Very slow poor service,a real shame I ordered my food not a big order waiting 20 minutes for a piece of fish to be cooked when told around 7 minutes.A poor elderly gentleman stood waiting to be served this chap walked straight in up to the counter and got served first.Nobody else in shop staff obviously wasn't watching.A real shame as I never use any other chip shop this has always been my go to going back to when it was Big Fry.My partner had gone elsewhere ordered had his food cooked and was waiting for me,resulting in his food getting cold.Poor standard of service.

Cooked in beef fat - we were hoping to have a vegetable burger assuming it was vegetarian until the staff did tell us quickly that it was all cooked in beef fat so we were grateful for them telling us at least. Partner got large cod and chips but sadly it was only just warm so he had to microwave it.

1st time here tonight, boy best sausage and chips in a while. It's definitely worth coming back. Great staff and service.

Needed to find place open for food on a Sunday. This was the plaice (sorry couldn't avoid the pun)

Very busy had to wait which was fine but its quite a small shop so therr wasnt much space. Fish and chips were OK, good value for money. Had a small portion which was still quite large. I would happily pay extra for some proper disposable cutlery. I know chip forks are traditional but it was hard to eat. Amusing cartoons for the kids.

Too much together for the atmosphere, food is a bit greasy but sometimes it isn’t. Service is good but sometimes they are rude

Just eaten here, first time and be last. Seriously awful fish, batter was more like a sponge, and cider was questionable as didnt take like cod, think they using a cheaper fake fish, thick rish skin on it too, bloody awful, the fat its fried in as well stuck to roof of mouth afterwards, and the chips were dry, and no taste at all, no crispness to them, really has to go down as one worst fish and chips, I'm so bloody surprised as to how busy it is by locals, ehesu they must plain palates and do t exfpet much from their food, the cod sizes are so small too, yet charged a lot of money, please dont bother going here. Save your money and stomach, oh staff are so unfriendly too, no smiles no chatting, just misrable looking.

Having just visited to newly opened chicken takeaway in Dereham the Perfect Catch remains my favourite place to go for Chicken and Chips. Traditional in quality served by great staff. Keep it simple, deliver quality. It’s what they do.

Really good chippy. We sat in and had our lunch. Big portions so be hungry if you ask for a large! Could have easly split a normal between 2 of us.

Service slow, food hit and miss

A bit poor, won’t return, served by a young girl who should rather be anywhere else than the chippy. Fish over cooked with everything having a bit of a weird taste

Truly gone down hill in our estimation..chips were all bits and no taste , cod put in paper absolutely dripping with oil , saturated...too long in cooking been to places that fresh cook quicker ..won't be returning anymore as not the first time served poor quality and small portions...

The woman who claims she's the manger/owner is very rude and thinks she's a cut above her customers,, my husband rang n made an order,, when he went to collect, she claimed the call was never made and once proven wrong persisted to then claim my husband had told them to leave it when pulled on this fact she then said my husband put the phone down,, which again was a lie... Once I went to speak to her I was greeted with the same animosity...

Without doubt the best fish & chips we have had for a long time. Tasty chips and Crispy batter on the fish. Very friendly staff and great value for money. We will certainly be returning.

Enjoyed a nice Freshly cooked piece of Haddock yesterday with some chips - pity the, English always leave one side of skin on - in Scotland it's just flesh no skin - makes for a much more enjoyable Fish Supper - but fish was fresh and tasty and a good, sized portion of chips - Servers, were pleasant and helpful 👍

Shocking portion size. I know prices have gone up and portions have come down but seriously. A portion of chips is less than 20 chips! We got 3 portions and each had varying quantities, but only 1 was what I would expect from a portion.

It's over 200 miles from where I live, but I popped in for some food before a long journey with my partner and his nan. We all loved the food and served super quick.

Rarely have Fish and Chips but my god it was soooo nice! Nothing at all greasey and all really enjoyable. Maxine has that business running very well. Staff were all super friendly as well. And NOT expensive! Fab. 😁

Chips, pie, fish and mushy peas all excellent this evening. Queue out the door, as usual on a Friday night. But service was quick and efficient. Prices quite good too. Atmosphere - well, it's a chip shop not a boutique restaurant. But staff were polite and friendly.

been going here 2 to 3 times a month tonight was the worst the chips have ever been firstly the server got the order wrong which we let go called the fryer over to complain about the chips he wasnt very helpful as if to say thats your bad luck the chips were half little crispy bitsthe others were heavy chips as if theyed been there awhile or they had been cooked twice sorry to the people i have told how lovely the fsh and chips are in the past will not recommend them again very poor service

We use this fish and chip shop regularly. Over the years we've tried all the ones in Dereham and this is by far, the best.

Good place for fish and chips, small eat in area too which is handy. The food was cooked fresh, the chips were a little soggy, maybe personal preference. Clean and tidy. Reasonable prices

We travel quite a way to visit here well worth the journey. Today had a battered cheese and onion fryit. Think it was the best one I have ever had. And the staff are so friendly too

"Large" fish isn't. If I order large cod I expect a LARGE cod even if I have to pay more for it. I'm not interested in how much each portion weighs or how much you pay for it. Buy bigger fish portions and charge for them appropriately.

Not the greatest in Dereham at all thought I would try but small portions the fish was meant to be large but it looked small not good at all won’t be going back chips didn’t have colour to them either!

Was served by a young lady called Steph. She was really polite and made buying my food very easy. Would recommend to anyone.

Unfortunately we found the battered sausages greasy and full of pulp. The chips were also lack lustre and not fresh. Pity as we have used this shop before and it has always been good.

Food lukewarm , which is ironic as it was so very dry it seemed it had been under the heater for days. Chips dried up, hard and inedible. Sausage and spring roll exactly the same. Very disappointing

Ordered 2 extra large haddock’s and large chips it was all cooked to perfection,the staff were very friendly and professional and it was well worth waiting for ,will recommend to friends and family .

Awful had a large cod and my gold fish it's it bowl is bigger and its a load of rubbish saying its sold as a large in weight and not size as it was as thin as paper also asked for curry sauce which apparently their didn't have any even though the hot box was full of food and still had 30 mins left of trading which was a shame as the curry sauce probably would of made my meal taste better will never go there again and waste my money

Whenever I order something that I have to wait for to be cooked I always ask if my chips can have salt and vinegar added before the order is wrapped up.....and they never remember to

It's pretty good food at affordable pricing but it's often soooo sloooowwww. When it's busy a 20 minute wait seems normal.

TERRIBLE FOOD. My partner popped in here to pick up fish and chips whilst I waited in the car she bought 3 portions that we decided to take to a relative we where visiting,it was early in the day. So my review is only related to the food so I can't comment on the service etc. But when we arrived at our destination the fish I had was clearly over cooked and had been left for a long time the other fish seemed Oki..ish but the chips where disgusting my partner told me hers where horrible ,,,sorry but owner or who ever cooked these needs a word with themselves £16.00 wasted (the perfect catch)mmmm.... certainly caught us out. I really wish I had taken photos but as I was in somebody else's house eating them I didn't really have the heart to make a fuss.

Just been in and had possibly the worst ‘large’ ‘cod’ I’ve ever been served in a fish and chip shop. It had the texture of a deep fried flip flop. Dry, chewy and thin. Absolute garbage. Waste of money and a waste of space in my bin.

The chips are proper. Not frozen chips!

I have tried every fish and chip shop in Dereham and this is my second favourite. Remember that fish and chips is becoming more expensive now that fish imports from eastern Europe and cooking oil is also in short supply hence higher prices. But my favourite is large cod and large chips. Large chips are enough for two people really but I love chips and it's not often so calories be dammed. However when I first visited here I was told it was cash only this is now not the case and you can pay by Card, very good fish and chips here I have yet to be disappointed.

Fish and chips, never had any problems and have always been of a good quality. Can be a bit of a queue at peak times but that shows its good.

The cod is supposed to be a large its no bigger than 6 to 8 inches long and to crown it it still has the skin on what a waste of fish the fish ain't that bad apart from the size To the owner I didn't really want a story about how everything has gone up in price all I was trying to get across was that to me in my own opinion I thought it was a bit small to be a large to me the 2 pieces of fish we got we thought that you gave us 2 small pieces of fish

Lovely, lovely chip shop! A reasonable sized portion for a very reasonable price. I find the food more filling than other places for some reason, not sure if this is due to food quality perhaps? They also offer scraps. :-)

Delicious fish and chips freshly cooked. Friendly staff and great prices. There's a few tables if you want to eat in and there's usually somewhere to park in the market square at the front of the shop. Nothing bad to say from this happy, regular customer.

The worst chippy in Dereham, maybe Norfolk. Very small portions, very greasy and chips look like they hadn’t been cook. We will not be back.

Sorry to report, very poor. Need to raise the standard. Chips too greasy and sat too long. Smallest large Cod I have ever received and dry. Slow down the production process and make to order. Generally, people don't mind the wait to ensure the quality meets expectations. If you charge for large Cod, provide large Cod.
