Took wife and toddler niece for lunch which was booked in advance for 12.30 - we arrived at 12.20. On arrival staff were friendly but informed us that "there could be a short wait for food as the chef is new and still working out where everything is." We decided to go ahead as there was plenty of space and it wasn't busy etc...and swiftly ordered - a club sandwich for me, my wife ordered a pie and some fishfingers for the toddler - and we took our drinks to the table. We then waited for almost 90 minutes - there was no word from any staff on the ongoing wait - no apologies, no free drinks or refills, no updates on when we might eat anything. In the end the toddler had become very unsettled and hungry so we had to leave and get a refund - no apology was offered to my wife when we went to get our money back. We hadn't ordered anything fancy - just a sandwich and a few basic items which could be warmed in a microwave or on the grill. I do appreciate we were warned in advance that there would be a wait, but once an hour had passed I would have thought the staff might want to extend some hospitality to guests with young kids - as it was I felt the staff were all very busy flying around but without a clue what they were doing and nobody wanted to speak to us. As it was so late when we left we had missed a lot of other pub lunch lunch services elsewhere so ended up getting a McDonalds drive through! As a big chain Marstons should not be offering a lunch menu if it can't deliver food for a 12.30 booking within an hour - and should certainly not be taking bookings if the staff aren't able to do a normal service. I will not return here again - I will take my trade to smaller independent pubs which rely on being consistent

The carvery was amazing. Choice of 3 different meats, good selection of veg and the best roasties, ever! Staff were lovely, pub was clean. I just need a bigger tummy for next time.

Visited with the family Friday afternoon. Ordered drinks and food and was very happy to be told it was two Moretti for just over the price of one! Food was great , staff were great with my elderly Dad and the kids. Didn’t realise there was a was carvery on Sundays so will most certainly be back to try that. Had Philly steak baguettes and chocolate fudge cake, absolutely great

We visited here for a family celebration. My daughter received a phonecall on the morning of our visit to say it was carvery only that day. We were disappointed but thought it was probably because they were expecting to be busy as it was St Patricks day. However that wasn't the case there were hardly any customers in there and the service wasn't very good at all. The food was just 2 choices of meat they had run out of stuffing for the day?? At 1.30pm?when they had Turkey on??. The Yorkshire puddings were flat and undercooked the carrots were so hard I had to leave them. It wasn't very nice and certainly not worth £12.99. The lad who served our carvery kept apologising that he had never done it before he had been thrown in at the deep end, it wasn't his fault he did his bestas he had to serve behind the bar in between too. It was a shambles and at 3pm they had a handwritten scruffy sign on the door saying no more food served that day. It was as if all the qualified staff had rang in sick and they had got random people to try and run the pub for the day. We certainly won't be going that pub again to be honest if it wasn't for a family celebration I would have left after the first drink and skipped the so called carvery.

We went to the peppermill in longton with people we support the lady who served us libby was very accommodating and friendly made us feel very welcome and could not make us feel more welcome lovely lady lovely atmosphere great place to go highly recommended

For Mother's day myself and my family booked in here for a meal. Some of us travelled from North Wales. Being a regular vistor to a Marstons pub locally, where we eat regularly I thought it was a safe bet to book this one. How wrong was I . We all decided on carvery. The meat was dry. The server placed our Yorkshire puddings on plates with his hand ! The cauliflower cheese, well that was just cauliflower with grated cheese sprinkled on it. The server said he'd been fighting with it all day !! Well I think the cauliflower won. The carrots were soggy and barely warm, the mash had a crust on it you had to break through and the roast potatoes had been deep fried and were inedible. My dad's beer was warm and cloudy (goblin golden) no Pedigree available. Most of us left a large amount of food. We had a refund for 1 meal. Both my self and my elderly father were quite ill that night and a couple of days after. You certainly don't need to eat indian food to get Delhi Belly. A couple of the staff were rude and didn't like the fact that we complained and stood behind where we were sitting discussing it with family members and other staff . Overall it was a shambles to say the least.

Came for mother's day. The wine is so over priced £18.50 and that was the house wine. The carvery was shocking we were at the bar paying and other people come to ask for a refund before they even went get the food. We carried on because it would have been to late go anywhere else. The meat was over cooked the roast were frozen ones the carrots were still dirty and the peas were very dry. The service was not the best I will never go again .

Terrible!! Carvery selection very limited which wouldn't be so bad if it was good quality. We had intended to come for the carvery but after seeing it we decided against it. We came for Mother's day and my mum decided to try it .... bad mistake. Carvery server picked the yorkshire up with her hand and plonked it on the plate - no gloves or anything! The pub was pretty deserted and still many items not available from the menu. No cutlery on the tables. Had to return a pint of Hobgoblin Gold as it was cloudy and tasted off. Ordered a single Gin and they poured a double with "pressure" to pay for it. Mushy peas cold with the Fish. Steak and ale pie came with a gravy jug with a layer of "skin" on the gravy. No southern fried chicken vailable for the chicken burger. Ordered a rocky road sundae and advised there was no chocolate ice cream but it could be made with strawberry and vanilla so decided to give it a whirl.... it came and had no chocolate sauce or chocolate brownie so essentially £5.99 for a scoop of vanilla, a scoop of strawberry and some squirty cream and marshmallow 😳. We had to wait 20mins for the pleasure! Would have given zero stars if this was an option. We only came here as we left booking somewhere for mother's day till the last minute and there was 9 of us.... its no surprise there was availability here!! It's not as if the prices reflected the quality - relatively expensive too.

We had not here for a while but as we were mailed an offer we thought we would give it a try. Booked a table online for saturday night however on arrival we were told to sit anywhere , the pub was almost empty and had no atmosphere. Tables were left uncleared and staff was very minimal. There was no pepsi max on the bar and the place looked very run down. The food however when it came was ok, but we would not be returning anytime soon even with an offer there are definitely better places to eat.

We used to visit on a regular basis and as we had some vouchers for 30% off we thought we would give The Peppermill another try but we were very disappointed especially after my wife and daughter and myself made the effort to go out on a wet evening. Premises run down with thread bare chairs and after reserving a table told by a member of staff to just find a table (the place was empty) and if the table needed cleaning to let them know! Ordered food at the bar from sticky dirty menus and was told they did not have any desserts (which we found strange at £5.99 each) and was limited to only one brand of hand pulled beer as all the rest were off. We asked if they had any servettes as there was only one on our table for four and none on any other of the tables to be told "I will have a look to see if I can find any". Meals delivered to table and I can see why there was 30% off, poor burger and fries at £11.99 which was tasteless and bland and two Hunters Chicken which were over cooked and like rubber. We did not stay any longer than necessary after finishing our meals as when we left there were approximately six people in total in the pub in total. There was only one member of staff who had any sort of customer focus who was the gent in the white shirt waiting on tables who was very pleasant and helpful. What I find really annoying is we made the effort to come and support your business to be let down by poor food, dirty rundown premises and staff who appeared to have no interest in their job and it was all too much trouble to even find some servettes and bring them to the table as promised. I will shortly be leaving a review on Trustpilot as I do not think people should be subjected to such poor standards, quality and service.

Absolutely terrible experience. Booked a table as was advised on the website, walked in and stood by the ‘please wait here to be seated’ stand for at least 5 minutes until bar man stated to ‘sit anywhere duck’. Sat down near children’s corner- felt tips pens, books and jelly sweets scattered all over the floor. Ordered using the app (menu more extensive than the table copy with more options?) ordered 2 adult mains and 2 kids meals, also ordered drinks. Food came out within 5 minutes- fish and chips was a fantastic portion size and mainly good, batter slightly undercooked but a lovely piece of fish. Kids nuggets and chips also nice apart from we had chosen the option of veg sticks, for both, to have a tomato cut into chunks on the side of the plate???? I ordered vegetable chilli on a jacket potato- if there was a tablespoon of chilli sauce that would be an over exaggeration.- we had to ask for cutlery and waited 5 minutes for drinks, which we were then told they don’t go through with the food on the online order? So we had to request them at the bar (by which time the food was going cold). Kids fish fingers I would avoid- on the inside o the fish was Grey colour so didn’t allow daughter to eat. We were unable to explain or discuss this with any staff member as there was one man on the bar serving drinks to queuing customers- no other staff were around and so we left after 10 minutes of waiting!! Very disappointing experience and it wasn’t a cheap meal really - 2 mains, 2 small kids and 4 drinks at £50.00. Will not be returning!

Wow, where do I start?! Went as a family of 4 for dinner and hardly anything left on the menu! No onion rings, mixed grill, brioche buns, pineapple for gammon, chips (had to have fries), cask ale, correct glasses for drinks. The list literally goes on…. Walked in and the atmosphere was strange. Literally 2 tables in on a Sat evening apart from us that was all so maybe we should’ve seen the signs in hind sight! Food came within literally 5 mins of ordering which was a strange sign! Probably all sitting under the pass ready to serve! Not fresh at all. Hunters chicken were cold and curry was disgusting! When we complained to the manager who strolled downstairs in her normal clothes she was in denial and said “they hardly ever have complaints” and that they had “been busy all day”. Even though the menu was limited, we weren’t complaining about that even though we were not advised when ordering, however the lack of quality of food produced was poor. Embarrassing! In the end they actually closed the kitchen as it was more pain to keep putting the staff through! All tables were complaining near us. Looking at past reviews, they’ve had no mixed grill and limited stock since 2023, so what the manager told us was total bull and couldn’t give a monkeys in all honesty! Said she’d been running the pub since Nov 2023… well, if I were her, I’d give it back or just board it up cus that’s where it’s heading! Seriously, if you’re hungry, head to the maccies just up the road… don’t waste your time here!!

If I could give 0 I would. Absolutely disgusting food, chicken was cold (wouldn’t be surprised if we all end up with food poisoning), popadom tasted like soapy water, lack of food available from the menu, beer awful and no cask ale in a Pedigree pub!! Arrived at the pub with a table booked for 4 and just advised to sit anywhere as there was only us and another table in there at that time. When we went to the bar, we tried to order a pedigree - not available, we then tried for a Hobgoblin - she went to pull it and nothing came out, we then just asked for any available larger to save the embarrassment. Upon ordering the food, we ordered a chicken tikka masala and they advised there was no rice other than coconut rice (which wasn’t even on the menu) and no naan, so we asked for extra chips to be told they only had fries. We then ordered 2x hunters chicken to be told there was no onion rings or bacon, and then gammon to also be told there was no pineapple. When the food came out (which only took about 3 minutes), the chicken was cold throughout and left two of us worried to eat it. The curry did come with a naan however it was as hard as a rock, and the popadom tasted like soap. Surprisingly the gammon was edible, but still not worth more than £5 for the meal. I can’t believe the total bill would have been nearly £70 - it was absolutely atrocious, completely inedible and cold!!! When we brought this to the attention of the team leader on duties attention she advised they hadn’t had the delivery and just to complain to head office at Marstons. To be honest, I wasn’t moaning at the lack of food but what was produced and put in front of us - the lack of food just then tipped this whole situation over the edge as a complete joke. Management then came down from upstairs as I pushed for a refund and explained that she was shocked at the complaint and it had been really busy and she normally gets positive reviews. This is complete and utter rubbish, the pub was dead and every single table was asking to raise a complaint for get money back. This pub needs some major TLC or just a bolt to lock the doors for further disappointment.

Do not understand what's happened to this place recently. Either don't have it, something is missing or it's cold. Windows will be boarded up soon enough at this rate

Under New Management.. New Chief..Definitely worth a visit...food cooked to perfection..Staff very welcoming and helpful nothing to much trouble.. Highly recommended .. Even have a pool table and Dart board arriving soon and other community based projects

We waited an hour for one meals, and then 45 minutes extra for the other three that were cold. The service was horrible and the kitchen staff messed up all 4 of the orders. Will not be coming again. Only one of the staff members that we spoke too was respectful.

Went to try their Thursday steak deal & very good it was too. The new staff / owners are friendly and accommodating. With a little tweaking, they should do well. We made a reservation online and it said to wait by the door to be taken to our table. However, eventually, staff who were sitting down just told us to find a table ourselves, which we did. Try it and give them a chance.

We had a lovely meal while waiting for our car to charge (if you're an EV driver then head here to charge). Staff were very friendly, restaurant/pub super clean.

Half the food on the menu was not available our starters were bought out half way through eating the mains after being told the starters had not gone through the till so they were put in a take away box. The carvary was not available to be told it's only on at weekends (it was Saturday) .won't be back this is the second time we have experienced this lack of food and poor service .

Went for usual sunday lunch. Very under staffed but manager and all staff rallied around to make sure things were right.....even putting up with some impatient and abusive customers. Well done to the team today. Food and service as good as ever.

Visited on Boxing Day with a group of 10 people. Wasn’t aware when we got there that is was carvery only as I had booked the mains menu. In the end that wasn’t a problem. The carvery was outstanding and very generous amount of meat added by the friendly server. Potato’s and good choice of vegetables which were beautiful and hot. The chef even went out of his way to cook us 30 pigs in blankets which we asked if they could do for us. They were excellent as well. Good choice of drinks and very friendly bar staff and all staff which I saw were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend and I will be visiting again for sure .

This place has really gone downhill, so we won't be coming back. Food came out randomly and cold with items missing, two of our party got their food after we had finished, even though every time we asked it was 'on it's way'.
