We went for the roast lunch, and the overall experience really felt like the offering was an afterthought to the afternoon tea. I ordered the beef and my friend ordered the vegetarian nut roast option. The presentation was fantastic and I was excited to try. Although the roast beef was ordered as medium, it turned up well done. The meat was ladled with garlic to the point where I couldn't taste the beef and was unable to eat. Having said that, the vegetables were delicious. Unfortunately, no one asked us how our meal was, and there was no opportunity to correct.

This is a lovely different venue set in Kensington Gardens. We visited with friends in a total party of 8, and the menu was good and lunch beautifully presented and tasty. However poor service by the team has diminished this experience from very good to average. Firstly we booked for 8, but on arrival, they tried to force us on to 2 tables of 4, saying this was in their terms and conditions. It took some effort on our part to get the already booked table of 8. Secondly we agreed to a bottle of house wine which we were assured was Pinot Grigio, only to be brought a bottle of Riesling without any consultation or explanation. Finally we had to query the bill which contained 2 items with a total value £22,00. These were ordered but never arrived. The revised bill only showed a reduction of £3.00, which we did not and still do not understand. No explanation ! I feel we were overcharged by £17.00, but the bill was presented in such a complicated way it was difficult to understand and frankly, we rather gave up trying. Why do they do this? A response from the restaurant on these points would be appreciated.

Waited on by a French waiter who shockingly asked me if I am American, and then presumed to tell me what tea I would want without asking. Then the staff asked if I am okay with “cross contamination” from shellfish because the kitchen “can’t operate in a vacuum.” Okay, so this restaurant can’t make accommodations for food allergies. But this is the ONLY restaurant in the UK that I’ve had an issue with on years of visits, and treating patrons this way isn’t a good look. Save your £ and try elsewhere for a more pleasant afternoon tea experience.

Very disappointing experience, expensive, dreadful service and awful food (dry, lukewarm sandwiches, soggy pastries, rock hard scones). This is just a pretty renovated room trading on the name / prestige of the venue.

The baroque Orangery, located next to Kensington Palace in Kensington Gardens, was built in 1704–05 for Queen Anne as an orangery for her citrus trees. The Orangery is enclosed by stunning grounds with views of the palace beyond and features a magnificent south-facing terrace. The Orangery offers an extensive seasonal menu. Today for breakfast I ordered a mushroom omelette, which makes for a delightful and wholesome breakfast option that is both nutritious and satisfying. I really enjoyed this protein-packed, flavorful breakfast. To drink I ordered loose leaf English breakfast tea. It is a classic blend that offers a robust and full-bodied flavor, making it an ideal choice for starting the day. Unlike tea bags, loose leaf tea allows the leaves to expand fully during steeping, which enhances the infusion process and results in a richer, more complex taste. Typically comprising a mixture of Assam, Ceylon, and Kenyan black teas, this blend is known for its malty, brisk, and slightly citrusy notes. It's often enjoyed with milk and sugar, but its bold flavor can also be appreciated on its own. English tea prepared with traditional method, which involves using a tea infuser or a teapot, not only elevates the drinking experience but also pays homage to the timeless art of tea making. Overall it was a satisfying meal with a balance of flavours that worked well together. Trying a traditional British breakfast at the Orangery can be a delightful experience for your taste buds and a fascinating journey into British culinary culture. Additionally, pairing it with a cup of strong British tea can enhance your breakfast experience. Later, after visiting the palace and gardens, I went to the Orangery again, this time to enjoy the afternoon tea ceremony. English afternoon tea is a delightful and quintessentially British tradition that dates back to the early 19th century. Typically served between 3:30 and 5 PM, it was introduced by Anna, the Duchess of Bedford. English afternoon tea ceremony usually includes a pot of freshly brewed tea, often served with a selection of delicate sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, and an assortment of pastries and cakes. The sandwiches are often filled with classic combinations like cucumber, egg and cress, smoked salmon, or ham and mustard. I really enjoyed the selection of delicate, savoury sandwiches on the bottom tier. In particular, the open English sandwich with salmon roses was very tasty. The coronation chicken finger roll was also interesting. The middle tier is reserved for scones, which are accompanied by cream and strawberry jam, providing the perfect combination of texture and rich flavours. The upper tier is the crowning glory, decorated with an array of sweet pastries and miniature cakes, including Victoria sponge cake, cream cupcakes, chocolate ganache and choux pastry covered in orange icing to resemble the half-orange fruit from the Queen Anne's Orangery. The ritual of afternoon tea is not just about the food, but also about the experience—it encourages relaxation, conversation, and a moment of indulgence in the middle of the day. Exploring this culinary tradition can give you a deeper appreciation for British culture and its emphasis on hearty, comforting meals to start the day. I recommend it to anyone who would like to experience a fascinating journey into British culinary culture! Sehr schade. Leider keinerlei Weiterempfehlung.

We had a wonderful time. The afternoon tea was gorgeous; the cakes and sweets were super yummy, orange flavored scones and fresh sandwiches. The staff was professional and very kind, they offered us refills for the tea, which, by the way, has got an excellent quality! The creamy cappuccino was just perfect. The building is so impressive: elegant, very comfortable and clean, with views of the Kensington Gardens. The lovely manager Petric came to our table to check if everything was ok. Highly recommend.

We had booked this a few weeks ago and wanted a 3pm sitting but the latest offered to us was 1.45pm. When we got there, it was very quiet with many empty tables. Although they had our booking, it seemed a bit haphazard, as if they weren't expecting us. We were seated on a corner sofa with a table set up for 2, when we were a party of 3. There were a few staff around but we could not catch anyone's attention and waited a full 20 minutes before I managed to get someone to come over. I think it was the manager, and I said we were disappointed to have been ignored for so long. He immediately saw that the table was too small for our party and moved us to a much better table. He took our order and as a nice gesture gave us a glass of sparkling wine, albeit a small measure. After that, we were left again for a long time before a server came to us and asked to take our order. We said we had ordered already and there seemed to be a bit of confusion. Eventually we got our afternoon tea, at more or less the time that we had originally wanted it - 3pm. The restaurant remained quiet and it is beyond me why we could not have booked at that time in the first place. Every time we needed something we had to catch someone's attention. We felt completely invisible and even bringing more tea seemed too much trouble. The quickest service we had was when we asked for the bill! The afternoon tea is not cheap and we have had much better in other establishments in London - with free top-ups of sandwiches and cakes etc. and not just tea. We were never offered any more wine, which we would have paid for and generally we felt completely neglected and, quite frankly, in the way. On departure, we were ignored again, except for the manager who was busy with another table but said a quick goodbye. We will definitely not be coming back and will not be recommending The Orangery to any of our friends. Such a disappointment. We did pay the 12.5% added service charge but with great reluctance.

Fair warning: we didn’t get to consume the food or tea. I can’t provide an honest feedback on that however I am rating this terribly because I booked a tea time this past Friday about a month ish ahead of time & had confirmed reservations for said date and time when we got there we were told the orangery was closed for a private event! I received no email or message in any way about this change. I had been deeply looking forward to this specific tea time & was so disappointed that it was cancelled with no notice at all. I was really upset, if I had known I would’ve looked at another venue for tea time while we were on holiday.

We made a booking online which was nice and easy. We were warmly greeted and taken to our table straight away. I’d say we waited about ten mins for our order to be taken and that was after two members of staff saying that they’d be with us shortly. We ordered the cream tea for adults and children. It was beautifully presented in a three tier stand. The cakes and sandwiches were pretty average to be honest. For the price, it felt like a bit of a rip off. I’m happy to pay for cream tea and have paid more than double in the past but I’d expect the food to match the price. It was not terrible, it was just average. The setting is of course stunning. It’s a lovely day out to do some shopping on the high street and then a nice walk in the gardens.

Celebrated by sisters wedding here in July, staff were very unwilling to help and accept responsibility for a pair of earrings that were taken from my bag (that could not have been taken from the bridesmaids or bridal party as I was in there with them the whole time) After my family have spent a substantial amount of money you would think they would offer to help cover the cost of a missing item, that should not have left the bridal suit. The lock on the bathroom door in the bridal suit also didn’t work, which wasn’t ideal, and the lightbulb getting go out. Not what you expect when paying too money for a wedding venue. However the venue is stunning and the gardens are very well maintained, just a shame about the staff, as I myself am getting married and would have considered the Orangery, however due to the aftercare and way the staff have spoken to me afterwards, I would avoid at all costs!! Great while they’re taking your money beforehand but can’t be more unhelpful after.

Be sure to BOOK WELL IN ADVANCE. It's easy to do online at the Kensington Palace website. They do not seem to accept walk-ins. We had a regular tea (Orangery Tea 28.50 gbp) that came with enough tea sandwiches to fill us for the day. They also offer Royal Tea with Champagne 38.50, lunch and breakfast. Service was attentive but not rushed, you have time to linger over the sweets at the top of the tray - which are delicious. There are many lovely places to gather your family for photos here - then pop over to the palace for a tour. The Diana garden is steps away from the Orangery. My daughter felt this relaxing afternoon was the most memorable part of her trip. London tea & gardens, despite the rain, beat out Paris shopping!

Portions ridiculously small. between 2 of us, we had - 4 triangles of cucumber and mint sandwiches and they could only have been made from one slice of bread!!! - coronation chicken wrap that was only 4 cm long (minute), - tiny bridge roll each (6cm long).- Scones OK, but the clotted cream was actually whipped cream!!!- One tiny slice of Battenberg 4cm square- one small éclair with some sort of citrus filling- worst of all was 2 heart shaped cake, which took a while to work out what it was as it was SOLID and it was cold as though it had been defrosted. When we mentioned this they said that they were kept in the fridge -how is that a fresh cake!!! (and they did not offer us anything like more drink as a compensation for our disappointment).- the last thing was a mouse each but the glassed were tiny and were no more than a breakfast spoonful (we know this as we shared then between us and they were only a few teaspoons!!!!Also, I needed to use the bathroom and I had to get my coat on and use my umbrella as you had to go outside the building and around the back to the toilet block!!It was quite a pretty location, but when you looked around inside, you could see a lot of grime on the high fixtures.would not recommend this to anyone as it is a total waste of money. When I asked if they could supply more, they said that we would have to pay. we would also have to pay if we required our drinks to be topped up (tea and coffee).

Very helpful maitre'd who organised an extended table for our party (a tea party for our 84year old matriarch). Kate, our waitress, was extremely efficient and managed to get all 7 different drinks correct first time even after several changes of mind! Whilst portion size may look a little small at first sight there was food left over at the end of our visit and a 'doggie bag' was offered for the remaining cakes without hesitation. Our visit was late in the afternoon and we were concerned that the sandwiches may be slightly stale, however we were very pleased that everything served was fresh, moist and very enjoyable. Excellent venue, just a shame that if you needed the toilet facility it was a hike around the outside of the building (in the rain!). Overall, good value and we will return soon.

But forget lunch: the dishes are more like a mid afternoon snack and the menu descriptions are confusing or made on purpose so a snack can look like a meal. It's so rare that a place as beautiful and famed as The Orangery lives up to expectations, much less exceeds them. The Orangery did just that -- exceeded all of our expectations and more. Our family was there during the busy Easter bank holiday weekend. Despite being very busy, we received exceptional service. We were also pleased by the price. Afternoon tea is a lovely and somewhat pricey treat, but, in comparison to many of the other prices we have paid at high-end restaurants and historic sights that serve afternoon tea, The Orangery was a very good value. The delicious tea treats were of superior quality as was the tea itself. Our service was spectacular. Manager Lukas was delightful and kind, taking time to answer questions about London, The Orangery, and even to visit with our family. Afternoon tea in The Orangery is that little bit more special than a quick cuppa and a sandwich in the usual tourist spots. We received a lovely welcome and, once seated, the service was swift and the staff very pleasant. The venue is very light and airy and, with plenty of space between the tables, the experience is very personal, as you don't feel that you are simply crammed into a tourist cafe. It's a little oasis in the middle of a busy day. A good choice of teas, nicely served, with a varied selection of sandwiches, pastries and cakes and, of course, traditional scones, jam and cream. There is nothing overly special about this tea, but the whole event is relaxing, pleasant and calming in a peaceful setting. The staff were friendly, attentive, efficient and alert to our needs and, in particular, the manager went that extra mile to make our visit special when he learned that we were celebrating a family event. As afternoon teas go, this is fairly priced and good value. Other venues, perhaps, offer more sophisticated teas at various prices, but we were more than satisfied, we would go again, and we would recommend it to others. Altogether a pleasant experience.

For a place to grab a quick tea while touring the area it’s a few steps above McDonald’s and is quite adequate, but that’s just it – adequate.

Having visited Kensington Palace we walked though the gardens to the Orangery. What an amazing interior the building has. We ordered tea and cake and then had to choose the type/blend of tea we wanted - what a choice! Excellent service. Expensive, but who cares!

Recently came here for a visit during our trip to London for a few beers. Had to visit as my brother had worked here many years ago. Beer was great. Staff was friendly.
