Had a quick lunch with my son. Went to Black Swan first but they were booked up until too late for us. Very good meal and service.

Was really looking forward to enjoying an excellent meal - it had been a couple of years since last eating there. I ordered herb crusted lamb. My wife ordered pork belly. I couldn’t eat the lamb. It looked great but was full of sinew and impossible to cut. The pork belly had a thick layer of soft fat and the crackling was soft like leather and not edible.it came with colcannon with bacon but turned out to be just watery mashed potato with cabbage on the side and no bacon. We spoke to the waitress who apologised and said she’d speak to the chef. Nothing was done. We were later presented with the full bill which I challenged and refused to pay for the lamb I’d not eaten. Extremely disappointed in what is considered one of the high end restaurants in this area. Won’t be going back.

Delicious Sunday lunch - or favourite place to go. We arrived later than booked - the staff were very accommodating and did not rush us at all. As always - everything was excellent.

Went here for steak night and was not told about the ribeye not being part of the deal which is not a problem however wasn’t made aware of it. Also all three of us asked for medium rare steaks and they all came out pretty much raw inside nearly blue., when mentioned they didn’t do anything about it and also charged a mandatory 10% commission so payed 37£ for a steak that wasn’t even cooked correctly won’t go again.

A modern twist of a classic building Great staff very attentive, well modelled rooms, enquire food ..even played a piano in the communal area. Can nit wait to stay again

Yet another wonderful dinner and stay at The Peppermill…it really has become a family favourite! Food was fabulous as always with great service from professional and friendly staff. The rooms are great with real attention to the important things..fluffy dressing gowns being just one! Can’t wait for our next visit..soon!

Still without a doubt the best venue in Devizes. Lovely setting and dining room, diverse menu which is very well executed and not ridiculously over priced with additional serve charges like so many venues these days. Stayed in family room which was immaculate. Comfy beds, great linen and a superb superb bathroom with a proper shower. A must if you live in or are visiting Devizes.

Wow where do I start! Me and my boyfriend stayed in the hotel for 2 nights for his birthday treat. The room was absolutely spotless and the beds were super comfy. The staff on reception upon check in were amazing and attentive. We headed down to the restaurant for a celebratory dinner. We both opted for the pork belly and wow😍 incredible! As a special treat on the house the chefs even provided us with a ‘happy birthday’ dessert plate- served with a smile from our lovely waitress. We will for sure be returning for another stay and especially the delicious food!

With my family coming from all the way from America to celebrate their wedding, I knew this was the only suitable place to host their wedding party and it did not disappoint! There was a large group of us in the function room and it was perfect for this event. The function room had its own bar which was managed by the most attentive staff members. We also opted for them to source the buffet food for us and WOW we were all more than impressed. Everything was perfect and I can’t fault anything about that night. A huge thank you to the staff for making it such a memorable evening and we can’t wait to come back for our next big party!

The Peppermill steak night was recommended to me by family who live in Devizes. I came with my boyfriend last week and our meal was incredible! Amazing steak cooked exactly how we wanted it and paired with a lovely red wine. We’ll be making this a weekly treat! Thanks to the staff who were all so lovely

Afternoon tea was lovely. Brilliant waitress was asked if we could change one to vegan (didn't realise we had yo prebook it) & spoke to chef, they made up extra for us! Mocktail Bora Bora was refreshing.

Fabulous stay at The Peppermill. So accommodating. Good room with aircon and lovely hot shower. The evening meal and breakfast were both delicious. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. Thanks so much we had a great evening!

Top quality food friendly staff whi bent over backwards to make it the best birthday lunch ever even brought out a cake I brought from home candles lit the works.

We were 10 - all family who don't see each other very often. We could not have chosen a friendlier place. The service was very good indeed. We enjoyed her company! The food was very tasty and fitted everybody's needs.

This was the most lovely atmospheric, warm venue. My husband and I were there for my birthday dinner. The menu was interesting, we both ordered the most delicious meal. Perfectly cooked and the service was excellent. Nothing will stop me from making this a go to restaurant.

Beautiful rooms and great food! We had an unavoidable problem with other accommodations and the manager came in after hours to save the day and let us book a room. Excellent location near the bus stop to get to Avebury! Would definitely book again if in the area!

Met a friend for dinner. I ordered the only vegan option on the menu, a Korean BBQ broccoli dish. It was £19 and was essentially four pieces of tenderstem broccoli, four bits of tempura batter and some peanut butter. The staff had to be asked to come over to our table, and we had things added to our bill that we didn’t have. I asked if the chips were vegan and I would have them if they were, they said they weren’t and meat or fish was cooked in both fryers. I politely declined them, but chips were still on our bill. It’s a lovely atmosphere and the drinks are good, but our bill for two substandard meals and 4 glasses of wine was £100 and we left hungry. We went to another restaurant afterward for another dinner.

We went for Sunday lunch today and were not disappointed. The roasts were superb, and the fish and chips beautifully cooked. Always good service and friendly staff.

Excellent Food, Best steak I have ever had... Flat Iron 😋😋

I went several times this month, every time there was something off. The first time was breakfast - missing elements to our meal. We also asked for Ketchup, but a delivery driver arrived, was offered a coffee and received the coffee before our ketchup arrived. Sluggish service is a perennial issue here. One of our evening means was incredibly slow service even though the place was suspiciously quiet. We had a slightly sassy waitress, who took a really long time to bring our drinks through the evening. One of the most annoying things has to be how menu price once sat down is different to the internet menu price. The food tastes good. The decor is looking a bit dull. But it is staff that seem to let it down.

No idea about rooms as only went for a drink. Service was very good.

I stay here regularly for business and I can say without doubt this hotel ticks every box The rooms are superb, the food is amazing (I’ve never had a bad meal here) I stay in hotels all around the country most weeks and this place gets 10/10 every time

We use the Peppermill on a regular basis for meeting rooms, lunches and overnight stays for our work. I cannot express how amazing the team are here, they are so helpful and will do anything for you. I'm incredibly grateful that I get to deal with these on a regular basis - they don't get enough credit :-) Food is always amazing and the accommodation is perfect!

My wife and I have a night away every month, whilst my wife’s mother looks after the children. Since COVID we have alternated between Bath and Bristol but having heard good things about the Peppermill we decided to book. We stayed in the bridal suite. An amazing room with a wonderful bed, bath and walk in shower. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive when we arrived and this continued through our dinner reservation. Cocktails were great as was the food. Breakfast the following morning was also one of the best I’ve had at a hotel. We have both traveled allot and I have to say we were incredibly impressed by the Peppermill and we’re very happy to have discovered such a gem on our doorstep. What’s more it was far better value than going to Bristol or Bath and just 10 mins down the road for us. We will definitely be back!!! Adrian & Hannah

We had an incredible lunch here today for my friend’s birthday. I’ve been eating moules for over 30 years and I’ve had them all over the world. Hands down, the moules marinieres that I had at The Peppermill today were the best I’ve ever had. Plump, succulent, fresh and flavoursome with the richest and creamiest sauce, offset perfectly with salted skinny fries which were divine when drenched in the cream. Highly recommend - amazing quality food and great service. Thanks folks x

Unfortunately a below average experience for an overpriced menu. The food itself was nice but for the price you expect a little bit more quality that simply wasn't delivered. The service really let the experience down. The two waitresses were incredibly grumpy and made the dining experience a tad awkward. They walked past the table with their heads down to avoid having to make eye contact with us. If you fancy a nice cocktail then this is the place to go but unless you want to feel like an inconvenience this is not the place for dinner.

My husband and booked for a now night stay at The Peppermill Hotel to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. Had read good reviews before booking. We were extremely disappointed with the presentation of our room! The room had not been cleaned thoroughly and the shower room was appalling! Not just dirty, but one of the shower doors was off the track, so we were unable to open the doors to get into the shower. There were so many reasons why the presentation of this room was unsatisfactory to be booked out, but these are just some of them. The hotel is 5 Star rated by AA. Our room definitely wasn't!! Complained to the owner who said..it seems our two ladies have been rushing through their work to get rooms ready. So my question would be.. what about the maintenance?

A nicely presented restaurant with very friendly staff and an interesting menu. Mains were well-cooked and delicious, but desserts were a bit disappointing.

Had a wonderful stay at The Peppermill hotel in Devizes. The owner Phillip was the perfect host and made us feel completely welcome. 4 of us had a fabulous meal before 2 of us retired to our large well appointed double room with the most comfortable king sized bed. The breakfast was excellent. I had the full English which was very tasty. Special mention to the hotel staff who were engaging and very helpful. I look forward to a return visit.

Welcoming and warm privately owned hotel. Excellent food, good wine list and very well equipped comfortable rooms. A revelation that such delightful hotels still exist in England.

We were a group of twelve and had ordered our meals ten days in advance. Four of us ordered poached salmon Salade Nicoise and were told on arrival that no salmon was available except smoked salmon which only one of us wanted. Four salmon steaks should have been kept for us as we had ordered in advance and with Sainsburys and Marks & Spencer Food open just round the corner, we would have been happy to wait a few minutes rather than be offered roast beef instead. Won't be going there again

Charming and friendly staff and very good food, well cooked and nicely presented

I have eaten in many restaurants over the last 2 years, for different reasons, and this has been one of the best. The menu is limited which means it's fresh and not out of the freezer and microwaved. Quality is perfect as are the portions. So many restaurants offer too many options and work on the basis that huge portions will make the food better. WRONG. The trout was perfectly cooked and the pannacotta had a perfect wobble. Wine list is excellent. I didn't stay there but I suspect the rooms will reflect the quality of the restaurant. Highly recommended. Thanks for a great evening. Experienced staff with good knowledge of both menu and wine list.

Had great expectations of the food as the hotel room was fab (see seperate review) but food just okay rather than great!! We booked for late dinner which meant our food choices were limited due to high demand (3 or 4 items sold out) but we opted for a shared Camenbert cheese (very good) and then the Rib Eye Steaks (chips, mushrooms and side salad), nothing whatsoever wrong with food but nothing that made it stand out (especially at £34)!! Just my opinion but without sauce the steak dish is quite plain, a colourful salad could help!! Other areas: the restaurant is clean, the decoration great, serving staff very good, atmosphere good, location good. Overall I'd say it's worth a visit, we may just have been unlucky with our timing.

We enjoyed an evening meal and cocktails which were beautifully prepared and food which tasted as good as it looked. There is a warm and inviting atmosphere and we were served by a very professional young lady called Libby who knew the menu and was able to talk to us During our dining experience. We certainly would recommend the venue. Delighted to have had such an enjoyable evening. Also a superb selection of wine, a personal preference would be to see slightly more English varieties available. With that said, we had an excellent English sparkling. Thank you for an excellent evening.

Eaten here many times and is always somewhere we consider for a special occasion. Never been disappointed with the quality of the food even though there has been a few changes in chefs over the years. However we have had some disappointing evenings with service but tonight was spot on, 100 per cent improved, so we really hope they keep that up as it certainly would entice us in more often. Going on tonight’s experience would highly recommend.

We visited for an event. Manager and staff were outstanding. Looking forward to returning! Have since dined here three times. Though there is some strange confusion with the wine list... changing supply? ...the food is very good and the "skinny fries" may have been the best french fry I have ever had. Perfect!

My daughters treated me to an afternoon tea at the Peppermill. After emailing with them booking 3 weeks in advance got there to find no booking. The staff did everything they could to sort it out. The afternoon tea was mediocre at best for the cost, really quite poor. I wrote to the manager rather than putting anything on social media but no response, disappointing to say the least, just like the food. So many other great afternoon teas in the locality which are nicer and better value.

Had my wedding there at the weekend, owners were really great and ensured everything was going well and went out of their way to help. Rooms was lovely and food was great. Couldn't have asked for a better place to get married or to stay.

Recommended by my daughter, went with friends for an evening meal. Service was very good and welcoming. The food was exceptional, all of our party really enjoyed the food. Highly recommend, will be going back.

Good main meals, nice pudding, staff very polite, room abit small. Price no too expensive but not cheap either.

Came for dinner, left very happy. Food was absolutely stunning, everyone's was cooked to perfection, well presented and the quality of the meat & sauces was just next level. Especially the Guinea Fowl, which I had. I can't wait to come back to try some of the other dishes. Service on the other hand was slow and inconsistent - the staff were absolutely lovely but potentially there were not enough front of house to service all of the customers as plate collection was fairly slow and we did have to wait on drinks. Really think this is a numbers issue though as your staff seemed very busy all night and I could see other tables getting frustrated too. Although we didn't ask for it, there was no water for the table either, which I think would be a nice touch. All round fantastic though and would definitely come back.

What can I say, from start to finish my visit here was exceptional. I arrived mid-week, my 2nd out of 3 stops for the week, and already feeling tired. The owner welcomed me, checking me into a room far surpassing my expectations, a truly inviting space that made it hard to come away for dinner. I am so glad I did though, Wow, my mouth exploded in joy at the Handmade parmesan and rocket gnocchi, I could easily have eaten it twice over, it was THAT good! I slept like a baby and had the most indulgent rainmaker shower to wake up the weary bones. Breakfast was the perfect start to another day, before work and the next leg of travels. A firm Devizes favourite now! Thank you, everyone, for making life on the road so enjoyable.

The hotel is lovely. The rooms have been restored to include everything you need from a hotel. The food is fantastic. Highly recommended, we will be back.

Dined here with a party of 15 or so. Menu was expensive but worth the extra. My flatiron steak was ordered rare and was served beautifully so. It was accompanied by very good chips, some mushrooms and salad garnish. Dessert was the apple pie and ice cream which was equally delicious and this was washed down with a cappucino. The red wine served was ok, nothing special, not sure whether it was the house stuff or not but it was passable. A really good meal, just glad I wasn't paying 🙂

Tried here for our Christmas lunch will definitely be returning. A variety of dining areas. Good food, pleasant service. Parking is always a bit of a challenge in the town during work hours, but not too difficult.
