Beautiful place and friendly staff, but disappointing food for the price. We had the afternoon tea and it generally looked great, but tasted rather average. The vegan option was so bad it was funny - see photo - dry cakes with 'icing' that tasted slightly salty - not in a good way!

Had a great experience tasting wines and cheeses based on recommendations of our lovey waiter Sam "the Venecian". Great place to enjoy some wine in a lively atmosphere.

Summer fritto good. The rest a disappointment as overpriced (very little langoustine in the gnocchi) and staff started setting up for a function very noisily before we had finished. I had memories of a lovely lunch here 2 years ago. As London residents we won't come again. Many other better options in this part of London.

cosy little wine place. Wine selection was good and my favourite is cheese platter (although only two types) and bread. The downfall is they close quite early (10ish).

My wife and I had lunch on Saturday Sept 14, when in London on holiday from Mumbai. Truly awful food and drinks. Aperol Spritz was watery and tasteless, mostly ice with almost no prosecco. The Tortelli (vegetarian) managed to be both burnt and undercooked, spaghetti with mussels was bland and had no taste of mussels. Both of us had mild stomach upsets after the meal. Have been to The Petersham at Covent Garden two times before in the last 5 years, will never come again. Would have complained but didn't think anyone there was interested in feedback.

I tried quinoa and artichoke and I found it both amazing as a vegetarian I would recommend everyone to go there. Nice place and cozy atmosphere.

The food is soo yummy! Enjoyed my lunch there whilst visiting the area. The staff are very friendly , definitely coming back again.

We did the Afternoon Tea. The food is spectacular especially the Pizetta. The highlight was Giuseppe the Manager of the restaurant. He is an exceptional manager and host. Such a warm and respectful person.

A garden restaurant in the middle of Covent Garden, London, very prettily decorated. But sadly all of us had a very disappointing dinner, for a variety of reasons. Worth checking what each option on the menu contains and includes to avoid mistakes.

Pros - beautiful location. Cons - very disappointing food at eye watering prices. Disinterested service. We booked well in advance of our date and arrived fifteen minutes early for our table at the very start of lunch service (12.15). By the time we left two and a half hours later, we had had one poor appetiser (tuna tartare minus its dressing), two very watery paccheri (pasta fine, sauce thin and tasteless), one short rib swamped in a sickly barbecue sauce (managed to eat half once I’d scraped the sauce off), and a cold hake which was inedible and sent back. We waited more than an hour between starter and main and when we chased the food were simply told it was in its way and also that it was busy! Perhaps - but we were some of the first seated for lunch. I suspect our food was just forgotten. The waiting staff seemed untrained. Slow is the kindest way to describe service. Nice but not really what you’d expect in a restaurant that charges so much. We never made it as far as dessert, calling it quits after two and a half hours and some very disappointing food. The manager, Giuseppe, comped the meal but honestly, there’s no way we should have paid for what we had. Incredibly disappointing. Would not recommend.

Only one star because of the Focaccia, which was 12£ and an absolute joke! A very tiny slice of bread, with not much filling... and on top of that a service charge of 13.5%!

Stylish and pretty location. Service was good. Nicely presented but only averagely cooked food. One dish was sent back. Massively overpriced, even by London standards. We will not return.

Went here for lunch for a treat with a couple of friends and was so disappointed with the food. We paid around £13 (including the tip) for a tiny piece of less than average quiche with a couple of leaves on the side! Not impressed. I wouldn't recommend. Lovely location but overpriced unimpressive food.

The Petersham, being the slightly more sophisticated of the two sister restaurants - La Goccia being the other - is more a fine dining experience than La Goccia. In terms of quality of food, service and atmosphere also very delightful. We had a lovely time as well as delicious food there as well. You will have to decide for yourself which you of the two you prefer. Or just make both your favorites - as did I. :)

The place has changed a lot. People is kind and you really feel confortable.

Stopped off here for a cake whilst wandering through Covent Garden. Prices very reasonable considering great location. Service great, staff very polite and had recommendations on what cakes to have. Carrot cake was lovely. Couldn’t fault a thing

This is a pretty restaurant with mixed quality food and extremely expensive. Service was good. Our starters of pickled beetroot and liver parfait were both excellent. Both main course pasta dishes were obviously made from fresh pasta but unfortunately about 30 seconds over-cooked and so had no bite to them. We had one side dish of broccoli which was fine. We had 3 glasses (between two of us) of one of the cheaper red wines at £20 a glass. No pudding or coffee as we were heading for the ballet. The whole experience cost us just over £190 and we came out thinking how did we do that? Not again I am afraid.

Really disappointing charcuterie board. Only 2 types of salami out of a packet, no cheese, no bread, no olives... & expensive...! Don't bother going to The Petersham it's rubbish, it will be very easy to find somewhere better.

I went with a couple of colleagues after work and we had a lovely time. The Restaurant has a beautiful set-up and the ambience with lovely with unique paintings and artwork and dramatic floral displays. The food was amazing, I particularly enjoyed the Chicken Liver Parfait, and my colleague loved the Tiramisu! Service was great and the staff were attentive ensuring we had everything we needed or wanted throughout the meal. It is a great little find off the hustle and bustle of Covent Garden Plaza and look forward to returning in the summer to enjoy a meal in the courtyard area.

Beautiful setting and ambience. I'm afraid to say, the positives rest there. I was recommended The Petersham and booked for my partners birthday. I cannot describe how disappointed we were - the food was mediocre (at best) and was further let down by the service. We opted for the foraged mushrooms as a starter - we were presented with a lot of "nothing" in batter placed in a bowl with paper underneath. Tasteless other than grease and oil. How on earth did this ever pass the test when the menu was devised? Much of the starter was left and we were hoping the main would redeem. Ox cheek - very fatty and flavours were bland. We swiftly declined the offer of desert. The service was poor and the managers response to our disappointment was equally bad. Yes, 10% was knocked off the final bill but nothing could make up for an awful start to my partner's birthday celebrations. Thankfully we found much better restaurants for the remaining stay - Clos Maggiore and Fallow - both of which delivered 200% more than The Petersham. £200 was an awful lot of money to be left so disappointed. Awarded more than 1 star given the lovely setting. Serious attention needs to be given to what is happening at The Petersham - this is represented not only by this review but other recent reviews and other disappointed customers during our visit. Such a shame.

Food was ok, good in general, not worth the price though. The vegeterian options were scarse, and the wine list was again good but overpriced, I know many of the wines and they do not remotely cost that much not even including import and surcharge, there was nothing under £50 and some of them cost 5£ in Italy! The service was one of the worst ever experienced I had to apologize with the friends we had with us . The lady who served us was trying to push the most expensive dishes on us and minimize the size of plates to make us get more. When explaining the menu she gave an explanation of the special and then literally said “I can’t explain the whole thing” adding a bla bla bla here and there when the explanation was too long. When asked about beer or vegetarian dishes again she downplayed them suggesting we would go for something else. She took the wrong order and one of the plate that arrived was uncorrected. When sustituted after few minutes she insisted we tried The wrong one because it was good and “it’s a shame for it to go to waste”. Nicely the restaurant discounted the bill due to the mistake. Also £16 for the bread at the table is a big no.

Nice place close to Covent Garden. Prices are normal and good place for a pit stop.

ILLEGAL SERVICE CHARGE TACTIC operated by “Kaykeigh”! We asked how it was working if sitting at the bench with no service (not at the outdoor served tables). They told me for the benches you need to order and pay at the counter and they would have just brought everything out when ready. Of course at the counter I just paid for the total amount I’ve been asked to pay, without seeing any detail. Then I’ve been told to go back to the bench but I asked to print the receipt as I needed it. Only once back home I realised I’ve been charged DISCRETIONARY service charge without being even asked if wanted to add it! I’m so shocked to see how these days you got scammed so easily with this ridiculous automatic service charge illegally treated as MANDATORY instead. If you are not paid enough money ask your employer, don’t scam your customers!

Thankyou Giuseppe & Nadia for excellent service! You made us feel like we were the only patrons in the restaurant. The food was absolutely Devine. Portions were smaller BUT were very filling and well worth the money! The atmosphere was delight. Fresh flowers everywhere. Very lucky to have dined twice with you this week! My only complaint.,,, I would love a little shop like the Petersham in Richmond to give you more of my $$$. Thankyou again for a lovely lunch & wonderful visit. Nice food and decor. Service was rubbish, waited 10 mins for them to take our order (which they forgot to do, despite serving other groups as soon as they entered). No sugar or spoon provided with coffee and couldn't see any staff members to ask. All coffee is in takeaway cups, even if you sit in. Manager was dismissive and snippy towards us and his staff members who were clearly learning. Not good for the price (e.g. sandwich for £12 with service charge). Go anywhere else nearby, I'm sure it'll be better

Very happy with the food and wine pairing. The interior is beautiful. However, the chairs are not comfortable and the venue is a bit noisy (acoustic). More disappointing, the service was a let down. The cocktails we had ordered for pre drinks arrived together with the first course (with wine). Then there was a long wait for the second course, with wine pairing being poured after the food had arrived. One member of the staff in particular was less than charming, more concerned with himself rather than paying attention to the guests or being a good colleague. Will not go again and not recommend.

Been there with my mom for desserts and had a delightful experience at this charming italian spot in Covent Garden. From the warm welcome by Ioana at the door to Giuseppe's engaging presentation of the desserts, the experience was elevated. Valentin, the sommelier, shared insightful details about the wine while Valentina ensured we were well looked after throughout. Their exceptional service added a personal touch making our visit truly memorable. Our experience was so enjoyable that we're already planning our next return. Thank you very very much!

The chicken aioli sandwich was very delicious and pretty filling. However, the service was really slow as mentioned in other reviews. It took more than 15/20 mins for a takeaway sandwich to be heated although they told me the food will be ready in 5. And the manager was not friendly. Would not recommend to stop by for a quick bite.

The service was lacking. The meal was a new years event and should have lasted till 12.30. The fixed menu for 2 was £400 excl. drinks. That’s not unusual in central London for higher standard meals and service. Unfortunately the cost was not matched by quality. We are Londoners and are familiar with what’s available. So, the food and service fell well short of what was advertised. No NY fizz was offered before 12.00 and then the bill was presented to us, and the music ceased, at 12.02.

The ambience is nice but the cappuccino is too milky and the focaccia is a joke. Overpriced and with hardly any side dish (forgotten burrata and only a ridiculous slice of mortadella)

This is an incredibly pretty restaurant. There is a great choice of cocktails. The winter menu includes lots of options, but we found that the menu didn’t accurately describe the dish, that is to say, there were ingredients or spices which you wouldn’t know were in the dish until you ate it. A restaurant that asks you if you have any allergies should detail all ingredients, this left for some interesting surprises. The downside was the cutlery and the toilets. The first time this has happened to me in a restaurant. The cutlery left off a black mark on your fingers (sort of like when you wear cheap jewellery and there’s a green mark left if you get it wet or have moisture). We raised this with the staff after our mains and when we got our cutlery for the dessert, we noticed the same thing had happened again. It was incredibly disappointing and so strange. Again, if you have an allergy to metals, this would have been a problem. The toilets were disgusting and I’m surprised that a restaurant of that standard and appearance doesn’t have someone actively cleaning and checking the toilets. In the ladies’, one toilet was flagged out of order, one was blocked (you couldn’t flush it at all) and one had wee all over the floor. The taps didn’t really work either. The only nice thing was the soap/hand cream which smelt lovely. Otherwise, I wish I hadn’t needed to use the rest room. For appetisers: Jerusalem Artichoke and Scallop Carpaccio. The artichoke is a shareable dish as there are plenty of foraged mushrooms. The artichokes are few but tasty. The scallop was so fresh and the lemon/garlic sauce was incredible. For starters: Fettuccine and Tortello del are. The sauce of the fettuccine was dry meaning it was difficult to twirl the pasta and you had to ensure it didn’t stick together. Could have done with some more liquid. The Tortello dish consisted of 5 tortellini in a creamy sauce, black truffle and a pungent Parmigiano reggiano. Heavy than expect but packed a punch. For mains: The Petersham Brasato and the Spicy Onion Squash. The beef cheeks were cooked very nicely and fell apart, and pairs with the truffle and jus. The pickled cabbage is definitely a necessity to break up the taste. Again though, a heavy dish. The squash itself was tasty. However it comes with this crispy rice which makes no sense. There are also a lot of fragrant sauces and vegetables on the plate. Definitely not a Mediterranean dish and probably wouldn’t order this again. Desserts: Rum baba and profiterole. The Baba is a classic, the sponge was amazing, the cream was fresh, the strawberries and presentation were a nice touch. The profiterole wasn’t anything special. The pastry was quite plasticky, the cream mid and the sauce was poured over the top and kind of ruined the dish. As this booking was for a birthday, we also received a decorated lemon sorbet crumble. The sorbet was unreal and exactly what you need after many dishes. Would definitely recommend.

Went for New Year's Eve dinner. £170 per person and drinks on top. Not good value for money. Tiny canapé to begin with, then cerviche prawns, underwhelming cauliflower truffle risotto and then hake on mash with no veg. Heavy on salt throughout. Unusual, v chocolatey tiramasu but huge to end with and v rich. Drinks were nice - glass of Italian fizz, IPA beer and 1/2 bottle of soave. Jazz trio playing but finished at 12.02. Then bill presented with a hurried new year greeting. We were not asked in the lead up to midnight if we wanted any bubbles to toast the new year in. Given the evening and expense, we were not made to feel that visiting the Petersham was a special event. Overall, extremely disappointing.

Cena. Ambiente decisamente bellissimo. Arredamento con fiori molto studiato e raffinato. Cibo ho trovato perfetto. Tutto caldo e presentato molto bene. Carne e Carpaccio di pesce buonissimo. Servizio attento, discreto e professionale. Ci vado ogni anno e sono sempre contento. Tavolo rotondo in una bella posizione.

If you want to wait 15 minutes to be able to order and more than 20 minutes to heat a panini, then you are in the right place.

Been going here for years, every year it seems too open later and later. Went by yesterday and ordered a coffee was told I can’t have coffee and needed to buy food as well. Waiter was a complete prick.

We were looking for a higher end Italian restaurant on a busy Sunday Near Covent Garden in London. We stumbled upon this place by chance and boy is it a gem! Our waiter and service was superb, the wines were great and reasonably priced. The foid was unbelievable. I had a braised beef filet that was to die for and Susie had a super pasta dish. The manager Giuseppe came by a couple of times to check on us. And the wine som was also close by to fill our glasses. This is a must try!

Terrible experience I stopped because I saw a display of prepared sandwiches and wanted to eat quickly and go It took half an hour until we got food and we were the only table!!! I got up four times to ask for service The coffee they brought was wrong The sandwiches we ordered came out different and they brought new ones Sleepy and unprofessional staff Bad coffee.

I wanted a decent coffee in covent garden, and while there is a chain on every corner, there are very few good coffee shops. I was very pleased to stumble across Petersham. The coffee was perfect and the staff were friendly and polite. Prices were also very reasonable considering their location.

Not as top notch as I remember in my opinion, with waitress delivering wrong food to table, not know if we’d had our mains and offering dessert twice before we had and then offering me hot water in a milk cup filled to the brim so I burnt my fingers on it.

Sorry this was a big miss for me. The food is horrendously overpriced and, the majority, distinctly average. Disappointingly when paying £40-£50 for dish the waitress should know exactly what the dish comprises. To be fair the carpaccio with grapes was well worth the money but the steak (bland) / monkfish curry (bland) and fish stew was very much not. Definitely not somewhere I will be going back.

Came here two years ago and was not blown away. Decided to give it another try because the restaurant is beautiful and elegant. The staff informed me that they have a new executive chef and let me say : BRAVO. Beef tartare 10/10 , Risotto and Linguine Pasta were outstanding. Monkfish curry is also well executed. Tiramisu is the best i ever had also because its different from the usual ones you find in Italian restaurants.

I took my Italian friend here who was visiting London. I was eager to impress her with Italian cuisine and found this little gem. The food was delicious and we had great table service. The ambience was out of this world. We both felt special and it made for an overall pleasant experience. Highly recommended and will hopefully go back some time soon.

Amazing place! My friend took me here when I was visiting London during a work trip. We were welcomed from very friendly staff who looked after us all evening. The food was so tasty and the wine recommended by the waitress was perfect! The atmosphere and decor is really nice and I thought that for a fine dining experience it wasn’t incredibly expensive especially considering that the restaurant it’s in one of the most famous and luxurious part of London. All in all highly recommended.

Gorgeous little deli that I stopped by while walking through covent garden. I’d heard of Petersham Nursery In Richmond Park so I was keen to try it, and It did not disappoint. Carefully thought of interior and selective menu in the deli was was clearly made with lovely fresh produce. I’m eager to try the restaurant adjacent for a most substantial meal. I just ordered a prosciutto sandwich but it was really nice. Coffee was excellent aswell.

The service here really let the whole experience down. There was very limited to no explanation of the food. The food was very slow to arrive with no explanation or apology. I thought maybe we caught the staff on an off day but my friend had the same experience when she dined with her virgin experience day. Perhaps they don’t like customer who do. It’s a shame because it’s a beautiful venue. The table next to us was so frustrated with the lack of service he actually marched up to the staff counter to pay.

Lovely food but appalling service. A real shame.

The food was poor, the cold pasta inedible. The service was very poor, I had to get up and find someone twice. They avoid eye contact. It felt unmanaged. It’s too small to be comfortable. Tiny tables and food served on tea plates as there isn’t room on the tables. There was water all over the floor because they don’t have water trays under pot plants. My bag was soaked. Very disappointing.

We dined for my partners birthday. Our waiter was warm, friendly and knowledgeable. He recommended the fillet of beef tartare with quails' egg which was one of the best my partner has had! We shared tasty fresh pasta dishes and a quite sublime monkfish curry....

Ottime focacce, non unte, fatte bene, cotte bene, con ottime farciture. Ottime anche le paste fredde. Vini buoni, prezzi adeguati. Per me é un bellissimo posto per una cena casual o un aperitivo!

Had the dinner tasting menu with wine pairing which was underwhelming and very poor value. Some of the wines were swapped without any explanation. The service was also poor, we were not talked through the menu and the wine information given (which was brief at best) didn't always seem accurate. Our first course was replaced and much was made of the alternative been a larger dish. When it arrived we were all surprised by the 3 meagre pieces of vegetable fritto. The remainder of the meal was as per the menu, sadly half were pretty bland. It's safe to say we won't be returning and its not a patch on the original.

I do not recommend this place or the food there !. I had the opportunity to work there as a chef de partie and was treated very badly by the head chef !. Head chef smelly of alcohol, throwing food, boorish, unpleasant, arrogant, very agressive. I do not recommend this place for eating or working !!!. My daughters treated me to afternoon tea at the Covent Garden location to celebrate my birthday. We were very disappointed. The attitude of staff call it arrogance and ignorance can’t be beaten. The water jug was slammed onto the table. No one really was ready to explain the choices. The sandwiches were tasteless- did not get the taste of dill or Chili. Just bland. Despite this we would have loved a glass of Prosecco to finish - did anyone come and ask if we needed anything? Did they make eye contact? There was no connection with the customers. At time of booking my daughter let them know it’s a birthday celebration. Others got a little sth with a candle. Not us. Talking to the manager he did not even apologise or offered a flower posit or a voucher. He could not care less. And my daughters do not complain easily. They both work in the service industry. Don’t go there! If you want to spend money - give it to the artist on the square.

Attended a Sicilian evening of food and wine tasting & it did not disappoint! Petersham Cellar provided a selection of wines from Sicily to taste with a superb sommelier Tariq who gave excellent guidance on each delicious bottle. A stunning venue located in a gorgeous square in Covent Garden makes you feel like you are abroad. Wonderful staff, wine & food! Highly recommend

Afternoon tea in London is a treat. It has to be at the ridiculous prices charged for some sandwiches and cakes. In a lovely setting on a sunny Sunday afternoon what could be better than sitting outside at Petersham Nurseries in Covent Garden for tea? Unfortunately, nothing about the experience food wise, was good. The sandwiches and savouries were below average. The sweet dishes were average. I felt that everything had been bought in rather than made from scratch. No second helpings, no doggy bag, no homemade jam. Glass teapots that let the tea go cold in seconds served in china with nothing to remember it by. All at a whapping £65 per person (including a badly made Bellini). The server was polite and pleasant though. I was taken by my friend who went the following day to tea at the Ritz and told me that for a little more, you get the real thing. My advice Petersham, is stick to selling plants.
