Excellent as always, delicious food, reasonably priced, I wish I’d had room for a pud. Lamb shank is a treat, tender as anything with proper veg.

We went for lunch today and as always it was lovely, generous portions of homemade food. For starters we had prawn cocktail and tempura prawns which were crispy and tasty. Mains were a freshly cooked omelette and toastie which were perfectly cooked with side salad and chips. There is a huge choice of food options that caters for everyone. The landlady and staff are friendly and the service is efficient. Prices are reasonable for what you get. Well done to Emma and the team you are a credit to this establishment.

We had a family birthday to celebrate and wanted something than just a meal, so we choose the Pheonix as it has a skittle alley. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and we’d ordered our food before so no waiting around. We had the basket meals that were piping hot and what we expected and good sized portions even for the children’s meals. A good afternoon was had by all with lots of room to move about and mingle with the family. 👍🏻

Pretty place, nice staff, shame about the food! Chicken goujons and jalapeño starters were obviously cheap frozen food, even Iceland and Lidl sell better quality than this. The prawn and crayfish cocktail was no better, decent amount of shellfish in the mug, but an inch of water in the bottom of it too, yuck! It was served with tasteless cheap brown bread and no salad whatsoever! No lettuce, no cucumber, no red onion, nothing, hardly a 'cocktail'. The sauce was OK, but ended up just watery slop if mixed with the shellfish in the mug, ridiculous! The 'full rack of ribs' ordered had no mention they were baby ribs, more like a starter than main course, great for children sized portions, bit tough and tiny. Chips were OK, usual frozen fayre though. The korma was awful. Since when does a chicken korma have big lumps of tomato in it?! A few lumps of chicken with the rest tasting like blended tomato soup with korma sauce and shredded chicken added, even tinned korma tastes better than that did. Fry up was OK, but that's not rocket science. Mushrooms tasted dry (probably been cooked a couple of times before). Nice to have fried bread and the egg was cooked perfectly. We had a check back after each course, unfortunately it was 'after' not during. No point in mentioning the issues, waiter looked like he was only 14 and was timid anyway. We've eaten here before and enjoyed it, so not sure if the chef has left or if the manager has just decided if it isn't frozen and can't be microwave he won't buy it. We certainly won't be back again now. Avoid this place, when you can't even drain water from a mug and cut some lettuce all is lost. Very disappointing. Stars only given for the cheerful barmaid, because we felt sorry for the waiter and pretty pub.

Came to Twyford to deliver our clocks for repair to the workshp opposite the pub. Been meaning to fit in a pub lunch for some time so took the opportunity to call in to the Phoenix - lucky day, the special was fish & chips & mushy peas. Doesn't sound particularly special but the way done here is excellent - no skin on fish, batter just the right amount and degree of crispness, and chips perfect. Even enjoyed the mushy peas! I sometimes wonder about giving so many positive reviews, but then I reflect that I try to avoid wasting money at 'duff' locations. You know a pub is likely to be pretty good when you arrive at lunchtime on a weekday and it is busy or gets busy with customers - the Phoenix does. I also like it when the staff ask whether everything is ok, AND mean it - so often you know they don't really care; the landlord and his staff do care. The food has to be good as well - it is and very reasonably priced. Drinks are a matter of taste but for me it has to be real ale, and here the Phoenix has a good wide selection; at my latest visit I enjoyed a pint of Batemans XB and the houses Phoenix ale, both very good pints. One of the most variable meals on offer appears to me to be the 'ploughmans', some are aweful - not here, see picture, delicious. Finally I did get £2.75 change from a £20 note which represents very good value for a country pub in this area in 2019. I will be back, but do not know when, but it is certain.

Large portions, nice chips- but nothing special, nothing which would bring us back! The menu is boring, staff very friendly, but the plastic dinner type menus and mishmash decor is not appealing at all. Especially that the competition opposite is doing so much more for the same money. The ribs were very juicy and nice, the sauce was odd, more like gravy and lacking in flavour (so I brought them home so I could add some BBQ sauce, great supper). The spicy chilli wasn't, not hot at all but a very good sized portion, be hungry if you order this. The garlic bread was excellent. The treacle tart was delicious, perfect in fact. Would have been good to be informed what was not available on the menu before we were left to decide what we wanted to order. No cheesecake available apparently. Odd not to have any kind of chocolate dessert but several fruit based ones on the menu. We will definitely be back, due to the atmosphere and friendliness of the staff really, might have something different to eat next time though. The speed of service and portion sizes were great, but not really impressed with the general quality of dishes overall.

Have had lunch here and played skittles, complete with buffet. This time it was dinner. the family all had fish and chips. Wow what a portion! all had a starter but none of us could manage a pudding, oh well will just have to go back again. there are a lot a of very good walks around the Phoenix(and their dog friendly!) The staff were all very friendly, very relaxed. Can't wait to go back again.

I've visited here a few times for a drink on a walk or for dinner. Always very friendly with a great selection of drinks, super bowling alley, plenty of parking and a lovely garden at the rear. Fish and chip Thursdays are some of the best fish & chips I've ever had! Very lucky to have such a super pub so close.

We had lunch here before going on a walk along the river Itchin. The staff were friendly and the special menu was varied and good. We had a curry - excellent, and a baked potato and a fish dish followed by deserts. There is a range of excellent beers. If you are in the area, worth a visit,

Lovely country pub. The food is ace.. never been disappointed. We first visited in 2005 on a hse hunting visit. We did buy a hse in the area and continued to visit to this day. The pub has changed visually over the years but the staff and standard has remained. Great little place..Worth a visit. There is a down side.. 12yrs on I am no longer the youngest person to visit........

We go to Phoenix at least twice a month. The food is good home cooked and if you want something off the menu within reason Paul and Emma will try to supply. They are friendly enough that should you have a problem they will be happy to correct anything. They are approachable!!!!! If something is not to your taste or you feel there is a problem, why not mention this. I am speechless.Paul,Emma and staff keep doing what you are doing. See you soon.

Well said clearly on receipt espresso on the side. Obviously cannot read. Coffee was vile so returned and got snapped at. Won't be coming back here.

Have not been here since pre Covid. Other reviews were not so good, but we had no complaints. We were early on a Sunday morning so although quite a few people the service was not slow. The coffee was excellent, and the carrot cake jolly tasty. The toilets were very clean. For me I trod carefully on the terrace which did look a bit slippery.

I was inspired to write this review by seeing a Greggs eating numpty slamming the place for price. Yeah, they're not cheap but you're paying for quality ingredients and an amazing product which is value for money. For less than a fiver you're getting a huge sweet treat with complex flavours, a very satisfying, delightfully flaky pastry and a very satisfying and filling experience. If you want a hit of sugar and bland white, air filled bread? There are cheaper options! You won't get a limp chicken pasty here. If you want extremely satisfying bread made with high quality flour and an amazing crust? If you want tasty, sweet pastries with a delicious zing? If you love good food rather than ultra processed? Then this won't bust your budget and will fill you up. The venue itself is a warehouse with some benches other branches are much nicer.

Have never been disappointed here. Have taken many friends and everyone has enjoyed. Back restaurant area can get noisy, but guess if there's a large group this can happen anywhere . You will need to book.
