The Orange Tree Cafe/Restaurant in The Vale of Glamorgan

This place has gone down hill! Food is so over priced. Waited ages for a table as the staff just ignored you and then waited ages to be served. And never come to you with a follow up to ask if you wanted another drink or ask how the food is. Which is just basic customer service. It’s a shame because it used to be a favourite.

Took far to long waiting for food, although nothing to do with restaurant, the parking at the garden centre is atrocious.

I have been to this restaurant before, and everything was fine, and I left a good review. This time, on the 29/06. We waited 45mins, we enquired where the 5 breakfasts were, then they came out. It was clear they had been left. Cold, toast pre-cooked, overcooked bacon, cold beans, a small tomato, a small mushroom, a small piece of black pudding, a really overcooked egg - not much on the plate nor to talk about for £15 each. £85 for the bill for 5 - I will not be going back!

Lovely cafe located in the garden centre!! Varied choice on the menu. We both enjoyed our choices. Great friendly service today from Brett. Ordered and paid at the table which was good. Thank you

The best breakfast ever! The Hash Stack was absolutely delicious! The hollandaise sauce was OMG. The customer service was lovely. And the cakes qualitative. I can't wait to go back!

Really nice garden centre cafè - portion sizes are super generous and the toasties and burgers are 10/10. Staff were also nice and quick service.

This afternoon visited orange tree for lunch. I was amazed at the portion of food. I had ordered ham egg and chips. I thought it would be bog standard. But it was amazing enough for 2 people. The portion of ham was mega!! So much so I made myself a doggie bag to give to my pooch!! Definitely recommend Tge Orange Tree !! Will return.

Really good food but a bit pricey

We had to wait to be sat down yet there were loads of table available. We arrived before the 11:30 cut off time for breakfast but because they have one person doing the orders, it was ridiculously slow. Which led to us being told we couldn’t have breakfast. Then waiting for drinks took an overly long time and to top it all off? You have to go and pay yourself at the till. What is the point of having table service? If you still have to go up to the counter to pay? It would logically make more sense to just go up to the counter, order your own food and pay all under the one. There was no apology from the staff for the wait, and no alternatives offered when they said we couldn’t have breakfast. Very bad customer service.

Lovely place, but expensive. £41 for 2 vegan breakfasts & 1 kids breakfast. Also you cannot swap any items out on your breakfast if you don't like it, and they cost an additional £2 per item.

Nice set up and comfortable space with a very (of course!) botanical feel. Very friendly staff, nice coffee and good cakery. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Guided seating, so generally a brief wait at entrance to be shown to a table. Orders taken at the table, so have a quick mooch at the cake counter once you've got your seat. New bathroom facilities very clean and spacious.

Found several of the staff very rude especially the manager

Waited to be seated gentleman who was serving looked at me so I started to walk in, he came along said you must wait to be seated, the restaurant had prob 6 tables being used the rest were empty he said do you want to sit here I said no thank you it's a bit clostrophobic can I sit by the window his face said it all i went to sit down he then said if I get a bigger party in you'll have to move I felt victimised as I was on my own so I walked out Such a rude man I was so looking forward to eating in there too

The orange tree restaurant; not the coffee shop, is located inside Pughs garden centre, It is wheelchair friendly, so accessibility is not an issue. First, you have to wait to be seated. It is table service only, which is strange considering they offer stunning cakes; which are on display. However, the signs mention that you're not allowed to go up to the counter, where the cakes are. My husband and I wanted to order the garden breakfast; this is the vegetarian option. However, when we ordered our food, we felt very uncomfortable. We only eat specific food, which unfortunately makes us fussy people. We were informed we couldn't swap food, which was fine, and the individual was brilliant in getting us the cheaper option. However, the process made us feel quite uncomfortable. Apart from this, the food was delicious. Wanted to lick my plate. The hot drinks we had were perfect, and service from all the staff after ordering were friendly, informative, polite and made us feel welcome.

We settled for Eggs benedict over sourdough bread slices consisting of poached eggs done in saucepan with runny yolks above chunky ham slices decorated with watercress salad leaves topped with Hollandaise sauce. My wife asked for poached eggs with sourdough. Apart from a slight delay with latté & tea due to a rush of orders. The meals were very tasty as the eggs prep was warm verses the cold ham.

Nice cafe in Pughs Garden Centre. The Cafe is table service. Food is homemade and reasonably priced. I went mid afternoon on a Saturday and the Cafe was quite busy, but the service was fine. There is a large free car park outside with ample parking. The Cafe has an outdoor seating area as well.

Food is as bad as it ever was. My cheese toastie had an inch thick layer of tasteless Gruyère cheese. Totally indigestible. Almost £13 got a cheese toastie and small coffee . Gross

Breakfast was missing black pudding on both plates and the sausages looked uncooked. A lot of money for poor quality.

Absolutely awful service. I sat down at 12:35 and ordered just a coffee for myself and a children’s meal for my 18 month year old son. My sons meal arrived at 2pm! After a 45 mins wait, I enquired as to where the children’s meal was. I was advised there was a technical error and the meal would be fast tracked - 45 mins later it arrived!!! Not only was the service terrible but so was the restaurant customer service skills. No apology, no acknowledgment that they had kept an 18 month child waiting or a mum with a young child trying her hardest to keep the child entertained. We were not offer a discount off the meal / a free drink not even an icecream for the inconvenience to my son. I don’t often take the time to leave reviews however I this case I have to warn the public of the horrendous customer service at this appalling place. Not at all child friendly. No empathy or customer service skills in fact I was made to feel like we were the issue. You should be ashamed Orange tree. If my son wasn’t literally starving I would have walked out!

Went to pughs garden centre Wenvoe today for a spot of lunch. 10/10 lovely service lovely food. The cakes are absolutely delicious.

Great service here, I was breast feeding when we visited and they let me stay until my baby and I were finished even though the cafe had closed. Really lovely staff and yummy coffee and cake!!

Called in mainly for a cup of coffee and cake, can not judge the food but others seem to be enjoying it. Coffee and cake was good.

The food was okay, slightly overpriced . A sandwich was £11. However, a burger & fries were £13. Staff were extremely relaxed, to the point a sloth would have looked in a hurry. The decor was lovely.

Lovely food and a really nice restaurant, the log fire was going and the whole place felt super cosy. There's dog friendly outdoor seating, and no reservations so you just have to wait for a table to be free.

They need to turn the office style lights down! Plus they lost business as they have too many rules about what they serve when. It's a cafe and they should think about making money.

Garden Centres seem to have the best cafés and this is the best of the best in my humble opinion. The service is great, the food lives up to expectations at a reasonable cost. All within lovely surroundings. Its very well run and would recommend.

Pitifully small Welsh breakfast.Toast was sourdough and very hard to eat.Quite expensive for what it was.But the Welsh tea was nice.

I’d heard great reviews about this but, it far exceeded our expectations! Quite honestly the best eggs Benedict I’ve ever had - I’m an aficionado of this dish so I’ve tried a few! My husband had the breakfast stack which was equally as good. It was that good we took 2 of the same dishes home for the kids in a take-out box. Free range eggs. Excellent value for money. Lovely decor, great coffee…. Excellent service & friendly staff. Highly recommend. Will return very soon xx

Used to be a five star location. Asked if they do Sunday dinners, they said not in the summer it's too hot in the kitchen, don't know how other kitchens cope. Had to send a glass back as it was dirty. Then we had to ask where our food was and was told the ticket didn't go through, some technology glitch and at no time was there any apology only excuses. Sad to see what used to be an excellent place so bad.

Food and ambience was awesome. Must go please.

This is the second time I've been here after a recommendation from a friend and I absolutely LOVE it. The food is delicious with a really varied menu and it arrives quickly. I have to be honest, it's not cheap and so far we haven't been served by anyone particularly friendly which is a shame but the selection is FANTASTIC with both sweet and savoury dishes and just a personal note, apologies but I ordered the gluten free coconut and lime cake which looked DIVINE but it was the most ghastly thing I've ever tasted. (Think Flash lemon floor cleaner!) but when I complained no refund was offered so maybe slightly better customer care would be good but the food and ambience are second to none

Utterly delicious. Large portions, innovative meals. A great place to eat either breakfast, dinner or just cake and tea.

The food was fantastic I wasn't sure what cake to have after my delicious burger and the waiter told me how good the carrot cake was and he wasn't wrong well recommended

This cafe is fantastic, great quality food with an interesting menu that has a good mix of classic cafe fare and more adventurous dishes like homemade curries. Staff are attentive and friendly. Its honestly the complete opposite of its sister operation in Radyr where the staff are quite unfriendly and honestly just seem harassed and cross that they have customers, and the menu is unimaginative and over priced for what it is. Definitely go to the Wenvoe Pughs if you want a pleasant dining experience.

A lovely Restaurant with very good food. I had the Ham, Cheese and Caramelised Onion Toasted Sandwich, and the ham was the nicest ham I have had in a long time. Lovely and tender.

Twice now we have been here for Sunday Lunch and both times we have had an amazing experience, yesterday it was mega busy and the staff still went above and beyond for us. The greeter even asked if where she was going to put us was ok and gave us a choice of another place in the restaurant to sit which is a nice touch as we can be a bit overwhelmed sitting in the middle. Love how the menu is full of local produce and they even source their blondies that we love from a local baker.

The food and drinks here are always lush. Friendly and quick service, and staff are able to provide good information about allergens in food/drinks. Nice decor in the cafe too, with a fire place in the middle for when it’s colder. Clean toilets. Cakes are lovely.

Food was okay. Setting was okay. Waiting staff were adequate. Gluten free dishes not available because it was busy. Chef stated it would be extra time to cook gluten free chips, and gave a time, which seemed too long so I ordered the cawl which came at the same time (40 minute wait) the chips would have if I had accepted the extra wait for gluten free chips...

The breakfast is OK, I was expecting more for the price. They don't swap anything on the breakfast either so my husband had to have a hashbrown which he didn't eat.

We turned up today for a breakfast sitting but ended up really disappointed. Having stood in a queue of only two people for twenty minutes (and at least six spare tables in the restaurant) we were eventually seated 5 minutes past the cut off time for breakfast and told we wouldn’t be able to have anything from the breakfast or “brunch” menu. Not only that, there was then a limited menu for a further 25 minutes. The only saving grace is that the food and drink is actually really lovely, but it’s difficult to get past bad service and strict menu rules that don’t take customers into consideration. We brought my family here having bigged it up and everyone looking forward to a great breakfast, with everyone ending up really disappointed and deflated. Not a great day for The Orange Tree.

Absolutely amazing service from super lovely and friendly staff! The food is incredible, just had the steak hash and I highly recommend! We come here quite often and every time has been just as great if not more so, it’s definitely our favourite place for lunch!
