I ate crisps so five stars obvs love crisps. Good pub, bit pricey I thought and defo a locals pub, everyone knew each other and shared inside jokes. Not for the fading hearted think ex builders n plumbers and you are on the right track. Darts team n a quality dj Bowser go join in. I will go back but it's a bit far from me to be a regular.

The lady with the blonde hair at the bar is sooo rude. We walked and she yelled at us in front of all the customers. Absolutely no respect for her customers.

Didn’t get food but had a couple of absolutely marvellous pints of creamy Guinness with domes that you could sleep on and for the amazing price of £3.55 each, local Guinness enthusiasts need to know about this place, a hidden gem 🫡

Quiet place to have a beer with friends

Down to earth local pub. No frills or fancies but good value and good pint of Staropramen. Artiste was loud but hey that's Saturday night!

As the pub is run by Craft Union expect cheaper drinks akin to Wetherspoons prices ie pint, large gin and white wine about 10 quid. No real ale on offer today normally they have London Pride, so John Smith's was the choice for me plenty of large and cider and gin if you want etc. TV screens on mute, so the music dominated a busy Friday night attracting mainly locals but a few passing trade. If you had enough of the pub you can pop to The Mars next door. Now the Painters is the only pub left in Lake Road that once had 23 pubs.....check it out if you like boozers.

Unfortunately I've been band for drinking water most of the time the thing I'm more annoyed about they happy to take my money I have it but cant support a vet of HM armed forces frustration of the lanrather than the way its being said so I'm going to the small claimes court for £1000.00 compensation split 2 way between me the and to the bui doi foundation in Horner of captain tom for children of past and present conflicts. I'm also put a request to the haug for the court of human right as water is no1 in he basic human need see you in court paiters arms and craft union also the leapldbut not the brewery tap the best price pub in portsmouth

Great little pub at the bottom of the high street, Nice friendly staff and quick service, Prices are very reasonably. The sea front is getting like London now, A real local pub but the folk seem friendly and chatty, Will deffo be back !!!

Never used to like this pub but has just been taken over with new management , extremely cheap , great atmosphere also very friendly and cheerful would 100% recommend , genuinely amazing pub with amazing new staff

This pub is just round the corner from my boyfriend's flat, so is in a great place for us! I have only been here during the period of having to be outside when at pubs, but it was a great experience. The staff were extremely nice, and had all the correct PPE. The outdoor seating area has a nice feel to it, and had a heater, so was good for when it got a bit chilly! I would highly recommend this pub, and I will be returning :)

Not my type of pub .some very friendly ppl there .I had arranged 2 meet someone there or I would not have gone past a woman with no teeth @ the door swearing n shouting abuse. Think she was shouting 2 herself no other person was there.

Amazing landlady and the locals are so friendly

On arrival to this pub they have a beer garden with plenty of seating, inside the pub it is very much an open planned pub which unless you are a "local" is not idea for seating. The prices of the alcohol is competitive to a wetherspoons, this would explain the clientele. The pub was full of foul mouthed pensioners whose every other word was a swear word. There were two members of staff working during my visit one female who I had no contact with and who appeared to be the landlord Neil. At first he seemed friendly enough instantly remembering my previous order on my second visit to the bar. However as the evening progressed my view on him and the pub changed completely. During the evening I overheard a female customer telling someone else that Neil refused to let two female friends go into the toilet at the same time, as a result a female who only had one kidney was forced to use the gents toilet. This appeared to be amusing to Neil who was also in the gents whilst the lady was in the cubicle. As the evening progressed it became harder to get served at the bar because both staff were outside smoking at the same time leaving the bar unattended. Whilst out in the beer garden I witnessed Neil pacing up and down on the phone to what seemed like his superior talking about a sister pub and how awful it was, and that the manager if that pub "wants to be a manager, but not manage". During this phone call there were two female friends outside. At some point one of the friends lifted the other in a bear hug, they lost their balance and fell to the floor. At first Neil appeared to have ignored this and continued his phonecall, however as soon as he had ended his call, he called the two friends together and began shouting at them, telling them to "behave or get out". At no point did Neil check on the girls welfare but instead seemed more concerned about the pubs/his reputation by saying "she could have fell and cracked her head open and then we're F****D". The way in which Neil was shouting at the pair of them was so vuglar that it caused one of the girls so much distress she began crying and immediately left the pub. It was at this point I no longer wished to stay at the venue and left, and I shall not be returning.

Very friendly...on our way to France & came across it looking for somewhere to have a drink. Nice barmaid .. loved the music! PS..i think I might have left my scarf on back of chair!!!

nice pub nice locals but that mood swing bipolar landlady and her obnoxious and agressive boyfriend nick need to go. horrible people who allow illegal activities to continuee in the pub. even got a video of the conversation in the toilet between nick the irishman (landlays boyfriend) and known criminals ive posted it in spotted portsmouth so everyone can see just how dodgy the managment is. I even had to walk out the pub throuh a cloud of cannabis being smoked in the garden which the irishman made no effort to solve. the landlady is like jekle and hyde.

shanky pub barman tells everyone hes the landlord when hes bent as a nine bob note. used to be my local but wont use it now till the management shows more respect. and stps baring all the genuine hard working people.

Everyone seems to be very old here. There are no young people at all. But this is the closest pub to the train station.

It's a good pub not what it used to be if in the area worth a visit and very good prices, tho even know a craft union house still have trouble and clientele that is somewhat undesirable at times

Great to revisit this newly reopened establishment. I drank here in the 80's. Friendly staff, a new clientele, and cheap prices - as a Guinness drinker, £3 a pint will bring me back time again. I wish the new management all success.

Super interesting pub. Drinks are very competitively priced. Bar staff are friendly and efficient. Clean and comfortable - A Sports Bar showing all the main events continuously.

Drinking hole for racists and football yobs. Clientele are what you see in the Jeremy Kyle show. Place is a dump and I believe has recently lost its license due to all the GBH and violence which occur on a regular basis.

I wanted to treat my wife to lunch so we popped in the painters arms only to be confronted by loud drunk locals using deeply inappropriate language. I was willing to still order our food but I was stopped by a scruffy dirty lady with dark hair who came in the pub on a push bike trying to sell me stolen bottles of spirits. I refused instantly but was shocked to see the barmaid from behind the bar buy all 3 bottles at a tenner a go. Outrageous. We didn't even stay for a drink we made a swift exit. Not the sort of place you want to take your family. Very very disappointed.

A friendly and welcoming pub at the top end of Commercial Rd in the city center in Portsmouth. Had a great Sunday afternoon here. DJ played a good mix of known songs and happily played requests. Beer was good.
