The Otter in North West Leicestershire

Love this place. Really great service and food was delicious. I think the prices are a bit on the high side for what it is. However, we had a voucher for a discount so it was more reasonable. The only negative is that they include a service charge, which they do not tell you upon presenting the bill. I don't personally like that, but once you know, you can remove it if desired and pay separately.

Lovely atmosphere nice cosy fire on a cold day, gorgeous views. The service was excellent and our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and dietary requirements, which was very reassuring. We had Sunday lunch which was absolutely yummy. The parking is a bit tight in this car park but perfectly manageable.

Warm and friendly pub restaurant with open fires, with great view overlooking the river. Good range of tasty food. Enjoyed the smoked haddock fish cakes with tarragon sauce. Excellent service.

Lovely pub. I had the classic burger and Rachel had the lamb skewer with slaw and chips. They were both nice and enjoyable, although not that exciting. Very few people in when we went but lacked atmosphere and would have been nicer with the fire on. Staff were lovely enough though.

Food is always amazing here, and even better its doggy friendly. We can't wait for valentines!

Service was really slow. Coffee had oil or greese floating on top. The plates, cups and dishes where either chipped or had a cracked. I wanted the lamb sold out then the steak also sold out. Felt really bad as my wife booked it for my birthday. Massive let down.

Fabulous service always friendly staff, the menu choices are great and delicious. We had a relaxing dinner for two by the roaring fire and enjoyed a fabulous dessert with the 50% offer on main dishes. Appreciated the staff going the extra effort to ensure warmth and comfort on what was a very chilly (-5c) evening!

First visit since its refurbishment, still cosy but much brighter. Nice real ale, food very good, staff very pleasant, efficient and attentive. Highly recommend.

Food ok but I think it is a bit pricey for a pub.

Lovely place. Starters were great. Main meal was terrible. As it was my daughters 21st it was very disappointing I wouldn’t recommend any food 3rd and last visit. Will not use again

Fantastic! Bailed us out for Christmas meal of 8 people following our booking elsewhere ringing us up an hour before cancelling great service, meal, cannot fault and genuinely just faultless thank you!!!

We came to the otter today to enjoy a bite of lunch after looking at their menu online, however the menu we were greeted with was a festive menu which was not stated on their website. As it’s New Year’s Eve we understood the change of menu and was pleased with that fact that the ordinary menu was available for three different mains. We opted for a classical fish & chips, I’m not massively keen on mushy peas so asked for beans as an alternative. We were told there was no beans available, which was understandable as it does state the fish and chips comes with mushy peas. Again this was fine, fine until the table behind ordered the exact same meal but beans was available to them, turns out a few other tables had beans available to them too. Understandably we were not pleased with this service as it appears we were the only ones unavailable to the alternative after specifically asking for beans. As a meal for two priced at £40 we expected better, fish was okay and chips were minimal. Service felt very rushed and not very helpful, considering the pub was rather empty.

We have not been to the Otter in years as we didn't like it when it changed hands. It was a dark and dingy pub but also the food had gone downhill. However, our experience on 27/12/23 was very pleasant. The pub is lighter and fresh. We were welcomed warmly by the manager and the staff were super friendly towards us and our baby girl. Loved the fire. Food was delicious. Was nice to see the staff knew their other customers by name. Really lovely experience. We will definitely be visiting again.

I went a few days before Christmas for dinner and the menu was brilliant! Large range of options and some with offers. Staff were friendly and proactive, when they saw the glasses getting empty, they came and asked if we wanted a top up. The only criticism I can think of is that our starters weren't hot, but warm instead,which meant that after a few minutes some parts got cold.

The food excellent. Although busy the serving staff were friendly and efficient. Lovely atmosphere and decor.

As the Rose and Crown was fully booked we decided to go to the Otter as it's one of their sister pubs. We booked online and selected the normal menu when asked and not the festive menu. When we arrived we were told they are only serving the festive menu which caused us problems as our daughter is fussy with food and the festive menu didn't really have much she liked ( the normal menu does tho, hence why we selected it when booking). The service here is not good. It wasn't really busy in there at all. We were sat at our table and told that it's table service and someone would be with us to get a drinks order soon (why the woman who seated us didn't take the order god only knows!). Having waited around 10 - 15 mins I went to the bar and ordered my own drinks, only for the barman to sat he would bring them over, and after seeing our tray of drinks sat on the bar for quite a while I had to get someone's attention to tell them our drinks are on the bar and can we have them. So after about 20 min we have only just got our drinks and still haven't ordered yet. We finally ordered and the food came out quite quick which is not something I'm fond of, always makes you think it's just been sat there waiting for you. The food wasn't anything special, dry meat, over priced sides. Just a bog standard cheap Sunday dinner with a higher price tag. Had to send the pork belly back as it was literally a square block of fat. Why does nobody check what is being put on people plates? Back to the service again. Once we had got someone's attention to have the fat brick replaced with some meat we finished our meal and was left sat around with plates in front us and when they were finally taken away I asked for the bill and the card machine as by now I was annoyed with constantly wanting for someone to serve us. What turned up?? Yep just the bill no card machine. Had to wait even longer to pay.

booked a table for 3 for boxing day online , on arrival we noticed it was only half full which i thought unusual for boxing day , however it was noticable there were only 2 floor staff and 1 supervisor and 1 bar tender , so as it panned out it was good that it was underbooked. I chose the onion and goats cheese tart only to be told there is no goats cheese sa i agreed to have the alternative cheese , on arrival the tart had obviously been nuked to one inch of its life and the crispy puff pastry tart was like a soggy volcano. I mentioned this to our waitress who appoligised , as we were being taken out for lunch i didnt pursue it further. duck for main course was ok but a tiny portion . to end i chose the cheese board like ive never seen before as it was a pile of mixed diced cheeses on the plate with a bunch of grapes and a rock hard piece of butter. having dined at the otter prior to this i can only assume the chef was off and due to the long wait between courses and the 2nd rate presantation . At the end when asked if we enjoyed our meal we then explained the above and the supervisor deducted £10 from the bill and finally we had to ask for the deposit paid in advance to be taken off the bill. On a footnote i would like my review to help and not be a moan, and your response should be taken seriously .

We went for Christmas. Everything was very well organised and the food was lovely. The staff were very friendly and there was a really good atmosphere.

We came for Christmas dinner and to be honest we could not fault it the service the food and drinks and the atmosphere was spot on nice and chilled 👌 so top marks to all the team 😀 will definitely be returning.

Website has xmas and normal menu showing. On xmas eve only xmas menu available. Only fish available for veggies. No child menu. I had supposedly salad but contained a few lettuce leaves and 2 bits of onion. Very disappointed.

We came in early afternoon, we saw tables available, atmosphere seemed relaxed yet we were told to wait before we could be seated which was not a problem. We’re waited for a few minutes before the waiter approached us asking if we had booked online. We hadn’t booked so she told us they were too busy and that we would have to leave. We had drove up from Liverpool to buy a new car and wanted some food before our long journey home but unfortunately we had to make the drive back home on empty stomachs. They could’ve but chose not to accommodate and this really impacted our day. Shame as it looked like a lovely pub to eat at.

Food quality good but not exceptional. Ordered soup of the day as described by the waitress (spicy carrot) but was served up an alternative (potato and leek) which I would not have ordered had I known, but too late to change. Good atmosphere and location. Lovely waitresses, pleasant staff

I booked a table on Thursday the 7th of December 17:45. The car park was easy to navigate and nice spaces. Car park was well lit. I walked into a bright and warm welcoming building. I noticed that everything was clean and polished. I was greeted by a friendly and engaging staff member who confirmed my order and showed me to the table. The restaurant area looked very nice and cosy. My seat was in a lovely part of the pub. Commenced to order drinks and food. Drinks were served cold and tasted amazing. Food was then served and both meals that were ordered tasted absolutely delicious. Even offered the Bloody Mary tomato sauce as an alternative to the tomato sauce that had ran out. It tasted great. Ordered dessert. The honey pot was so delicious. Enjoyed every crumb. The lady who took the orders and payment was very friendly and polite. Excellent experience and have already recommended to my colleagues and friends family to visit here. Thank you.

Lovely staff, nice atmosphere but food now 'to a price' worst brussels I've ever had, rest of main was just so-so.

Chips and the fish is frozen and the price is 16£ .simply not worth it. desert is blend. For their price should be fresh food not frozen.

Over half an hour before we were able to place our order then to find out some of what we had ordered wasn’t available. Only one waitress on even though the place was packed. She was doing her best and didn’t stand still for a second but far too many tables for one person. The waitress came to us 10 mins after we’d ordered and said some of what we’d ordered wasn’t available so we ordered a starter as a main. Starter arrived on its own so we told the manager (who had bought the starter out) that it should have come as a main. She apologised and said we could either choose a drink each or a pudding on the house due to the wait and mix up. When the food finally arrived it was lovely. We also enjoyed a mini pudding and drink. Bill arrived and unfortunately the unavailable food was still on the bill as were the puddings so the poor waitress had to then sort this out too. Obviously very under staffed but considering this we still really enjoyed our visit and the food was good. Excellent service from the waitress. She definitely needs a payrise and a day off bless her!!!

Very difficult to park but lovely atmosphere when we walked in and attentive waitress service. However it got very cold and we ended up wearing our coats during our coffees as the staff weren't allowed to put new logs on the fire. The meal was very average and very expensive for what it was. Very disappointing.

Squeezed us in last minute for a roast when it was very busy. The roast was amazing- and a huge portion! Desert even better and the wait staff were very friendly.

Fabulous pub to spend time & enjoy great food, lovely environment & service & food we’re equal to it, highly recommend, never been & left feeling disappointed ☺️

Loved it. Great staff, ambience, food and drink. The fact Puff Daddy used to frequent this establishment when he was touring the UK back in the 90s makes it extra special. Can't wait to go back thanks (possibly haunted)

A top stop between Loughborough and Nottingham. I decided to take the A roads rather than the motorway. I felt peckish, so I turned in to The Otter on a whim. The food is extremely good and well priced. Be sure to try the pie! Fluffy clouds of seed-seasoned pastry, even the carrots were sweet and soft. Beats the pants off the last few places I have been

Surprised, I haven't been in for a while, it has been refurbed, limited menu, but food was lovely! Plenty of parking to the front & also a good place to go for a drink.

Lovely pub, great food. Not bad GF options shame there isn't seperate fryers for the gluten free options that are stated on the allergen guide. But overall enjoyed our meal and dessert.

Food and service was spectacular. My only minor thing, which had nothing to do with the food or service, was lack of spaces in the car park. But overall, a brilliant restaurant

Out of 4 guests, everyone thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Just one minor detail for me, would have preferred my beetroot tortilla to have been warm. Great service too.

The decor is lovely, relaxing colours, comfortable, good quality. Staff were fantastic, efficient and very friendly. It was quite expensive but good for a special occasion. Food quality good so it was value for money.

Lovely pub and atmosphere. Just but not too full. Food was faultless. Lots of nice flavour and cooked well. Timings were spot on and our waitress Cat was attentive and offered recommendations which were perfect. Couldn’t fault the place.

The burger was burnt and luke warm. The bun was burnt. The fries were burnt and luke warm. The choice of dishes was limited and were over priced.

Top class visit to The Otter. Server Mel was absolutely fantastic and recommended some really nice dishes. The pork belly was cooked to perfection, brilliant dish that could not be faulted. I’d have it daily if I could. Coupled with the spot on Mac & cheese side. Management (Ian) was extremely friendly and welcoming and got us seated immediately upon arrival. Top bloke who made the experience second to none. Mel’s knowledge of the menu and ability to present the menu, specials etc was fantastic. She is a credit to the business. This stood the restaurant out from that of any other I have visited. It made it feel like a fine dining experience. Staff were excellent. Taking all into account, this was an excellent meal out and I’ll be returning as soon as I possibly can. Thanks again Otter team! Jake

The service was great, the staff were efficient, friendly and helpful. The food was all really good and we all had clean plates. The restaurant itself was comfortable and pleasant and we enjoyed the views (despite the rain). I would highly recommend The Otter.

My colleague and I have been to this pub all week for dinner, whilst away at work. Staff are very friendly and provide a fantastic service. Food is to a high standard and good beers on tap. Highly recommended! 5*

Have visited this restaurant multiple times over the past year and it never fails to disappoint. Always something new to try each visit as well due to an extensive menu!

Service excellent, food very good, also due to traffic we were 45 minutes late but this was not a problem to the staff.

We've come by car and boat at different times, really easy to get to by boat but their Moorings area leaves alot to be desired if your using SUPS, kayaks or row boats as they are very high up. They are also a bit dangerous and deteriorating quite a bit and when I stepped on a wooden board it completely moved out of place and another bit was already broken. A bit of a shame as it's a beautiful and easy run from zouch on light water craft or bigger boats. We've been with friends recently and both of our groups were a bit shocked out how expensive it was for a round of drinks with a couple packets of crisps. Definitely a good £5 more expensive for the same thing else where ( think the crisps are on the expensive end). When we've been to have a meal The food has been nice and we do like the atmosphere. The inside is lovely and has nice decorations and ambiance. Down below on the outside over looking the water has alot of potential because of its view and where its situated but again, leaves a bit to be desired and feels like it's part of a different restaurant that is less well kept and a bit forgotten about with cob webs around the tables and chairs and quite dusty, it always has big clunky chairs at the end near the moorings that are badly presented and tend to block the walk way passage unfortunately. These judgments aren't off one visit but approximately 4.

It was our first time visiting today, the decor was stunning however we were so disappointed in the food. My starter was sent back due to it being cold, it was so bland but we hoped the mains would impress. They didn’t, we ordered the chicken and the chicken was cold, tough, so bland and tasteless. After hearing so many good things unfortunately our visit didn’t impress. The customer service was great however when paying those prices we would have expected better. 😔

Excellent selection of dishes on menu. Lovely location and ambience. Delicious food and excellent service from our waitress Sally. We only stumbled upon this pub looking for a place to eat which was close to the motorway but I'm so glad we found it! We will make it a regular stop in future.

This restaurant is so expensive!!! £21.50 for a main course and £7.50 for a starter! There are lots of excellent restaurants who offer a 2 or 3 course roast for mush less. I really think vintage inns are punching about their weight charging these prices. The staff were great but it’s not a great customer experience when you have faced with a mortgage payment at the end of the meal. The food is ok, but is supplied by bake brothers so pre cooked, and that’s why it stings charging premium prices. This pub is more expensive than the coopers arms who do a fantastic fresh carvery. Shame….. nice pub let down by over charging customers to pay for the refurbishment.

Sunday lunch looked good but the potatoes where almost inedible as they were hard as bullets. Almost as if they had been recooked from a previous serving. The parsnips were also underdone. Staff nice, they moved us to a better table when we politely requested.

We had a fantastic meal at the Otter last night. The food was delicious, even the apple sorbet with pork, which I wasn't too sure about. The waitress was very friendly and went out of her way to help with parking as the car park is quite small.

I visited The Otter on a Sunday and my experience was good. I enjoyed the overall ambience and atmosphere and service was quick (despite it being busy and full). Although slightly higher priced than some places, this was worth it and the meals we had were done perfectly. Our group agreed that it couldn't of been better and we really enjoyed it. Thanks, team!

Not the cheapest food but was very nice and good sized portion. Was sat outside by the canal which was pleasant, ordered via the app and the service was fast and polite. Had a great time, thanks.

Everything was immaculately presented, everyone was friendly. The food was delicious and well presented. Everyone was helpful and checked back with us that we were happy.

A beautiful setting, my wife and I visited for lunch and had a good experience overall, the service was very good, friendly and prompt, the starters were excellent and the main courses were fine but my wifes Sunday dinner veg were a bit overcooked, we would have said something but were running short of time, so probably the Otter would have corrected this. However a good experience overall. It has to be said that the rear of the otter has a great view, unfortunately it was raining when we went but it looks like a fantastic place to sit outside with drinks and/or food.

What a gem of a place. We're not local and called in during a long journey home. Firstly, it's beautifully decorated and staff were very welcoming. It's not tge cheapest but you get what you pay for and the food was delicious and plentiful. Our server was Melanie. She was extremely helpful and polite.

Went to the Otter on Sunday afternoon. Had a really warm welcome from all staff. There was a new staff member who we hadn't seen before, seemed to be management who went above and beyond to make our visit enjoyable. We will be visiting again very soon due to the fantastic hospitality!
