Great cafe after a game of golf, but worth visiting even if you are not playing as the food is good value. They are Opening a restaurant extension 9 June Which will have a Halal menu.

A fantastic place to grab a hearty breakfast before a busy day. The cafe is a small simple place that does a good quality breakfast.

It's ok nothing special. The staff are efficient but don't come across friendly. They are There to do a job and that's what they do . No customer interaction if you know what I mean.

NB. Now known as Tad In The Hole. Use this place regularly when playing golf @ Hainault. Good range of breakfasts and other 'pub grub' type dishes. Portions are generally huge and prices very reasonable. Seems to be popular with golfers all day long and with cabbies/police for breakfast.

Best breakfast I've had in ages, I had a number 6 and my bf had a number 9. Staff were plesant, not overly busy, reasonably priced and decent sized portions.

Be aware the sausage and egg sandwich is huge 👌 😋 Really nice though

Ordered cheese on toast which took about 15 minutes when there were no other customers in there. Cheese was cheap mozarella and greasy as hell. Food preparer barely washed hands after returning from the toilet.. Place stunk of smoke from staff smoking near the back door being carried back in by breeze. Very disappointing as looks ok

Very poor, was allowed to order food, but nobody available to cook the food, waited 15 mins to find that out, but they still take orders for food that they cannot cook. Terrible service..

After 3 weeks in France of eating nothing but sugar and drinking average coffee, this little gem reminded us of what a good comfort breakfast is. The staff are warm and friendly and greet you with a genuine smile, the food is tasty and service is quick! Loved the coffee too. Definitely one for the to do list.

Although the English breakfasts are what everyone raves about here, I go off grid with egg white vegetable omelettes, or fresh haddock (when it’s on the specials board). The lunch specials are amazing and are always changing. Top chefs performing wonders in their open kitchen.

Out riding in the forest we stopped off at The Open Cafe as last time I was there I was very pleased with the food. This time it was no different, The service was brisk and the toasted sandwich was all that could be asked of it and the value was still very good. The tables like the rest of the cafe were clean and tidy.

Friendly local cafe, serving fresh, home made traditional food. Best breakfast, by a mile. The lunch specials are amazing.

Visited with girlfriend and family for brunch, was not disappointed. Prompt service and excellently cooked food, with good quality ingredients and homely atmosphere, as well as nice music. Would visit again.

Amazing cafe, with such nice staff. It's never a promlem to go off menu, here. The lunch specials are superb, and like I first saw on TripAdvisor, this place really does serve the no1 best breakfast in the Chigwell area. I've been coming to The Open Cafe regularly since April. You will not find a better Cafe/Restaurant. A consistent 5***** every time.

Ham and cheese omelette was amazing

Poor hygiene , cofee was served in dirty cup. Ordered veg breakfast, quality was horrible, plate was a mess.

Popped in this cafe today, it was very busy which is always a good sign. Had scrambled egg on toast. Food is nice, quality and amount of food is good, price is decent, nice environment as it’s part of a golf course. A good cafe to go to in this area.

Was passing Hainault Golf course with my wife telling her how my father made me play golf with him at 5.30am when I was a kid. Popped into the cafe didn't know it was there, had the best Haddock and poached eggs I've had in years. Fresh as a daisy fish with perfectly poached eggs. Cheep, Great service clean free parking also. Be back soon for the Piri Piri chicken...

this is a great place to visit after golf or if you are just in the area, you are made wecome even if you only want a tea or coffee,but i am sure most people once they smell and see the food they will try some ,and you wont be dissapointed

Went there after golf, took ages to take the order. Food came 30minutes later. There one just one chef. And 3 other ladies standing and doing domestic work, we got out tea a pt the time of order so it was finished before food arrived, when it did cane it was ropey, egg was watery, and they forgot the toast, avoid and go to a proper cafe

i visited last Friday with my Golfing Pals and we decided to have a bite to eat before playing. After studying the amazingly varied and scrumptious menu i settled on the HOMEMADE Stilton Burger and Chips (i had a long day ahead and thought i could easily walk off the calories looking for my lost Balls ! ).Quite often when you ask for something homemade you get fobbed off with something out of a packet but my Burger was something else! it was cooked perfectly and the Cheese was perfectly melted without overdoing the Beef it covered.The Chips were thin and fantastic. i cannot wait to go again...a .Gentleman on another Table had ordered Homemade Lamb Kebabs with Rice and they looked amazing too.. I shall try a Full English next time...with proper Ketchup from a Bottle, with Beans from Heinz...Sausages from a local Butcher (that does my xmas Turkey for me) and Bacon from Bearfields )...i know this because i asked the owner...i know my Sausages and so does he!...i just wish they were open for Evening Meals too.... Great staff Great Food....i can't even remember my Golf score but i do remember the Burger was 10/10... See you soon

Called in for a snack lunch after reading earlier good reviews on here. They lived up to their press . Clean place with lovely welcoming staff . I had a Welsh rabbit, very tasty with plenty of lea and Perrin in the mix , perfect, I will call again.

This is a great cafe to visit whether you are playing golf or not.Situated in the Hainault golf course it has plenty of free parking.The quality of the food-especially the specials-is second to none.The presentation is of a high standard and value is excellent.The staff are very friendly and there is usually a few free newspapers to read while waiting for your food.The same regular faces are always sitting down to eat-a good sign in my book.Opening times are 6am-3.15pm.Highly recommended.

Out for a long walk through Hainault Forest we headed for the Open Cafe as I think this represents better fare and value than the cafe in the car park.

The food in offer is of very good quality.. The chef is passionate about the food he prepares and it shows. Service is brisk and the staff are very friendly. Everyone welcome... even if you are not a golfer. In fact I sometimes bring my family in the mornings to have breakfast even when I'm not playing golf.

What an amazing eatery! A Café?? If they awarded Michelin stars to cafés then this place should have them. Calves liver to die for, lamb chops brilliantly cooked, pork chops, and chicken and rice all fantastic. Always take the specials; freshly and expertly cooked. Intend taking friends there for lunch. Staff all very pleasant and nice. Local restaurants and pubs should take a leaf re quality of produce and cooking and service. Café of choice! NH

We arrived at the Open Cafe a little after noon, perhaps a busy time, but I still didn't expect to wait 24 mins for a tuna baguette. The cafe is warm and with big windows so it is possible to keep an eye on the bikes parked out front.

I had a Fantastic homemade burger, Mum had lamb shank which was really good with loads of fresh veg. This place is always really good, best cafe in the area by far!

I have been coming to The Open Cafe since it opened. Their Fish comes directly from Billingsgate. Their meat directly from Smithfield.

I have had breakfast at the Open café at least 6 times when playing golf on the Hainault course or using the driving range, the freshly cooked breakfast is great and plenty of it & good quality can fully recommend if you are passing and want good food and good service.

Gotta be the best fry up in town!!! Lunch time option = LAMB SHANKS. Best i've ever had.

Have eaten here many times over the years. As the Open Cafe this place does all the traditional English Breakfast options in abundance (very well) but also has a few more interesting options including decent and changing daily specials, freshly cooked and very tasty. Friendly service and as cheap as very cheap chips too. Decent coffee and well chilled soft drinks also available.
