The Parlour in Hackney

I rarely write reviews, but I have express my disappointment in the service and coffee quality. After waiting at the counter for some time, I was directed to sit, where I was never served. I re-approached the counter after not being served. I received a latte that tasted burnt, and overall undrinkable. Overall, an unpleasant experience

Loved this place. Delicious food and nice atmoshphere.

Yes - I know £73 for brunch, four people, no alcohol - is expensive. But this is Church Street - the epicentre of the young and cool in North London. The cafe is warm, friendly and the service is good. The front of the cafe is the best spot to sit - we were at the back which was fine but the toilet hand dryer was intrusive! The menu for brunch is full of delights and we all had a good feed - from the carnivores to the veggies we were all happy and stuffed. The coffees were good but luke warm and the pancakes were the star of the meal - freshly made and fluffy. I will definitely visit again and try some other delight on the menu.

Plastic cake Coffee - Been in here a few times, despite having a lump of plastic in the pie, so it must be quite good!

Venue is small but worth a little wait, the food looks great at the counter and the cakes too. I was the only one to have breakfast, it wasn't great, runny eggs, tepid toast, over cooked sausage, warm beans. Little thing like that makes a difference, but my friends loved theirs. Service is great with a nice atmosphere. I'll deffo go for the salads etc next time. Cheers

I bought a sausage roll (meat) and a cinnamon bun, to take away. The ‘meat’ was a white like substance, alarmingly soft and chewy, with no flavour. The pastry was without merit. I couldn’t finish it. The cinnamon bun was stale, but had a nice taste. I fear it was yesterday’s.

I never write reviews but the staff here were so friendly and the atmosphere was really intergenerational, friendly and just lovely. The food was gorgeous and the portions were huge!

The worst shakshuka I’ve ever had. It’s like someone opened a can of tomato on a plate, cracked open an egg, and just served it. So watery, tomato completely raw, no flavour. The only place in my life where I asked to remove the service charge from the bill. Edit: 2 days later I’ve come down with a stomach bug

Update- still the king of church street. Been going here for years and am never ever disappointed. Great food, in a lovely environment served by nice people. Two tips: put those amazing salads on the counter on the main menu and make some new laminated menus - the current ones are a bit manky.

Chilled atmosphere, staff were warm and helpful, food yummy - perfect escape from rubbish weather!

We have our weekend morning coffee and cake here. The staff are very welcoming. I am intolerant to both lactose and gluten (low FODMAP). Their mandarin cake is lovely and fits into my dietary restrictions. It would be lovely if they could have more delicious choices that apply.

Although the food was great, I left with a bad taste over the bill. The prices are +20% if you eat in, but I didn’t find out until I asked for the bill. Other than that great food and staff.

Red velvet cupcake was stale, dry and tasteless. Definitely not worth it being near £4 with the size either.

Super sweet little cafe (although it's bigger than it looks from the outside), well suited to the area, the staff seem happy, big smiles and pleasant service. Food came quick, and drinks were super quick. The presentation was great, and the meals were delicious. Will be back.

I go there often for brunch and they have very nice options. Not overpriced as some other options around. Staff is always nice as well. I'd avoid busy days as it can get noisy.

This is a £7 “club sandwich”. What. The. Heck. Were. You. Thinking. Please stop making this. It’s awful. I thought it was tuna mayo 🤢 nothing is right with it. Literally the worst sandwich I’ve ever had. I can’t finish it. It’s disgusting. Seriously what are you doing?? At least add photos so people can decide no before they order online. This is so bad. So so bad. I’m shocked. hungry. And appalled.

Told them I had a dairy allergy. Wasn't very helpful and clearly didn't tell the chef because now I'm paying the price. What's the point. Normal mayonnaise doesn't contain milk, I would presume like every food establishment if I say I have an allergy, the chef would check all ingredients. Not just put the responsibility on the customer to guess what is in their food.

Neither good nor bad. Just average. Food doesn't have much flavour. And the coffee is served too hot.

Popped in on a Saturday afternoon around 13:30 and got seated right away in the back conservatory like area. The setting is very cute and clean, with children’s books around for looking. The menu is extensive and quite light, clean food. We got the beef burger and halloumi mushroom burger with curly fries. Very good food! Will definitely be coming back.

One of the best cafes in Stoke Newington, I order from here regularly and the food is always tasty, fresh and very good portions. The food is very well priced and is affordable. I would highly recommend this cafe to anyone who hasn’t tried it before

The atmosphere is very peaceful and lovely. The food is delicious, I had the "smoked salmon bagel" it was very nice.

Sat in here and had a coffee and carrot cake with ice cream. Coffee could have been a bit stronger but the carrot cake was nectar 🥕🥕

I regularly come here to work and eat brunch/ lunch. The food and coffee are excellent as is the service. The staff are friendly and it is very well priced for a lovely experience and a great meal. Would highly recommend.

Visited Saturday, and the food and service (from Songul) was great. Lovely flat white - will be back soon!

Great great place!! Food was healthy and great presentation at a good price. The service was top and very friendly and welcoming.. I was able to have great food and do my work and connect to a great wifi reception! Only thing is that i was doing video calls to clients and unable to hear them much as the speaker system was right there. but thats my problem, not theirs lool

Cute cafe tucked away in the Stoke Newington high street, with simple sandwiches and well prepared baked pastries. I got the veggie tortilla, it was really well made. Although my husband's sandwich was okay at best. Will try it again in summers.

the food was really nice but a smidgem pricey and portions weren't huge. I had a vegan breakfast which didn't have enough toast, loads of sauce (it was some sort of spicy tomato sauce, absolutely delicious), black beans (unconventional but nice) and other standard paraphernalia. the cakes were really nice tho.

Really enjoyed it here. The setting is lovely. The staff are really nice. The sausage and halloumi wrap was so so good and the chips were cooked excellently. The cappuccino I had to start was a delight. Would return here and recommend you do too. Could do with an automatic door closer on the door to the toilets as the hand dryer can be loud

Love this place. Get take aways often but today we sat inside. It’s a lovely atmosphere with very friendly/helpful staff. Food is superb. Juices are amazing. Would I recommend??? OH YES! Definitely.

Nice coffee place on Stoke Newington church street. Coffee was ok but the treats look really inviting. This place also has lots of seating and hosts local artists on the wall, art pieces which you can actually buy. It is super competitive on church street and not my favourite place but a nice place overall

Unfortunately, the food quality did not match. A. had the classic pancakes, which were dry and fairly tasteless. I have no idea what the "maple syrup" actually was - something sweet with the consistency of set honey, so had to be spread. My burger was equally disappointing.

Had breakfast here this morning and it was really lovely. We had a the traditional and the Parlour breakfasts with a latte and pot of tea. Lovely and cosy inside with great decor. The staff and fast and friendly. Lots to choose from on the menu. From pastries to dinner they have it all, and it all looks fabulous. They had a little bookcase with kids books which was very useful, also had high chairs for the toddlers. Great place, highly recommended.

The team here are super chilled and hospitable. Have been in for just a coffee, as well as lunch with my whole family and the vibe never changes. No rush, no pressure, just a nice spot that suits all occasions. Groovy Green smoothie is ace too!

Nice place to go for breakfast/lunch. Portion sizes aren’t as big as some other places on church st and the cafe was quite cold. Lovely that they do fresh leaf tea in a pot so you can get a few cups out of it rather than some places that just give you one cup. Was a bit caught out as i thought garlic sausages were going to be well.. sausages. But they were actually 2 slices of chorizo 🤣 maybe my bad haha. Still would recommend and has a quiet atmosphere in the week so good for kids

I had to get lunch at 8.00 am . She took her time and also was giving me alternative suggestions, what will be ideal for me to enjoy . It was am around 8.00 on a Monday morning, she was Pleasant and cheerful also very welcoming.

DO NOT GO HERE!! The staff are extremely rude. What happened: I bought 2 iced coffees and sat inside, upon exiting, for take out, I ordered 2 cannoli (which for take out is priced £1.95 each), and a pistachio dessert, (which for take out was priced at £1.25) which should come to a total of £12.10, plus the 12.5% of the £7 coffees, that I sat inside to drink, which I didn’t mind paying should be + £0.87. Total of £12.97. They charged me £14.75 and told me off, started shouting at me when I was politely asking how they came to this sum. They left me stunned, as it was not busy in the store, 3 staff members and 2 customers were being served. I am a polite person, and it’s every customers right to NOT be over charged. I wish I had gone back and also refused the service charge, but they left me stunned. I ended up paying more than what I should of still. Plus there are flies everywhere, noticed that, but because the other shops on church street were selling the same desserts, I knew that it was not made by them. EXTREMELY RUDE, ENTITLED ATTITUDE AND NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, however the female waitress that served us was lovely!

Popped into today bunch of four, looked online first seemed inviting and yum food on menu! Wasn’t wrong, excellent dishes, I had the meat lasagna perfecto lol, all the dishes were yummy. Cool and pleasant staff, fab, had the rainbow cake wow wooh, thank you for lovely brunch date Hola 🦋♥️😊👋🏻🤩

Honestly not bad! Nestled in a quit area on church street, The Parlour offers indoor seating and patio seating. We ordered some salads, an omelet and a rap and were satisfied with the plating and quality of food. Although the menu could’ve had some more cultural variety, we still enjoyed the food. As for the drinks, we ordered some smoothies which where honestly very good. As for the price, we were pleasantly surprised, we were able to cater to 4 people for around the 40 pound mark. The service was also a key part of the restaurant, they were very kind and willing to help us. All in all I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area stopping by!

The cafe had a nice interior design. I went for a takeaway mocha but I was amazed and wanted to stay a bit longer. After paying and asking if it's okay to have my coffee there, I was told sourly they will close in 10 minutes. The mocha was too sweet and had no cream. After 8 minutes, I grab my paper cup to leave when one of the staff called me asking if I paid. It was a small cafe with three staff and two other customers, it's odd to be asked at the door if you have paid. Overall, It is not the best place to visit in Church with many good options. By the owner's response, I am satisfied that was an honest mistake.

This is one of my favourite cafes in London, I visit every Friday with my son. The food is delicious, they have have a good selection on the kids menu and they will make adhoc meals for kids on request. The menu is very reasonably priced. All the staff are lovely… and are so welcoming- especially to my son. Highly recommend a visit

Food is amazing and fresh, The banofie is one of the best I’ve had.

love the new acai on the acai bowl! now it tastes like the one we have back in Brazil ( : The only suggestion i have is to put the granola over the acai and not under it, makes it a lot nicer IMHO ! loads of love!

My favourite joint on church street, stokey. The lovely, cosy feel is unmatched. Very ideal to work from too as the staff are super nice and helpful. The menu is so rich that I am yet to be bored, despite being a regular here for ages!

I just had the tastiest lunch with 2 beautiful salads and a (vegan) arancini style ball. I seriously recommending popping into this chill little cafe and treating yourself!

I visited The Parlour with my son after swimming. The staff kindly made my son an off menu sandwich and the waitress made him a delicious babychinno. My sandwich and coffee were delicious too. I will definitely be returning. All the staff were great and everything was reasonably priced.

Fabulous food here, eggs benedict to die for! Yummy coconut milk flat white. Light and airy decor with kind and friendly service. Only thing to improve is the toilets which need an update but are still clean, highly recommend!!

£3.45 for a takeaway doughnut that was so stale it was inedible. I didn't return it as I was too far away to bother.

Delicious pancakes and very friendly staff.

I hate to do this and never have, but having received no response to my email in an attempt to raise awareness to management of the situation, I want our experience to be recognised. Last week we visited The Parlour following many trips past the very tempting display in the window. The staff were lovely and all be it the food was great too. However, my friend has a severe egg allergy and chose one of the cakes advertised as 'vegan' in the window. Shortly after consuming she had to rush home because she was inevitably very ill. In my friends absence the staff showed me the details for the ordered in cake, the details stated 'dairy free' and 'gluten free'...NOT vegan. We attempted to explain that dairy free does not mean vegan. They tried to say the product had no egg, however this clearly wasn't the case and although we tried to explain I could see their clear concern for the severity of the situation and didn't want to make it worse for them. Following the rest of our group finishing up I asked for the bill, admittedly without really looking at it, I just paid and we left to follow my friend and her partner home to see how she was. After I got home I reviewed the bill and realised they had charged us for my friends cake and coffee despite the fact she had barely touched it because of the allergy incident! I couldn't believe it. I appreciate its only a couple of pounds, but surely its just the thought and gesture. I am not trying to bash this business. I just want the severity of the incident with my friend to be recognised and hopefully all allergen advertisement can be reviewed to ensure nothing like this happens to them again!

Great local cafe on Stoke Newington Church Street - I often pop in here if I go for a walk in the morning. Very friendly staff and a good sized coffee (I often find many of the “trendy” coffee shops serve coffee in such small cups but this place serves them in good sized cups so you can take your time enjoying your coffee). Wonderful food too - pastries always look spectacular.

Very generous portions, I was stuffed afterwards. The service was fast and friendly. Only thing I would say is they shouldn't give us menus they had the scan to see their menu and also they didn't ask for our phone number or name. The cafe had nice music and a good interior design.

The staff were lovely and accommodating, it is dog friendly, which is helpful. The food was tasty and great value for money.

Fake flowers as decor. Extensive menu with very different dishes, which should have made me suspect that the quality wouldn’t be superb. You can’t have that many dishes (burgers, sandwiches, salads, breakfasts, ice cream, smoothies, coffee, cocktails, mains, etc. Then when the food arrived it came cold and huge portions but lacking of flavour. The service was also very poor, having to wait forever to get the bill. Honestly would NOT recommend and will not be coming back.

My partner was local to The Parlour today looking at a job as he is a builder. Normally A local bakers or named bakers would be his grab of a bite to eat. How ever the magnetism of this place drew him back to step inside, to which Never would he leave any lunch to bring home for me but his words were “ I had to save some for you to experience “ Chicken in wonderland with parsley and pomegranate salad, mozzarella couscous and cauliflower onion and chickpea salad. His words are £9.95 or £99.95 it was worth every penny. What an amazing experience. Never given a review on any site before, but this so deserved a review. Thank you the parlour he will be back

My partner nipped out to get us a breakfast as we had nothing in. Tried the parlour. He asked for no mushrooms, tomatoes, back pudding. We didn’t get anything in replacement. And toast was missing. Scrabbled egg wasn’t great at all. I have been here once before and loved what I had (lasagna), so hoping it was just a blip today and that it can be rectified.

This is the best place Ive ever been to. The people are beyond lovely and kind and the food is so perfect!!! I LOVE IT
