Biddle Bros in Hackney

There are some places that stand or fall on commercial principles: the prices, the quality, the "brand", the "product" and the promise. But there are other places that exist in another dimension. They base their existence on a kind of love. A love not for themselves or their ambitions, but a love of people - of society, of community. Diverse, yet sharing a common direction and outlook on life. Biddle Brothers is one of those places. Timeless, welcoming, happy in an effortless way. Contenting. I saw a band there called Angry. They were beautiful.

Awful experience with one of their servers who was hostile, incredibly rude and argumentative. Would avoid this pub.

Cool live music venue, get some great bands

Popped in after walking by. Stayed for a couple of pints. Good beer. Easygoing, friendly atmosphere.

Great bar, but whoever this woman Nicola is behind the bar is just awful. Please get her off the karaoke nights, everyone hates her . Really mean woman. Outside of that, great boozer with real community feel.

A Hackney institution, only comment would be for a better variety of bottled beer, maybe a few beers from the world, otherwise a unique place

Yeah it’s a good boozer and part of the reason folk go there is because they have live music …..but you probably don’t know that the owner doesn’t pay the musicians to play. Why do they think musicians should play for free whilst they’re getting money behind the bar??. It’s a disgrace really. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Proper vibe, full of characters with a thirst for a good drink. Football occasionally is a treat for the alternative football fan. Not your typical football gaff though and not always on, which is cool. Great for local live bands out the back. One of the last true pubs of Hackney, which was never a pub in the first place. Love it.

Well, I was called up to sing on two occasions on two Sunday evenings. And apparently appreciated by the management and staff. Thank you.

The beers are excellent. In particular Guinness. The owners are friendly and welcoming. Fun. We sang two songs together.

Karaoke with Nicky The Strict was the best fun. Great pub, fab staff, great crowd.

This little pub packs a punch with live music and an inviting atmosphere. A five-star spot for great tunes and good times!

Great pub with bands nice vibes

First time here and loved it. Excellent atmosphere, top bar staff, I played a gig here later that night, sound engineer Nick was great, lots came through the bar to see us. Looking forward to coming back soon

There is no food. Other wise perfect place, really.

Enjoyed a "stripped back" evening with half of The Ragged Flags. James & Mark smashed it out of Clapton Ponds with their killer guitar work and vocals. Wine bar was a friendly atmosphere with a good crowd of appreciative punters. A great evening out! SG.

It's a tiny bar but when it's a gig night, the back room comes alive and it's a really happening place - mainly craft-style beers but old-school shabby-chic ambience.

Amazing place with some Interesting options of music. Great range of drinks and good service and atmosphere. Also the place is beautiful but a little small. The Brixton cumbia association plays sometimes there and is a great fun

I’ve been there a couple of times after modelling at the near by The Star of Hackney Down to catch the last drink. Very cool looking forward for tomorrow again.

Biddle Bros is a gem of a bar with a good atmosphere and reasonable drinks prices. I absolutely refuse to set foot in there again though until they part ways with Nicky, the woman who does the karaoke on Sunday evenings. She's disorganised, stressed, but worst of all rude to the customers. She very publically insulted my partner tonight while he was trying to give her (pre-arranged) assistance in managing the karaoke crowd control. Bearing in mind he gave up his evening to try and help her, she arrived 2 hrs later than planned, dismissed his ideas, told him to effectively be her bouncer, and then had a go at him for not mopping up spilt drinks (and to humiliate him further it was in front of a microphone so that everyone could hear). Even though he doesn't actually work there and was just trying to help! At this point my boyfriend walked out in disgust. You'll not have our custom again until this woman has gone. What a shame.

If you want your live music interesting and homegrown, your beer cold and your chat easy then this is the place.

Nice pint of hazy pale ale at under £6, good place to start the night before moving on through the night, also a good bar to finish at too, punters are interesting and loyal to the place. Needs food to hit top grade, though they let you order from the Italian next door which does make up for it a little, the waiters even deliver to you in the bar.

My fauvorite local pub in Hackney, great pale ales, great atmosphere and live music every week.

I rarely have a good time here but the Beer is ok and it has a cult following.

Been driving past here for a few years (always noticed a crowd outside on the weekends) and wanted to check it out. Nice vibe and good crowd even on a Sunday. Bar / karaoke staff were lovely! Will be coming back

It's a nice little venue with a back room, so far have caught a jazz gig and a poetry event. Nice!

We happily partook in what Biddle Bros had to offer. We were given last orders and were making our way out in due time. We asked the manager if we could put our drinks in plastic cups, and he then he felt like we were stealing our beverages and then turned and grabbed both of my wrists and said 'how old are you?' and proceeded to force us out aggressively. We were surprised by his violent nature when all we were asking was for us to leave quietly as his bar states this policy. It was unkempt as we enjoy this bar and what it has to offer, it's not our first time coming here and so it was dissapointing when we were treated so abhorrently. All we wanted was to have a good time with friends and leave with good memories. We did not. And that is the only reason why I have written this review. I hope they can improve.

Terrible place. We were there for a birthday. They scan your contactless paymentt. Beware. When we raised the issue with the owner he started insulting and shouting to us. Dont go there if you have go Be careful

Very fun and interesting late bar with good bands and bad behaviour.

Odd place where they allow drunk (or high) parents to bring their little baby whilst they blare music amongst other high locals. Very unsettling experience. You will never see a label on any drink and the staff doesn't care about any of this.

Don't listen to the naysayers, this pub has plenty of character. Unfortunately all of the character is detritus.

One of my favourite venues. Very cosy and friendly atmosphere .I went for" Film and Beyond "which is on first Wednesday of every month and enjoyed a great vibe and exciting short films and live music and found my experience highly nourishing.

A cozy drinking joint in the heart of Hackney. Engaging, live entertainment in this secluded, art deco fronted building. Worth a visit.

No frills, all fun at this hackney boozer. Perfect mix of locals and those lucky enough to stumble on the place.

I cannot express enough how much I love this place. Always fun. Always a great atmosphere. Lovely staff.

Need a bit of explanation here. 5 star is for the overall vibe but not the food or drinks in particular. The owner is so friendly as well as the customer in there. The bar itself is quite cramped but it just gives you that cosy friendly neighborhood bar feeling. Live music on Thursdays Fridays and Saturdays. The space of the venue makes interaction between the band and the audience a lot more pleasant. The owner's dog is walking around inside the bar and even have it's portrait in the wall available for sale. I just think it is one of those little bar at the corner of the street (literally) that you will find it so lovely.

Very laid back, unassuming vibe on entry. Lazy jazz notes drifting from the, very light, airy back room. Hugely engaging, positive , barstaff. Felt like i,d found a bit of me.

This place is so much fun, live gigs, wild locals.

És el primer PUB que em trobo a Londres en el que sento que a dins la gent es coneix, com el PUB del poble. L'ambient agradable, gent molt maca, igual que el servei. El preu de les begudes és correcte. És un PUB clarament antifeixista on es munten festetes xules. A dins hi ha un espai amb taules on es pot tenir un ambient més íntim, i hi ha un piano que es pot tocar. Val molt la pena aquest PUB.

Great atmosphere and another surviving old school Hackney pub. Full of characters some you don't mind being rammed up against but a few you might not. The reason for 3 not 4 stars is that in a venue this small you just have to sound check EVERY band it your ears might just fall off! 😉

Great bar, great people what more do you need

Last place open, cosy, no frills, friendly neighborhood fixture. Quite often DJs playing.

Cosy little bar. Great atmosphere and books some great musicians. Can get a little crowded just due it's size but that adds to it's vibe. Beer is actually fairly priced. You can get two pints for under a £10.

The place just got the vibe. A high quality musicians sometimes plays there .. the owners and bar tenders are all cool and fun and friendly. the regulars are nice too.
