We're not local, just climbing and paddling along the south coast. After a long day on the sea, we decided to treat ourselves to fish and chips. The chips were golden and how chips should be. Phil was happy that he got to eat haddock, I went for cod. Both our meals were respectful portions. The staff are excellent: the girl on the till noticed that we had been overcharged, so gave us £4 back. We didn't realise, so thank you for your honesty x

food portions are terrible, better off buying a small meal for everyone, the batter is horrible and made it look like it was possessed. the building is beyond plain at best, nothing to look at except the community board or your phone. food is decently fast but doesn't taste any better than home cooked just more soggy. Note: food gets reheated from lunch or the day before, it’s soggy and flavorless, I’d recommend let the poor souls before order before ordering yourself if you do want to go here for some reason.

What have you done????? We always travelled from a few miles away especially for your chips ....the old fashioned golden brown and fluffy!! We came in tonight and you have decided to go like every other fish and chip shop and buy cheap!!! Chewy, brown and hard discusting ....unfortunately won't be coming back again 😔

The was an issues with we went get just fish and chips me and few my friends fallow to ill badly ... few days / nights ending with heavy sickness , diarrhea.... please make sure next time you make fresh fish , non from freezer . Thank you

I have been purchasing fish and chips from the Phat Fryer every week for the last two and half years, I've never had to make a single complaint, the prices are very reasonable, and the food top notch! Last Friday people were queuing out the door, and even with "all hands on deck” in the shop and with orders were being turned around quickly, more and more people were turning up and queuing, a sure sign of a thriving business!! Everyone is always so friendly and happy to see you when you visit the shop. I always look forward to my fish and chip “Friday” - in fact I always end up crossing off the days to Friday !!! Thanks again to Kenny and your staff for their continued sterling service!

just popped in... made to feel very welcome, food served quickly an piping hot and was perfect in every sense. batter was tasty an crispy, but chips was soft fluffy with crispy bits... incredibly well. sourced spuds, with flavour oil was clean an everything well cooked. 10 out of 10 for the phatfryer

Just had a family meal from this establishment and everyone was really happy with their meal. The Cod was beautifully cooked, chips were fantastic and homemade fish cakes were another level. All this accompanied by a friendly service. Will definitely eat here again, 5*.

This place has taken a turn for the worst popped in yesterday and spent £18 on 2 meals and drinks, well what can I say this is the second time I have been here and will be my last the burger wasn’t griddled I think they nuked it in the microwave it was dried and solid, first time I had one it was good, why don’t you invest in a ninja grill if you don’t want to turn on a flat plate griddle at lunch because it’s not busy, maybe if you served half decent food people would be coming to you, and the chips where okay but you can taste the oil they fry them in I don’t think it’s rapeseed oil I think there using that ghastly palm oil that you melt down it lays on your stomach seriously up your game your killing your business

Me and my family are regular customers, the food is outstanding, the staff are super friendly and cater to our every need with full effort and consistency. The quality of the food is so exceptional that this restaurant deserves a significant rating higher than a five star. The prices are amazingly low for the quality of food you receive. I cannot explain how marvelous the general atmosphere is in the establishment, we simply cannot recommend this place more. Thanks to all of the staff at The Phat Fryer for cooking such amazing food in such short times.

I was just checking what time you closed this evening and saw you only had 3.9 stars. Which I thought was odd as you have the best fish and chips I have ever had. Turns out a bunch of whiners left reviews, you deserve a much higher rating! I will be over later this evening for another amazing meal!

Called in en route to caravan park. Lovely lady served us. Food was delicious. Did say we’d leave a good review if it was nice. It was amazing! Please visit if you’re looking for a decent fish and chop supper or lunch.

Anoying that it closes at 8pm. Turned me away today whilst the served the customer in front at 19:58... Good food but they need to be open to be able to buy it. Creekmoor plaice is open til 9pm when the phar fryer turn their back on you.... Good portion. Note on the board that they do half chip portions and kids portions.

Arrived at 7.15pm...chips were very hard and dry...not fresh !...fish seemed to have a lot of batter. Overall disappointed. Would not return.

Great customer service but food isn't 100%. Only had fish and chips but taste of oil , made food taste weird. Needs improvement on oil I reckon. Will try again in near future.

Phoned ahead to ask if they did breaded fish 🐠, they will coat any fish in breadcrumbs for you. Food was good and piping hot. All seemed to be cooked fresh, Inc the chips. Would recommend but in reality we all have different preferences, likes/dislikes etc.

Popped in for cod and chips on a day off. Food was good so will go back.

We called 10mins before they shut this evening, after a long journey as we are staying at a local campsite.. The team were so helpful, even tho they were closing up for the evening they kindly freshly cooked us a large order!.. The team were so friendly and welcoming when we arrived to collect, and couldn’t do enough for us!.. we most certainly will be coming back!.. Thank you so much!

The best fish n chips in Dorset in my opinion

Rubbish! Just been in for the first time, small cod & 1/2 chips, jumbo sausage, small mushy peas & gherkin. When I got home, no gherkin, cod & batter was very hard & dry, chips were more like 1/4 than half. Definitely not value for money. I haven't gone back as the whole point of take away is that I don't need to go out again after a long day at work!! Tried using the chat, not available. Needless to say I won't be using this chip shop again!

Well as we've just moved to Upton only from Hamworthy, we didn't know this place was here! But I always love to try a new place especially a chippy(my favourite) I've tried many a chippy around the Poole area and this very very nice!! Old skool chippy in my opinion, let's get to the fish and chips, We ordered 2x cod and chips. Medium chips well that's definitely enough for one person, a great portion I'd say and I love my food it was a little oily but I like that as helps it go down. The cod was a really good size with a beauty batter on the outside! So definitely all gets 5stars from me! We will definitely be using alot more as our new favourite chippy!! Also reasonably priced compared to many others and a great selection of items on the menu!! Thank you Phat Fryer!! 😊

I picked this place because the bad reviews it had were all hilariously petty and ridiculous, so it most be good. The food was delicious, especially the chips, which were even seasoned to perfection. The staff were chatty and super friendly and the food came out fast, even with a veggie burger that was made to order.

Loved it , fresh cooked and clean oil. I would definitely recommend a visit 🙂

WARNING DO NOT PURCHASE FOOD FROM THIS ESTABLISHMENT Absolutely disgusting greasy poor excuse for a chippy. Bought chips n bacon burger for my son. We parked up 5 minutes away by the sea. Opened the chips n they were stone cold and covered in white lard. I dint even try one. I chucked them out for the seagulls and they came out of the polystyrene container in one gloopy mess. They must been bad coz half the seagulls dint want to know. I pity the poor seagull that did manage to stomache them. The BACON LESS burger I got for my son was not much better. Just squeezed the burger bun n grease came out of the BACONLESS burger. My son had a mouthfuls and then this went out to the seagulls. Do yourselves a favor and read the reviews before purchasing from this establishment. I wish I did as I would've rather starved to death than eat the chit sold to me. I only hope that the chite food did not harm the seagulls.

Came here for a takeaway dinner, even though the food tasted great the large chip’s portion was not large enough to go around 4 people & need x2 large portions but wasn’t sure if I was given a small portion by mistake when serving up

Under new owners now. I can say Kenny is one of the best fryers around this area. The cod and chips I have are always spot on. Some times it's to much for one person. Very busy place at times. Portion size is big, but this is good, no more expensive than other chippy shops in the area

Just moved to Upton was pleased to support a local shop but was disappointed the batter was very doughy and was not hot when I got home only 200yds from shop, considering it was cooked to order.

Delicious high quality cod with far reaching sizeable portions enough to fill anyone! Even the chips are unlike any other chip shop! My only go to chippy and for good reason!

Fish and chips. chips were not fresh fish was covered with what idont know but it wasnt batter threw them in the bin.waste of money.

Unfortunately, despite being an early, straightforward order, the food was very disappointing. The cod was so thin, they were more like fish fingers, certainly not worth what they charge for a medium cod. The batter looked anaemic, floppy and greasy, not this crisp golden batter you’d expect. The chips were greasy and sticky, the sausages were greasy and slightly undercooked. Unfortunately really bad tasting food, my son who usually loves ‘chippys’ from the fish and chip shop wouldn’t even eat it. The girls on the counter were lovely, but the food and the cooking was simply not up to standard. We won’t be returning, and will make the trip to Hamworthy next time. A real shame as we enjoy supporting local businesses.

Awful chip shop, staff rude and the chips are greasy. Really small portions and rubbish service. Re your reply. You must get a lot of people complaining then. I was never rude or obnoxious just simply asked if the portion size was correct as it was so small. Still doesn’t detract from what I said, greasy and awful.

Would give no stars if I could. Brought fish and chips last night for my family. Awful service from the start and everyone in our group who ate batter with their meal, is sick today🤢.....won't be returning.

Edible but nothing to shout about

This is one of the best chippies around. We love their fishcakes, which are practically a meal in themselves, they give generous portions of freshly cooked chips. We have 2 chippies in our home town but prefer to travel 5 miles for better quality.

On holiday and was looking forward to a chippy tea. No times were displayed online. Get here and it closes and 8pm not happy and have never known a chippy to choose so early
