The Pearl Restaurant in Newcastle-under-Lyme

Been a while so thought would try again , food just horrible , frozen chips that stick in your throat , all dishes we’re so full of sugar and a cloying fat it made us sick , never again

We ordered a take away at 6.40pm...after numerous calls it arrived at 9pm. We were told that there was a 2hour wait AFTER we ordered and if we had known that we wouldn't have ordered or at least would have opted to collect. I have Type 1 diabetes and have to take my insulin 20 mins before eating. As an hour is the normal wait time I took it 40 mins after ordering. Despite chasing the order it arrived 2hrs 20 minutes after we originally ordered which left me in a difficult position to manage my diabetes. Yes being diabetic does mean that chinese is hard to cater for but depending on what you order it can be managed and it is rare we have one. We won't be ordering again from here and are absolutely appalled at the wait time.

Ordered chicken and rice, alongside vegetable spring rolls. For collection they estimated an hour wait which I was happy to wait, however when collecting and paying for my order I was told they haven’t had any rice and that I’ll have to wait a further 10 minutes. After that, I received my order and noticed that they hadn’t put in the spring rolls. When questioned, they told me they had forgot, and therefore was asked to wait a further 10 minutes. Almost an a hour and a half wait for chicken pieces, rice and spring rolls!! Not to mention the lady on the phone was extremely rude

Really did not enjoy the meal from here, the sauce was lumpy and tasted of nothing and no taste to pretty much anything.

Have ordered from here many times before and it’s just too hit and miss. Sometimes it’s lovely and others like tonight bland and mediocre at best. The chicken tasted weird not like any chicken I’ve eaten before. The meals were flavourless. Not worth the money will not be ordering from here again. Disappointed.

We order from here regularly, as we always enjoyed the food and the service. However, the last few orders have been incomplete for example the sweet and sour sauce not being put in the bag. Have also received completely incorrect orders too, including an unwanted chicken curry in which the chicken wasnt cooked through. Very disappointed.

Not impressed at all very bland ordered a chicken chow mein came with no chicken at all!! all so cold will not be ordering from here again

In my opinion it's the best Chinese takeaway in Kidsgrove. Chicken and sweetcorn soup it to die for. I have never had a bad meal.

Usually order from here for delivery a couple of times a month and usually excellent but lately quality going downbank and we ordered last night and took nearly 2 hours for delivery and arrived cold. Will be rethinking about where i order my chinese from in future.

I've been here a number of times and the food is generally ok with a large menu to choose from. On numerous occasions over the years we have tried to eat in the restaurant only to be turned away as its 'too late'. The 11/11:30pm closing times can only be for takeaway, and I can only assume you have to be there before 9:30pm for the restaurant?! Would have given 2.5 out of 5 if possible, but with a warm welcome hard to come by, the rating falls down to 2 instead of up to 3.

Ordered for the first time a take away from the pearl after reading many reviews ranging from bad to good .so after a resonable wait it arrived hot well packaged ith a friendly driver.five of us sat down and what i got for the next 20 minutes was silence ,not a silence of horror but tasty food and full of flavour.THE FOOD IS NOT GOOD -ITS VERY GOOD.w will be a returning customer thank you

Operator misleading about food delivery, did not listen carefully my order, too much salt and oily food.

We ordered a takeaway on Christmas eve. It took about 1 1/2 hours to arrive which was expected. What wasn't expected was the quality of the food. Both main courses were specials and both were a slimy and sludgy lump of food that we threw in the bin. It was the worst takeaway we have ever had. We complained to the manager but had no joy, he did not seem to understand or care about our experience. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!

I went here with my partner, it looked liked a pretty decent restaurant at first apart from that we were the only two people in there. We ordered some drinks and decided we didn't wanna eat in here. So we paid for the drinks and sat there for 10 minutes whilst we drank the drinks and decided where to go for food. Then all of a sudden out of nowhere a rat, yes a RAT ran across the room clear as day, my partner jumped up and shouted there's a rat in here, the waiter came out and said "which way did it go" she didnt seem surprised to be honest. We left straight away! Yeah so pretty bad experience to be honest. Highly NOT recommended.

Visited again for the Sunday buffet. Excellent as usual, good choice and freshly cooked. Staff are as good as ever

Good and local Chinese for us. Ate in a few times the restaurant is nice, had great takeaways too. Best Chinese in kidsgrove.

Not been to the Oriental Pearl for a few months but we visited last night and again the food was faultless, service was excellent what can you say. The only thing that the resta urent needs is draught beer/lager. Otherwise a brill night.

A regular takeaway customer although we have visited the restaurant too. The food is always amazing, my fave is the garlic and chilli prawns. I even tried the salt and pepper tofu. I've always been reluctant to try it as it looks rank on its own but it was very tasty. Only ever had one faux pas with the pearl and that was when I was delivered a chicken curry minus the curry sauce lol I rung up and told the lady who apologised and I was delivered another one in no time without charge so no harm done. Deffo my fave Chinese.

Love this place!I am a regular from the takeaway and the restaurant. The owner and staff are extremely friendly and make you feel welcome. Nothing is too much trouble. The food is great. Some of the best Chinese food I've had. I live in Middlewich now and still come down for the odd cheeky meal.

Food lovely again. It arrived well within the time limit and it was piping hot. We will be using you again.

That's got to be the worst takeaway food I've ever had. Ordered bbq ribs totally no taste just like stewed ribs and paid £2.20 for crispy pancake roll very small and only one. NEVER AGAIN

Have never ate in the restaurant but have been ordering takeaway from here for well over a year now. The food always tastes great, is hot & the portions are generous. Food has on occasion taken over an hour to arrive but it's definitely worth the wait.

This restaurant is located in a completely non-descript building in Kidsgrove. When you go inside its small and pokey.However.... The food is AMAZING. Quite simply the best Chinese I have ever eaten (and I've had a fair few). Go and check it out! Have anything and I guarantee it will be good. Thank me after.

Not visited the restaurant as yet, but we do intend to. Take away food is great. Large portions and excellent quality. We only use this Chinese takeaway in the area as we believe it is value for money too.

The best Chinese food I have had in a long time. Plenty of food, piping hot and no ill effects the day after (which is always a risk when dining out)

We visited here for my dads birthday, and we have been several times before.The food is delicious and they're always brilliant with my children, even serving my son his own basket of pancakes!Although it's a buffet we did, everything is cooked fresh and brought to the table, and you can order as much as you want. Which means that the only hands to touch it are your own and the chefs.Brilliant little place, highly recommend.

We used to use this restaurant regularly but they closed the upstairs a couple of years back making downstairs restaurant very compact we still have a take away every couple of weeks and the food is not expensive and always piping hot and tasty when it arrives. Great all round

Order from here every week, the food has always been to a high standard and always on time, worth trying if you haven't before!

Ordered food at 7pm and was told its 3o minutes for collection, at 7.30 I went to collect to then be told that it was another 10 minutes wait so I waited patiently for a further 25 minutes which then my food got brought out with no apologies for how long it had taken to do curry sauce and chips and salt and pepper chicken and chips. very bad attitude from a senior member of staff- shrugging his shoulders when told how long I had been waiting.very poor overall experience, would not use again

Been to the pearl Chinese again fantastic meal as usual the service is great and the food the best I've had for sometime, the public carpark is just down the road or you can order a takeaway, give it atry honest it's great either in or take out

We had food delivered from here and it was amazing! They have really turned things around and the food was excellent. Food was flavourfull, tasty and absolutely delicious. We previously stopped having food from the oriental pearl as the quality went down hill and there was so much chilli in my favourite dishes i couldnt eat them but in the last month something has changed for the better and the food is really really good. Tonight I had the Beef Rendang Daging with boiled rice. It was lovely - creamy, full of flavours that complemented each other and the beef was tender and perfectly cooked. There was just the right amount of sauce and the dish overall had moderate chilli heat. Both mine and my husbands meals were physically nice and hot when they arrived and clearly freshly cooked. the only thing I can fault them on was the length of time we waited for delivery - about 90mins - but we ordered via the establishments own website at 8pm on a Saturday night so we cant really complain.

We have been going to The Pearl Restaurant for the last five years. It's the best Chinese/Indonesian food we have ever experienced. The staff are friendly and very welcoming and the food is really inexpensive. Drinks are at an average price but certainly not overpriced.Please go and try it - it's EXCELLENT.

Very disappointed . Worst food i've had from them. Throw most of it on the bin. chips soggy, ribs fatty, crispy chilli beef tasteless with no sauce - really poor

Terrible customer service, failed to answer the phone on a number of occasions! very disappointing and frustrating!!

We tried this place for the first time at the weekend on our way home from a long walk, upon entering we were welcomed very warmly and made comfortable straight away, this is a small place but so very atmospheric, candles and low lighting, nice music and a tastefully decorated place, the food was the best Chinese food that we have eaten, and so a small wait was well worth it as the food was cooked to what we thought was perfection! If you want to order and be served instantly, try the takeaway instead, this place is to nice to rush away the experience, order, relax and enjoy your time here, thanks to all for an AMAZING evening.Dan Lisa & Grace (Kidsgrove)

can recommend here great fresh food, friendly staff to.....I eat at least once a week here I just love the singapore chow mein

Have been here for a family meal in the restaurant. Not many tables but great food and service.Regularly have take always from here. Love their food.

I recently dined at the Pearl at Kidsgrove, along with a party of 10 persons.Service was slow, dishes came out over 10 mins, therefore some were on the table for a considerable time before we could all commence. Food was very average. Drinks were very very EXPENSIVE, £3 for a lime and soda and £5 for a SMALL white wine and soda. The restaurant was very noisy, loud piped music which was horrible, I had a bad headache after 2 hours just trying to speak above the volume. Very small number of other diners so no excuse whatsoever for poor service. To top it all, the staff demanded that an additional bottle of wine be paid for at the end of the evening - even though drinks had been paid for independently from the bill, throughout the evening.We had been only 2/3 months earlier, when we experienced very good service, totally opposite to evening described above. WHAT HAS HAPPENED, PEARL?We will not be returning for our "Ladies'Night", we intend to try out Latif's Indian in Alsager next.
