Visited there yesterday and ordered Sunday roast. Vegetables consisted of a spoonful of soggy cabbage and a few very thinly sliced carrots, roast potatoes were rather overdone, in fact burnt to put it mildly. The roast beef was stringy, but edible The staff were very friendly, so I'd definitely give them 5*.

Lovely family meal out. Priced reasonably, with a good selection of Vegetarian and Plant based options.

Most enjoyable lunch. Our friend was really profuse in her praise of the delightful ambience and food, which my wife and I also appreciated. We would recommend this hostelry and will return soon.

The pud looked nice but the food and drinks were too expensive for us.

Lovely Father’s Day meal, late in day and nice service by all.

Delicious fish and chips. Possibly the best chips I've had at a pub! Just the right amount of thick/thin and crunchy outer crust and fluffy inside. I suspect they might be twice/triple cooked. Nice thin batter and generous size of fish which flaked away beautifully. Would have again! Wine is also reasonably priced (sub £5 for a small glass).

Popped in by chance and WOW , I’m so impressed by the service as the young man behind the bar was welcoming and the waitress who took me to the conservatory with my fur baby Milo , the roast beef was cooked perfectly and the Yorkshire pudding was gorgeous , the potatoes were crispy and the vegetables were on point to the bite… gravy was just divine with it clearly being a reduction over some days 👍 I love gastro pubs and rarely do I give top marks as I run gastro pubs for a living but this was exceptional with the service and top notch gastro food … thank you team Pack Horse , I shall return … highly recommend indeed.

Lovely lunch. Hubby loved his risotto and my brother said it was the best pizza he had had in a while. Dog friendly dining space roo.

Went here for an evening and had a lovely meal and evening. They had a good choice of flavoured gins, my wife's choice, and a couple of nice beers. The wine was nice, too. We weren't rushed, with nice ambient surroundings, and helpful and attentive staff. Would definitely visit again if we are ever in the area.

It was the atmosphere that really made this place! Staff were helpful and barman made me a margarita even though it wasn’t on the cocktail menu - thank you! Food was nice but nothing super special.

The food was good, the beans could be served coocked not raw but the glasses....that was the greatest disappointment of everything.....they looked like they ware left outside in the rain to be washed....built up dirt and stains on a glass that you are supposed to put your moth on multiple times....i find it unacceptable... They made up with the girls that served, which were very pleasant communicative and smily alldoe they ware understaffed and clearly they ware overworked, they ware keeping their composure and made up for all the downs of the place! Thank you ladies!!!

Service and food were really good. I had the fish pie, piping hot 🥧 and chocolate cake 😋. We were 14 ladies and looked after quite well. The bathroom was very clean. Definitely coming back!

The staff at The Packhorse always fit me in, I like a small table to the side of their work station as I am usually eating alone. I enjoy a Sunday roast and when not meeting any of my family I like to treat myself occasionally. It is always delicious and I enjoy people watching as I have my meal. The staff are attentive not intrusive and it is always a pleasure to go there.

Never been before and went Xmas Eve for big family pre-christmas celebration. Great food, good service and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Our daughter, son-in-law and family often go for a meal and we will certainly be returning as well.

Brilliant Christmas dinner for a large family group. All food was delivered together and hot. Fussy children were all catered for in good humour. Wonderful time was had by all.

We had a large family Christmas lunch (11) and have no complaints. Easy location to get to with plenty of parking. Food was delicious. Catered for allergies. Everything was eaten by all and we had a good selection. Fair prices, pleasant staff who were very attentive. Definitely recommend.

We were there for a business dinner. It was a nice Xmas food, really good service and polite staff. It was a quiet atmosphere so we could talk and understand each other, rather than a noisy pub atmosphere. We all enjoyed it.

Good selection, very expensive for what it is and prices get an undisclosed auto 10% cover charge. Chicken burger I ate meat was dry and batter was very greasey.

Very busy, had a really nice pizza. Half the table made an error in ordering starter as delayed everyone's main. Some items pretty good value, probably comparable to other establishments for more expensive items.

Peppercorn sauce........just amazing. Kids welcome, great food and service. I'd be a regular if I lived nearer.

A couple weeks back we went for a Sunday lunch for my mothers birthday! There was 4 adults and 2 kids! Go to say my roast this time around was extremely disappointing! My Nan also said hers wasn’t up to previous standards and the meat was dry! Also my 3 roast potatoes were abit dead and my veg wasn’t even done! I basically ate raw carrots! Very disappointed, will have to now find a new place for a roast!

The Packhorse has very nice food, offers good value, good service and is a lovely dog friendly venue. There is a lovely fire in winter and a variety of outdoor seating options for the summer. This is a go to option in the area for my family. I expect we will be back many times over. Update: had a lovely brie and bacon baguette for lunch, very tasty.

Excellent Sunday lunch. We had our dog so great we could be accommodated but did mean we weren't seated in the best place - and we hadn't booked.

Had a lovely meal here last night with family the food was excellent and great service. The bonus was that we picked this place at random out of the phone because we were only visiting the area overnight and we'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good place to eat

Been here a number of times. This time was so disappointing Our bill for 2 adults was 75 pound so it wasn't cheap. We came at about 5.30pm amd they had no beef no pork belly so had roast chicken. The potatoes were so hard we couldn't even cut them. The carrots were raw and very little veg and lumpy gravy. Babies soup was ok. Her tart pudding was not edible as again was rock solid. Even got charged extra for the bread with the babies soup. Drinks took forever to arrive. The puddings were nice but felt as we ate late we got the leftovers. Not a great experience. A shame as local amd have spent a lot of money over the years.

The food was excellent and the staff were very efficient and friendly it was our 39th wedding anniversary and they even gave us some ice cream at the end decorated with "happy 39th wedding anniversary" what a lovely thought thanks to all the staff

Okay but sadly not great. Tired interior and in need of some TLC. Food was average and extremely overpriced. Staff were helpful,polite and friendly.

Really nice menu , good food served by great staff

Called on the off chance after a decidedly awful experience at the supposedly 3 star hotel just nearby. The Packhorse became our refuge for dinner in the evening for the rest of our stay. Well done! Thank you to all those responsible.

Eating here was a great experience. The waitresses were attentive and service was great. The food tasted really good and the pub was quite busy so great atmosphere, but not too loud. The pub was convenient to where we stayed. Would definitely recommend

Took my Dad here for an early Father's Day meal (on the Saturday). There was 4 of us & we were all impressed with the efficient & friendly service, beautiful food and reasonable pricing. The toilets are worth a mention as they were so lovely. Would definitely recommend this establishment 😊

Overall very nice food and lovely staff however there was a hair in the tomato pasta which was a bit off putting.

Food was good but service was poor . When we walked in was left just standing by bar person. Then waitress had to be reminded to bring some water another member of staff bought us some plates as we were sharing a platter . Waited ages for them to take our money then she short changed us by £9 had to tell her. Wouldn't recommend.

The food is absolutely gorgeous!! we were staying nearby and ate there gor both nights. We had the fish platter to say which was divine and the next day we had sea bass and hake both very tasty well presented dishes. Very nice efficient staff. Great place nicely decorated as well!!

Had very nice lunch with friends from work. No beer since school day but food good, better than most surrounding places. I had calves liver & mashed potatoes. As we in Scotland you could go further and do much worse.

Ate here twice on our recent stay near by, 1st visit was to celebrate my husband's 75th birthday, we really pushed out the boat starting with scallops of the day for the birthday boy, and an amazing crispy beef salad starter for me. Mains were venison for me absolutely out of this world and hubby had sea bass, really good. A dessert off of the specials board with happy birthday written in chocolate fir the birthday boy. 2nd visit I had the crispy beef stater followed by crispy duck salad hubby had hallumi chips followed by a pizza Lots of free parking We will be staying near by again next year and will be our go to resta

We visit this place every time we are at Harwell campus (several times per year) and I always liked it. The food is delicious, the place very cozy and the staff very friendly.

Booked a table to have a meeting of our project engineers to introduce three senior managers to the group. On the night we went mid week you could have walked in and got a table but I guess it has the potential for getting very busy. The car park is large as are the spaces with easy acces to the side of the pub. They have a large outdoor area that could be good in the summer. We all had a really good meal, quality quantity and presentation were really good. They had a good selection of drinks at the bar including some no alcoholic ones for us drivers. The staff were attentive without being in your face. If you want a good meal this is certainly a place to go. The place has a good decor but some low ceilings so be careful if you are tall.

Returned recently for evening meal with seven of us, whilst food was nice and service was prompt and attentive, the price of both meals and deserts has gone up significantly and for me didnt feel like great value for money, for example paying 7.95 for a modest sized desert is just too costly!

We were passing and popped in on the off chance they had a table, lucky enough room in the bar area but offered the same menu as restaurant which was a bonus. Lovely warm friendly welcome. Service was excellent throughout. Great selection on the menu. We went with the whitebait and mushroom and Brie tart for starters . Whitebait was lovely not your normal frozen ones, it said spicy but couldn’t taste any but still enjoyed, husband said the tart was lovely just a little cool. We both had the rolled stuffed shoulder of lamb roast and we weren’t disappointed, lovely portions not only looked good tasted it to. The red cabbage was amazing really tasty. Only thing I didn’t like was the Thyme on the roast potatoes and the salad with starters was rocket but that’s down to a taste thing with me. Over all 5 stars and will definitely return and recommend

Expensive. I had the burger at £15 and it was dwarfed by the standard sized bun. It used to be a good value-for-money restaurant, but not any more.

Mushroom and blue cheese fettuccine was delicious but the asparagus served in it was tough and inedible. The restaurant was very busy on a Monday evening and the atmosphere was good. Service was friendly but a little slow. I was more than halfway through my main course before I managed to catch someone’s eye to ask for a spoon to use with my pasta. Extensive menu with lots of GF and vegan choices. A little bit pricey considering the quality

Outstanding service from Emily and the rest of the team at the Packhorse. Food is always beautiful to look at aswell as really reasonably priced and delicious. Emily went above and beyond with decorating the glass room for my mums 60th today, I was incredibly touched and all the staff were so attentive to make sure everyone had everything they needed. Stunning selection of food and all of the party were super impressed with the quality and presentation. We noticed every detail of effort and it was so so sweet of you. A huge, huge thank you from all of us for making our afternoon SO special and stress free.
