The owl saved my birthday party from been cancelled after been let down at last minute by the original venue that I had booked for my birthday party. The owl staff was lovely, they let us take over the restaurant, conservatory and garden area for all my guests and DJ. The room hire was free of charge, our section was closed off from the public and there were plenty of staff working on the night. They usually do the catering for parties but because they helped me out 4 days before my party, they allowed me to do my own catering. They also said at the end of the night just to tidy up what we was taking home and they would sort out the rest of the cleaning. I really can't thank the owl inn enough.

Great pub: tasty drinks (including some local beers and a great selection of gins), great atmosphere and good food, and the staff was nice and lovely. On the Sunday they offered us some tasty free curry as well! They allow campervans to stay in their parking lot.

Live in the area and decided to go hear for food as realised it’s starting doing it again . I got lasagna and chips and for 12 pounds I thought the portions sizes were small . My friends got the ‘ famous Dawns pie ‘ which took ages to come and the gravy was very very salty . My friend got a steak sandwich and said it was tough to eat. Would we go there again probably not ….

We stopped here for lunch after walking along the canal. The food took a while to come, I ordered chicken and gammon pie, the pie itself was uncooked shortcrust pastry with a little filling. It was un edible. The staff were friendly but I would not recommend going for food.

Went for our choir Christmas party and was thoroughly disappointed. The meal was very poor quality, carb laden and even the chips were cold. The whole room was cold and only the bravest ventured out from beneath their coats. Cold dry pizza slices, heavy soggy pastry on the quiches, fillings on sandwiches were sparse and heavy on the bread. The only offering not containing pastry or bread were the cold chips. Even the cakes had a poor selection of supermarket basic ranges.

Myself and some friends decided to try the Sunday lunch at the owl instead of our normal venue. It's under new management and it really shows. The food exceeds expectations, the service is quick, friendly and professional. It's hard to achieve this balance, but the team here do it faultlessly. The owl has now become our "Sunday club " and more friends are joining us. Thank you.

Booked a family meal. Booked for 5.45pm. I ordered the Sunday dinner. When it came out, the veg looked dry, the gammon was small dried up pieces and the Yorkshire pudding burnt. The meal was part cold and part luke warm. I complained and they took it back to reheat it. It came back in the same state. Apparently the waitress told my daughter that as they stopped serving at 6pm, they had held back some of the Sunday lunch in case anyone wanted any. In other words it wasn't freshly cooked. I did get a refund and a free drink, and ended up eating some of my daughters leftover fish and chips . Would not recommend this pub for food and certainly won't be going back.

Called into The Owl for some lunch after a family walk down the canal and really enjoyed the food. Not the biggest menu but still plenty of options and all meals were a decent size and were really tasty whilst reasonably priced. The staff were really friendly and we didn’t have to wait long for drinks or food. Definitely an option for us next time we take a canal walk. Would recommend.

.....I do not! This is a dog friendly pub and it was really difficult to enjoy my drink whilst i had a dog under my table licking my legs. I am allergic to dogs and didn't appreciate the amount of drunk customers that let their dogs off their leads to roam around with no idea or concern re there whereabouts, this led to us leaving earlier than planned and would put me off returning.

Had a couple of meals here recently and can say the food is unrecognisable from previous incarnations... in a good way! If you had previously visited whilst under different owners I strongly recommend you try out the new fare. Firstly, remember to check out the specials board which lists some nice meals including a fish dish and a goat curry (really disappointed I missed this..!). We opted for the sirloin steak for around £13 ish off the standard menu. Fantastic value and well executed by the chef. Tasty skin on chips, onion rings, veggies, mushroom and a medium rare sirloin steak. All delicious! Take a look at the photo.. yum! All washed down with a pint of Abbeydale’s Moonshine Pale Ale, or three! Enjoy Dogs welcome in the bar area only, not the main restaurant section.

I've eaten Christmas dinner out for years and regardless of where it is or how great their carveries/usual meals are I've never had anything like dinner at home simply because of the amount of diners eating a five course meal. We ate at the Owl this Christmas and I have only one complaint, we should have been told the reason for our long wait between courses and we weren't untill just before we left. The chef was let down and had to prep, cook and serve for twice the amount he had prepared for, I can only imagine the panic he was in..but our food was very tasty, the sea bass cause was delicious as was the butternut squash soup. I had the traditional turkey which I couldn't fault with lots of veggies and roast parsnips, by the time the dessert came I was too full so apart from a spoonful of pavlova which was refreshing I had to stop eating .All in all we had a great family get together and knowing now how the chef was struggling I feel a bit guilty for the occasional moan.

We came to the Owl for Christmas Dinner. There were 10 adults and one 4 year old at our table. We sat down for 2pm. We expected to be there a few hours and we were. The food was fantastic, the waitresses were brilliant. The bar man was great at recommending gins and runs to try. Ok it did take a while between courses, but we did what normal people do and had conversations. We enjoyed it. Only negative would be is that there wasn’t much veg and it came out after most had finished their lunches. Didn’t ruin it for us.Who’s putting ketchup or mayo on a Christmas lunch? Well done to the chef who we heard was a bit stressed after being left on his own. Well done to the waiting staff too! Thoroughly deserved tips yesterday.

We got ice and it was changed with no bother. We sat down and chatted to a couple next to us. They had ordered chips with meal. They came after the meal. My wife specifically ordered the salad with a poached egg. Our meals arrived and there was no egg. We mentioned it and one was ordered but it had not come by the time we had eaten. The bar staff apologised and we got a refund. The pub had a craft fair on but there were not many diners. We have had much better here. Hope it was just a one off.

Popped into The Owl after a walk down the nearby canal for a quick drink in the beer garden. The Barperson was very polite, but the drinks of a Guinness, cider, fruit shoot and half a coke with 3 bags of crisps was very expensive even taking into account the inflated prices at most pubs. To top it all the 50p card charge fee (despite no obvious indication that such a charge was in place) took levels to nigh on extortionate.

We went to the Owl for a quiz team birthday ... hadn't used the Owl for years since the previous owners so didn't know what to expect. As soon as we'd seated ourselves we were asked if we'd like drinks, nice touch .. normally we'd have to get our own. We chose from the Early Bird Menu. Four out of five of us had starters - two had mac n cheese for a starter and two the garlic mushrooms. Unfortunately the first choice of tomato and basil soup had run out so carrot and coriander was offered but our diners didn't like that so had garlic mushrooms. Mac and cheese was delicious! Would also make a lovely main course with salad or chips ... food was piping hot too. Our mains were varied ... two of us had chicken fajitas (I had hand cut chips with mine at extra cost) and one had vegetarian fish and chips, one ordinary fish and chips and one the beef and ale pie. All meals were hot on arrival, plentiful and filling. The chips particularly were lovely - fat and crispy and delicious. The fajita filling (chicken, onions, peppers) were nicely spiced and served with guacamole, sour cream, salsa and cheese with tortilla wraps ... very nice but outfaced us. Pie and chips was lovely with extra gravy, vegetarian fish and chips were plentiful (battered halloumi) and the person who had this liked it very much. Also the fish, chips and mushies were good too. Service was excellent. The only blip we had was one of our party ordered a dessert which was fudge cake and custard ... at the last moment she was told they had run out, but no alternative was offered for this. She had wanted the cheese cake originally but that had run out too. So not much choice for dessert and she decided not to bother. However, meal was filling, hot and plentiful and although none of our party wanted burgers or pizza there was enough choices. All in all it was a very pleasant experience eating out at The Owl and would consider returning. Left a tip for the Staff as they were helpful and friendly. Thank you .... enjoyable experience!

As others have mentioned The Owl has recently changed ownership and is now run by the people from The New Inn at Calverley, where we have also eaten frequently. We didn’t realise until arrival but as it was a Mother’s Day a special two or three course menu, so the famous pies that certain members of our party were looking forward to were not an option unfortunately. Anyway, party of six including two mothers were greeted immediately upon arrival and seated, supplied with menus and drinks orders taken. Choice was limited with soup, pate, prawn cocktail and vegetarian option available for starters. Sunday roast, chicken, salmon and vegetarian option for mains. We opted for the soup, prawn cocktail and then chicken wrapped in bacon with creamy sauce. My tomato soup was delivered hot to the table which was good, nice, tasty and thick, clearly homemade it was also supplied with a rather chewy half a baguette. The prawn cocktail was a good sized portion served with the other half of the chewy baguette (some butter would have been good) and with a small amount of salad. Both dishes were enjoyable and plates were returned to the kitchen gleaming. The mains of chicken were also well presented although more sauce and some potatoes would have been nice. Side dish of vegetables included carrots, broccoli and red cabbage. Chicken was nice and moist. We both enjoyed it very much. Others in our party enjoyed the Sunday roast although the beef was apparently a little on the dry side and the inclusion of Black Pudding Mashed Potatoes was we all agreed a little odd. Black Pudding is an acquired taste I our view and we feel chef was trying to be a bit too clever here and it didn’t work out. A request for mashed potatoes without its inclusion was declined although roast potatoes were also included (which I would have liked on my chicken !) Desserts of sponge and custard, ice-cream and chocolate fudge cake finished off the meal well for those that had not enjoyed a starter. Complimentary glass of wine was also available for the mums in our party, will they do a similar offer for Father’s Day and a supply a free pint I wonder ? Overall then the quality of fayre was quite good and we were only disappointed with the set menus on offer and lack of choice on this occasion. We will visit again, possibly through the week to take advantage of the early bird offer on orders placed before 7pm and will then be in a better position to compare The Owl in its current incarnation to that as we enjoyed many times when Nick and his team were in charge. Great lunch time fish & chips, we visited here on Saturday on our way home, I’d had food here many years ago, but the management had just changed so we thought we’d have a go. How glad we did.We entered and the place had just by the looks been decorated, the dining room had a family group and what looked to be a group of mums and their children, we ordered two for a tenner, it arrived promptly and wow it was good, real chunky chips and real mushy peas and the fish was light and tasty. For a quick lunch stop I really enjoyed it. Will be going again, to try more on the two for a tenner!

Like many I was concerned when the Owl closed recently. So it was with trepidation that we attended for the first Sunday lunch prepared after reopening and served by new faces as they had a class act to follow. I needn't have worried. The reason for this is the same people who run Calverley's New Inn have now branched out and are running The Owl too. This is interesting as the previous occupants also ran the New Inn before moving to The Owl. You couldn't make it up. My roast dinner was excellent. A slice of beef, ham and pork in a rich brown gravy with mash and really good roast potatoes accompanied by vegetables cooked the way my partner asked (not al dente) and a proper Yorkshire pudding. £8.95. Although they didn't have ginger sponge and custard, our comment about this was noted. The alternative chosen of vanilla and chocolate cheesecake with cream for my guest was sinful - but fabulous. Two courses are £11.95. Half a Timmy Taylors Boltmaker (CAMRA's Champion Beer 2016) was £1.70 which I thought rather steep, but it was well kept. I noted they had Black Sheep and Leeds Pale along with a guest ale. This bodes well. Their front of house staff are to be commended for their friendly and can-do approach, despite some struggling with the electronic till when it came to settling the bill. This required three of them to sort - but teething problems are to be expected when you're in a new universe. We were impressed with their welcome, the speedy, friendly, attentive service and most importantly the food. I do hope they can hang on to their chef. He'll be the key to their success here. It was quiet for a Sunday, but it's early days for a new team and I hope the obvious effort and expense they are going to pays off. We will be back soon to see if ginger sponge and custard is on the menu!

The Owl is back... We went today and the furniture was comfortable, the food delicious and the service first rate. On arrival the various menus were clearly explained, the order taken in good time and the food arrived freshly cooked and really tasty. I had hunters chicken with the best sweet potato fries I've ever had., my hubby had sausage and mash land the sausages were really meaty and tasty. A gorgeous pearl and apple crumble topped it all off. Service was great right down to grabbing something to go for my son that isn't even on the menu! We'll be back v soon.

This is a very good little pub. Located just across the road from The Rodley Barge, with whom they hold a beer festival every August! As with all the local pubs, they offer a good selection of real ales and also serve some very good food! We have eaten here a few times and have never been disappointed!

Daughter and I went for our dinner here on Boxing Day 2016. We'd booked for 2pm but were unable to get back for that time so they kindly pushed our booking back to 330pm. The food was gorgeous - I had Salmon and my daughter had the glazed ham. All food cooked to perfection. Thank you very much! Colette

My Mum is the best cook in the world ever. Take my word for it. She knows where to buy it, how to cook it, present it - and will not invite you back if you put your elbows on the table. In essence she is proper old school, seriously knows her stuff and if a place gets her vote - then you should listen. So if I tell you The Owl in Rodley is her go to for Sunday lunch, then that's about the best compliment for any eatery I could give. She has praised their beef, vegetables and even their Yorkshire Puddings of which she is MOST critical. Having said that Mum and I visited earlier this year midweek, just wanted fish and chips and were kept waiting over an hour before eventually ordering something else, so they are not always great. But their weekend roast dinners are excellent. My ex wife has been the Top Dog at several quality establishments and through her I came to understand keeping hold of The Chef and the Maitre D' is key to success. Lose either and the business can nose-dive. So I hope the team here stay together with their friendly and hard working ethos which makes the the whole experience a joy. My Mum is on a crutch and struggles with steps. When the man in charge takes time out to give her his arm, he gets my vote - and I can't say that about many places.

We thought we would have lunch out and try tho Owl at Rowley as it wasn't too far and we hadn't been for years. The dining area was empty apart from another couple and the first thing I saw were pre printed menus on the tables offering 2 for £10 which said to me plastic food, as I call it. We were recommended the steak pie which the landlord assured us was homemade . We didn't have to wait long but when it came on a nice oblong plate we got, a square of steak pie wich was OK but far too much gravy salt ,heated up mashed potato and some overcooked peas that had turned almost white. This was not 2. For £10 but £10 each. I do not want fancy or a la carte just a meal as good as ,at least,as I can cook myself. Where were the vegetables i e, carrots, cauliflower ,broccoli not just a few overcooked peas. I am sorry we have had far better pub lunches and would not return.

After driving past the The Owl Inn on many occasions I decided to book a table for Sunday lunch.Table booked for 12:00 we arrived slight early to find one of the owners (Nick) outside. Friendly hello, how are you? Not knowing the layout of the pub Nick showed us to our table. Asked if we would like a drink, we said yes and he brought the order to our table. Nick explained the Sunday roast was beef, chicken or even a home made steak and ale pie. The pie was available if a Yorkshire pudding if you wanted one. If we couldn't decide if to have beef or chicken we could have both. We both had beef and chicken. We had a short wait until our lunch was served on a modern plate, crisp white. Beef, chicken, mash potato, roast potato and a huge home made Yorkshire pudding, complete with gravy. A dish of vegetables too, carrots, peas, swede, cabbage, and extra jug of gravy. Our table was checked to make sure everything was satisfactory. Everything was we couldn't fault the meal at all. The vegetables weren't over cooked, no soggy veg, the chicken actually tasted of chicken nothing bland about this chicken and the beef just fell apart, lovely and tender. We both cleared our plates, I one for leaving food but not today. Was far too good to leave. Our plates were cleared and we decided to have a sweet even though we had no room. A choice of six sweets, my partner had syrup sponge pudding with custard and I had the chocolate pudding with custard. We ate the lot after they had cooled down, loads of custard. My partner even commented on how much I ate today. We have tried a number of pubs for Sunday lunch and have been disappointed in the service and the food. But not today we enjoyed our reasonably priced Sunday lunch, sweets and drinks. We have also said we will return one evening during the week. I would like to thank Nick and staff for making us welcome. We found everyone who dealt with us pleasant and attentive, and nothing was too much trouble. Our visit lasted for about 90 minutes as we were going somewhere else afterwards. The pub had a steady stream of drinkers and others ordering food.

Warm welcoming hosts and very efficient service from all concerned.Just one suggestion as mentioned on the way out, could we please have stuffing supplied with the Turkey Roast Dinner then it really would be even better!!Visited with family, 2nd October 2016

Also called in for a mid week meal which again was top quality. Thank you to hosts Nick and Steve for making our visits enjoyable. Booking is advisable for Sunday lunch.

I called in for a drink on a Saturday evening and the lounge room was nearly empty of customers. The first thing that I noticed was a nasty smell of grease or cooking smell that was not very pleasant. The man serving behind the bar could have been a bit more polite and friendly.I only stayed for one drink and then moved on elsewhere.I do not think I will bother to call here again.

Went in for Sunday lunch, table for was very quickly found, menus offered by friendly waitress, food was lovely, Yorkshires especially and served to us very quickly , my only comment would be not to have gravy poured over my food, you get a gravy jug anyway, just personal choice. When I go again I will ask for no gravy on my meal and am sure that won't be a problem. A nice leisurely lunch, no rushing and fantastic friendly staff

Visited the Owl yesterday for lunch with family. The new menu started yesterday and each one of us enjoyed what we had. As always highly recommend the steak and ale pie, the meat is so tender and grandson loved the new Mega Burger. The Surf and Turf went down easily as well. The desserts were lovely and can recommend the cookies cheesecake. The ambiance is lovely, the staff are so helpful and to top it all, everywhere is really clean It doesn't smell like a pub!

I have passed here thousands of times and with 2 kids and a dog stopped off for some food and drink for the first time.Very friendly welcome.Cask ales were well kept and the landlord was very enthusiastic about the rotation of his beers. I understand that a new management team are in place so they are doing a very good job.Food okay (we only had standard fare fish and chips) but the kids enjoyed them.Decent beer garden to the rear with plenty to keep kids entertained.Highly recommended.

We called here for a drink only, mid week and were looking at the menu etc for another time. The pub was quiet but it was mid-week. The barstaff immediately advised that we needed to be out by 9.50 at the latest (after we had purchased our bottle of wine) as she had a bus to catch! Eventually we were asked to leave and if we hadn't finished our wine, did we want it back in the bottle to take with us? We took our drinks to the outside seating area to finish whilst the doors were closed and bolted! Not a particularly warm welcome and we certainly will not be ordering food any time soon

I go out all the time and never have any issues but in truly traumatised attended this venue venue as was a assaulted by the bouncer, punched in the face for no reason without aggression whatsoever, I honestly didn’t even think things like this could even happen. If your a guy and don’t want be be assaulted by some random bouncer for talking to a girl he’s never going to he the chance to chat to please don’t go to this dodgy venue. What a joke.
