The Osmotherley Fish & Chip Shop in Hambleton

After being in the business for 20 years these are the best fish n chips we've had in a while, brilliant owners good luck to you both, we will definitely be back Clive n Sue

Bloody lovely - nothing more needs to be said really. Cooked to order so expect to wait for 10 minutes or so but so worth it, you can always sit and have a drink in the pub while you wait. Got 1 haddock and 1 cod - both were delicious. We turned up a couple of hours early as we hadn't realised the opening time had changed but it was worth the wait

We placed a large order (10 of us). Popped in, placed the order, had a drink next door whilst we waited for everything to be cooked. The staff were lovely. They had everything labelled up for us. A few of the group opted for the large cod and haddock and they were huge! All really tasty. The curry sauce was really good and the mushy peas actually tasted of peas rather than being watery! We found the pricing was on point for what we ordered.

I’ve been meaning to stop here for a good while now & so glad I did today. Sausage & chips with a scoop of scraps cooked in beef dripping with a carton of curry. Absolutely fantastic! The sausage wasn’t your usual cheap chippy type, it tasted superb and is clearly locally sourced from a butcher. The curry was also delicious and not the usual lumpy chip shop type either. It’s an absolute yes from me. Fish & chips next time. 👍

Quite possibly the best fish and chips on the coast to coast. If I'm ever in the area I'll definitely be making a b-line back here

I stayed at cote gyll camp site and went walking . Went for fish -patty and chips they were georgeous . I have had the same at trenchers and the magpie Whitby North Yorkshire in the past and osmotherley fish & chip ship taste far better . . Run by a lovely couple . I will be returning soon .

We have fish and chips from here once a week,fish and chips are always amazing, the battered onion rings are awesome. Cosidering that these guys have only been doing this a short time as new chippy owners they need congratulating on a job very well done.

Tell them how you want your fish and chips cooked and they deliver ever time, I like my batter and chips crunchy 👌 the onion rings are also worth a try 👌 Don’t believe all these negative reviews! Good things come to those who wait! I always prefer to order a fish freshly fried rather than take one which has already been cooked and kept in the warming compartment - consequently becoming overcooked for my taste. No such worries at Osmotherley Fish and Chip Shop! Everything is freshly cooked to order and my Good Friday fish today was delicious! No hardship to have a pint at The Golden Lion opposite while you wait either! The owners are friendly and accommodating and, having spent a few days in Whitby recently, are delivering a product easily on par with the offerings of esteemed establishments in that town. Looking forward to the next visit to Osmotherley already!

We both agreed that these are probably the best fish and chips we've had in many years, so hot that we both scorched our mouths :o £21 for haddock and chips, a portion of mushy peas, a can of drink, two sachets of tartar sauce. Perfectly cooked chips, crispy and dark, and the fish and batter were quite wonderful, nothing greasy at all, cooked in beef dripping, ever so tasty! We will be back :)

According to my other half the Best Fish and Chips he has ever had and that says a lot. Portion sizes were massive and the chips fried in beef dripping were delicious 😋 We will be back again and again.

This used to be a lovely chippy, but we were completely underwhelmed with the new owners. Service was slow, the chips were dry and greasy, the fish was over cooked, and the kids meals were overpriced at £5 for just a few chips and nuggets, and a really cheap drink. So disappointing! We couldn’t even eat the chips and batter 😳 The photo shows a complete kids meal!

Some of the best fish and chips I’ve had for ages. The batter melted in my mouth, excellent! We enjoyed this feast up in the local moors overlooking the beautiful scenery.

Good but not as good as a nearby competitor. North Yorkshire Yoga does way better fish, I can attest for this myself as I have been there many times.

On a visit from Ireland and popped in for some fish and chips. Due to dietary requirements I can't have gluten so the lady was able to make me fish without batter, the food was delicious and I would definitely recommend this place. Chips were cooked lovely my husband really enjoyed them... 1st class

Knowing I would be traveling to Osmotherley I as always took time to check out the reviews of local take always / cafes / restaurants & was very impressed with the reviews of the local fish & chip shop. I am & always have been a lover of good old fashioned, straight forward fish & chips but am finding it increasingly difficult with each passing year to find chip shops that still satisfy like the Friday night teas of my childhood. Tonight was the exception, amazing fresh cod encased in the lightest batter accompanied by piping hot chips fried in beef dripping… OMG I am hooked, the food was amazing, the staff really friendly with a little light hearted banter thrown in & exceptional value for money… I’ve been transported back in time 45 years & enjoyed every minute of it!!! Cannot wait for an excuse to return

Had fish and chips for my tea, the fish was great and fresh, cooked to perfection. The chips were also great. Staff were really friendly and cooked everything to order. There is a small area in the shop for placing your order.

After a long morning trek on the moors, a take-away lunch from the shop was spot on! The fish was full and flakey, really fresh! Pam, behind the counter, was really lovely to chat with and made me aware of scraps (we don't get these sown south), and I'm now always on the search for them! Cannot recommend highly enough!

Had regular cod and chips this evening fish was just the right portion size was lovely husband had large haddock which he really enjoyed be back again ☺

Visiting from Leicestershire - our local chippy has won awards for the best in the County, and it doesn’t compare with this place. I didn’t even add salt and vinegar because there was so much flavour in the chips. Enormous fish with just the right balance between crispy and juicy batter. We made a big order and they handled it brilliantly and safely. We are up here for another 4 days and will make sure we visit again before we go. I’m looking forward to trying the parmo next time.

Worst chippy I have ever been to. Pale, rancid chips. Chewy batter on fish. Gravy like dishwater.

Delicious! We had battered sausage, chips and scraps 2 days in a row whilst visiting from Devon. Cooked in dripping, so much tastier. Staff were lovely and helpful too. Can't recommend highly enough. If we lived in Osmotherley would eat there all the time. ( Maybe just as well, even these guys can't make them slimming! )

Good prices and huge portions, if I knew the large portion will be the size of a whale I would of bought smaller haha absolutely delicious. Very friendly lady behind the counter :)
