We stayed in are camper van and found it to be a great place to stay and sample the fantastic pies, the reason it only got four stars and not five was the lack of or none existence toilet facilities when the pub closed , the money they charged for the overnight stay should at least give you a portable loo. And then to make matters worse after the pub had finished breakfast they locked the doors again to stop you using the pub toilets so unless you have a toilet in your van please consider this, we found a pub nr. By that charged less per night and had full showers and toilet block, other than this well worth a visit.

Fifty two pies to choose from, one for every possible taste. I had the one with haggis, sausage meat and black pudding. Absolutely delicious. The deserts were also beautiful but most of us were too full to eat one. The good news was that there were carry home boxes available, and we were told afterwards that there's an option to have half of the pie cooked and half to take home. That's worth knowing for those with a smaller appetite. We'll definitely come again when we're in the area.

Plenty of parking, we had booked a table and were quickly seated at our table, you are advised to order your drinks at the bar which we did and our food order was promptly taken. I had The Irish Draught pie with chips, my husband The Brandenburger also with chips, my pie did not taste at all of Guinness and the pastry was pretty tasteless, the chips looked nice but had a unpleasant taste which I would guess is from overused oil. The staff were pleasant but based on the food we would not visit again.

With all the hype I was expecting more. They allow dogs, which was why we went, but it was hot and noisy, so rather stressful. They do have 52 different pies available with several vegetarian options but my Andalusian, with roasted Mediterranean vegetables and garlic sauce lacked any real flavour, a disappointment really. I have drove passed The Piebald Inn before but did not realise it was dog friendly. The staff make you most welcome but it is unusual for them to take a name and telephone number as you arrive. ( Informed it was incase you left any articles ? ). There is a section for dog owners which is very good. The selection is overwhelming and was informed to take a picture of the board with the selection of pies and the availability. Went for the Welsh Cob huge portion of filling in the pie with chips and peas a little bit more mint sauce for me but apart from that very good. Will return when next in the area but will do more research of the menu before hand.

I had the “Wonky Donkey” and my partner had “The Shire” and honestly no horses in sight 😂 all the pies are named after horses - if ever you are out this way, it’s a little hidden gem of a place. Nice pub serving proper pies not a bowl of stew with a puff pastry lid. Decent portion of pie, probably too much and very tasty. Expensive for a pie meal though at around £20. Only let down apart from cost was the number of flies buzzing around. So only 4 stars. They would be better cutting pie portion and reducing price to suit in my opinion and invest in a fly trap!

The Piebald is amazing, but not for the reason you might think. The staff were welcoming (and hah-ha funny) from the moment we walked in, telling us how the menu board worked and showing us to our table. Our meal was great to look at, delicious vegetables and gravy. One of us ordered the spicy Mustang, which had the right level of heat; unfortunately, it all seemed to have a big handful of salt in it. We informed the team, who sent the manager, Tom, over. Tom was great. He told us he had tried the mix, and even the pie I had left and agreed it was overly salty and that something was amiss. He treated us with respect, listened, and even adjusted the bill appropriately. I wish places with bigger brand names knew customer service like the Piebald. We WILL be going again! We booked a table as this was a highly rated place for a roast dinner near Scarborough. I had called ahead and enquired about vegetarian roast dinner options for my girlfriend. On the phone I was assured there were multiple options and although this technically was the case, neither were necessarily the best accompaniments for a roast (stuffed pepper and stuffed pasta). The service was great and we had a lovely table in a corner and the atmosphere was cozy and great. I ordered the beef roast dinner and my girlfriend ordered the stuffed peppers with a roast. The food came relatively quickly. The selection of vegetables was nice and was a welcomed change to have red cabbage and cheesy leeks although they would have been a bit more generous with the portion size as it was to share between the 2 of us. It would have also been nice to have some optional extras on the menu like a portion of cauliflower cheese. The roast dinner also only came with 2 roast potatoes which were really big but would have preferred 3 or 4 smaller ones. It came with a jug of gravy however it was meat gravy and there was not a vegetarian alternative but luckily my girlfriends stuffed peppers were quite saucy so her dinner wasn't dry. My beef was nice however it was slightly chewy and could have been hotter coming out and was only kept warm by hot gravy. Bit of an irrelevant side note but the loos were really nice! Everything else was really lovely and we did have a nice meal and I appreciate it is a small country pub in Scarborough but if you advertise as vegetarian friendly then I think it needs to follow through fully - for example being advised they don't have a veggie gravy upon ordering the dinner or even having a veggie alternative. I'm sorry to be negative, especially when we did have such a lovely time (hence the 4 stars) bu my girlfriend has been vegetarian for 5 years and situations like these feel very frustrating and easily avoidable if staff are more aware and informed.

Great place can see why it’s busy. Food was brilliant and the staff were lovely. Would definitely recommend and return.
