What has happened to the Orient, food terrible had chicken balls Kong po chicken, egg fried rice, all disgusting, and went in the bin ,

Shockingly cr@p take away. I wish I had read the reviews beforehand. There's a review from last year.. (Trippy Owl Sept 2023). I had the sweet & sour chicken balls and can relate to their review regarding the chewy chicken balls, absolutely disgusting to put it nicely! Also, the amount of sauce is so disproportionate to cover the balls. A total rip-off and waste of £40. The bag was as heavy as it arrived from what was thrown. Never again will I entertain this rip-off joint.

The service was excellent, with delivery arriving at the specified time frame. Food arrived hot and tasted wonderful even though it was a fair distance to our accommodation.

i am really disappointed with the quality of food we got served. I love putting money into local chinese takeaways but this place does not deserve it. I make better chinese at home hahah. Do not go to this take away. Lots of love x

Take away only. Average. Plenty of food but egg fried rice was really brown cardboard hard rice, with no visible egg. The szechuan dish was flavoursome but the chicken (as with many places) tasted like pre-cooked reheated chicken, rather than cooked from fresh. I would only go if hungry and it was nearby.

So, I went in for a takeaway, and asked the girl behind the counter what I could have that was dairy free. She replied that they were a dairy free takeaway. I thought that was bit weird but didn't challenge it, as my local Chinese in Southampton does sell the same meal which is actually dairy free! I ordered sweet and sour chicken balls and she even said to her colleague "this one is dairy free". On the way out, I saw a sign on their wall stating that some items may contain milk, (dairy free doesn't fit into this statement) but didn't think anything of it as I should learn to trust people. Biggest mistake I ever made. Within 30 minutes of eating my dinner, I was sick which continued all the way throughout the next morning, ruining an evening and the rest of the next day of my short holiday. Your staff obviously don't understand the implications of telling someone who has a dairy intolerance, that it's safe to eat food containing dairy. I feel more training should be given to all your front of house staff, as two of them had the chance to tell me my dinner was NOT dairy free. As I was staying 5 miles away from the shop and had to rely on someone taking me back, there was no way I was able to return it.

Super yummy, lovely team. Best Chinese in Newquay. Always get Chinese from here and it never fails, quality all around.

Simple, excellent. Most Chinese’s have a similar menu, and this is the same. However the dishes were excellent. The indicator for me is the meat/sauce ratio (as meat is comparatively expensive) - and in this the dishes were excellent. Ordered, collected in 15 min, nice and hot.

Just ordered a takeaway, Food is really tasty, lady on the phone was really nice and patient, food was hot. Can’t fault. Definitely recommend.

Great food, quick delivery. Honestly can’t fault it. Food was tasty, well cooked and the portion sizes were great.

The young guy who took my order was very friendly and welcoming. I ordered sweet and sour king prawn and egg fried rice, and I have to say it was very tasty and plentiful. In fact, it was excellent, so I shall be returning before going back to Manchester. Would I recommend this establishment most certainly.

Ordered a takeaway for collection - it was ready promptly and on time. Food was great - having checked the website we ordered Chicken Chow Mein (Dry) as their website states they do two different styles. We also had sweet and sour chicken Cantonese style, egg fried rice, salt and pepper chicken - All was delicious and tasty. Thoroughly recommend if staying in the area and want a decent takeaway.

Fantastic Chinese takeaway. They accommodated a variety of difficult dietary requirements perfectly and delivered beautiful food really quickly. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

I ordered Duck with Plumb Sauce. I got Pineapple Segments in Plumb Sauce with a few (4) pieces of duck tossed on top. Less than a quarter of the amount of duck I’ve ever got before in this dish at takeaways. I’m now hungry, and getting sick of pineapple! I reckoned I was recognised as a visitor, as opposed to a local who might frequent.

Fancied a takeaway while away on holiday. We were going to get one from the other Chinese a couple of doors away but it was closed. Decided to try the orient, expensive mistake. I had King prawn chow mein and literally all I could eat was the prawns, the rest had been cooked in so much sugar, it was inedible. Since when is chow mein supposed to be sweet? Chucked it all in the bin and had a chip sandwich instead.

My partner and I were excited to have a Chinese after a long day exploring, the reviews made us decide this was a good choice however we couldn’t have been more wrong. Couldn’t get through to place an order for delivery so had to postpone our evening relaxation to go in to order, when we got back we were absolutely gutted at the lack of flavour, worst Chinese I’ve ever had. They chucked all sorts that wasn’t listed into the chicken with cashew nuts such as baby sweet corn and mushrooms, but it did nothing for the watery, bland taste of the chicken and the rice we bought to accompany it. Would encourage anyone to avoid.

I really enjoy the food here but usually you have to phone over a hundred times to even get through. Feel like they should offer an alternative system to pre book food or even book online.

Food was average compared to other Chinese takeaways. The chicken in the chicken chow Mein looked like it had been boiled, not much colour or taste to it. The sweet and sour sauce which came with the chicken balls was small compared to many other takeaways. The chicken balls itself was nice and the pork was good too.

Have used the Orient for longer than I can remember, excellent home delivery service and varied menu to suit all tastes.

Our first visit on our holiday, and this place was perfectly acceptable.Spare Ribs in Honey, Duck Curry, Fried Rice, Mixed Veg and a Pancake Roll. They added a free portion of Prawn Crackers.Average price, average quality, reasonable waiting time, and very helpfu8l service from a young man who knew his menu well.

Really nice food. Very tasty and good quality. We ordered via text in the afternoon then collected at an arranged time. Only had to wait a couple of minutes for it to be bagged. Good value for money.

Meat was poor quality and fairly on the uncooked side. Home delivery forgot some of our order which was refunded as they my couldn’t justify driving back then returning with the full order (not much emphasis on customer service it seems). Only one bag of prawn crackers for a £63 order. Generally underwhelming and we wouldn’t eat here again. Regards.

Worst Chinese take away I’ve ever had. Duck and pineapple, watery, big chunks of carrots, duck was tasteless and mostly fat. Disgusting. Egg fried rice was a weird colour, not white, light and fluffy with bits of egg in. Absolutely awful. Very disappointing.

Although you read various reviews before choosing where to order your meal you're always wondering if you'd chosen well. We had our usual choices when we're away - a mixed curry and a chop suey. Both had plenty of meat, although I was a little surprised to see what looked like strips of spam in the curry - a first for me! The curry was good though, tasty but not too gluey as some often are. So 0 a good meal that we enjoyed.

Visiting Newquay for a few days and decided to try this for our quiet night in and we were not disappointed!Food was so good and portions were huge!! We called ahead and were given a collection time, service was lovely on the phone and when collecting. Definitely worth a try if passing.

Last night in Newquay and thanks to all the idiots in the town ignoring government guidelines and social distancing, we opted for a takeaway.After looking at various reviews, The Orient seemed to be a good choice.We walked to the takeaway and placed the order over the counter and waited outside.Food arrived with 15 to 20 minutes, which wasn't a problem as we could they were very busy.Now a quick walk back to the hotel to enjoy our meals.We had both ordered chicken chow mein with BBQ spare ribs as a greedy indulgence.The chow mein was okay and lots of chicken in it for sure, but it was more like a big Pot Noodle with vegetables and was nothing like a chow mein we have had before from other takeways. Don't get me wrong it was okay, just different ingredients and no bean sprouts just noodles?Same with the spare ribs, they were okay but they were bathing in a very fatty gravy. But perhaps that was out fault for not asking for a dry version? We just assumed that BBQ ones would come dry and not soaking in a tub of gravy?In summary, the meal was okay but nothing special and if we return again we wouldn't have the same meals.

Found a hair in my food! Hair was in the rice. Definitely not returning. The only reason I ordered here was because I couldn’t get through to tai sing, I won’t do that again.

ordered 6pm for delivery 8pm turned up 8.50 tried calling 160 times , when arrived absolute .rap pot noodle taste better and duck dried like jerky recommend get fish an chips or a pasty

The waitress was so lovely, polite and attentive! Unfortunately the food was poor. I had a vermicelli noodle broth dish.. it was literally plain noodles in water with plan veg and meat. It was so bland! I wasn’t too sure of the food after I heard a microwave ping in the kitchen as well, makes me wonder what they’re re-heating? Partner said his food was ‘okay’ nothing special.

First of all I’d like to say that the customer service here is amazing. We pre-booked via the Facebook messenger Option on their page, quick responses, very polite and helpful. The food arrived exactly on time and the driver received a tip. We were also pleasantly surprised to some free prawn crackers. Thank you for this. If this review were to be based solely on the above I would give a 5*. However, the crispy duck was fair to say, quite overdone. Most of the skin was slightly burnt and the actual meat was very dry and tough, and the rice was slightly hard. My partner had the chow mein and Did say the chicken was a bit rubbery and bland, to which I agreed. It’s an awful shame as we have heard so many lovely things! We will however, at some point, try again maybe with Different dishes and give it another go, as the customer service was so good.

Excellent! Staying in Newquay for a weeks holiday , found this chinese on trip advisor menu on line and they deliver. Ordered a set meal for 4 plus salt & pepper squid - cannot fault any of it. Plenty of food to feed 2 adults & 3 teenagers , struggled to finish it all! And you didn’t get the Chinese hangover you sometimes get with too much MSG in your food. Will definitely use again

Our baby has a very sensitive intolerance to soy and dairy. As my wife is breast feeding if she eats any soy or dairy we end up with a very upset baby and invariably nobody in the house gets any sleep for a night or two. The team were very conscientious, checked all ingredients and called us back to let us know there was soy in some of the ingredients. We are grateful for this.If you or a family has an allergy or intolerance the orient appear to be both diligent and accommodating. And, the food Is lovely too.

Ordered from here to deliver to Hendra Caravan site and they arrived at the time said, easy to pre pay by card, so collected from the reception area. The meal itself was hot and lovely and fresh, in fact one of the nicest Chinese’s we’ve had - would definitely recommend if you want a treat to your site

We visited Newquay for a few days break at the start of the lifting of lock down. Ordered from the Orient as they had the best feedback. Prices of the food was reasonable, food was delivered quite quickly (20 minutes) and arrived hot. I had special curry and instead of char Sui pork It had thin strips of spam like meat! Chicken and beef were fine but for a sea town no large prawns, just 3 mini ones! My mum had sweet and sour chicken balls and brother a chicken curry, all nice with chips, rice, but curry sauce a bit bland. Pleasant meal and I would try it again.

Ordered food tonight, and as usual nearly everything was excellent - but a couple of issues - really tight on the prawn crackers ( rather get them in advance from Lidl/Aldi save about £3) and had the most YN salt and Chilli ribs ever - apart from some below average ribs - some one forgot the chilli and the salt. Everything else was brilliant m, including ordering, payment and delivery. Torn between praise and annoyed ☹️

Every Thursday during lockdown we have a "pub night in" which involves a takeaway, an online quiz night and some alcohol. The Orient gets our order every 2nd week (well we can't eat Chinese all the time!!) I have ordered something different every time and have never been disappointed. Tonight was the chicken with fresh tomatoes and garlic and it was delicious. I really can't fault anything about this establishment - excellent service, excellent food and brilliant, helpful staff. We recently ordered another delicious takeaway from here. Everything was perfect and online with the Covid-19 guidelines. The customer service was excellent, food was amazing and great value. The team are always friendly and helpful. Not only do they provide excellent takeaways but provide meals to the key workers in our community in Newquay. Thank you for all you do at The Orient.

Horrible night thought let the delivery driver go out in this and have a take out The Orient told me 45 mins was delivered in 30. Chilli ribs lovely and spicy, special rice full of vegetables and really tasty. All in all a really nice meal.

We collected the meal and were home in 2 minutes, it was cold. The soup was like cabbage water and the chicken dish was chewey and the chicken look suspect it was stringey and fatty. Have to say the worst takeaway we have had and we are not particularly fussy. To add a positive the beef dish was ok.

Brillant high quality food. Very friendly staff. Would 100% recommended this Chinese takeaway. Reasonable prices. Never had a bad meal from them.

Tried all Chineses in town and this is by far the best, well-packaged home delivery, piping hot, fast and really tasty.

I love the food here its lovely and tasty but when every i order for delivery they can never seem to find my address, so its never too my door as i have to go out to get my food other then that would def recommend.

Wow got to put this review straight on what an amazing Chinese takeaway. Myself the Mrs and two kids agree the best Chinese we have ever had. Crispy duck, special chow mein, chicken chow mein and sweet and sour chicken and curry. Meat was tasty and plentiful and wow just wow. Delivery to Yorkshire ?

Don't know if it was lack of a chef or the lack of food but the food ordered was terrible. We ordered 7 meals of which 3 were just about acceptable. The curries had a watery consistency with very little content apart from an overload of onions. The rice and chips were both overcooked. The veg chowmein was more like a onion chowmein with the odd veg and the mushroom curry was Vile! Very very disappointed as the last time we ordered the food was outstanding.

We had chinese delivered tonight it arrived pipping hot the meals were full of meat full of veg ie carrots sweetcorn brocclie not full of bamboo shoots and onions like most.We were told when we ordered it would be 45mins but only took 30 the chicken balls batter was really crispy really enjoyed will be ordering again soon

I’m sorry but this takeaway is not a patch on the Chinese takeaway that’s a few doors up.

Visited this takeaway , now located near the station. Food was good-flavoursome, hot and had plenty of chicken/ meat in the dishes. Very pleased with our meal.

We were staying in a local holiday park and decided to order a takeaway and even better when we found out that they deliver! we placed the order over the phone and the service was great, we were advised a waiting time of 45 minutes but received our call to say the delivery had arrived on site only 25 minutes after ordering, once we tucked into our takeaway the food was piping hot, very fresh and very very delicious, a lovely holiday treat.

Food fantastic sweet and sour chicken best ever and the Singapore chicken perfect And was nice to have a large bag of prawn crackers could not eat everything so you know you have had plenty

The Orient moved and is now a takeaway based near the railway station. We have been using them when they were based in Henver Road and still do since they moved.

We love this place although we only have a Chinese once in a blue moon these days. We have tried all the local Chinese takeaways around here and here just seemed to taste the best with the same things we ordered. Always recommend this place to friends who are looking for a cheeky Chinese.

Had a takeaway from here a couple of times now as a big group due to suggestion (never have chosen it if just me and my partner) have tried 3 vegetarian dishes and each and every one has been bland. You couldn’t really differentiate a difference between any of them. Just an orange sticky sauce and the satay wasn’t peanutty or have a kick at all. The vegetable spring rolls were just mush inside.... and having asked for “salt & peppered or chilli salt” chips which we get from another local Chinese.... we got given a normal bag of chips with a sprinkling of normal ground salt and pepper in the bag. Can’t speak for the meat..... but everything I had including the rice and noodles also was bland.

Chose on recommendation of owner of apartment we are staying in. Worst Chinese we've ever had. It gets two stars for the ok soup, excellent ribs and chicken balls. BUT oh dear, the rest. The mains of duck chow mein, char siu with ginger and spring onion and house special fried rice were incredible in their inedibleness. Huge chunks of ginger, flabby, tasteless pork (not char siu), overcooked rice with loads of SPAM or the like in it and awful boiled tasting bland duck attached to gloopy skin. Most of meal was dispatched into the bin. Oh, and delivery woman was quite rude and I would like my tip back please!

We ordered a takeaway from here on NYE while staying in Crantock. Despite not being in Newquay, it took just over half an hour for our food to be made & delivered to us. The food was tasty & in large quantities - only order one bag of prawn crackers (they’re huge!). The delivery charge wasn’t too steep either (£5), so made for a reasonably priced & enjoyable takeaway overall.

After looking for the best Chinese in the area, we decided to order a takeaway from The Orient as it was more convenient to park and collect.

On a recent trip to Newquay my wife and I decided to try this take away. It is in a good location with easy parking right by the door. The food was tasty and plentiful and we thought it was reasonable value for money. We would have no hesitation in returning if we are in the area again.

The prawn crackers were nice. The main dishes had plenty of meat but very little flavour. Would not recommend.

Had a takeaway from here... its now on station approach Newquay town centre...wasn't as impressed as I was hoping.. food was average... lacked flavour and was soooo salty... don't have salt and pepper/chilli chips... it literally was just re=heated chips with salt and pepper on

Never miss a chance to have a takeaway from the Orient when I'm in Newquay and as always it was spot on fresh, tasty, hot and amazing can highly recommend to anyone who likes fresh food and in particular try the spring rolls they are superb best I have ever tried and I've tried many in different countries theirs is by far the best. Don't miss out if you come to Newquay deffo have an orient meal.

Yo estaba de vacaciones en Newquay, cuando en el jueves por la tarde me decidí a China curry. Mi favorito ha sido siempre Gambas Curry que recogí como pude conseguir en el teléfono pensando que estaban ocupados. Pero no lo estaban.

Food is always spot on and the staff are friendly. The only reason I haven't put 5 stars is sometimes we can't get through to them on the phone as they are always so busy, but this obviously goes to show how popular they are. Delivery is good too. Thank you Orient!

This has to be the worst food I have never eaten, even the smell put me off. Just absolutely terrible. Stone cold and foul. Helpful staff but the food leaves a lot to be desired.

There is never much of a queue plus you can have it delivered which saves the travel. It is in the heart of newquay which makes it a great place to go after a day out exploring newquay.

Was wary after reading the reviews but shouldn't have worried. Food was excellent, delivered on time and beautiful. 5 stars!

After reading bad reviews on here but having staff at our hotel recommend it to us we thought we would go for it!We where staying at fistral beach hotel and fancied a take away so ordered from here it was just like eating at home lovely food very fast and nothing to complain about thank you!

this place has gone from quite good to really bad. last visit the beef in blackbean was bland and too chewy to eat. had too many poor meals now in a row. wont be back

This is what the menu should have said:Satay chicken - served in water with extremely tough bland chickenPeking ribs - not too badThai chicken curry - pieces of dry chicken served in a bland sauce with sweet chilli sauce added for the lightest of flavour. Kung Po chicken - dry chicken served with stale cashews in a sugar sauceChips - chew a rock from your garden and see if you still have teeth. If yes go for these tasty treats.Oh and they charge nearly £3 for delivery. Thanks Orient, never again.

Delivery charge and the pork was horrible. Pancake role was a good size, mostly bean sprouts though.Wouldn't recommend.

The food was average from here. The pancake roll was massive and lacked flavour. Small serving of prawn toast compared to other takeaways I have had it from. The food wasn't bad it just wasn't as amazing as I have had elsewhere.

Before the orient had moved I had never been to there restaurant. What a mistake. The food from the takeaway is amazing. They are my always go to takeaway from Newquay and if anyone asks where to eat that's my first choice. There service is very good and always nice and friendly staff working there. Never once had a bad meal from here.

Had a takeaway whilst on holiday Satay Chicken & Cantonese Style King Prawns. The Satay Chicken tasted like no other I have ever had it was bland and boring. The Prawns were tasteless. We normally go to a Chinese around the corner - wish we had done this time. Will not be revisiting.

I thought we'd give this Takeaway a try. I so regret that decision after walking home I found half our meal was missing when I dished up. I couldn't get through on the phone so I had to walk back down..after a long day at work..I really didn't need it. The phone was off the hook. ..The attitude of the manager was appalling. .apparently I should have scraped the food back in to the bag so they could have cooked me a new meal he offered me the taxi fare home and couldn't care less about my opinion when offered..considering their 1star hygeine rating they really don't deserve any custom. .the food was very dry and tasteless .we won't go again..

Well...We wanted a Chinese and didn't know where to try..rang the Orient, they were happy to deliver to our rented holiday house out of town. The food came as they said and was piping hot. Food for 4 adults..great meal and all eaten. My only thing would be...up north we get 6 or 8 pieces of prawn toast not just 4... that aside. Spot on.

Went for a full meal. The staff were very attentive and the food was good. Love oriental food and we were not disappointed.

Was this food microwaved from a discount store range? In Fact, that doesn't even do justice to the revolting, inedible pulp served at this establishment. Avoid at any cost, I'd choose a McDonald's burger over this shambolic display of Chinese cuisine.

My child was having a coughing fit and was almost choking, I asked for a glass of water from the girl behind the counter and was refused. I was told they don't have any!! And was offered a bottle of water for £1.50 for a sip of water to aid a child in distress, an utter disgrace, any drinking vessel would have aided my 4year old child, to have to pay when he was obvious distress is an utter joke especially when the bottle served would have cost the restaurant less than 25p. What do the staff drink out of on shift? Or do they also have to pay for water. Avoid this place at all costs.

From the website there was no information about closure of the restaurants for refurnishment. Even when we put our takeaway order via phone from the number we found on the website, we were not told that we had to collect our food from a small takeaway shop of the same name near Newquay Police Station. We only discovered this after being informed by the builder working in the restaurant which was closed!The food was OK. It was a bit too sugary. The Thai green chilli beef is not as nice as other Thai restaurant's.
