The Peacock in St Albans

Was there for 3 minutes and was asked 3 times by try bouncer when we were going to order drinks. Very uncomfortable vibe had to leave.

The assistant manager, the young girl, is amazing. She is always happy and helpful. I enjoyed every moment at the Peacock. The beer garden is huge.

Polite friendly service and a nice crowd. Really enjoyed the live band (Snap) who along with their reggae influenced sound played some classic covers

It was quiet on a Saturday afternoon but clean tidy and Amstel was 70p a pint cheaper than the Mermaid across the road, also has a pool table

We have just visited the pub for the comedy show. What a great night and apart from being in the marquee and slightly cold we had a great time! Staff were lovely and very welcoming and it was easy to get our drinks. We spoke to the hosts who had been there a year and had made some changes, which we had noticed, as we hadn’t visited for a few years. The show was a competition and one off 4 heats and we will be going to all of them! It’s was well run and all acts were very funny. We will be back on some of the other nights and a few music ones too.

Great pub for pool darts and football on 3 tvs also great for music at the weekends with djs.

Verbally abused by another customer while the bar staff and other customers looked on. Two young females being hit with an onslaught of vulgar terms (not sure what is within Tripadvisor guidelines but c-word, sexual & misogynistic outbursts) more than 10 times by a rowdy group of males (some twice our age) over the fact we had an issue with them attempting to take our property. The barmaid looked lost as how to control the situation, but surely there should be bouncers if they cannot control the clientele coming in. Will never be back despite it being our local.

From once regulars… One party of guests that seem now more like regulars were raucous and disturbing others with the sheer volume and shouting. Besides, red wine served with ice? Staff training…. Go elsewhere!

The peacock has been done up well. Only problems the app systerm get rid of it.

Came here for the England v Germany match and was totally let down by the service here. We waited *over an hour* for the first round of drinks to arrive which meant we got them at the start of the second half. Their burgers look decent but no veg option, so I ordered the veggie platter.... I'm not exactly sure how to eat it?! It arrived with massive slices of oily courgette and other veg but with a very small amount of bread (sliced tortillas and not pitta!). Nachos are so salty which made us even more desperate for our drinks to arrive! Their outside seating area is pretty good but we'll be going to any other pub than this one for the next match. At least England won!

The service in the Peacock was second to none, food amazing, drinks come out quickly as you have to order at the table sue to coronavirus restrictions. All i can say is i was there for 4 hours and nothing disappointed me. 100% recommend

The latest updates to the gardens are great and the bar staff are wonderful however they are let down by the manager who is very snappy.

Just had two fantastic burgers (a cheeseburger and a chicken burger) with two very generous portions of fries. The food was delicious and the service was great. The guys running the pub have done a brilliant job refurbishing it and were super friendly when serving us. We are looking forward to coming back and making the most of the new beer garden, which looks amazing!

I have had a few drinks here in the past. Nice atmosphere and there has been some splendid live music and the DJ on Friday nights. I've had many a good night in this pub. Highly recommended.

Staff not always wearing face coverings effectively. The person serving us often had face covering beneath their nose and what appears to be a senior member of staff kept removing face coverings entirely whilst wandering around. Customers also seem to be taking guidance from the way staff are, as many wondered around without face coverings despite the plethora of posters. Won't be visiting again.

What a lovely place, the decor is relaxed and cool and funky, sofas everywhere, little nooks and crannies to sit it. There is a garden bit with the usual picnic tables, but they throw in some deckchairs as well. The selection of booze is good. All in all, cracking place to visit. Go for it

Only had one drink so can't really say much

A group of us came in after booking a table through the website (assuming they still did the nice roasts they used to do after the refurb). Turns out the booking we made never got through to the floor staff, we were then told because we didn't make a booking, that we could not be served food. After a chat with the staff we were eventually allowed to order food, which took 30 minutes to arrive, to be fair they did comp our "first round of drinks" (3 drinks only, we were 5 people with 5 drinks) for the hassle.To be quite honest I wouldn't come back. Seems to me that there is no communication among staff, and to be honest we felt a little unwelcome. Better off going elsewhere.

Might be an idea when a gig is cancelled to inform Lemonrock??

Large pub just outside of the town centre. Underwent a massive refurbishment a couple of years ago and now offers a large space with various seating options. Eaten here a couple of times and the food was to a high standard. Good drinks selection and very friendly, personal service too. Deserves to be busier than it often is. PS. Dropped by recently and the clientele really seems to be declining. I’m not posh but don’t really expect people at the bar to be swearing - loudly- at 6pm. The bar staff need to sort this out - for the longer term future of this pub. Hence now demoted to three stars.

Really unimpressed, turned up on a Sunday evening, meeting a guy for the first time and thought it would be nice to go somewhere friendly with nice staff only to discover that it was closed. No sign on the door saying why. No sign on the website.

These "people" are HETEROPHOBES and this place should be avoided at all costs. If you are a straight man you will NOT be treated with respect or receive simple customer service. Simply, AVOID. Worst experience ever from gay bullies. SHAME!!!!!!

AVOID like the plague! WORST service, no manners and for lack of a better word PRIMITIVE. It appeared as if they had refurbished the place but it’s the same s***hole they are known for. SIMPLY AVOID!

If I could give them less than one star I would. HORRIBLE customer service and EVEN WORSE manners. Will never go back and will advise others to do likewise. BARTENDER was the worst!

A nicely decorated small pub with space outdoors. Not somewhere to go for a quiet chat though - generally very loud. They often have live music which seems fairly inappropriate for a place of this size. When there is music it's deafening. There's a smallish outdoor covered area where you can escape the noise weather permitting although that of course is shared with smokers.

Such a fun, friendly & inclusive place!! Stumbled upon the pub as visitors to St Albans & the best night!! Great DJ playing fab 80’s tunes!

Popped in for a Saturday pint to find no one behind the bar. 2 guys on their phones at the bar apparently waiting. We wait a while, wondering what they have, only to find one of the disinterested customers was actually the barkeep! Not a way to run a pub... Then no Real ales... such a disappointment ;-(

Nice pub in At Alban's, just a little off the main high street. There are tables if you want to stay down for a meal, as well as other seating. There are comfortable couches, armchairs and stools around a performance area with live music of different kinds, depending on the theme of the evening.

After reading many positive reviews, my husband and I were looking forward to having Sunday dinner at the Peacock. We both ordered Roast beef, which took about 15 minutes to arrive. Unfortunately, they were rather underwhelming. Swimming in a soup of gravy were soggy roast potatoes, red cabbage, boiled carrots and mongetout (that famous roast dinner ingredient...) The beef was overdone and chewy, I struggled to cut it with a knife. Good thing my husband was hungry as I couldn't have managed to eat the whole plate. Saying that, the Yorkshire puddings were lovely (homemade). We couldn't have faulted the service either, the girl serving us was attentive and friendly. A great pub, just a shame about our roast dinner.

We were looking for somewhere to have lunch last Sunday and were recomended by a local to try the Peacock. I entered the pub and asked if they were serving food and was told yes of course, so we ordered some drinks and took a seat after being given some menus. When we looked at the menus the only food on offer that day was a roast dinner, which was not what we were after at all. We had all had too many roasts over the Christmas period to be honest. OK so I should have asked to see a menu first I guess. But then the shock of the drink prices as we decided to move on £24 for two small glasses of wine and two pintsis a joke. The place had no atmosphere and was dirty and untidy, with chairs and tables stacked up all over. No wonder we got a seat easily. It can not last long with those prices and that level of customer service.

Worst Sunday roast.. go for a beer only

For a great evening out full of fun karaoke and dancing, you have to try the Peacock. Oh and the have the best cocktails this side of the country, also other theme night, but I go for the karaoke, even if you don't sing they do have talent in there also.

Every time I eat at the Peacock, the meals are just delicious. Tonight I had the leek & potato soup which was divine. The Fish & chips, cooked just right. Not too greasy, not too dry, very succulent, tasty. And the chocolate caramel brownie with ice cream was just amazing, so yummy ! Definitely worth the trip, the chef works magic :-)

we booked The Peacock for my wifes birthday after looking at quite a few pubs in st albans,We found Elle and her team very easy to deal with and they could not have been any more helpful.From booking the DJ to decorating the pub with balloons and banners that I had dropped off during the day,nothing was too much trouble for them. We had a wonderful night in The Peacock,and lots of our guests commented about how friendly the staff were and about how clean the pub was. We also ordered food for the night which was very tasty and great value for money. All I all,i would not hesitate to recommend this pub to anyone looking to book a venue for a party in the St Albans area.

Had my wedding reception here for me and my husband. Plus our family and friends. All the staff were lovely and accommodating. We all had a fantastic night and the place was decorated fantasticly. Would definitely come again and recommend to people for functions. Thanks again guys xxx

Nice, quiet pub in St Alban's. Good for lunch time meals and leaving drinks. Burgers are nice, and chips are impressive too.

Awesome venue with great events. Particularly the monthly karaoke nights! Mojito is to die for and 2 for 1 on all cocktails!

Friendly bar staff, good food, great atmosphere. Has a good range of things going on.

This pub has been done up very well and the new owners are really making a go of things. The problem is that it is just outside the city centre and it doesn’t seem to get as busy as other places and this means it can lack a little bit of atmosphere during the day at weekends. The owners are trying hard though and when word gets out more people should keep coming. I know the gay night once a month is growing in popularity and I am sure evenings are busier too. I really hope that this pub grows as it makes a nice change from the usual city centre pubs!

Excellent Sunday Roast, Half a large chicken with really nicely cooked veg. very large portions and excellent quality. I would be happy to take my family (even my fussy as hell Father) Others had Beef, 1/4inch thick sliced beef and lots of slices.

Had Sunday lunch at The Peacock today, 6 adults, a toddler and a dog. Staff were really helpful, moving tables around to make it easier for us with the little one. When the food arrived, the table was quite crowded and unfortunately we managed to spill some on the floor and at the same time knock over and break a full glass of wine. The staff we’re excellent, they didn’t complain at all and just dealt with it calmly and quietly. They quickly brought more vegetables to replace those spilt. The meal was lovely with very generous portions. Would definitely recommend this for Sunday lunch.

Lovely atmosphere, a tail wagging welcome from Elvis the resident pub dog, staff also very welcoming and friendly. Food was amazing, good size portions. Service relaxed, not hurried or stressed. Good selection of wines. Will return and recommend.

I’ve been to The Peacock a few times and enjoyed their cocktails especially some of their specials. However, on my last visit, seven of us turned up at about 10pm on a Thursday night to be greeted by two members of staff with miserable faces. They looked really annoyed that we’d arrived and told us they’d be shutting at 10.30pm. We decided to stay for one drink and picked up the cocktail menu only to be told they wouldn’t be serving cocktails. We just couldn’t believe the lack of customer service and we all agreed we wouldn’t go back there. We ended up at The Mermaid who got the profit of 3 rounds, 21 drinks.

Great venue and location. Some clear thought has gone into the market positioning of this venue. HOWBLOODYEVER what a shower running it!

Love this place, whenever I’m in town for business I come here. The staff are friendly, food is beautiful and atmosphere is upbeat and relaxing. I would recommend visiting here before reading the small amount of negative reviews. If you rate the pub and have only a small niggle, speak with Sean the manger, he will sort it out straight away. No need to put it on social media unless the whole of the experience was awful. Pretty impossible to be disappointed with this place! FYI-best roast dinner in town!
