This was a sweet tea room. It was lovely sitting on a table in the sun. The tea was really nice and they brought extra hot water to top up the tea which was really appreciated. The tea set was also really pretty. Was a lovely spot for a quick break. We didn’t get any sweet treats but there seemed to be a nice selection of cakes.

Disgusting service. Only wanted 3 tubs of expensive ice cream. Having chosen our tubs from the freezer queued up to pay at the counter next to the freezer. Having reached the front a gruff woman on the till said "If it's only ice cream you have to pay at the shop next door!" We went next door to an empty shop with no one on the till. No bell to ring and no sign of staff members. Waited for a few minutes and gave up. Chucked the tubs back in the freezer and left (never to return again).

We visit Southwold regularly and always take the ferry across to Walberswick to mooch around the shops and village. The Parish Lantern has the finest gift shop that we have to visit every time we go. Lynn was so very friendly and really took her time with my children, engaging each of them in conversation and making us all feel so welcome. We love the shop for all its treats but more so because Lynn has such fabulous customer service and friendly welcoming manner Thank you for making our trip over so much fun. We’ll see you again soon

I was enjoying a walk in Walberswick and chanced across what I took to be a shop and gallery displaying several items (Pachamama knitwear & sea-themed plates for example) that I was interested in buying. A sign on the front door said dogs must be carried though if not busy clean well-behaved dogs may be allowed on the floor. Placing my clean well behaved dog behind me, I pushed the door open to actually ask if I could view items in the gallery attached…and intending to tie my dog up before, when the shop assistant immediately said “No dogs” in a very unfriendly / hostile tone. I replied by reading the sign on the door - wished her luck….and left, never to return with or without dog. I can only assume that business is so good that, on a very quiet Saturday in February, they don’t need the custom. In my case, and paraphrasing Pretty Woman, big mistake - huge. I would strongly recommend that the many dog-owning visitors to Walberswick keep on going to a much more hospitable Aldeburgh, Southwold, Snape or indeed anywhere else with their money.

We have been going here for years but on our last visit in June were disappointed to see the garden was in need of some tlc. We had to order and pay at the front of the building and again were disappointed to be served our drinks in cardboard cups, gone are the pots of tea for two and gone are the beautiful cups and saucers ! The tea was undrinkable , such a shame !

We have been here many times in previous years. It was always a small, quaint tea shop where we could have a nice snack or a light lunch. This year, it is clearly under new management. We had drinks: milk shakes, coke and decaf coffee with light lunch/snacks: pizza, brownie and flapjack. Ordering was a shambles: No menu was available in the seating area (in the courtyard round the back of the shop). We were told it was on a blackboard round the front. The "menu" was spread over several different blackboards with very little apparent order. Once one managed to order, the person taking the order did not seem very confident. The card machine was, apparently, not working ... but could we go into the main shop and pay?! This was fine (could we just have not paid? I suspect so!), except that nobody was at the desk in the shop, so we had to wait... and wait. After that, service was pretty quick; our order was delivered to our table by a friendly server. The forgot one drink, but brought it promptly. The pizzas were nice (should have been cooked just a tad more, for my personal taste). The cakes were nice too. The coffee was very good. The milk shakes were awful. I ought to have returned them, but (1) I'm British and (2) the staff at the front really didn't seem to know what they were doing and I shudder to think what would have happened. Overall: maybe they'll work it out? We might give them another try, but I'm not optimistic.

The shop itself offered very good range of gifts and cards but the twice in a week we visited we were unable to purchase a drink as they weren't doing drinks at that time - 3.30pm. In a very touristy place we were surprised and wondered what the purpose of the place was? Signs everywhere indicating it was open for refreshments but not a coffee or cup of tea to be had. Whilst we appreciate staff shortages are very much an issue at the moment - we didn't want food only drinks and most people could if they wished to do so rustle up a drink.

Walberswick doesn’t seem to be well organised for tearooms. We were quoted a 40 minutes wait for a sandwich at the Tea Shed. Sadly, due to COVID19 no longer table service in the garden - you now have to order from a "take a way" at the front of the building and then, if you wish you may sit in the garden and they will bring it round to you - the garden is somewhat overgrown but still nice to sit in. Good range of cakes and drinks at reasonable prices.

I visited Walberswick at the weekend with some friends and I was so surprised to discover they offered a gluten free version of their stone baked pizza! The staff were very knowledgable and asked if I had any other dietary requirements as they can do vegan toppings as the base was vegan as well. The gluten free vegan base is cooked in a separate oven to the normal pizzas too 😊 Really friendly and quick service and we took our pizzas to the beach to enjoy, I had the veggie option and my friend had a normal pepperoni pizza and said it was just as good. I’d definitely recommend this lovely little spot just a stones throw away from Southwold - and definitely take the pizzas to the beach!

Not really geared up for children - very expensive apple juices, cheese roll for the children with crisps and a side salad - maybe ok for adults but as the waitress knew this was for children to share maybe the dressed salad was not going to be eaten, whereas just tomatoes and peppers on their own would have been great. Small pot of cream (not clotted cream) for three cream teas not really enough - same size as given for two scones and had to ask for more. Staff not very friendly or welcoming

This is a cute little tearoom, garden and shop in the quaint village of Walberswick. The atmosphere was lovely and their attention to detail in the crockery was charming. I would like to raise awareness that the prices a extremly high even by London comparison. Nearly £4 for a doughnut that was very dry, but you could pay extra for jam and cream! The cream tea had whipped cream and for the price charged would have expected it to be clotted. A sausage sandwich was £6.50 It was a shame that it was so expensive as this would have been a perfect pitstop.

Walberswick needs more competition which might mean this tea room could not get away with overpriced snacks and rip off prices. Tucked away in the corner of the shop. It may be better in the garden - but this was December. Limited choice. Pot of weak organic tea and glass of ginger beer came to £5.50. Cream teas with just one scone - I heard the explanation given to a customer that they had reduced it from 2 scones because people often left one or shared the scones. A shame because it could be so much better but I think it is taking advantage of there being no where else to go in the winter.

I have been going to Walberswick for many years to spend a couple of hours of cheap fun with my crabbing line. I then normally go to the Cafe that is at the end of the row of shops with a lovely garden for outside eating. Unfortunately it is no longer trading and is up for sale. Thought we would try the Cafe at the Parish Lantern which is a lovely gift shop. We couldnt find a seat outside as the sun had brought everyone out so went to find a table inside. There was one table already occupied and the rest of them were full of the previous customers plates, cups etc. We managed to clear f few things off one table and sat down to look at the menu. We thought the Cromer Crab sandwich sounded nice so tried to find someone to take our order. The lady was busy in the kitchen so we waited patiently for her to finish what she was doing but still hadnt come out to take our order so we popped our head through the door leading to the kitchen and asked if we could order. She asked us what we wanted and when we asked for the crab sandwiches she rather rudely told us that menu had finished at 2.30 (it was now 2.40) and we could only order cream teas or cakes. As we didnt want cake for our lunch we decided to give it a miss. We headed back to Southwold where we were staying and had a lovely lunch at the Sole Bay Inn that serves food all day. We were disappointed as this was our first experience of this tea room and first impressions count. We will definately go back into the shop as it does sell lovely things at a reasonable price but I really don't think we will try the tea room again.

I bought a sensational shirt there last year, ideal to be worn on a hot summer's day. Ladies clothes too. As regular visitors to Walberswick, we recently returned on what was a glorious September afternoon. After our walk, we decided to stop for a quick cup of tea. Having had many refreshments in this tea room before, we decided to return here. We were greeted by the gift shop assistant and checked the tea room was open ( it was only 3 pm though). The tea room was empty so we sat near the kitchen and one of the kitchen staff looked over to see us arrive. After 10 mins, the same member of staff looked over at us again but did not ask to see if we were ready to order. After another 10 mins, I looked into the kitchen area to see no members of staff were available so we left and went to a nearby tea room whereupon we were greeted immediately and our order taken within 5 mins. Such a shame- an overpriced tea room which does not warrant charging such high prices when the service is diabolical

The Parish Lantern is a large, double fronted Victorian house beautifully located on the Green in Southwold. It could be excellent, but for many reasons it is not.Entry is through the extensive gift shop, where the senses are assaulted by smelly toiletries of uncertain provenance, and all manner of strange and unnecessary trinkets that have no relationship to the surroundings or to a seaside holiday. No synergy there. The indoor tearoom is stuffy, narrow and furnished with dated orange pine furniture. Menus are plastic and sticky, a pet hate of mine, and staff are clearly audible in the kitchen screened by a thin wall. At time of visit, staff were a collection of rather hopeless public schoolboys on holiday; I clearly heard one of them ask 'which one is the ginger cake'? which was equally entertaining and depressing.Something of a coffee lover ~(some would say addict)- the cappuccino was a grim disappointment: a huge cup of gray liquid that, if I closed my eyes, was unidentifiable as coffee. The ice cream was nice but that is because it was made by the excellent local Alder Carr dairy, and the tearoom had nothing to do with it although the boy did ask if I would like cream on it! Er, no.There is a pleasant rear garden; we did try to get served there first but no one appeared and we thought the place was closed. 'The Parish Lantern' needs to remove all the gift tat and turn itself into a simple but gorgeous cafe for walkers, cyclists and holiday makers, possibly with a couple of B&B rooms. That is what I would do with it. At present, it is a muddle with a pointless gift shop and an ugly and highly overpriced tea room. What a wasted opportunity.

Water for pooches as we brought our dog luckily own water....The courtyard is beautiful... But I,d add fairy lights.... Flowers and lil ornaments to make it a secret garden styleeee....(but these are my opinions only)

Called by Walberswick after a visit to Southwold. The weather was inclement, overcast and with a slight chill. Chanced upon this little tea room on our stroll through the village. We sat in the small pretty courtyard garden as we had our young dog with us. The weather was kind to us over the tea. Both the young staff were very pleasant. Once our order was taken, it came quickly. The homemade scones were freshly baked, still warm and really delicious. The fine strawberry jam and clotted cream were of generous portions. The tea was good and came with a jug of hot water to top up. This is the best cream tea we have tasted so far. We had a few in Dorset, Devon, Cornwall and elsewhere over the years. Thank you and well done to the cook. A fine way to end the day out. Will visit again when we are next in the area.

Really enjoyed our visit to the tearooms and adjoining shop. Pretty outdoor seating area. Delicious sweet treats. Love the pottery in which tea and food are served. Will certainly be back when next visiting Walberswick.

Small tea room on the side of a lovely gift shop. Service was a little slow but staff were friendly and the chocolate and beetroot cake was divine!

Today I had a cream tea at Betty's internationally famous tearoom in Harrogate. Last week we had a cream tea at the Parish Lantern, and it was far better than Betty's, as well as being less expensive. The scones are lighter, better flavoured and bigger. The cream and jam were at least as good and the service was less "mechanical". What's more, we didn't have to queue for a seat!

Very welcoming and happily made us a much needed sandwich even though they had officially stopped serving. Thank you for taking pity on us

This is easily the best place in the area for a cream tea. The scones were fresh and warmed, and just delicious. All served on beautifully matching Brixton Pottery. If the weather's good, the courtyard is a lovely place to enjoy your tea.

We regularly stop at the Parish Lantern at the start of our walk to Southwold and back. We were a little surprised on our last visit to find the prices had risen significantly - £2.95 for 2 buttered crumpets !!

This is a fascinating gift shop with tearoom alongside, but don't miss the outside tables located in the walled garden at the back, which is a real suntrap and completely shielded from any wind direction. Particular recommendation goes to the ice cream available in tasty flavours (especially the rhubarb and ginger)

Like some other reviewers, I consider this to be at the expensive end of the spectrum. I suspect there's an attempt going on to compensate for the relative lack of visitors during the winter months; but, leaving the cost aside, the Parish Lantern is a charming little tea room attached to an interesting and tempting (but, again, expensive) gift shop. I suspect our cake had been around for a day or two, and the enormous splodge of whipped cream which surmounted it (and which, of course, must be paid for, even though it was not advertised) was a little off-putting. Perhaps they could make cream optional rather than foisting it on people.

We stopped for a cup of tea and scones with jam & cream. The scones came up warm with plenty of jam, cream and butter. Tea was perfect served in very pretty china, along with extra hot water. We left feeling refreshed - thank you!

Have been here before and Walberswick is lovely,I can't help feeling that due to the fact there isn't much there you become a captive audience and are charged accordingly. The food was good as was the service, but I often come out of places like this feeling like Ive been "done". Both cafes/tearooms in the vicinity I have been to and both in my opinion are overpriced.

Yes it's a bit pricey but the scones are delicious, plenty of jam and cream, the staff are really friendly and the courtyard garden is sheltered and comfortable.

Cold and windy day, sat outside in the lovely walled sheltered garden and soaked up the warm sun. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate hit the spot in warming us up. Homemade doughnut and brownies were excellent. A great find, will be back.

Pot of tea made with one cup tea bags, and stale cake served with cream in an attempt to liven it up. Expensive for what it was!

We have stopped in this tearoom a few times in the past years but never thought to leave a review so here goes. Yes I suppose it is a little expensive but the quality of the food and drink is very good. The cakes are delicious and scones with jam and cream are my favourite..... real cream and not the cheap stuff sprayed from a can. Tea and coffee are nice too. Service is always pleasant.

We stopped at the tea room for two take away hot chocolates and were staggered to be charged £6.30. They were just average hot chocolate drinks served in paper cups with lids....no cream, no marshmallows and no chocolate sprinkles!! Later found we could have had a hot chocolate from the Co-op store for £1.49 each and I would suggest you go there instead!

Lovely garden, very good home made food and a great place to spend an hour on a summers day. We have been going to Walbersick for at least 35 years and it still retains a '50's' charm. The parish lantern tea room reflects the charm of this village by the sea.

Had a short stop at this lovely cafe on a walk to Southwold. Served by a truly lovely young lady who also helped us with directions for our walk. The beautiful outside eating area was a really relaxing place to be with a true tea shop atmosphere. Coffee and tea all served in attractive cups and saucers and the chococlate cake was delicious. We feel it compared favorably in price to other tea rooms and believe me we have visited many! Don't hesitate to give this a visit if you are in Walberswick, you wont be disappointed.

We know Walberswick is popular and can be pricey but we treated ourselves to lunch here and it was lovely. The food was tasty and beautifully presented with pretty crockery. The garden area was a great place to sit on a sunny day. Service was a bit slow but we were on holiday and not in any rush and the staff were friendly. The shop is good to browse in and we bought two shirts in the sale. Glad we went!

This place was famous for its doughnuts, cup of tea and a freshly made doughnut - bliss! No longer, at least that's what the waitress told us so that came as a big disappointment. The shop itself seems just as good with lots of things you just can't buy in big retail outlets. Love that, but give the tearoom a miss until they put the doughnuts back on the menu

Situated in an excellent location with little surrounding competition leading us to feel they were taking full advantage and charging far too much without consideration of value. One baked potato, an egg sandwich with a pot of tea £16.95. The service was extremely slow even though we were alone in the restaurant. Whilst we were there two couples left as they were not served and decided not to wait. Our food was no more than average. When we finally managed to pay, my card was given back to me with the words 'Here are' not a thank you for your custom in there anywhere. Would not recommend this experience.

There is a small garden with 5/6 tables behind the shop. Walled, with plenty of plants and really a lovely place to sit. Unless you knew it was here then would miss it. Used a couple of times with Good coffee and enjoyable bacon bap. Some of food is a bit pricey. Several of tables are not viewable from the serving area so do go up to the hatch and collect menu or order as you could wait sometime for someone to come out.

After a longer than expected walk from Dunwich (lovely but exhausting) we went to the Parish Lantern for Tea. They were obviously busy as it was a beautiful sunny day, and we just managed to get a table in the lovely garden. Three of us ordered tea and cake, and my friend had a homemade doughnut with jam and cream which was absolutely huge! Although not cheap, the food was delicious and the garden was beautiful with friendly and helpful staff, who were more than happy to show us a shorter route home! P.S Child and dog friendly.

A proper pub, good friendly service , well kept beers with an ever changing guest ale, no food just good conversation in a pleasant environment. If you long for a traditional well run pub serving good ale the Old Mariners is for you.

Tried to arrange our engagement party here and is the worst communication and service from the event organiser I have ever received. Constantly ignored even when it got to the point of going into the sea you to speak to the lady who organises. Had to keep chasing for responses and in the end was just ignored and never got back to. Is a real shame as we really liked the cafe there but will not be returning after the way we were treated.
