment was below standard and there are much better places to eat in Chepstow and Tintern.

We went yesterday as a family of 6 for Sunday lunch. Everything about the experience was dreadful. Long waits for everything, they mixed up our orders and tried to blame us. Some had almost finished their meals before the others were served. Everything was cold and we had to go and beg for anything else we needed like more drinks, vegetables or condiments. The total incompetence of the staff and the cold abysmal food, hard roasties and flat Yorkshire puddings spoilt a lovely family get together. If you go here don't expect consistency. A family visit giving the premises a second chance after previous visit which was okay, sad to day the quality has dropped. The food was not to an acceptable standard on 2 of the meals delivered and sadly had to complain. The value for money is questionable. A refund was given and apologies made but the standard and quality fell too low to justify another journey. This put a damper on our evening, the staff were apologetic and the gardens and surroundings fine. I suspect it’s a brewery led food supply issue that needs to be addressed. Visited on Monday evening not busy. Shown specials and standard menus and chose 1 crab risotto and sea bass from specials but with sweet potatoe chips waitress double checked as she said she had not seen the sea bass before. What arrived was inedible shrivelled and burnt sea bass, sad looking green beans and regular potatoe chips. Complained to a different waiter who said she could not believe it had left the kitchen although she did not know what should look like! We decided not to risk another sea bass and shared the greasy risotto and sweet potatoe chips when they arrived. When I requested the bill the waitress who originally took the order saying she had not seen the sea bass before came up with the revelation that it was one her favourite dishes! We paid for the risotto, drinks, sweet potatoe chips and left in disbelief at the customer care!

Saturday evening visit, lovely welcome from the manager and staff. Food was lovely as always, we had the Neapolitan pizza and the buttermilk chicken with fries and slaw. Highly recommend the pizza!

After trying to find somewhere to eat at three in the afternoon we finally stopped at the pierce field. We ordered our food my choice was a Sunday roast and my husband ordered the vegetarian option, there was no turkey left so i had the beef . After a wait of 25 minutes it arrived and I was horrified to see the meat was almost raw and very fatty the veg were cold and very hard , roast potatoes were to hard to cut and the gravy was like water with a brown sludge running through it , the only I could eat was the Yorkshire pudding.the veg option was no better .i called someone over to see it and they apologised and offered a free dessert which we declined I just wanted to leave , they then didn't charge me for the beef roast but the whole experience was ruined and it had been a special occasion as well . We will not be going back

We arrived at 2:30 when it was quite quiet. We were seated and asked if we wanted drinks which were taken and delivered in good time. Me and my mum had turkey and the other party member had beef. Food was alright- only had two small pieces of turkey but the potatoes were over cooked and difficult to cut/ chew. The issue was after we’d eaten- we ordered to half pints which never materialised as all of the staff were too focused on a party of 20 people which obviously were going to bring them more revenue so were higher up the priority list. We gave up after half an hour of waiting and went to pay at the bar- funnily enough the two half pints had made it into the bill but had never made it to the table. We felt the need to check the bill in case and made them remove it as why should we pay for something that never arrived. The young lad was apologetic in all fairness to him and removed them. It annoys me when restaurants clearly prioritise other customers they see as more important because they will bring them more money- everyone in a paying customer and should be treated the same regardless.

Great meal out with the family. All three of us had the beef burger with a side of opinion rings done in a local brew. 10 out of 10 to the chef James.

Nearly an hour wait for Fish & Chips and a Burger & Chips. Would be understandable if the restaurant was busy but it wasn’t. We were sat on a dirty table with someone else’s plates for half the wait with staff in and out but no one using common sense to clear the table. When the food arrived it was distinctively below average. Everything was over cooked even the burger bun! If we weren’t so hungry we’d have left. Definently gone down hill.

Lovely afternoon at the Piercefield with the family, busy with lots of tables scattered everywhere. Little wait on the food but the lovely garden and sunshine made our family catch up worth while.

Bland, unappetising vegetarian offering served by indifferent staff member who was clueless to the point of rudeness. Management should also take note that waiting-on staff with very long hair should have it tied back for hygiene reasons and perhaps instil some proper training in customer care ? Overall sloppy service and the meal was just awful with rock-hard potatoes and the strangest-tasting pie. Suffice to say we won't be coming back.

We booked a party for a anniversary celebration, the owner could not do enough for us, they made it so chilled and we could decorate the room so it looked special. We had the buffet option which was fantastic they catered for gf, vegetarians etc. Nothing was too much effort for them. I definitely would go here again.

Ordered Sunday Lunch- the restaurant didn't appear to be busy- but waited 25 mins for food order, roast potatoes are ready made- so hard that they couldn't be cut with a knife, the kitchen agreed that they shouldn't have been sent out with the meal and they were inedible. If a restaurant offers meals all day- then the first roast meal should be as good as the last!! - High price for a roast sunday lunch- expected a better roast meal for £11.50 per head!! Wouldn't choose this pub for a roast meal again.. so disappointed..

Great staff and great food. Very good with my odd allergy.Would highly recommend it as it's the best Chinese in the area, I moved a little further away from abergavenny but still travel for this chinese takeaway as I have not found better! Thank you to the staff for their patients and professionalism, and the food is 👍

We’ve been in the restaurant a couple of times now. We especially liked the helpful young man who takes you to your seat. The food has been consistently good and would definitely recommend. The jacket potato with mushroom, bacon and Stilton is a winner with me!

A solid Wetherspoons. Service was quick and efficient despite it being absolutely rammed. Tables clean and staff were very proactive in doing rounds to remove dishes and glasses that you were finished with. Generally seemed to have a lot more staff than most Wetherspoons pubs - maybe they employed more people for the busy Christmas period. Food was quickly delivered to the table and what exactly what you'd expect: no thrills and good enough for the money - especially given how cheap a decent pint of cider is here.

My friend booked a table for six a good six weeks in advance, only to find on turning up there was no record of our booking. It was only by luck that as the customer foot print was low that we were able to get a table. When we asked what went wrong reference our booking, no explanation was given. This would never have happened under the previous ownership.
