Fabulous food, friendly waitress. Nice environment. The cakes looked lovely and a great portion. We had the two platters, see pics. Mine was fish. Very tasty

We visited the pantry to meet with a friend. Not seeing any gluten free options, we asked for advice and were "flung" a gluten free menu. A different waitress took my order, which I pointed to on this menu. I later indicated to our waitress, what I believed to be the delicious gluten free bread on my plate, having already eaten some. She was extremely apologetic and informed me it was not a gluten free meal I had been given, and said that I would not have to pay for my meal. I accepted her apology, and it would have been left there, but my daughter on paying the bill was asked was everything satisfactory. She started to explain the problem we encountered and was interrupted by Nicky, the person who had given us the menu, in a very abrupt and rude manner telling her it was my fault for not saying the menu I ordered from was the gluten free one- something of which I assumed the waitress had been aware! The waitress herself was extremely polite and concerned about the effects I would suffer from eating gluten. I would warn anyone with allergies to be aware of the "managers" attitude to food safety at this establishment, and recommend that she undertake some training in customer relations!

Just been for a lunch at our usual cafe where I go to meet a friend several times a year when visiting Newmarket. I am on this occasion extremely disappointed! We were bought a menu and as there was nothing marked gluten free, we asked what was available. The lady who we have since discovered was the manager bought us a gluten free menu. Which my mum needed for dietary reasons. A different waitress came and took the order. Where my mum pointed and read out her choice of dish from the gluten free menu Once we were halfway through eating we enquired if they sold the gf bread as we wanted to purchase some to take home. It was only then that the waitress realised the gluten free requirement. If the manageress had communicated earlier that she had handed the gf menu out or if in fact the gf menu was a different colour this would never have happened. I tried to address this to Nicki the manageress and she was very flippant and dismissive and blaming the customer for the oversight. I’m assuming she is the owner and will take this onboard and ensure It doesn’t happen again. As this could have been a fatal error. Which needs to be avoided again. The waitress who served our food apologised profusely as she realised the potential consequences of this error. The manager on the other hand couldn’t have given a damn !

Super friendly staff welcomed and served us. We had the deli boards which were tasty and came with gorgeous warm focaccia. Cakes looked amazing but sadly no room for them!

Food awful! Scone dry and not even warmed. Lunch was tasteless. Had to ask twice to pay bill. Was not very well at the time so could not hang around to discuss the issues. Would not even consider going again have eaten better at Mac Donald’s and I would hardly ever go there either.

Called in here whilst in the centre of town. We ordered drinks and cake. The coffee and walnut cake was dry and had hardly any coffee flavour, and the carrot cake was wet and highly flavoured. Neither were very nice. Once we were shown to a table we waited ages for a staff member to come to take our order. There were four members of staff standing together having a conversation and in fact we watched another customer come inside and stand for ages waiting for a table only to be ignored. She then sat herself down and still no one served her so she went to the counter and ordered herself. Customer service is important in this type of business and such a shame when staff can’t be bothered.

This was my first experience today at The Pantry, which spoilt our day to be honest. I can't rate the food as we had waited over 35 minutes for an order that never arrived. A Lady who I am assuming was the manager or supervisor took our order and she made a fuss with a trainee showing her how cutlery was laid on the table. The Manager told us about the Specials being Tomato and Basil soup, a Lobster dish and the Pork terrine dish. We was waiting for Pork terrine with Sour dough bread and pickles and a Steak burger and fries which shouldn't take long to make. A waitress noticed we was still waiting for food when other customers who had arrived after us had been served their food order. The Waitress went to find out what was taking so long and we was told that our food order ticket hadn't been passed on to the kitchen. The Manager who originally took our order who looked like she was training a young lady didn't bother to take responsibility for the mishap and didn't seem to look like she cared neither as I could see the other waitress speaking to her about it and the Manager who took our order didn't make the effort to approach us to apologise for her mistake. The Waitress after realising that we had been waiting for a long time started clearing up tables and we were waiting further for someone to speak to us about the food order mishap. Rather than wait another lengthy period for our food order, we asked for the bill for our drinks. Eventually after no direct apology from the Manager who originally took our order, our drinks were given on the house by the Waitress. The Manager made such a fuss about cutlery placement at the beginning but failed to give good customer service. The Service was extremely poor. Not what you'd expect from a business advertising themselves as a 'Fine food shop and eatery' as their shop sign. There was nothing fine about their service and I definitely will not be recommending them nor will I be visiting again.

Warmish welcome, staff shouting swear words, about something out the back of the restaurant. I had £16.00 burger and chips, which was nothing to write home about. It came first time undercooked for my taste, it was put right. Don't advise this place

Amazing cheesecake! Chocolate and honeycomb - homemade too. You can really tell as it was such a high quality. Would definitely come here again just for that. Coffee was lovely too.

We went for lunch on a Sunday. The food was really dreadful and unbelievably over priced. Would not recommend it to anyone.

After 30 minutes I was scoring here a maximum of two stars but on exit they merit it. We ordered coffees which came quickly enough but our food was so slow that even after two cups each there was still no indication of food arrival. Eventually I enquired. There was an immediate full apology and told our coffees would be free but there had been a problem in the kitchen. The food then arrived with a further apology and invitation to more drinks. That impressed especially as I had been grumpy about something else that had happened that morning. The food was excellent. The something else? Trying to pay for Parking by phone. Efforts to download the Ringgo app resulted in two spam companies seeking payment so two cards compromised, one only briefly but the other I chose to cancel to be ultra safe. A pound coin was only needed. I must stop thinking I'm royalty and carry the odd coin.

We had a delicious meal with a heavenly dessert. The staff were attentive and super lovely - thanks in particular to Helen! Great value for money…

Waited for some time to be seated. The chair I sat on wants repair or removed from use until done. Does know one check them? The cover was cracked with top having some bits missing. ( see picture). Slow service from being given menu and when taken to to receive two scones and tea. The tea was nice in individual pot. Note some people got their tea in mugs with a tea bag being told not enough pots? Perhaps they should of gone to Greggs! The biggest disappointment was the scones they were both very heavy/dense consistency and made eating them hard work some even left. The fruit on tasted OK the cheese one tasted more of mustard and not cheese.

Visited here whilst passing through, out shopping in Newmarket on holiday and glad we did. The premises looked clean and more (dare I say it, last than some of the others nearby). Glad we did visit as found the waitress service to be very prompt, polite and professional. The menu was varied and catered for most tastes. As it was late afternoon, both me and my partner opted for a homemade scone, one with butter only, the other with cream and jam. This was served with a good sized pot of fresh leaf tea. The food arrived quickly. The homemade scones were so delicious and well baked with the leaf tea also very nice, so obviously a good brand was used. To finish everything off and given the lovely modern surroundings of the pantry, upon receiving the bill, I was extremely pleased to see that the cost was so much cheaper than what I was envisaging and of such good value. Even with a tip, it was so worth it! What a shame we live too far away to visit here regularly. Would heartily recommend this beautiful establishment to anybody visiting in the area, you will not be disappointed.

We have walked past this place so many times thinking it looks expensive. This time we decided to go with it.The initial contact with staff was outstanding, we ordered our meals still thinking "its a bit expensive "How wrong were we, I ordered the Beer Battered Fish and Chips with pureed peas and home-made tarter sauce my partner ordeted Mac and Cheese with garlic bread.Well how wrong can one be.It was one of the best meals we have had for a very very long time, everything was cooked to perfection, the chips out of this world the fish so fresh and light tarter sauce that should be made available to take home and the mac and cheese best ever, all this combined with tastes that most have forgotten about. Everything was well worth every penny ❤ Just can't believe we waited so long before eating there, but definitely going back next week and can see us visiting regularly. 100% highly recommended To sum up.Fantastic out of this world to die for tasty food Superb friendly polite staffVery reasonably priced.Go on it's worth it.

I came and ate breakfast outside the other morning. I ordered orange juice, decaf latte and eggs benedict. All were lovely, a very enjoyble breakfast.

Our first post-lockdown meal out was brunch at the pantry and as always it was delicious.They have the best takeaway sourdough and the best plant based milk for tea. I had to double check rhey hadn't given me normal milk!Great service, well spaced tables, good quality produce. Cannot fault it!They have done a brilliant job during lockdown and are an asset to the town.

Overpriced. A pleasant atmosphere and a nice sandwich but nothing special and not worth the price of £17 for two sandwiches and a bottle of water. Staff were friendly.

We ate here with two friends looking to see which restaurants/pubs are handling COVID-19 safety measures well. The set up was excellent, QR code on a table outside the front door for track and trace and hand sanitiser. Inside the tables are very well spaced out and it was clean and welcoming. The full menu was on offer plus specials. The food was great with attentive, friendly service. We were really impressed. This is a great place to eat and meet.

The Service here was friendly and quick. The menu looked good, but they had run out of a number of things we asked for. What we did have was good - the hummus in particular. I would be happy to go back and give it another go.

Since opening up we have gone for their wonderful breakfast. What a let down, bacon was like shoe leather and mushrooms were slimy.Spent 4 months waiting for this. Gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried a second time but it was jus as awful.They might have lost their chef; I would have thought with less tables and customers they would take extra care. There is so much competition in Newmarket they need to make more effort.

Have been eating in the Pantry for over 5 years and I’ve never been let down! Food is amazing and they cater to my needs with sometimes asking for specific ratios - it’s never a problem! Staff are always happy and welcoming!

We have eaten here several times and the food is always good, the service is always excellent. It can sometimes be very busy in there but it's worth the wait.

I’ve been here once before, maybe 8 years ago. And I was really unimpressed. The location is perfect with full windows on two sides and it’s a lovely room to sit and eat in. Light and airy with lots of natural wood. These people used to own The Tack Room in town, which did really great food but the staff were always distracted and vague. That was then abandoned overnight. Today I noticed that the same chef now works at The Pantry so I was excited. The last time I ate here I had a very meager portioned lunch lacking in imagination and flavour (maybe choosing pasta was a mistake. As an Italian I’ve eaten pasta dishes made by 8 year olds that tasted better). I then tried some homemade gluten free cake - which again was perhaps a mistake as I am a multiple award winning baker. But I love to try cakes and bakes when I’m out and about. So - the cake was over sweet and tasteless (Lemon Drizzle ... come on!)Today I went with a friend for, really, just a cuppa and a catch up. However. It seems the staff are under instruction to get a food order from patrons no matter what. We went in at 10.30am. It wasn’t busy so we obviously felt we could have a relaxing meet up. As soon as we sat down the server was beside us with a pad and pen out asking for our drink order. Okay. We ordered - bemused but we ordered. Within 30 seconds she was back asking what out food order was. We didn’t even think to say we don’t want food as it was so quick we both said ‘we’ve not had a chance to even look at the menu.’After that she came back every 2 minutes asking for our order. It was so frequent that we laughed. She then said, when you’re ready give me a wave. We never waved But she was back with another half a dozen demands for an order. It was embarrassing. By then it was perhaps 10.45 and we ordered food. My friend asked for a bacon sandwich and I asked for the avocado on toast with grilled tomatoes. The server then pressed me to add more to my order - eggs, bacon, sausages?I would have hoped that my soya based drink would have given an experienced and professional caterer pause that I may be vegan. But not at The Pantry. Obviously they have to go for the upsell no matter how offensive they are.As I say, the food at The Tack Room was excellent and I think I gave false hopes to my friend because as soon as we’d sat down I spotted him and I told her how good he was. And I think that that gave us confidence to order food we didn’t actually want. My friends sandwich came on pappy cheap white sliced bread (2 slices of bacon) £5.My avocado on toast came with dry grilled tomatoes. Honestly - this is my profession. I’ve never seen a tomato just grilled and plonked onto a plate. There was a good pinch of watercress covering the really paltry amount of avocado. And the watercress was dry too. No dressing? Seriously? It was so dry it stuck to the roof of my mouth and my teeth. £7.Honestly. I know this place is always busy. Why?It’s terrible. It’s overpriced. The actual’ hospitality’ is non existent.They make no effort to hide the fact that one you enter they are coming at you for as much money as they can screw out of you. It should be ashamed of itself. It needs to rethink what it’s playing at. I’m sure it’s making money, it’s popular, and it’s extremely pleased with itself. When I paid it suggested the percentage to satisfaction ratio for my gratuity.I am a professional so I left a monetary tip. I sincerely hope they pay serious attention to this tip about its methods and production.

Frischer geht nicht.Frisches Foccacia und Sauerteigbrot.Ich hatte als Vorspeise Hummus und Brot. Frisch und gut gewürzt. Das beste Hummus, welches ich je hatte. Food is very good. Presentation is somewhat simple and not refined but you don't really expect that here. It's perfect for a very nice lunch.Staff very friendly. Service efficient. You can look into the kitchen which is always a plus. Not very cheap but reasonable value for money. Not necessarily worth a special trip but, taking everything into account, highly recommended if you're in the area.

I have been to The Pantry a view times with good experiences - and the food is good too. But on the most recent visit a friend and myself had a very unpleasant experience. We went to the counter to order - halfway up, the sever shouted 'I'll bring menus to your table' across the restaurant despite other people ordering at the counter. When we had sat down, she came and dumped the menus on our table without looking at us and without saying a single word - she then turned around and walked away whilst looking very hostile. It was extremely uncalled for - I have no idea what my friend and I did to annoy/upset the staff, but we are quite regular customers. The server who took our order treated us with indifference, unsmiling and unfriendly. During our short stay we could see multiple servers talking and looking our way from the counter. I really have no idea what warranted this response.

This was my second visit here and it was great! They have great options for vegan/ vegetarian along side meat dishes so plenty of variety. The service is very warm and welcoming. We stayed a little while just chatting after we finished our food and the team didn’t mind at all, which was lovely not to feel rushed out. Great coffee, great food, great service! Will definitely be back!

After several breakfast and coffee and cake visits, we again were not disappointed. Excellent food and excellent waitress Michelle. Will not be our last evening visit.

The Pantry really is a diamond. The food is great, and the service is superb. It is very clear that the staff at The Pantry have been trained on how to deal with customers. Will certainly visit again.
