I booked their private room, which is advertised as being able to accommodate 16. We had 15. And though I suggested to inspect the room beforehand, they countered with the suggestion I can see it on the day of the event; and half an hour before guests were due to arrive. I was advised they would coordinate seating arrangements and I provided these arrangements well ahead of time. On the day, I arrived to find no seating arrangements and the table layout completely different to earlier indications. The room was too small to have a holding area for pre-dinner drinks, a fact not clearly communicated. Also, the service fell far short of what I thought I might expect. And though I provided feedback without asking for any compensation, the restaurant - rather than taking it on board - countered suggesting I was mistaken in my perception of their service standards. This is incredibly disappointing for the kind of establishment they suggest they are on their various media sites. I would not recommend their private dining option for any discerning hosts who are keen on making sure their guests are well looked after.

I went for my birthday dinner, what an amazing night. Good was great but the banter with the waiter made the night perfect. I didn’t get his name but he was great. Brought me out a table spoon for my pudding and a teaspoon for my partner. Great food and great night. Thank you for making my birthday great.

Last time I was here a few years ago, it was magnificent. This time, not so much. It's still a lovely venue: warm, cultured, comfortable, with a fabulous old rustic fireplace greeting one on entry. An equally warm and charming and professional maître d' greeted us, immediately verified the name and reservation, and left us in the care of a server who showed us through to our table. The very well equipped and stocked bar, just across from the dining tables, is professionally and efficiently managed, and very attractive. The ambience was delightful: warm and relatively quiet and conducive to conversation. The table service was average: the servers appeared rushed and under pressure, although the orders were taken efficiently and the meals served promptly. The Sunday roast lamb was over-cooked and bland, with the Yorkshire pudding (yes, with the lamb) also over-cooked and very dry, powdery with a couple of burnt edges. The accompanying vegetables were lovely: carrots and broccoli beautifully done and very tasty. The chicken schnitzel was reported by one of our party as bland in taste, while a favourable report came from another companion on the cheese & thyme soufflé. Wines were out of the question for our party mainly because of the prices: a 175 ml glass ranges from £7.50 for the house wine up to £16.50 for a 175 ml glass of pinot noir. We declined dessert. All-in-all our impression was one of over-pricing when considering the quality. The all-day menu, for example, offers a ribeye-steak for £38, a fillet of bream for £28, and a side portion of thick-cut chips for £5.95.

Firstly I cannot comment on food or drinks, a little odd for a restaurant review but we didn’t get that far…..! Table was reserved in advance for a family birthday ( party of 5 ) and were only offered the bar area which, having eaten in bars before, one would assume it would be fit for purpose! Instead we had a table in a vestibule next to the entrance, coat rack and vaguely near the bar! The other diners were all in the actual restaurant. Asked to change but were told that it wasn’t possible as we “only booked last week” . Customer service was non existent and management dismissive and couldn’t care less. We left and went Brasserie Blanc where we were welcomed, seated and treated perfectly. So back to The old Parsonage- first and last visit, food smelled good and ambiance seemed fine…. If you were actually seated anywhere near the main dining area.

Absolutely lovely looking Afternoon very high tea, but sadly it didn’t taste as good as it looked. A lot of food, but that dosen’t help if the good flavours aren’t there. The sandwiches and the cakes didn’t taste much at all, dry carotcake and soggy cheesecake. The scones saved the day and the score here on Tripadvisor.

Unfortunately I am having to give this terrible review with regards to high afternoon tea we had today the 18th June 2023. My daughter had the vegan option. The sandwiches were tomato, a cucumber and avocado. ( and I mean a tomato on one sandwich with butter then a cucumber sandwich with butter etc) The scones were 2 plain scones (raisins are vegan!!). We have been to many afternoons teas in our time and this was a terrible vegan option. They were given months of notice so knew were were coming. There are so many vegan options that can be done now so these sandwiches were a very poor excuse. When the bill came we had been charged for the two teas we had, which should be included in the afternoon tea. This was apologised and told they would be taken off the bill. It is the first time ever I have not paid the service charge. This was not due to service as the staff were lovely. My afternoon tea was nice. (The scones were very dry) but that’s ok as the rest of the food was good. I think to be charged £33 for the vegan option was ridiculous given the choice of food she received. Sorry to say we won’t be returning 🥲

Excellent and varied choices on menu for carnivores and vegetarians alike with discrete yet attentive service. Produce is clearly fresh, proudly local where possible, cooked and presented very well. Drinks menu superb - cocktails prepared by someone who knows what they're doing (not always a given, no matter what you pay). Most importantly, with minimal prior warning, they accommodated presenting the cake we brought along, at the right time & in addition noted her birthday at dessert stage earlier (without us asking). In other words, great team work with a gracious 'can-do' attitude. We've been before & thoroughly loved the evening - yesterday was extra special, thank you. We give this restaurant a "5". It is set in a very charming old paronage that is now an inn and restaurant. The interior is graced with a wonderful fire, a welcoming bar and a lovely intimate dining room with a lot of interesting art. The service staff is very pleasant and knowledgeable, the menu and wine list present interesting options, and the price/quality ratio is fine. They also have a picturesque outdoor area open for drinks and dining during the late spring and summer months. While not located in the center of the city, it is only about a 15 minute walk. We had a lovely dinner there a week ago. There are other fine restaurants in the vicinity--one with well-deserved multiple stars. But for an excellent meal at a very reasonable price in a very charming setting that is close to the center, the Parsonage Grill would top our list.

Oxford has few good places to eat, which means the more upmarket restaurants don’t have to try very hard as the tourists roll in nonetheless. I think this is the case at The Parsonage Grill, where we ate on a cold, wet night in February. The evening started well, and the gas log fire in the quaint, low-ceilinged reception area was cosy and enticing on a winter evening. We were greeted by a pleasant young woman who took our coats then had to stand around for a minute or two waiting for the manager to appear. He deposited us at our table and that was the last we saw of him. The décor is dark and moody with rather boudoir-ish looking low slipper chairs and the tables are packed together very closely. The wait staff are young and unpolished. I asked what the Massinoti, an Italian white wine, was like only for our waitress to reply ‘well, it’s an Italian white wine’. I thought my husband was going to burst out laughing. It’s a wine they offer by the glass and I expected that she would ask if I’d like to taste it, but no such offer was forthcoming. It was OK but if I had had the chance to taste it, I would have ordered the Gavi instead. The menu is not very imaginative. It’s predominantly meaty with a couple of fish options – including fishcakes, which I dislike as they're a cheap main course for a restaurant to churn out – and one veggie/vegan main – a mushroom risotto. I mean come on guys, it’s 2020 – you need to raise your vegan/veggie game! After some pondering, I ordered the chicken pie. It was delicious with lots of dark meat and leeks, – just what I wanted on a winter evening. My husband had the cod fillet and said it was fine. For pudding he had the sticky toffee pudding, which disappeared in less than 2 mins – I managed to grab a spoonful and it was delicious. Although I wasn't thrilled by the menu, our choices were good and we both enjoyed them. The Parsonage Grill was pleasant and we had a nice evening but there’s something missing - some vital ingredient of personality or enthusiasm – and I did not feel that the food prices were reflected in the quality of the service, environment or menu choice.

Warm welcome and warm place. A good old fashioned pub with selection of excellent food. Foreigners might label it as quaint but this is a compliment

We went on a Thursday night when it was not so busy and were able to have drinks at the bar before sitting down at the table. I've been here before and really like the dining room, decor, ambience, toasty fires, beautiful paintings, the whole thing. My starter was the most fabulous terrine I've ever eaten, this was the duck and foie gras terrine with pear chutney and toasted sourdough bread. The beautiful variety of colours, textures and flavours was both gorgeous to look at and delicious; the pear chutney in particular was a little miracle of taste and texture. For main course I had a daily special, braised ox cheek, with mashed potato and winter vegetables - a perfect dish for a cold January night. The meat was incredibly tender and delicious, with a gravy almost black in colour and with tremendous depth of flavour. The Dao we had with this was a perfect match - rich, smoky, intense. My partner had a braised shoulder of mutton which was similarly delicious. Out fo sheer greediness we then also had puddings - a creme brulee and an affogato - both delicious. It aint cheap but it's well worth the money, for a really memorable meal in a beautiful setting. Definitely worth going on a quiet night though.

Bar was full when we arrived so were shown straight to table. Offered water but no-one came to take order for pre dinner drinks. After some wait the server arrived to take food order so we asked for drinks first. Champagne and gin and tonic excellent but starters came almost at same time even though we ordered food about 15 minutes later. Starter ok but mains of steak were greasy and medium rare even though had requested medium as prefer ribeye more cooked. Chips tasted reheated from day before. Wine was excellent. Green salad very well dressed. Meal was saved by dessert - pear tart and spiced fruit ice cream. Was delicious. Server was very good but let down by quality of food. Tables very close together. Won't be in a hurry to return although this has been one of our favourites in past.

It was my birthday, & we were attending an evening event at the Ashmolean, so what better place for an interlude than afternoon tea at The Parsonage? The sweet & savoury afternoon tea was very good, I mentioned as we arrived that it was my birthday & thought no more of it. And then our waitress presented me with a plate which had happy birthday written on it in chocolate sauce, on which was a macaron with a candle in it. What a lovely touch!

Good menu, lovely food, thoughtful service in a cosy atmosphere. I'd definitely recommend and will visit again when I'm in Oxford. The only downside was the connecting door with the hotel which meant that there was a constant stream of people moving between the hotel and the bar through the dining area.

We have been here a few time and every time we go the food is great but the comedy small chairs continue to baffle me, as they are really uncomfortable if you arfe tall, which I am. Please change them.

Just had a lovely New Years Eve dinner at the Old Parsonage Grill with my SO. The food was very nice. I had the soup and my husband had the cheese soufflé as starters. They were both extremely good. We both had the roast beef for the main course which was nice. The beef was very tender and the mash and kale was excellent. But the real star of the dinner was the amazing chocolate and Jaffa cake they served for dessert. It was exceptional. It’s a flourless chocolate cake with a layer of tangerine marmalade that is extraordinarily delicious. Idk how it could be any better than just the chocolate and tangerine layers but then it’s covered with a dark chocolate candy shell and topped with the most amazingly light tangerine flavoured custard imaginable. I haven’t had a pastry this good since I lived in France several decades ago. Our server was Ruby and she was so helpful and wonderful. My only caveat was that it very warm in the restaurant. Uncomfortably so. They tried to cool off the seating areas but it took awhile and hence the 4 out of 5. Still, it’s a very lovely dining experience

The Parsonage is one of Oxfords best restaurants, its got character, a manageable menu and uncomplicated wine list and very good service. It has a nice non stuffy ambiance and feels relaxed.I rate the food quite highly and think its a must for all discerning Oxford vistors.

Friendly service in a comfortable room. I had a rib-eye steak that was delicious. We both started with delicate smoked salmon. The cocktails to start got us very much in the right mood for an enjoyable evening

Can't think of anything negative whatsoever. The ambience in the Parsonage Grill is delightful, with open fires and portrait-lined walls. Service was outstanding from the front door being opened for us through to the table service - staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent quality ( we paid similar in a London restaurant a fortnight ago, and they really could learn some lessons from the Parsonage! ). Home cured salmon was delightful, the steamed venison pudding was rib-sticking and tasty, and the tangerine and pear sorbets were, well, very tangerine-y and pear-y ( which is a compliment ). Somewhere we would definitely re-visit if in Oxford again.

We ate here on Wednesday night because it was close to our hotel and it was busy, normally a good sign. This was a mistake on our part. We ordered the chicken curry and beef rendang. As stated in a review below the chicken curry was FULL of bones, gristle and skin. The beef rendang was full of gristle and fat. By the time we had picked all this off there was hardly any chicken or beef left. When the waitress came to pick up our plates she asked if we had enjoyed our meal. We told here we were very disappointed and she did not appear to be to bothered. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Did not clear 4th setting on 3 person table. Slow service. Food very good. Servers not trained to restaurant standards though nice people. Food best element.
