The Pier Cleethorpes in North East Lincolnshire

Pre booked tables as we were a large party of 31 and were accommodated very well and seated at the time booked. The ordering system needs improvement, it wasn’t made clear to us that we needed to order food at the bar. On the menu it stated a QR code ordering system but on trying to use this it didn’t work, the lady looking after us informed us that it doesn’t work so you need to queue up at the tills. There was only two tills to do this and long queues. Despite the wait to order, the food came relatively quickly and was fresh and hot. Portion sizes were very generous and there was plenty. Overall, good value for money, lovely fish and chips and accommodating to a very large party. Better use of staff to take orders or more ordering and payment stations would be beneficial during busy periods or get the QR ordering system working.

Excellent food, surroundings and a special mention to Ewan who went above and beyond to help us and Charlie who was absolutely the best. You should be proud of your staff we only came across pleasant helpers well done

On the evening we visited, it was fairly busy but it was very short staffed due to some issues, however it did not affect the service or the food. The manager was very friendly and we had a big round table as there was a large number of us. Food was delicious and came out in good time. The staff member that looked after us all evening was Steph, she was so polite and made sure we had everything we needed. A really good evening had by all.

Food was good value for money, will say one sausage (breakfast size) on the kids meal and the smallest glass of pop you could get was a bit tight for the price. I mean my small fish and chips had less chips on the plate than his kids meal? But still nice food. Steph the girl who served and seated us was lovely, really chatty and friendly. Would come back but just skip the kids meal and get a regular meal, kids food not worth the money.

I was warmly greeted by Ty on arrival and seated at a window table overlooking the beach. So that was a good start. I ordered the cod and chips and a pint of Coors to wash it down. Drink and Food were served promptly by Ty with whom I got into a discussion about the mighty Grimsby Town FC adding to the very enjoyable experience of fish & chips by the seaside.

Great service. Stella was amazing! She took great care of us & went above & beyond. Certainly a lovely experience for the lot of us.

Had a great experience yesterday, due to being good Friday it was really busy however our customer service from Sam and Marcos was above and beyond! Went Wednesday,March 20th for lunch, just me & the missus. Ordered 2 x Cod & chips, 2 x Curry Sauces, Bread & butter, tea for 2. Having already paid at the desk the not inexpensive amount of £37 something, we sat down and were served our tea relatively quickly. We noticed that the cutlery hadn't been cleaned properly and the teapot was stained on the outside. The main meal arrived, the cod was more batter than fish, the chips were disgusting. Lots were black, a new potato supplier is needed. One curry sauce would have sufficed, but it wasn't nice, no flavour, too dark. All in all the experience was disappointing, a waste of money. They need more staff and a kick up the bum. Rating 4/10

Drove from Sheffield to cleethorpes for a fish and chip lunch looked on line to confirm papas was open? Yes👍 11.30 opening great waited out door the doors opened at 11.30 to be greeted by a member of staff,We Are Closed. Went out for the day in Cleethorpes and decided to stop by at papas for fish and chips the restaurant was chilly but that was ok as when the food arrived it was delicious! The large cod wasn't too dry and the chips were cooked to perfection. The chip shop platter was perfect especially the fishcake which went down well with some bread and butter. The staff too were amazing served by ty and Layla, making sure everything was ok for us. Overall I would recommend papas fish and chips the food the staff and the environment is amazing. I just think that maybe the restaurant could be a little warmer

We always come to Papa’s in Cleethorpes for family birthdays. The staff are always so lovely and kind and are happy to sing Happy Birthday and bring out a cake with candles on if we give it to them. The food is wonderful. We love it here. Marcos and Stella really went above and beyond tonight for my son’s 7th birthday. They made him feel really special. What lovely people, it’s why we keep coming back.

Papa’s Fish n Chips on the famous pier… What more could you want! The famous Pier is fabulous alone, then add a sea view restaurant and a good old fish & chips menu in newspaper form.. you can’t go far wrong. We were greeted on a cold wet February evening by warm and friendly staff there at Papa’s Fish & Chips. They accommodated us with a lovely table by the window, that had a great view of the beach and the pier gardens seafront. The restaurant itself retains a beautiful interior decor of a once past period of elegance, with chandeliers hanging in the main larger restaurant area, with stage and piano! Our service staff that evening looking after us was ‘Stella’, A lovely attentive lady with good knowledge of the piers past and surrounding area. She waited on us and nothing was too much trouble, drinks, extras and food all arrived in a timely manner, given that this restaurants full service is for 500 covers! The food arrived with good presentation, and Stella brought extras we had asked for, there was even a heater by our table, we were more than comfortable. We would highly recommend this food establishment, if not for the food alone and great service, but for a glimpse into the past on a unique pier setting alone. Given the size of the restaurant I’m sure in the peak summer months it may not be surprising that food orders may take a little longer, and patience comes at no extra cost and just being mindful of the capacity of this unique eatery. 👍🏼

I don't think a bad review should be given unless an establishment has been given the chance to address the issue first......and here we are. Having been to papas several times, apart from the very first time it has got progressively worse. Unless it's summertime it is FREEZING. Make sure you wrap up for a brisk winters walk if you go there. The service? Well, even if there are only 4 tables occupied in the whole place the service can be pretty poor. Wait to be seated. Wait for someone to attend the order desk so you can order (no table order service here). The 'wait' staff, in general, seem to have missed the memo on customer service. There have been 2 occasions (including this evening) where there has been a staff member who has been especially engaging. The other occasion....Well, never seen them again. So, on to tonight. Approx 8 tables occupied. Superb ordering at the desk, the gent was commendable. I mentioned, in context of the very engaging conversation, it was my wife's birthday (our teenage son was with us also). Straight away the gent asked us if my wife would like a small birthday cake at the table after our meal. What a lovely gesture, yes please. "I'll make it happen". Anyway, meal arrived, all looked fine. However, the chips were a little scrappy and scarce. No big deal. Anyway, after getting through the fish(which was lovely this evening) the chip scraps hidden beneath were grim....scrappy, black...not good. Anyway, it happens, no drama. When table being cleared we politely mentioned the chip issue, and certainly didn't make a big deal of it. "Oh, sorry". That was the result of the wait staff response. Now, I didn't expect an award or grovelling apology....but that was it. Did I want a bill reduction? Helll no, I would have declined. Me raising this was purely to help them improve. Anyway, the birthday cake. We waited 15 mins after the table had been cleared (we were wrapped up btw as it wasn't warm). Nothing. I asked a passing wait staff, "what cake?" I explained the situation. Off she went. Anyway, I interrupted her going into the kitchen to find out what was happening with any kind of cake, if it existed....and said it didn't matter, the moment had passed. And we left. I sure hope this place smartens itself up for summer season otherwise I fear its not long before this place closes. I've been to more engaging, better service takeaways.
