The Piebald Inn in Scarborough

If you like pie's this is the place for you. Spent the night in a campervan, food was good in the evening plus we had breakfast in the morning, staff were excellent very friendly and helpful.

Nice pub serving proper pies not a bowl of stew with a puff pastry lid. Decent portion of pie, probably too much and very tasty. Expensive for a pie meal though at around £20. Only let down apart from cost was the number of flies buzzing around. So only 4 stars. They would be better cutting pie portion and reducing price to suit in my opinion and invest in a fly trap!

This is an experience that everyone should have at least once in their life . You get to choose from 52 pies with a range from beef all the way through to vegetarian bypassing pork ,lamb,fish, and Game. The quality of the food is amazing and is like a pie your gran would make you ( no frills piece that's been cut from a proper square pie) between the 3 of us there must have been over a pound of meat 😋 after lunch I didn't eat till the next day . It's worth at least a 30mile trip to eat so if you're in the area, get there if you can 👍

Do you love pies? Well, this is the place to be. My gosh the variety on offer is outstanding and even a doggy pie for your pouch! I would highly recommend booking as it was quite full when we got there. It is dog-friendly, and they do provide water for your pooch. Staff were fantastic, all had a great sense of humour and were very friendly with our little dachshund. The food was amazing and the pie, oh my gosh I need to go back and try another flavour. So much choice from not only the type of meat you want in your pie, vegetarian choices available, but also indian, asian, thai plus others. This is pie heaven!

Very welcomed by the people who work at the pub

Beautiful food. We reserved our pies when we booked as there was 7 of us (recommended). I had the steak and Guinness pie and it was gorgeous, so were the chips. They also keep track of how many pies of each variety are left on a whiteboard, so you can keep an eye on it there's any of your favourite left. It's great that they're also dog friendly if they're well behaved. Our furry friend sat nicely with us without us having to worry where we would keep her.

The pie was great. But the restaurant was too hot. The table was booked for 6.30, but we were not seated till 7.

52 pies to choose from! How the hell I made the decision I'll never know. Something for everyone on the menu whether you like pies or not. Fantastic service, excellent food (very large portions) and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be returning to try another pie.

I was good, food was really nice. Probably a bit pricey for what it is, especially as the mash tastes like the frozen stuff. But still, I love pie. And the people working there were ever so nice :)

About 15 minutes walk from our BnB in Hunmanby. The stroll gave us a bit of an appetite for the amazingly huge pies the Piebald serves. Prices from around 16-20+ pounds per meal. Booking recommended through their website.

Nice food but far too over-hyped. The pies have a bit too much cheese for my liking but the lamb was cooked to perfection.

Excellent food and an impressive choice of 52 pies as well as a regular menu, pies are out of this world. My only one small issue was a personal one in that the veg was not cooked enough for me but everyone else in our party loved them and ate everything. Friendly dogs are also very welcome.

Visited the piebald from the bay after a recommendation and we weren't disappointed. Great location with good parking. We chose to sit outside as the weather was fab, the whole place was super dog friendly and even did dog pies. The outdoor space was really lovely and comfortable. Massive portions for a great price. Would definitely recommend.

The pies were OKISH pastry was poor in my opinion the pie filling was good however, the vegetables were very hard and not athe menu options were available, we almost got charged for someone else's drinks so check your bill

We recently held my dads suprise 80th birthday celebrations at the Piebald Inn. We had contact with Joe who helped us organise the event prior too and on the day. Joe was absolutely amazing and was such a help with the pre organisation and also delivery on the day! We held the celebrations outside in the lovely terrace area which was a great spot to have an outdoor party. The food, espcially the pies were fantastic and such a huge variety of pies! We really enjoyed the day and we thank Joe and all of the staff on the day for making the event such a smooth running great day! Highly reccomend this place for both small gatherings or just a quick bite to eat! Ruth & Andy Grayson

We hadn't booked a table but we were still managed to get a table, but probably best to book in. The staff were friendly and because we had a young child with us the waitress asked if we'd like to have child's food to come out when it was ready as the pies took a bit longer. When the food came the portions were huge! Lovely tasty food!! Pies bursting with filling! Only by looking at other reviews, did I find out that we could have asked if we could take the rest home that we couldn't manage to eat! It would have been great if I could have enjoyed it for second time! Thanks

Lovely place and the wides range of pies ever

Horrible middle aged female member of staff with dark hair took great pleasure in making us stand in the rain to have a cigarette with our drinks when a shelter was available and not in use. We went to check out the venue for a family remembrance event but due to her attitude (and the unapetising looking food) we decided on the Horse Shoe inn where we all enjoyed wonderful food and the staff were so friendly. The Piebald gets a "surprising" number of good reviews but also some very disgruntled low reviews regarding the rude staff and poor service. The owner will probably reply to this review to deny or defend as they seem to be in denial to negative reviews

This place is amazing, so many pies to choose from - but go hungry We have been a couple of times now and each time brought home a box with leftovers The pies are to die for, really fantastic quality and although not cheap you certainly get plenty for your money The staff are very welcoming and friendly and efficient and if you have a dog you can take them too (separate section) Thoroughly recommend

The Piebald is amazing, but not for the reason you might think. The staff were welcoming (and hah-ha funny) from the moment we walked in, telling us how the menu board worked and showing us to our table. Our meal was great to look at, delicious vegetables and gravy. One of us ordered the spicy Mustang, which had the right level of heat; unfortunately, it all seemed to have a big handful of salt in it. We informed the team, who sent the manager, Tom, over. Tom was great. He told us he had tried the mix, and even the pie I had left and agreed it was overly salty and that something was amiss. He treated us with respect, listened, and even adjusted the bill appropriately. I wish places with bigger brand names knew customer service like the Piebald. We WILL be going again! Oh, try the "Karbadian" ... that WAS a hit!

Pies were generously portioned and delicious. Me and my family were impressed with them in every way. Even though we don't own a dog, it's also dog-friendly which is always lovely.

Stayed here with my partner for a fatboy slim gig in Scarborough. Lovely room, amazing staff (even gave us a lift to the train station) We’d definitely stay here again & might even bring our whippet next time. Bravo! 🙌🙌🙌🙌

Lovely friendly pub, great staff, very helpful with my motorised chair as I didn't have a clue. Also sorted us out with a taxi. Lovely, hearty meals and a brilliant outdoor seating area and large garden. Well worth a visit

We hadn't booked overnight accommodation. We were booked in for an evening meal. Wow! What an amazing choice of pies !! 52 types of pie to choose from. Chicken, beef, lamb, goat, cheese, vegetarian selection, fish, and haggis and blackpudding!!! Different sauces, different accompaniments with the various pie choices. Severed with chunky chips, mash, or baby potatoes. Peas, mushy, or garden, and finally a choice of seasonal vegetables !! Wow, it was delicious 😋

What a great concept! 50 pies or so to choose from. Have to say they were really good and packed with meat and/or veg. Service very good too! Will definitely be back but it'll take a while to digest the last pie!!!!!

This place is a real hidden gem and well worth a visit. Staff was very friendly and helpful on our arrival and the food was served in good time. The pie was on a whole new level and both the wife and myself was both very satisfied with the meal. Would recommend highly.

Went for a Father’s Day meal. My goodness, the pies - 52 to choose from - were amazing, from the delicious light pastry to the fillings. Accompanied by home-cooked chips (proper chips!!), mash or new potatoes, peas or seasonal veg, all delicious. Portions are generous so take a big appetite with you - although they are happy to pack it up for you to take home if you can’t manage it all. Staff were very pleasant and even though it was busy the wait wasn’t long. Booking a table is advised though not necessary.

I love it here! Great staff, food is excellent, and pick a sunny day and the beer garden is a great place to be. Why the 4 stars? We stayed in our camper for the first time. The lack of toilet facilities after 10pm was a bit of a problem. I appreciate it's not cheap to build something like that but it would make a massive difference. £30 for electric hookup with a £10 voucher to redeem against food/drink. Very dog friendly.

We accidentally found The Piebald Inn. We were looking for a tasty Sunday roast, but in my opinion, we found something superior. As we entered, we were greeted by the staff who were happy and friendly. We sat outside in the beautiful garden in the fantastic sunshine. It was a challenge to decide between the 52 different pies offered after being given the menu. The pies were served in a portion that I can only be described as American-sized and had an incredible taste. It was great to visit The Piebald Inn and enjoy fantastic food at a fantastic price with generous portions.

Been today for the first time, Sunday lunch father's day treat 😋 and what can we say it was divine, and not just the food, but the service was excellent and the staff all worked as a brilliant team, full compliments to all x definitely be back when we're in north Yorkshire again x

Visited the Piebald with our friends, on Wednesday evening. First time we've been, certainly won't be our last. We were greeted on arrival & the menu & some handy hints explained to us, before showing us to our table. We each chose a different pie, which was no mean feat as there were only a few out of the 52 that we didn't fancy ! When they arrived, they all lived up to our expectations. The portions were extremely generous & the pies were absolutely delicious, best pastry ever ! Despite being more than full, we managed to have cheesecake for dessert, they were to die for. The whole experience was perfect from start to finish. The Piebald has a lovely atmosphere. All the staff were extremely friendly, efficient, & knowledgeable about the menu. It's fair to say, everything about our visit surpassed all expectations, perfect sums it up nicely Looking forward to our next visit.

Great pies and can stay in the VW camper in the car park for a fiver.

Great choice of pies. Very friendly staff. The pies we had where very nice and very large portions so go hungry. Definitely worth a visit. We went at lunch time as walk ins but can imagine it does get busy later on.

We stayed in our campervan, had food and drinks in the pub, great atmosphere, friendly staff, dog friendly too even have a pie for the dog😄. Great portion size and there is a pie filling for everyone. Recommended place to stop by.

Pies here are second to none, both the pub room as well as the restaurant room in the back both have a lovely environment, friendly and hard working staff, just keep in mind the pies are piping hot so you will not get them fast but they are worth the wait.

Second time I have been here. Excellent food and reasonably priced. Good service, pleasant staff. Like the availability board so that you can see what pie's are available before you order. Definitely going to go back for those b e a utiful pies.

We stayed one night in our campervan after ringing at short notice. We had a drink when we arrived as too late for food service. We were impressed with allowing us to stay so we booked a table for lunch the next day. The choice of pies is out of this World! We had a lovely beef and Guiness pie made even more special as our little rescue dog Toby enjoyed a pie of his own and we were all made to feel very welcome. We highly recommend this lovely Country pub

Arrived by bike, and the staff were more than happy to unlock their side gate so they could be stored safely. All of the staff were very welcoming and we were quickly shown to our table. 52 pies are available, one for each week of the year. There is a board that is regularly updated with the number of each pie available. Each pie weighs 0.5kg and is served with mash or chips, peas and gravy. Between us we had beef mince, steak and potato and a Christmas dinner pie. The pastry is light and the fillings enormous, we were so stuffed it was hard getting back on the bikes. Staff are more than happy to box up any pie that you can't manage. My advice is to go hungry in order to finish your plate.

I have just had the Welsh cob pie. It was the best pie I've ever had. I'm no expert when it comes to pies but the portion size was very generous, the pie was packed full of lamb and it tasted absolutely amazing. Myself, my partner and my 4 year old daughter all came out feeling stuffed and satisfied. I would definitely recommend and we will be going again!! I would ring up and book because it does get very full. I did think it was a bit pricey but it was worth every penny

Pies are great and 52 choices will be going again

We came for the pie, or pies. 5 Adults and two small children. We each had a different pie filling and all of us were impressed with the quality of food served. We had a table booked so getting a seat wasn't an issue for us. The portions were a good size, and should be more than enough for 99% of people. Great choice of fillings to choose from, so again, everyone will find a couple of choices they want to order. We all came away full and happy. Great service was the icing on the cake.

Great place, we booked a stop over in our camper van, £15 for a non electric pitch but received a £10 voucher towards our meal 👍🏼 food was fantastic, huge portions and the pies were the best! We also came back a few days later with family, I requested that we have enough room for my disabled dad to sit comfortably at the table in his wheelchair (something alot of restaurant's get so wrong) disabled access was easy and the table they gave us was perfect, they really listened to my request which, as a family we really appreciated. We pre ordered as there was 8 of us, the food came out quickly and we all really enjoyed our choices of different pies. We will definitely be back! Dog friendly too which is a massive bonus they even do doggy dinners. Would highly recommend.

What can I say. Superb pie meal and a good pint of Knowle Spring. Quiet, but then again it was 3 pm on a cloudy Tuesday in May

Wow what a pie menu! What fantastic pies and what a chuck of pie it was! We went on a recommendation 'if you love pie, you have to go to piebald' and it did not disappoint! Only challenges: choosing your pie (52 in the selection) then finishing your pie! Amazing pies and good selection of beers. A must visit for pie lovers!

Fantastic a must on any visit to the east coast

My husband and I have just had a wonderful overnight stay at the Piebald Inn. What a fabulous time we had. After a long day walking, we sat ourselves at the bar, and shown to our lovely room. Very clean and modern. The staff were exceptional, very professionalm but fun, and they made us so welcome. The pie was divine, clearly made with passion and attention to detail. And breakfast was yummy, with lots of choices and all freshly cooked.....we will be back Special thanks go to Tom, Holly, James and Jo who made our stay, such a great one Thanks Guys

Four of us stayed for three nights and there were good and bad points. The bar staff were helpful and friendly and the rooms were modern and spacious. The food was also tasty especially the home made pies. However breakfast staff seemed moody and the eating environment was poor. We should have been sat in their lovely dining area but instead we were kept in a small dark bar area located next to a busy cellar door designed to cater for customers with dogs. Breakfast orders were never accurate and the serving facilities meant you felt awkward having to ask for things rather than helping yourself.

Very good menu. 52 different pies with some interesting concoctions. Large portions. Possibly a touch on the pricier side at about £18, but the quality and flavours were good. Not everything feom the menu is was available, but most were. There is a board to indicate how many portions of each that they have. Only down side was that we, as a couple, were wedged between 2 tables of 4, despite there being room elsewhere.

My partner and I booked a table for Friday afternoon lunch. I was recommended to visit Piebald inn by one of my gym friends. I can't thank him enough. It was amazing. Every pie is home made and the vegetables and chips are freshly cooked. The choices you have is mind blowing. They only make a certain amount of every pie, so once theve gone it's chalked off. It's cheap but worth every penny. The service is friendly and very efficient. We'll definitely be revisiting.

I live in bacup but I love scarborough, filey, hunmanby etc. Try to get away to reighton sands a couple of times a year. Every time we go I always book in to the piebald for a meal. I've been 5 times and always been impressed. Homemade chips, beautiful pies. Mushy peas. Absolutely superb. Going away again in June, will definitely be booking a meal here again!!

Wow what a great place, great selection of beers. The selection of pies is absolutely amazing, something for everyone and you will be full after.

Stopped here for dinner, the pies are outstanding, and being a 20st guy the portions were really good. I usually leave places still hungry but not the piebald.

If you love pie, visit here. 52 varieties of pie to select from. The price isn't the cheapest but you definitely get sizable portions. Great selection of beers too including 3 Timothy Taylor's.

Excellent choice of pies, we have visited three times in the last few years (we live 2.5 hours away) and all of our choices have been good over that time. There are so many to pies to choose from, it’s very difficult to decide what you want. Staff are friendly and helpful. Dogs are allowed in the pub, but not the restaurant side which is good. Set in some lovely countryside.
