The Phantom Coach in Coventry

We had a very enjoyable breakfast at the Phantom Coach yesterday. It was quite busy and therefore it is a well-liked public house. The food was tasty, well prepared and presented.

Went here for food last night for an annual staff party and the food was fantastic! Really tasty and cooked to perfection. Big thank you to all the staff last night for looking after us :)

The Coffees were good. Shame I got bypassed 5 times by the lone bar staff to serve the locals and Chinese tourists because they had food menu's in their hands! Poor.

Beautiful food i really enjoyed the whole experience once seated. The place is cosy warm with great staff. Really enjoyed my food we will defiantly come back again.

Had such a great experience here. Food was amazing, staff were pleasant, knowledgable & interactive and it brightened our day.

Funeral wake only had coke, but on New Year's day, we had to take four pints back and listen to the poor excuse the boss kept giving, and then 2 other people brought their beer back

Let me start of by saying the food here is absolutely amazing. The food has always been excellent at the phantom and hats off to the chef. Today was my late grandfather's birthday, my family all arranged to meet here for the meal and some Guinness..I can't fault the service and staff, lovely people. We were very disappointed that YOU ADVERTISE sky sports, we chose the phantom for the food and also the fact they offer live sports. We were all very confused and a little annoyed that the liverpool v man united game was not being displayed on any screens. As we have a few liverpool fans in my family we were excited to watch the game before ordering food. No sports or even tv was available... so I asked at the bar if we could watch it... the staff said they would ask the manager... I waited over 10 minutes for the rudest answer ever... the manager eventually comes to the bar and said "the answer is NO". So I questioned why we were unable to view the football. We were told, they don't have a license to display the football. I said it's never been an issue before and was told it's a license issue and that the bar we had reserved is unable to display any live sports as the room is for funerals... okay let me just say I've been a local since a child and way before the current owners were around.. it's just sad that they advertise live sports but don't show it. Staff were fine but also dismissive of the situation as he didn't seem to care. Honest opinion and review: I'm disappointed. Food is the only thing that makes the phantom worth visiting. Not blaming anyone but I have many friends and relatives who agree and no dislike what the phantom has become... it's a confused concept of a pub... No pool No darts They were removed by new owners It seems the pub is focusing on students and creating more of a restaurant atmosphere... just remember it's a pub. The customers pay the bills, no need for the attitude and weird vibe from management when things are questioned. For years since I can remember there was pool and darts, just like every other pub.. why does the manager have the need to remove these fun aspects of the pub? The manager also is never seen, and seems like he doesn't want to be involved. Don't advertise live sports and then say... "THE ANSWER IS NO" "WE CANT DISPLAY FOOTBALL IN THAT ROOM AS.ITS FOR FUNERALS" we are aware. My grandfather's funeral wake was at the phantom, the lounge has never just been for funerals.. if it is now that's fine... but don't stop locals from viewing football because you don't like it. Seriously never gonna waste my time with the phantom after last night, incompetent manager with no care for customers. Food 10/10 Bar staff are amazing 10/10 Came for live sports, didn't show it then didn't care at all when questioned.

We dropped in after bringing our son back to uni after the Xmas break. It was his recommendation as he has visited here quite a lot since being at uni. The prices are excellent, and I was actually expecting some food that had just been heated through for those prices. Very pleasantly surprised by our meals. I had the tandoori chicken with rice, and it was absolutely superb! My husband had the beef rib, and that was also amazing. The staff were busy so there was not much interaction with them but they seemed friendly enough. The only negative thing I would have to say is how cold it was. Granted, it was a particularly cold day (snow), but we did have to keep our coats on while eating.

It was a wonderful evening with music food and Guinness.

Great food at k prices as always going up

Initial welcome was sadly lacking, service was quick, food selections were all available but preferred beer was not. For an 2 days before Christmas, this pub had zero atmosphere and was only about a quarter full. Used to be a lively venue and nearly always busy. This is no longer the case.

Service was friendly and efficient. Food came quickly and everyone enjoyed the meal.

Visited a week after the refurb. Place was packed! Glad I booked a table. Despite the full pub, the staff were wonderful. The warm welcome and being seated within seconds was superb. Ordering was easy, staff were friendly and accommodating to our food preferences. Despite being busy the food was served quickly and our server Sean went above and beyond to ensure we were happy with our food. The atmosphere of the pub was family friendly, no noisy punters, just fun and chatter. The refurb is really impressive and we plan to be back very soon. Would love to see cottage pie on the menu! Thanks Phantom Coach team for making our family evening fabulous.

The new decor and xmas decorations look great. Good service,parking and toilets. Had some drinks and a snack. The hot chocolate wasn't very hot,but everything else was lovely.

We had a lovely meal here last night, reasonably priced and tasty food, would definitely recommend and we would come back again.

Value for money chain pub restaurant. Does what you expect it to. Looks much nicer now post refurbishment. Lads at the bar were lovely and helpful.

Buffet for Geoff’s wake was very good given the large number of people. Staff were extremely helpful in allowing us to use their TV to show slideshow of Geoff and his family and friends

Amended review, visited the Phantom Coach on Saturday 26th and couldnt be happier with the service and food, night and day compared to our previous visit which we have put down to a very unusual one off, on this occaison service was perfect and staff were attentive and friendly, glad to see the Phantom Coach is back to its usual high standard.

We go here often and the food is lovely. We have no complaints our steaks always come as we want it to and food was quick to arrive. I had apple pie and it was lovely, I hate it when I go some where for food and order apple pie or crumble and they bring out a small jug of custard I love lots of custard over my pie which how they served it to me. We also tried breakfast for the first time the other week and the breakfast was lovely too one of the best this side of Coventry, every thing was fresh cooked and they also served unlimited tea and coffee which I though was a particularly plus point for customers. When you see road workers and builders going in there for breakfast you know the place is good and serving good portions at good prices.

It's OK. We chose meals and went up to order but they didn't have any ribs so had to go away and rethink. Had to wait to reorder whilst the barman finished chatting to his friend. Ordered orange juice and lemonade but they didn't have any orange juice. Food was OK, though steak was ordered rare and came medium. Fine for some quick food but only 1 step up from a Wetherspoons.

Nice tandoori chicken, food good, served quickly very good prices they also do meal deals lunch time around £12 for two meals

Thank you so much for dealing with a big number of us during our pub quiz (over 40) staff were really efficient at getting the food to us. They gave us a good section around the corner for it.

Bar service was good, decent meals, a bit quiet unside.

Prices are reasonable but quality is not that good. As you can see from the photo of the salad, the lettuce has turned brown on edges meaning that it was not fresh, probably already chopped and left for a number of days. Fortunately we did not suffer any ill health after eating it. The new apple pie was not presentable as a restaurant dish as the crust on top was all missing. The deep fried mushrooms were overdone so they were hard rather being crispy. Suggest management to work on their food better despite their prices being lower.

Excellent fish and chips, freshly cooked and special offer for two portions. Background music not too loud! Clean and comfortable.

Always rocks. Never been disappointed. Everyone needs a local that delivers value food like this.

Good grub, good beer, good staff, what's not to like ?

No people and you wonder why! Food awful, chef rude could hear him shouting when we complained about an awful sauce that was on the burger! It didn’t state it on the description and it states somewhere else on the menu it comes with a burger sauce which tasted bloody awful. Told them the food tasted bad and we just got stared at. Would not recommend at all. They say in the response below that it was busy because of the football, we got there an hour before and it was very quiet! I didn’t shout and scream, it’s not in my nature. My reaction was a reflection of how we were treated. As like I said when I politely asked about the sauce at the beginning I could hear the chef shouting which was rude. I then went to the bar to ask for the money back. Still got an arsey attitude. Having to speak to 3 different men to get it resolved and Being a woman It’s typical you mention my reaction, not what caused it 😂

Always a brilliant fresh breakfast here. Filter coffee always fresh. Service is quick.

I would not go back here again even if you paid me. The food was poor. The service was very slow and bad. I am not even going to give it any stars.

Visited while on holiday, food was good, great atmosphere and staff, especially Bradley, were brilliant and very attentive. Worth a visit 👌🏻

A weekend away with the wife and had a visit here, more than met expectations. Good atmosphere and prices reasonable, decent portion size too! Bradley was on form with his customer service, will be back on our next visit and would recommend.

Booked table for fathers day. We were placed right behind a large table of 8+people so moved table. Service was quick and food was OK. Abit annoying that people kept going in and out of the doors to garden and leaving it open so smell of smoke blowing in aswell as draft not great.

We weren't expecting it to be as nice as it was 🙈 All the food was served hot & it was very tasty - couldn't fault it. Staff were nice and polite - we'll be back

Burgers were almost inedible, with the patties being tough as shoe leather. There is no table service. Everyone must scan the QR code and open their very slow and not well organized online menu. The folks who brought our food out vaguely waved us toward a table where there were packets of mayo, ketchup and malt vinegar. No salad dressing was offered for my side salad. Needless to say, we will not be returning.

We regularly go to the phantom coach for breakfast it has always been our favourite breakfast. Since being taken over by a new team, it's just not the same. No one greets you and says hello. No one comes and puts the pot of cutlery on your table. No one comes around and asks if your food is OK. Breakfast has just gone downhill and always out of stock on items. So they don't put it on a sizzling plate. Big breakfast states unlimited toast. So while ordering, we tell the guy we would like extra toast. When it comes out, not only is it cold, we only have two pieces. As asked the lady, can we please have some extra toast. 15 minutes later, she brings our 1 slice. Team members just don't seem to be enthusiastic. We certainly won't be rushing back here!

We had a reservation for a table. Upon arrival we weren't greeted by anyone and had to ask someone where our table was. Got pointed to an empty one in the corner that had a card to say it was reserved. Ordered on the app which worked sufficiently. Bit laggy to use and hasn't really had much care put into it. Also, the app asks you for a tip when you order rather than waiting until after you've eaten. Food is decent. Isn't too expensive for what you get. Our food hadn't arrived after an hour and we had to ask where it was. Magically it appeared 5 minutes later. Drinks are what you'd expect however when we went we ordered a lemonade and received water. Went to the bar and they had forgotten to add the lemon syrup (as the lemonade is on tap). The worst part of the experience is definitely the service. No one seems to care about what's going on. Servers running around (and hit the back of my chair multiple times). Couldn't order any desserts as they were short staffed and the kitchen closed early. Overall, not a bad place to eat. We live nearby so a trip there is convenient and just a chance to meet up. Don't go expecting top class service or food.

Lavishly pondered into this fine establishment on a clement Sunday evening. I was flabbergasted and overwhelmed with the exquisite attention to consumer needs on display by members of staff. One particular member of the team that I was amazeballs by their service was one "Molly" whose awe-inspiring team leadership and all-round aroma exudes class and excellence. I will be returning to this magnificent venue

Had a lovely meal although service was quite slow even though the restaurant wasn't particularly busy. We were sat near the kitchen as it was quite a warm evening the kitchen doors must have been open as we could hear the staff shouting and swearing at times. When we arrived I ordered an Aperol Spritz but couldn't have it as there was no ice available, not very impressed as it was the warmest day of the year.

Great food and prices! First time eating here and I had the salmon. It was delicious 😋 Fast and friendly service. Nice atmosphere. Plenty of seating.

Well just had a carry out of a chicken platter and I can honestly say what the hell as happend to the food it has been very good ..this was diabolical. The chicken strips were cooked last week .in fact I think all the chicken was cooked last week left most of it I don't have to think twice about eating here again it will just not happen ..a very disappointed local .sack the (cook) Ray Wilson...

Fine for a bite to eat, but don't expect too much

Went here for breakfast, ordered the big breakfast for £7.99. Service was polite. The food arrived promptly and i was a little surprised it was bigger than expected. Nevertheless it was very nice and polished off in quick time. Unlimited tea as well which was a bonus

If you want pizza then this pub isn’t for you but they have stopped doing pizza

I would like to thank the young gentleman who spent time speaking to the kitchen in respect that my friend is gluten intolerant and found food available on the menu.

The food was lovely and a great atmosphere. Just when we arrived we got told by a member of staff that someone will show us to our table as we had one pre booked and waited for a few minutes and no one came so we found the table ourselves. Apart from that it is good

Delicious food for reasonable prices. Table was nice and clean. Plenty of space during lunch time and the food was served within minutes despite us being a larger group. Will be back for more!

Went there for a late lunch, the person that greeted us was about as charismatic as a limp salad and was obviously too busy to show us to a table but was kind enough to vaguely point it out to us. Tried to order from the table but the web site didn't give the blue light card discount so went to the bar to order. The guy adding the float to the tills had to ask a bar maid to offer me service as she was engrossed on her phone. She was about as friendly and charismatic as the person that greeted us and I had to ask for a glass for the can of Guinness Zero I ordered. The food was okay but the service was absolutely diabolical I'll definitely not be going there again. BUT the gyros had ABSOLUTELY NO CHICKEN. AND if ordering via the table Scan Me it actually asks you if you want to include a tip before you pay for your food. Talk about taking the P. ****After the reply**** Thanks but I've already reached a resolution which is to not visit your establishment again. There are plenty of other pubs and restaurants that will, at least, feign politeness as I spent my money there.

I visited Saturday early evening. My treatment was excellent but, I witnessed a family group being treated very poorly by two staff. It was busy, the family were very respectful. The staff were short and rude to them. The family excused themselves and walked out in the end. I would have also but my order had already been processed. My food was excellent, it was Cheltenham and footy day but, there was no excuse for this treatment.

I do like this place as the staff are friendly and I've been coming here for over 32 years. Recently after the lockdown we decided to have a steak as we've had some incredibly tasty and tender steaks but I think they're trying to save money as the quality of the meat has dropped dramatically. Mother in law went last week and had an awful steak. They're fatty, gristley and quite inedible. Edit: Totally back on form. Had the hallumi fries and they were superb. Definitely had better steaks to serve this time, but you know why I keep coming here is because the staff are great and I mean that. Booked for next week as well. Just wish the price was like this all the time, I'd eat there every night! Edit: 6th March 24 Still friendly staff and the food, in my opinion is better than ever. Steak cooked perfectly with the mixed grill although there's no egg anymore which is disappointing as I like eggs. Please put it back on the menu!
