CUSTOMERS TALK ABOUT DISHES WITH..lobsterpie

comment_iconOpinions

The service at this pub is normally great and am never normally one to complain, but I think something needs to be said about the rudeness of the bar staff. We visited on a Sunday evening, so it wasn’t really busy like it normally is. I stood at the bar with my girlfriend and was aired several times by the bar staff. They were just stood there with their arms crossed chatting and drinking their own drinks, while we were just stood their awkwardly. I reckon we stood there for maybe short of 10 minutes and when we were finally greeted, the man just sort of looked at us with no facial expressions whatsoever, I don’t think he even said anything, just sort of raised his eyebrows. After he made our drinks, we were just shown the card reader…no mention of the price or a “there you go”, I don’t think a single word was said in the whole interaction. When we paid, the barman just took back the card reader and went onto the next customer… no “thank you”, despite us wanting to ask for a glass of water… but no… there was no chance to even ask for that. With pints upward of £7 now, I think a thank you goes along way as at the end of the day, we are supporting the already struggling hospitality trade by going out in the first place to spend money. And again, the bar was fairly empty, they weren’t run off their feet.

The food on the tables around us looked very good indeed, but we chose a lobster and langoustine pie to share and were very disappointed. Filling very mushy and the puff pastry came very overdone and darkish brown. Evening not helped by us being in a very very noisy part of the restaurant with no quieter place available. And two of us had to sit on stools rather than chairs. Service very good, but overall the night out was overpriced for what we had. Won't be going back.

A rugged Pub which is a great and welcome disguise for first class food. What a fabulous meal. Beautiful food matched with a friendly welcome. The staff were attentive and exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable - no question too much. The food - outstanding. I had langoustines to start and lamb for main which was served with a very special ‘Smokey’ aubergine purée. The sides were also a treat of flavours and texture. The pudding was sublime and I’m not going to name it as I want there to be a slice available - when I am next available to visit. The drinks were also just right and we were well advised. Thank you so much to Tareq and Freddy for making this a special first visit. Back soon x

I cannot say enough good things about this beautiful gem of a pub. What an absolutely magical experience it was having my birthday lunch here with my daughter. The staff were so kind and incredible at their jobs, making you feel at home and so welcome from the moment we walked in the door. The atmosphere in the front bar and restaurant is buzzy and fun and the interior is just beautiful. Our server was amazing and took the time to write out the specials on the menu for us in detail, which we thought was such a fab touch! We were greeted with a complimentary glass of bubbles which was a lovely birthday present, followed by an absolutely delicious meal and one of the yummiest desserts I have had the pleasure to eat - I cannot recommend the butterscotch dessert, beautiful salade. Entrecôte and pate enough!!!! I cannot wait to come back here the next time we are in london :)

We visited for dinner on a Saturday evening. It is a very popular place and booking ahead was essential. The pub itself is extremely busy, and we were met by large crowds standing outside and had to find our way to the entrance. There was also a long queue of people who I think were walk-ins for dinner, but as we had booked we were able to walk straight in. The restaurant is in a separated section to the pub, although there were a few tables that spilled into the pub area as well which didn’t look very comfortable. We were lucky though and received a lovely booth in the restaurant with loads of space. We were a family of 2 adults and 2 young kids and ordered the monkfish scampi, mince on toast, sirloin steak, chips, lettuce, and the signature lobster and monkfish pie. You are pre warned that the pie takes 45 min to prepare, and this is exactly how long it took, but with a few starters to tide the time it didn’t feel like a long wait. We tried the chocolate delice and sherry tart for dessert. All of the food was excellent! It was difficult to pick favourites. The pie was enormous, we almost managed to finish it but were totally stuffed afterwards. Service was friendly and reasonably efficient. The bill for our meal came to just under £300, of which £70 was spent on drinks. Rather pricey, but within reason considering the neighbourhood and the amount of food we ordered. This was a great meal overall and I look forward to a return visit.

Took an old friend for lunch, under the (mistaken) impression this was a Michelin* restaurant. If it looks and smells like a pub, it is a pub. Uncomfortable, cheap chairs and tiny tables. Waitress needed reminded we needed napkins. Clientele: people with dogs - going in and out to smoke in the street mid-lunch .. many of the people half-consulting their phones as they ate ... you get the idea. My friend, not trusting the look of the place, wisely chose a bottle of inexpensive, £42 white wine - and it was tepid. 2 small Sirloin steaks £78 (albeit nod to chef- steak was at least cooked correctly) 1 shared portion of frites and 1 shared broccoli. No starters no deserts - and (a Michelin guide rest.- where they do not serve coffee Lunch bill £160 inc service. Conclusion: ghastly, arriviste restaurant, poor service and awful interior.

This is one of our favorite spot to eat out in London. We have been there several times and I just decided I had to sit down and write a review. The atmosphere and service are simply exceptional, especially if you manage to get a table below the bar level. The dimmed lights, the candles, the fine-delicious-comfort food (hard to describe) turns the whole experience into something you want to live again. We had the chance to taste a lot of items on their menu, the meat is always perfectly cooked. The things that you absolutely have to take in our opinion are the Lobster pie and it sounds silly but the mashed potatoes are to die for. They have a short yet good wine selection that pairs well with their hearty meal. The place may sound like a not-so-kid-friendly restaurant but we've been there 3 times with our daughter and she was always welcomed and loved the food (especially the mashed potatoes). We will definitely go back as it is on our list every time we have friends or family visiting us.

Very much style over substance, al looks great and the staff are very pleasant but outstanding food this is not. The menu choice was very limited. We chose the langoustines which we had to send back because they were undercooked. The pork scratchings were very salty and the fish was just uninteresting. So although nice atmosphere and quite cool not altogether a great food experience.

Lovely place, brilliant atmosphere, great service from friendly staff, but food extremely expensive and very average. I ordered a bone in sirloin at £70 which was fatty, badly cooked (rare, almost blue but not at all well seared) and pretty cold on arrival, with solidified unidentifiable sauce, also cold. Wish I’d sent it back but it would have killed the mood. Sprouts and chestnuts at £9.50 was just a plate of sprouts and a few bits of bacon with a sprinkling of grated chestnut - more fool me. Happy to pay premiums for excellent fare but this is not that.

A very business place with a interesting menu for a pub. So book a table ahead. Staff were really good and friendly. The plus side is that the menu was interesting with lots of smaller plates to enjoy if you want something light. Food was great so well worth being in the Michelin guide. Was really buzzing along on the Saturday lunch time thst we visited. The tables were a bit close together but as the clientele was mostly on the young side it was probably not a problem . A tiny bit noisy and packed in for me as a middle aged woman who wants a nice lunch and can hear her partner. My only fault was that there really was no vegan food shown on the menu. As a part vegan / vegetarian I was fine. Maybe the soup was vegan who knows. Due to the location which is a pretty trendy area I would have expected the chef to offer some alternatives for vegans, or did I miss this on the menu?

Lobster pie was excellent but man it was pricey. Not sure if the fare was worth the service snobbery and the exorbitant prices.

I was at the venue with friends last night. It was a Saturday night and the bar was busy and the vibe was great. Having bought a round of 6 drinks, I didn’t fancy trying to re-navigate the crowded bar back to my friends (or leave my drinks unattended) so politely asked the bar staff to pop the drinks on the other side of the bar where my friends were stood so they could retrieve them and I could make my way back to them much easier. The bar staff refused. I tried to gather some sort of reason as to why this simple request was such a laborious ask but the member of staff just got very rude and dismissive. I tried to reason with her again, but again no joy. Flatly refused. Then another member of staff joined in and he couldn’t give a reason. Just rude and dismissive like his colleague. The lack of customer service and ultimately common sense was very annoying and not what you’d expect. Luckily the door staff stepped in at this point as they could see we’d hit a bit of stalemate and I have to say they were much friendlier, approachable and reasonable and helped resolve the situation which could’ve easily been avoided with some polite customer service. We won’t head back in a hurry. We ended up in The Cow where the bar staff were super friendly and happy to take our money and serve us for the reminder of the night.

Check your bill……on our bill was £2 Charity - this was fir tap water we had. My issue, is that at no point were we told there would be a charitable charge. I asked what the charity was, the girl did not know..”Something down Portobello Road”. I had this ‘donation’ removed. Then I realised, the charitable donation was on the bill above the Service Charge, should it not be added, after the Service Charge. Otherwise I am actually paying more than the £2 - is that ‘service charge’ also added to the donation, or does it go straight to the tips??? As for the food, it was OK, the lobster and Monkfish pie, the main reason we actually went here, was, on my part disappointed, under seasoned, partner agreed and over powered with either fennel or tarragon, I couldn’t decide which. To be fair, my partner liked the pie. It was full of lobster and monkfish, no scrimping there. Also, the pastry, for me was hard and tasted burnt…again, my partner understood, but that didn’t bother him. Oh, the brawn meat and egg starter, very nice, as was the cod and mashed potato.
