Ordered a takeaway from here took over 2 hours and 3 phone calls to arrive, after arriving the chicken chow mein was bland and hardly any chicken was in it and the chicken that was in it was not cooked in a wok it was pure white taste of nothing so I assume that this was out of a frozen bag and microwaved and thrown in afterwards, the BBQ sauces at £2.50 a pot was only half full, been ordering here for a year but over last 5 month it has gone down hill food taste of nothing won't be ordering from here again

My go to local Chinese. Almost every Friday. Does follow all the instructions and never goof up. Been three years and not a single mistake.

Had a large order as had the family over . Peony is always lovely . Everyone commented how nice it was . All hot and taste great

Nice food, swift delivery. I ordered on line but wanted to customise my order so called them. It arrived exactly how ordered - the chips here are a little dry but everything else was lovely!!

Very quick, efficient service. Lady at the counter was really busy taking phone orders, but not too busy to give me a friendly smile and a “just a minute” sign. After about 1-2 minutes, in which she probably took three phone orders, she took my order. I probably waited maybe all of 10 minutes to get our food. Took it back to the rented apartment, where it was still piping hot! Scale of 1-10..about an 8. Would definitely go again (visiting from Texas).

Always arrives earlier that estimated. Always hot and tastes really good. And you can't go wrong with free prawn crackers.

Always has been pur go to Chinese. However once forgot to send our order. Phoned after an hour and half only to find they have missed it and had to wait another 40 mins. Ordered again thinking it was one off and we received our our after 1 hour 40 mins and it was nearly cold. Think we will be looking for a new Chinese takeaway.

Very good food quick service generous portions

Despite them not delivering to our address, this is our go-to Chinese takeaway. We are happy to drive to collect, even over any of the Chinese that do deliver in our area. Must have ordered from here about 10 times now, and the food is ALWAYS hot and so tasty. The food is always prepared quickly, never have to wait around for collection, the staff are friendly.

Ordered over 2 hours ago and still not arrived! Phone line constantly busy and no contact from them. Won't be ordering from them again!

Online order took over 2 hours 15 mins. Phone constantly engaged. Told 40 mins ago would be 10 mins. Gone really downhill. Was our favourite for last 10 years. Won’t bother again. Very disappointed.

Online order estimated time but they where 30 mins late phoned them to be told on its way when arrived it was freezing cold.

This place has massively gone down hill over the year with poor compliance to delivery times and orders being incorrect. Shame, as the food is usually really nice.

Just ordered food from here, live round the corner come home to serve it food was stone cold chips were rock hard. Asked for a refund, only would give me a refund if I gave them all the food how it came :/ never ever going here again

Ordered from here last week after maybe a year or two…. Was a great Chinese!! Hot, tasty and fresh! Ordered again tonight and again it was piping hot and totally fresh. I order my dishes extra spicy as I like hot food and both times I’ve not been disappointed … the dishes come with the extra kick I like! I’ve heard it has been taken over so anyone not sure on this place now, should defo give it a try. Will continue to use peony the whole time they continue to deliver quality food

Probably great standards in mainland China. However. Rear door to the establishment is 1 metre from the cooking and preparation surfaces. It's open all afternoon with no fly screen. The risk of contamination is significant. If you want a fortnight off work then this is the place for you....

Very poor service. Ordered at 6.20pm, still waiting at 7.50, so called to be told the order hadn't even left!! Requested a refund and see was told it be would be a couple of days. Not a happy customer

I like it here. I live a few miles away but I travel here as the food is decent and not cheap tasting. The lady is very busy behind the counter but is warm and welcoming

I’ve ordered many times from here in the past. Lately over the last 2 months it’s been delivered , tasted then thrown in the bin due to being inedible

Ordered a takeaway it the phone at 6.30, was told it would be 1 hour / 1hour 15 mins. Phoned at 8pm to see why it hadn’t been delivered, was told it was on its way. Phoned at 8.30 still waiting ! Arrived at 8.40 , the food was cold. Won’t be using Peony again .

Food not bad but waiting 2 hours for the delivery is unacceptable. I won't be ordering again.

Been ordering from Peony on and off for about 5 years but can't say it has been great every order, some really good others not so.

First time we have ordered from here and will definitely be doing it again. Food arrived hot, very polite delivery driver, and the food was lovely, cannot fault.

Recently moved to the area. This takeaway is always very busy Fridays and Saturdays so you may have to wait a while for a delivery. Food is really nice. I have not had a bad meal and order regularly. Lovely staff too.

Terrible food ordered special fried rice didn't even looked liked the rice had seen the inside of the wok white and anaemic, szechuan chicken had no spice ordered from there a while ago and was good but not tonight will never order from there again awful for the price

We pre-ordered on the 30th December for New Years Eve. I’m not going to comment on the delivery, it’s already been covered by others and for this review it wouldn’t be fair because it was NYE. My family were staying over so we decided to keep it simple we’d have Chinese. As you do, we all ordered something different and a load of extras. Now this is NYE, probably one of their busiest nights of the year. The food was superb. Excellent. Outstanding. Every dish was plentiful, flavoursome, delicious and hot. We really couldn’t fault it. This is my local Chinese takeaway, and I’m lucky to have one this good, this close.

Had a phone in take away from The Peony last night to celebrate New Year . It was excellent generous portions and very flavoursome. There is obviously "New management" there and they have brought it back up to standard.

Ordered food via website at 6pm. 20.10 called as still waiting. Told out for delivery. 20.40 called again, told out for delivery but could not tell me when. 21.15 called again, told it will be another 30 minutes, obviously never was out for delivery or even cooked. No apology. Cancelled order. Terrible customer service.

Our online order tonight was delivered SO quickly, my partner rated the ribs(and he's fussy) and at long last a Chinese takeaway that serves rice noodles...and so delicious (chicken and pork). I love noodles but they don't love me so it means so much to be able to order Chinese with my partner and not have to have rice. Thankyou, thankyou we will order again and again.....

Ordered online as per usual. Food arrived on time. However, they missed some of the order out. Rang them and they asked me to hold, I was on hold for 20 minutes. During this time I got in my car a drove to the Chinese, i was still on hold when I walked in there. I basically got told the girl answering the phone couldn't speak English very well, they then said the delivery driver is on his way to my house, which if they had come back on the phone and told me that I wouldn't have driven there. All in all a waste of nearly 60 quid and ruined the dinner. Not the first time either. Told them I won't be using again.

Best Chinise around, lovely food, and delivery drivers are very fast delivering, if you tip them they never forget and make your order a priority next time :)

Rubbish attitude and the food was not much better very basic Chinese food

Been using Peony for approx 5years when I tried to order a home delivery this evening was told cash only who carrys cash now a day's?? So guess what no Chinese = no supper 😞😪😪

Ordered on their website as thought it would be priority delivery. I was mistaken. Ordered at 6:05pm. It wasn’t until after I had processed and paid for my order, I was told it’d be almost 2 hours for delivery. 8:30pm came and still no delivery. Called and was told that it’d be another 15-20 mins. Finally arrived cold and bland. Will never use again and would advise anyone who wants decent delivery times with hot food to order elsewhere.

My son recommended Peony so thought we'd try them out. Ordered online at 6.05pm, their online ordering doesn't give you the opportunity to request what time you want your food, they tell you in the confirmation email which said our dinner would be delivered at 7.50pm. At 8.15pm I rang to see where our food was and was told it would be another 15 mins. We wanted dinner not supper so we won't be using Peony again. Having to wait over 2 hours is not acceptable albeit the food was hot. Just wish I'd read the reviews first. Poor customer satisfaction.

Waiting 2 hours for food is not good enough! Why are you so incapable of delivering in a timely manner? All of your competitors manage it! Sort it out! Its embarrassing!

I arrived late to order the house special fried rice and was greeted by rudeness and other staff intimidating the owner in the main room. The meal lacked any decent meat with an over cooked un- chewable dried beef , 2 pieces of chicken and 4 king prawns along with I presume a few left over fried rice from the evening servings. This has to rate as the worst meal I have had from a Chinese take away, this is especially sad as this was where I had my first ever and regular meal thereafter growing up in the early 70’s. My advice is avoid at all costs.

Website far to complicated lovely food

This is the second time I have ordered and certainly the last both times I ordered I asked for the duck to be shredded and both times got unshredded duck it even came with the bone I do not recommend this place it is completely outrageous I waited 1 hour and a half I was starving 🤬🤬 and now I have to cook for myself !!!

We've ordered tonight for what will sadly be the last time. If you're thinking of ordering, heed the reviews regarding delivery times. It's now 2 hours 15 minutes since we ordered and no sign of food. Called 20 minutes ago to be told it's on the way - we're a 6 minute drive away. The restaurant must be taking more orders than they can handle - I'd much rather be told I can't order than wait 2+ hours for what is now the 3rd time. Very poor

Waited over an hour to get a call from the delivery driver telling me I have to leave my kids in doors and meet him in the car park 🙄🙄 sorry but is that how you deliver food now.. Still waiting for the food now 3 days later

Food just never arrived... Save your self the hour of disappointment and order some where else.. Looking at the reviews this ain't the first time

I have been using them for the last 20 years since the beginning of the this year trying to order from them by phone it took last night 200 calls to get through and their order on line dont work and they keep getting my orders wrong or the forget somthing i tryed to phone back it to 50 phone calls to get through again finally got throught to tell them they forgot something they said come down and pick it up very poor service very rude on the phone i will never use then anymore its a shame the food is great

So yesterday I thought I’d try Peony for the first time. I was going to order online but you couldn’t choose a delivery time so I decided to ring them. I rang them instead at 5:35pm; and the first thing I asked was what time it will arrive and was told 45 mins to an hour but they’ll try to get there for more like 45 mins. So I decided to go with them as wanted it by approx 6:30. I rang at 6:50 and I was told abruptly it was on its way. Then at 7:10i had a phone call to say that there was a problem; the delivery driver had broken down by Asda, and the manager was remaking the food and delivering it himself and that it would be with me 10-15 mins; and kept repeating they were remaking it. I asked if I would get a discount and I was told the manager was remaking it himself and the delivery driver had broken down as though he was doing me a favour so NO discount for it arriving after 2 hours! And also... I was very concerned that it was a 10-15 min drive but yet my entire order was being remade in this time as well! Anyway, when the guy arrived he was very flustered and apologetic and said he’d not been able to get hold of the driver! He took off £1 off my meal (30 instead of 31!) but actually his attitude when he arrived saved him a star! But I won’t return as the food was just average.

Pay for delivery but doesn't get delivered to my door is a mockery especially when it turns up cold

The food is always nice and delicious but the service is unfortunately what let’s it down. For a delivery to take over two hours from ordering is terrible! (Was over 30 minutes late).I understand Friday and Saturday evenings are busy but an explanation or phone call to say the food is going to be late would be appreciated. I’d rather be turned away and told they’re too busy and can’t accommodate us then have to wait around all night for my dinner.

Awful service. We use Peony once a month. The past 2 times we have ordered online and received confirmation but payment had been debited twice. Had to call both times and sort it out. Turns out it is an issue with their website. Ordered at 6pm tonight online. Told our order would be with us at 8.05pm. At 9pm it hadn’t arrived and not a word from Peony. I called them and was told it would be another 15 minutes. When I asked why it was over an hour late and has taken over 3 hours to receive an order I’m told it’s because of the amount of orders they have taken. Here’s a tip, if you can’t manage the volume of orders, don’t take them in the first place. I was not offered a part/full refund and I didn’t get the impression they gave a monkeys either. Sort your business out, we will not be using Peony again because of this shambles.

This used to be an excellent takeaway, but it has gone down hill. It used to be impossible to get through on the phone on Fridays and Saturdays, so I had high hopes for the new online ordering system. Tonight we ordered online at 6.30 and was told our food would be with us at 8.15. That wasn’t great, but the food is good, so I accepted it. By 8.45 no food had arrived, so I started trying to contact them, it takes me until 9.15 to get through and am offered nothing except “your food will be with you soon”. Obviously they hadn’t cooked it. When I suggested perhaps a refund would be in order, I was offered £3. What an absolute joke on a meal that was an hour late. When I confronted the lady on the phone she said she would be mad too, but the cook is the boss and I can’t speak to him because he doesn’t speak English. When my husband spoke to the delivery driver, she said that they were having a lot of problems like this. They are more interested in getting new customers than looking after their loyal ones. So, good luck with that. We won’t be using them again and will tell all our friends not to either. 10/10 for food, 0/10 for service. It doesn’t matter how good your food is if you don’t have any loyal customers left. Unbelievably disappointed.

Ordered online and after waiting 2 hrs I called to he told that it would be 20 minutes more. Whilst waiting on the phone they were taking orders from walk in customers. It was obvious that they had forgotten our order. It's a shame because the food is usually quite good. Just awful service and delivery time.

I would have liked to have given No stars, but not an option.... Ordered online and 2 hours later still waiting for the delivery, absolutely disgusting, phoned to ask where our order was, no apology. Gave me the impression they had just forgotten about the order. So if you have a few hours to spare and ain't that hungry then this is the place for you, if however you expect decent hot food, delivered within a reasonable time frame then avoid this Chinese..... There's plenty out there that are far better.

Twice now I have ordered online from this shower and twice they have failed to deliver without being chased. I cancelled the order this time as being almost an hour late is not acceptable. I suggest you use a competitor if you want your takeaway...

Delicious food and easy to order online. We have only used collection and food is generally ready in 30 mins. Food is always hot and every dish we have tried is excellent quality. Highly recommended, the best Chinese takeaway I've ever had.

Ordering a big family takeout I had to ask if the meal I was ordering had any tomatoes in it in any form; real, paste, powder, puree due to an allergy that makes me rather ill. I was assured my meal didnt. Within 5 minutes...

Always have Chinese from here and it's lovely. Had one last night and again it was brilliant. They always cater for comments such as changing the noodles. Best Chinese in town ❤️

Just had chicken curry which I wanted hot. Came out slightly hotter than a mild so extra hot next time and egg fried rice with spare ribs. Came to 13 quid and was happy with it. Sat night they were so busy, the phone rang every 5 mins and 5 people waiting outside. Have them 5 stars because they did a great job.

PLEASE PLEASE SORT YOUR DELIVERY TIMES OUT. We have ordered from the jut eat website and delivery was maybe 45mins! You then say please order direct from our website and get PRIORITY DELIVERY every time since ordering from there has taken over 2hrs and I have had to ring everything to ask where our order is to be told be with you in 15mins awful delivery and not even a sorry when you phone

The only reason i am giving 1 star is to ensure they read my comment and sort out their delivery times. The food is amazing. The problem seems to be ordering online, either the order gets lost or they forget about it. So if you order from them maybe place order by phone is best. Sort out your orders by website, when you had deliveries with JustEat never had a problem, since it changed its a nightmare

Disappointed last night chips hard not cooked and curry samosas the same

Our usual Chinese is shut due to the virus. So this evening we tried The Peony. Wow!!! Delivery was bang on time suggested (sorry driver, tip you double next time) the food was outstanding, so fresh. Thank you Peony, you are our new favourite Chinese takeaway. Definitely recommend!!

Absolutely awful, ordered at 7.30pm and did not arrive for over 2 hours. Terrible service with no updates given and i had to chase them constantly. I called 62 times in total as they were also constantly engaged. No refund given at all on a order that was over £75... So frustrating as the food was good when it finally arrived.

The best Chinese Takeaway in the West End and Hedge End Area. Been ordering from here for over 14 years and, even after change of ownership, quality of food and service has always been excellent. Highly recommended!

Ordered our meal tonight at 18.20 and finally got it at 20.15 tried calling to cancel the order but phone constantly engaged. Delivery driver very polite. Food was stone cold and had to microwave it and found a leaf in with the chips. This is the 3rd time we have had to wait a long time for our meal so no more wont be using them again. Very unhappy customer.

Waited nearly 3 hours for delivery only to unpack the food and find they’d not given us everything we ordered and paid for. Ruined our Saturday night plans as we were sat around waiting and it was too late to do what we wanted by the time the food arrived.

We live in Bitterne and our local Chinese takeaway turned bad and all the others near us are also rubbish so we were looking for a new place to order from and found Peony in West End. We have ordered twice in the last couple...
