We stopped in for a drink over the weekend and were amazed to see homemade cakes back in the tea room. We havnt had cake here in so long. So it was a lovely treat to have a coffee and a fresh home made cake. We will be back for more.

I can’t say enough positive things about this little place. The menu was good, with a specials board and a fantastic range of cakes (with gluten free and vegan options). However, it was the lovely staff that make me want to return in the near future. They were clearly busy taking orders and prepping food, but made time to engage with every customer there. It was a far cry from a few years ago, when it felt like you were an inconvenience just being there. If you were also put off by this in the past, give it a second chance now.

The ploughman's lunch is an absolute winner, well appointed with crusty bread, cheeses, a perfectly boiled egg and a tangy pickle among the other elements that'll make your mouth water. The staff were friendly and attentive despite a busy Sunday crowd. On a sunny day a nice new outdoor seating area is available though I chose to eat inside on this occasion. Highly recommended if passing, or even a dedicated trip out.

I have always enjoyed supporting this local independent tearoom. However, following my recent experience, I'm afraid i won’t be returning. Both on arrival and during the meal, there was a sense that the staff would prefer we hadn't come due to the work it had created, everything seemed to be done begrudgingly and very loudly (including discussions around the state of what they were preparing). However, the real issue came with ne of the meals and its cost. I went for a salad at £8. In return i got two slices of meat, a small salad garnish (what looked like it was from bag of leaf salad) rather than a salad base, a very small serving of cheap plain crisps and a teaspoon of coleslaw. I couldn't quite fathom how they had justified £8 for this (especially as a lot of other items on the menu were much more effectively and fairly priced). On another day i would have commented on this and asked for something to be done, but the atmosphere from the staff on this particular day suggested any negative feedback wouldn't be taken very well so felt it easier to write it off and look elsewhere in the future. A real shame. Also, whilst we know so much of food is prepared from frozen across a range of eateries these days, it might be more strategic to move the chest freezer somewhere more discrete so customers don’t see what we are ordering being retrieved from the freezer in front of us.

I visited on a Sunday morning for breakfast with my local running club. We planned ahead and ordered our meals in advance before we set off on a 8km run that ended up in Alkborough at The Paddocks. I was in a party of about a dozen and we sat outside in a pleasant enough gravelled area adjacent to the tea room. The staff were very welcoming and the food was well prepared and delicious. Given the numbers involved some of the orders were a little complicated however staff dealt with it all in good humour. This is a lovely venue with warm and friendly staff, pleasant surroundings and a delicious variety of food. Alkborough is a lovely village too. Well worth a visit!

I am very fortunate to have this gem of a tearoom on our doorstep. I have reviewed The Paddocks previously but that was some time ago and we had an extremely pleasant visit yesterday with family who were visiting so I wanted to share my experience. The sun was shining so we were lucky enough to dine al fresco and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. We were a group of 12, adults, teenagers, young children, and our toddler. The Paddocks have a varied menu with fantastic daily specials and were able to accommodate everyone including a vegetarian and a coeliac.Sue was fantastic and managed to prepare our meals quickly. All the food was fresh and delicious as always with the ploughman's, scotch egg salad and the quiche specials a particular highlight. The homemade coleslaw is in the best I have ever tasted.A visit to the Paddocks has to end with one of Veryan's delicious cakes and scones, even a gluten free scone available for my sister in law. There is always a fantastic selection to choose from. The waitresses are always pleasant and accommodating. We have missed you girls. So lovely to see you all again.

Upon arrival, despite there being only two tables of guests, one of which had almost finished, we were not greeted or even acknowledged by any of the staff (there were approximately 5 staff members behind the counter). Due to the Covid restrictions, we did not know if we had to be assigned a table by the staff, as there was no signage or information on the process - only to sign in and use hand sanitiser. We had to ask the staff what the procedure was, after which we were given a table. Even when very busy, a simple "we will be with you soon" can offset any frustration and confusion. The table still had a scattering of crumbs left over from the last guests, though it wasn't dirty. We were not acknowledged by any of the staff for at least 10 to 15 minutes while we were sat at the table. One of the kitchen staff eventually told a waitress to come to our table, and we were supplied menus. We were correct in our assumption that the staff were to bring menus over and take our orders at the table due to Covid, however, as we were not acknowledged or welcomed in any way, we were left confused. The waitress who took our orders did her best and was friendly, but she was not very knowledgeable on the menu items (understandable for a large menu, but the menu is relatively average-sized), although she may have been new as she was quite young. We were also asked what we would like before we had time to properly review the menu. The lady who served us our food was friendly and warm, however our drinks were served after our food arrived, and our cutlery was given after our food was served. The food itself was good - the pate in particular was rich, flavoursome, and the portion sizes were generous, possibly the most generous serving of pate I have had at any establishment. The coleslaw was a particular highlight; it tasted home-made, and was rich and creamy (although I thought it could have done with something to offset the richness, some English mustard or black pepper, but this is a minor point). The hot chocolate I had was rich, sweet, and delicious - wholly recommend the cream and a flake as an addition, with a shot of vanilla. My friend's jacket potato was a good-sized portion, it was hot, and came with a generous helping of toppings. The café was accommodating here, as my friend requested just cheese and coleslaw (which was not on the menu), and they were willing to do this. We were informed soon after that this meal option already came with coleslaw, and were given the option of extra cheese or extra coleslaw. The jacket potato did come with crisps on the side, which was a little odd. The pricing of the food was well-balanced. The café gets a big plus from me for sourcing all their ingredients (where possible) from local farmers - always a good sign. When we went to pay for our food, we were not asked if we had enjoyed our food or our stay, we simply paid up and left. Overall, the food was good and was well-priced, however it was let down by erratic, disjointed, and distant impersonal service that did not make you feel particularly welcome. The service left us with a bad first impression and one that did not give us a feeling that we would have to return in the future (particularly as we had driven 20 minutes to the location based on recommendations).

We call here regularly for a 'coffee and cake' in the afternoon. The service is excellent; on the odd occasion we have called for lunch it is quick even when it is busy. They really are home made cakes and not smothered in too much butter cream as seems to be the policy these days; also there is always a choice of different cakes which don't seem to be available elsewhere. The breakfasts and lunches are all prepared to order and very appetizing. The staff are friendly and efficient in what is a very comfortable and pleasant establishment; what more could you ask for? It is well worth a visit.

. . . Así lo hicimos y no nos decepcionó.

We moved to the area about 3 years ago and have visited the paddocks on a very regular basis ever since. We usually visit for breakfast but have also occasionally had lunch. The service is always professional and friendly. The breakfast is fabulous value for money and the sausages are the best tasting I have ever had. Now and again the fried egg could be a bit softer for my liking but to be fair I have never told them that I like a softer yolk when ordering so more my bad than theirs. I love this place and look forward to my weekend treat. Highly recommended. Also to the people who say they have had problems with the owner I can honestly say that this has not been my experience.

We regularly visit the Paddocks , often during the very busy Sunday breakfast times and have always enjoyed our experience. The staff are always professional and courteous, and without a doubt , the Coconut and lime cake is the best I've ever had.

I love it here. Breakfast is just awesome always really well done, the staff are great!!Sunday wouldn't be Sunday now without Breakfast at The Paddocks. I have too say though they do a cracking bit of cake and i love the toasted sandwiches, so really I recommend it all. Very clean, indoor and outdoor seating available, dog friendly (outdoor cabin), parking.

I love it here. So do my kids. The staff are amazing really friendly and fuss over my precious babies. They always want scrambled eggs- my only criticism is when the owner offers a smaller portion for the kids she still charges full! The other staff are more understanding and really sweet. I often take my wonderful mum with me and we love our cappuccino and the warm scones with clothed cream are to die for! That you for making my Sunday strolls enjoyable!

Having been to this cafe on several occasions whilst walking/birdwatching in the area it is ideally placed for eating.I have no complaints with the food or most of the staff who work there, however my wife and I had walked several miles to reach Alkbrough for lunch. There is no where else to eat in the village. I had left my wallet in our car several miles away and explained this to the proprietor offering to return and pay if she was acceptable. Without offering any suggestions such as can you leave something as a guarantee she immediately declined without any apology or explanation. I note other customers who found her attitude rude and unhelpful. I advised her in the future my custom will be taken elsewhere. On previous visits I have found her surly and bossy, unlike the rest of her staff. I have helped numerous strangers out in the past when they have not had the funds readily available and found them extremely grateful for helping them out. I would have been very generous on my return to pay on that day but like other customers it would help her business if she could show a more charitable christian response. She has lost my business and that of my friends. I hope one day she is found in a similar position and she may learn the feeling of gratitude of being a good samaritan. After all we were not asking for more than £20 of credit for 2 hours. Is she really that desperate?

Have been multiple times since the new ownership, first time was terrible and I notified the owners as they were new at the time but didn’t leave a review. Been great since until today. Me and my partner (vegetarian) went we ordered soup & sandwich combo (Chicken/Bacon Mayo) and Brie & Cranberry Panini with Chips. Food comes and my sandwich was hot Bacon & Chicken with mayo, but was expecting a cold pre-mixed Chicken & Bacon mayo, but I can deal with that. My partner was about to bite his Panini and thought it didn’t look right so decided to open it and found that it was Bacon & Cranberry with no Brie. We took the plate to the young girl that served us and told them, they took the plate but didn’t get a single apology. And eventually got a replacement when I had nearly finished my food. My partner is vegetarian by choice for over 20 years, however some people are due to health reasons and could cause serious issues. I have been in contact with the owners to pre-warn them of the negative review I’ll be leaving and they have offered an apology and refund. I have declined the refund as we did eat the food eventually received correctly. They also lost out on us ordering desserts and more drinks due to what happened and went elsewhere on the way home. The owners have advised they will be speaking to staff and have made a change on the till to highlight it’s a vegetarian meal so hopefully won’t happen again, but the damage has already been done and will put us off visiting for quite sometime.

Our post-parkrun go-to place for an excellent veggie breakfast and relaxed atmosphere. The food is good, the staff are great and the coffee is strong!

Friendly staff, good service and plesant sourandings. We normally call in arond lunch time for a breckfast which is reasonable priced and very good. on a nice day you can sit outside by the pool / lake. I think there is a fishing shop and one can fish ? I think they also rent static homes ? you would have to inquire we only pop in for a meal.
