The food is excellent and so are the staff. It is a very friendly country style cafe with a homely feel. Their breakfasts are fab. So are their dinners and a great choice of deserts. Their pies are fab nice and meaty with no fat. Served with whatever you want. However, with their special potatoes & peas they are lovely. There is a great choice of food and it is all home made. Claire and family who run it are so nice and they are very attentive and helpful. We call it our local and we would not go anywhere else. Well done to all the staff.

Me and my partner visited here, we are new to the area and this looked like a nice little spot. We entered and waited around 7 mins before someone acknowledged us ( there were staff walking in and out the kitchen looking at us) we could see they were busy so we gave it the benefit of the doubt. We were given a table in the corner of the room which we couldn’t move as there were customers basically sat on each others knees it was very small. We got the waitress attention after around 15 mins and she asked us what we wanted and we hadn’t even been given a menu which I found very odd. We wasn’t sure if we ordered at the till or it was table service. We basically just got shown to a table in the corner. The staff were nice and friendly it just seemed chaotic. No one had a role, they were ALL in the kitchen, they were ALL give the food out and taking payment . ALL showing people to the table ect it was just a bit much and I felt stressed watching them in such a tiny place. The food it’s self was nice enough and the venue is lovely and quaint which we loved. We then got up to ask for the bill as we hadn’t seen anyone. Instead of taking our payment one stood round chatting to customers, one was laying a table and taking food and the other was in the kitchen and we waited well over 5 minutes at the till waiting for someone to charge us. Then to be told they don’t take card … it’s was all a bit of a shambles. It would have been nicer to receive that information when we walked in and was shown to the table. Not the best experience but not sure if this was just a bad day for the place.

We went here for breakfast on a few mornings, whilst visiting the area. We were a party of 8 and found the staff and food were excellent. It’s a family run cafe, and they do all their own baking, we even made purchases to takeout. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Visited this place for a breakfast with a colleague who goes every week, my scrambled egg+beans+tomatoes arrived at the table and I started to eat it,then to my surprise and disgust my toast had green mould on both slices,I informed the lady right away,on doing so she offered me a choice to replace the breakfast or to replace the toast, i was only on a short morning break I said just replace the toast,a young man came out with my new toast,he pointed out by saying its a good job it was not toasted bread or you would not have seen it,the fact is that it was that mouldy you could seen even when toasted, the owner came out also, but did not say sorry to me, but apologised to my friend for the green mould,my friend told the owner its not me you need to apologise to its my friend next to me,but he carried on talking to him and completely blanked me,very rude indeed, we proceeded to go to pay the bill, they did not offer any reduced rate, but charged me full price and the owner come to say sorry to my friend again and again he completely blanked me,knowing it was my breakfast with green mouldy toast on,this man is blind to the fact of shear ignorance, I would not recommend this place to anyone!!

Staying at the nearby Hayes Conference Centre, we went in search of a local cafe and came across this fabulous tea shop. Great food kept my two fussy girls happy who couldn't wait to tuck into the cakes. I opted for a Stilton Quiche which was great! Tea served in cups and saucers and the owner who addressed everyone as 'duck' what is there not to like? Come on duck - go and visit!

I visited here with my family for breakfast. We all had full English breakfast, which were incredible & very filling! My husband is really particular with his coffee and we all tried the “house roast” coffee which is unique to the pantry! We were blow away, it was amazing! Served by a lovely young girl who was incredibly polite. We loved the coffee so much, after talking with the owner Paul, we walked away with a 1kg bag of coffee. We will definitely we using these on a regular basis, as it’s the best coffee in Derbyshire!! Everyone who reads this you must go to the pantry & buy this coffee! Myself and 3 friends had afternoon tea today and it was delicious. Lovely choices and scrumptious cakes. It was the first time for 2 of us in this quaint decorated tearoom. We were made very welcome from the instant we entered the premises. As it is only a small eating area it was cosy but we would definitely go again. We learned that there is an outside eating area but we picked a very wet day so could not give an opinion on this. It would be better to book a table to make sure. Easy to get to on the main Ripley to Alfreton road and also get off the A38 Alfreton turn off and the sign for Swanwick plus it is on the bus route. Can't wait for our next treat. It also has a take away and sells delicious pies and pastries.

Visit The Pantry regularly as it is close to home. It is very tiny (only 5 tables I think) so I would definitely book to avoid disappointment, although there is a small outdoor seating area if the weather is good. It is easy to find on the main road through Swanwick. There is no car park but it is usually possible to park on the road without too much difficulty. The family who run The Pantry are an absolute delight, so friendly and always welcoming. The majority of the food is home made, I would particularly recommend the scones which are amazing, their breakfast & sandwiches although to be honest I don’t think you would be disappointed whatever you chose to eat.A little gem in my opinion.

Went here last Friday for afternoon tea, we had booked this a week earlier, and were told by the guy we booked with that they may not be open as his wife was expecting, but took our number and said he would call us if that was the case.On the morning we were going for our tea we hadn't heard so my husband rang up the tea rooms, and asked if we were still okay to come, telling them it was for afternoon tea and what time, they said it was fine, we were welcome to comeUpon our arrival the owner I presume, the man making the food was extremely rude, saying that they were not expecting us and that there was no ham left, and then he went and fetched a new ham , but kept saying we could have it but it would be hot on our sandwiches. I felt really uncomfortable, as if they did not want us thereThe afternoon tea was very mediocre, and we would not return, as this was a gift from, my son and his partner, we have not told them, as they would be upset, but if you go make sure they are expecting you ( we thought after phoning that morning ) that they would be expecting us.I have been here before on several occasions with my son and all was okay, but never again

I have been on several visits to the pantry with several members of mine and my girlfriends family. We had the afternoon tea and having tried many afternoon teas at many venues this is a winner hands down. The bread is so fresh the fillings so much and the cakes so so more-ish. The staff make you feel welcome from start to finish and can't do enough for you. Ok their might not be a car park their but so what there is plenty of space around or a few minutes either side are two pub car parks. You get endless tea or coffee and plenty of food. Being honest even the mad hatter would come for tea hear everyday and would never get sick of it. This place is a little gem of a find and if you want honest well prepared food look no further. I've been visiting the village of Swanwick in Derbyshire from London on and off now for about 10 years, and I'm really kicking myself that I have not discovered The Pantry sooner. It really is worth a visit, and here's why:1. It's the quintessential English tearoom: cosy, pretty, and charmingly decorated with a lovely collection of teapots and other paraphernalia associated with the ritual of afternoon tea. Exposed beams and large windows add to the ambience. 2. It's small and intimate, allowing for attentive and efficient service by the staff. However, plans to add a summer house and a gazebo which can be used for all year round dining, are well under way.3. It's the only decent tearoom in the village. It's easy to find, on the Derby Road just north of the parish church (whose square steeple you can't miss). Street parking is plentiful. 4. The afternoon tea we had was lovely! The plump warm fresh scones we had were delicious; there's plain, fruit and cheese scones to chose from. They were served with ample clotted cream and jam. There was also a good selection of fresh cakes and slices to choose from, as well as the more abundant afternoon tea stand, laden with sandwiches, scones and cakes. 5. It's not just a tearoom. This little spot serves breakfast, as well as light lunch options such as freshly-made soups, sandwiches, baps laden with delicious fillings, quiches and pies. There's also a deli counter selling locally sourced products, including Hartington Creamery cheeses (Derbyshire cheese!). 6. Attentive, friendly, cheerful and welcoming service by the owners / hosts adds to the lovely experience provided by The Pantry!Seriously, it's worth a diversion off the A38 into the village.

Chose cheese pie which was lacking in seasoning and unfortunately was served with soggy pastry so can only guess had been microwaved. The remainder of the food was nice though with reasonable portion size. The staff were friendly but the server cleaned our table, and another, after seating us spraying cleaning products onto a plastic tablecloth leaving the surface wet, the air tainted and running the risk of splashing people's clothes - or worse. The premises are quite small and was very busy even though early in the week so is clearly popular but I feel needs a few tweaks.

A lovely but very small tea room, I find its best to book. A friendly and very welcoming atmosphere with super friendly and attentive staff. The afternoon tea for two which was a birthday treat for me was the best value I have experienced having been to different venues for an afternoon tea. The tiered cake stand was bulging with substantial sandwiches on brown and white bread of the home made variety not sliced bread. There was a good variety of fillings for the sandwiches. The scones, jam and clotted cream were out of this world and there was a lovely variety of small and sliced cakes, the tea pot was replenished numerous times and we left feeling delightfully stuffed. The tearoom itself is very small but cosy and decorated in a very charming and pretty way with old fashioned tea pots and tea sets and tablecloths no longer it seems used by anyone. As it was my birthday I was given a complimentary Lemon Muffin by the owner, but if given enough time they will organize a birthday cake..... we didn't give enough notice only booking a table on the day of my birthday. We are lucky enough to live in the village where this tea room is so we can visit any time and when we do we are always greeted as if its a first visit..... such lovely people. There is a very nice ice cream parlour also selling Bradwells ice cream and a nice sitting area outside where you can sit with your dog. They do super sausage cobs to take away which are a meal in themselves infact all their cobs are enormous and have a good selection of pies pasties, quiche etc as well as a very nice menu in the café. The bread and cakes sold by them are second to none. Its worth an afternoon of anyones time to visit this lovely hidden surprise in a friendly village. The tearoom is situated on a main road at Swanwick and sometimes parking can be a problem, there is a village car park not far away and its possible to find parking on the roadside sometimes. The afternoon tea was wonderful value for money, much cheaper than some leading hotels, and we got twice as much as they served, and in a much nicer atmosphere. Well done " The Pantry" keep it up.

We brought mum here for afternoon tea for Mother's Day. It's a small but very cosy room and we were instantly greeted and made to feel very welcome. We were taken to our table where afternoon tea was already set up for us. There was plenty of choice and everything was delicious. The staff were attentive, checking our tea regularly and topping us up with milk. There was absolutely no feeling of being rushed (even though it must be one of the busiest days of the year for them!) and we spent a good hour inside, even though we'd finished our food in half that time. The atmosphere is friendly, the decor is very 'chintzy' but in a really cute and adorable way. All of the crockery is really olde-worlde, transporting you back to when you would visit grandma and have tea in her front room.I highly recommend this as a place to visit and eat. A friend of mine lives around the corner from The Pantry and has had an evening meal there and says that it's excellent. If the quality is anything like the afternoon tea that we had, I wouldn't doubt her.

Although the tables were full and it was too cold to sit at the outside tables, we were given a lovely coffee on the house while waiting. There was a good choice of meals, snacks and desserts at good prices. Our steak pie was delicious and plentiful. The atmosphere was lovely and we will visit again very soon.

What a quintessentially English tea room. At £8.95 the cream tea was absolutely value for money and I could not fault it. The staff were so lovely and attentive. This is a real treasure of a place.will be back again.

I have been to the pantry about five times now, and it never disappoints. The staff are fantastic and they bake some fantastic cakes. Its a lovely place for a nice quite lunch. and I have been unable to find any faults thus far. They have just opened up an Ice Cream parlor, and an outside seating area, which is great if you are on a walk, and just want to take the weight off your feet. They also have bistro evening events that are truly amazing, but you will have to book well in advance as they are sold out as soon as they are announced. As Sugababe2 said this is a little gem of a place and well worth the trip.

We were really looking forward to trying the afternoon tea here, after we had been bought a voucher for a treat by a friend, however it was such a disappointment. The bread the sandwiches were on, was dry and the filling was just in the middle of the sandwich the corners were empty not even any butter, the cakes were so sad it was heartbreaking, and this was a pre booked afternoon tea so they could make everything "fresh" there was 2 scones (very heavy) a lavender scone (why?!) and a fruit scone - jam and cream to go with these, a small triangle of millionaire shortbread (the shortbread was so dry it was like sand) and a small chunk of something with fruit and oats in. It made it worse when we looked at someone else's afternoon tea on the way out the door and theirs looked a million times better than ours did! (Regulars maybe?) There really was nothing redeeming about this afternoon tea. As a few of the previous reviews seem to say it's very cliquey. Very sad to leave this review but like I say there was nothing redeeming at all, I just can't find any positives.

My wife and I recently moved to Swanwick and heard about the Pantry from friends in the area.it is a converted house with an intimate interior decorated with beautiful memorabilia. All the food is freshly cooked on the premises which is staffed and run by one family. The welcome is very friendly, service is great, food is great I had a home made Cornish pie with gravy and peas. Fabulous. Their fillet steak pie is also great. Their bread and cakes are also brilliant freshly baked and made on the premises. I understand they are planning to extend the premise so more people can use them. I can highly recommend it not only for a refreshing cup of tea and cake but for all your bakery needs.

This lovely tea rooms is a real gem, run by really nice friendly people who cant do enough for you. We had some of the best home made soup and freshly baked ham sandwiches. Great coffee and lots of cakes and other goodies from the deli to take away with you. Recommend to reserve a table as this place is quite small and if you are travelling a long way you don't want to be disappointed and not get a table.

WOW WOW WOW!!!! What an amazing place, such a hidden gem in the lovely town of Swanwick! The Pantry is really quirky and has such a homely feel with a lovely welcoming family who own the place. I attended one of the new bistro evenings the pantry have started to hold on Thursday evenings. From what I gather they offer different themed evenings such as Italian and Steak etc. I have been to the last steak night and all I can say is YUM and a big congrats to the chef! There are not many places where the chef actually comes out of the kitchen to ask everyone on a personal basis if they are enjoying their meal. With little candles on the tables its a perfect place to have an evening with your partner! Dont hesitate to get booked in...mind you, you could be waiting a while as they are fully booked until Feb that's how popular this evening night is! I have also been for the afternoon tea here so if you cant get in for the bistro and you want to go over the xmas break as a treat the afternoon teas are just as good. Claire and her family will make anyone feel at home and ensure everyone has a thoroughly good time! xx

Went to buy a Christmas Tree on my lunch break and called in on my way back to work. So glad I did, I had forgotten how nice it is. Managed to resist the cakes but they looked terrific. Recommend a visit for lunch or one of the lovely coffees with a cake

I am unsure if i should review this event as it might lead to it becoming so popular I will not be able to get in again...!!!! What a great evening we had, the Host's Paul' Angela,Claire & Joe made us feel most welcome as always. All the food is home cooked and delicious, the Pantry is only small but the atmosphere was very cosy, and as it was a very cold & misty night this made it even more special. Angela explained that this was only the 3rd event of this kind, and they felt that they now had the measure of what was required for future events. We had dropped our own wine off earlier in the day so we just had a leisurely walk into the village centre. If you manage to attend one of these evenings you will not be disappointed, I'm certainly going to be returning and it's the Bistro night next and then the steak night and then.......... Go and enjoy

The Pantry is exactly what's needed in the local area. It makes such a refreshing change from the usual greasy spoons and chain coffee shops so I was really looking forward to trying it out.I certainly wasn't disappointed! We were given a warm welcome and even though we hadn't booked a table, we were seated quickly. I should add here that we were very lucky to get a table as all of the others were reserved. We will definitely call ahead next time!We were given time to browse the menu and were neither rushed or left for too long. The choice wasn't huge but the choices were interesting and varied. They had run out of a couple of options but it didn't cause us any disappointment as there were lots of tempting choices. Our drinks arrived quickly and our food not long after. The portions were plentiful and the food very attractively presented. Delicious! We didn't have time to have pudding but couldn't resist using the takeaway service to buy some and eat at home. No disappointment there either! We will most certainly be returning to The Pantry very soon as we were so impressed by the lovely atmosphere, staff and food. Keep up the good work please!Oh and we definitely not regulars ;-)

I'd called in once before during the summer to buy some scones when the restaurant was thronged so I was looking forward to bringing my dad in as I thought it looked like his kind of place, with lots of old people, a real olde worlde teashoppe. He can't walk far so by the time we'd parked safely away from the busy junction and walked to the Pantry he was gagging for a cup of tea. The service was slow considering the staff were busy nattering to each other and to the people at the two other occupied tables, and we waited a good ten minutes till anyone came near us to take our order. Our first two choices weren't available so we ordered sandwiches but were gasping for a cuppa. This also took ages to arrive. The sandwiches themelves were very nice when they did arrive, but we both felt that we'd wandered into a social club that we weren't members of. The warm welcome that I've read about before writing this review was certainly not extended to us. We weren't asked if we were enjoying the sandwiches and even after we'd finished and the plates were empty, we sat there for a while hoping the waiter would look over at us and ask if we wanted anything more or even come to collect the plates. This was especially noticeable as they seemed to have all the time in the world to talk to the others, who I suppose were regulars. After trying to make this a special treat for my dad, it was a real let-down.

I love coming to The Pantry especially in the summer when it's warm/hot and sit in the courtyard, and now they have opened an Ice cream & Milkshake Parlour well couldn't ask for anything more.Great for passing cyclists room for their bikes so they can sit inside or outside for a cuppa and a great chunk of cake to get them home. Going again today taking my mother in law for a treat for breakfast yum yum. Thanks to Claire & Angela and crew make you feel really welcome and couldn't do anything more to make your visit any better.

I only called in for a takeaway sandwich but the quality was amazing. The staff were friendly whilst my sandwich was being made and the cafe was full and had a good atmosphere. The ham was 'on the bone' and the salad was lovely. The bread was fresh AND it was the same price as a 'plastic' sandwich you would buy in Tesco or Sainsbury.I will make a B line for this place if I am in the area again.

Absolutely fantastic lunch here, with a fantastic selection of food and drink available. Our group went for the homemade steak pie and mushy peas and roast beef/pork rolls - all of which went down a treat. Followed with a few slices of homemade cake and we were all suitably stuffed! The prices were reasonable - if not cheap for what we all got! Service was consistently great. Highly recommended and will be back again and again!

Tight squeeze but this just makes it more friendly. Great service; owners and staff always chatty. Best thing is the range of cakes and have been a few times now and all cakes chosen were delicious. Went for breakfast once and the porridge was yummy. The only thing I would change is putting table cloths on as the tables feel sticky on bare arms. The addition of the courtyard is good. No problem with parking - just park slightly further away and walk off the cakes!

A quaint coffee shop, they do lunches but my favourite is tea and cakes. Lovely big pots of tea and very generous slices of cake, lots of choice and very good value, and great mismatched china. The court yard on a nice day is a lovely way to spend drinking your teaParking is an issue and there are places to park if you know where. Could try parking on pub down the road

Visted last week. They were not particularly busy and though the older gentleman was friendly our party of two adults and two teenagers were largely ignored by the counter staff. However, as we were ignored they hovered around others who they seemed to know on first name terms. It is a shame as we are local and would have returned if we had not been ignored whilst others were served. In future will stick to the Salt Pot who are always friendly, treat customers equally, reasonably priced and the money is used locally for the schools. I have marked as a three as the food was nice. Point off for making to be felt like my money was not good enough and another point off for the traffic issues the business is creating in the Village. These issues will need to be addressed to ensure longevity in the future.

I would like to say a huge thank you for helping me yesterday when I fell over opposite your cafe. The staff, especially Hayley, were amazing and so kind helping me into the cafe and providing an ice pack and drink of water. They allowed me to sit there as long as I wanted. By the way the coffee and cakes they serve are amazing! Thank you so much.

I called by for a quick breakfast sandwich takeaway before work. I wanted to spend at a local independent business and try somewhere new. I wish I hadn’t picked here… I ordered a sausage sandwich for £3 and chucked it straight in the bin after one bite. Chewy microwaved pre-cooked sausages on cheap white bread with a measly bit of ketchup. I wouldn’t even pay 50p for that. The owners should be ashamed of this… if this is the usual standard of food I’d expect them to be closed down soon.

The foods actually really good and it’s got a lovely garden area, just the service needs sorting out as it was terrible. It wasn’t particularly busy but it really took a long time. We visited a few weeks later, only to have to wait even longer to be served and then after receiving drinks and and placing our food order was told it was a 1h wait for food, would of been nice to have been advised about the food wait times as we where seated or when placing our drinks order. Hopefully management turn it around soon.
