Came here on a Saturday afternoon for some lunch with my partner and her mother. We were handed menus that were covered in grease and dirt along with the table being the exact same. Nothing was enticing on the menu so we decided to leave and pay for our drinksWe’re given dirty looks by the staff because we just had drinks. Clean your restaurant and change the menu and you can keep customers

Absolutely beautiful New years day meal, fantastic start to the year, staff were very helpful and attentive. Great selection on the menu, we had the pork belly and prawn pil pil starters both were amazing, my daughter loves mussels and we spotted that one of the specials had mussels on it so I asked would the chefs do us up a small bowl as a starter and they did, 5 stars for that. My wife went for the grilled seabass main course and cleaned the plate, I got the beef & reef - 10oz Sirloin cooked perfectly medium rare with a herb crusted prawn hot pot, garlic & Thyme roasted portobello mushrooms & shallots & a side of saute garlic potatoes all delicious, was a bit of a push but we opted for desserts! delicious chocolate brownie & crème brûlée, girls had ice cream with homemade shortbread. 2 Baileys coffee to finish off the meal. Definitely will be back and would highly recommend

Went for a family meal and after informing staff they had not taken our deposit off the bill we were met with absolute rudeness and disregard, I have never been spoken to in such a horrible manner, working in the customer service industry I know it can be tough but there was no excuse for the abuse we received from staff especially considering how nice and understanding we were about it, and they didn’t not refund us the money. Will not be back!! And absolutely do not recommend!!

We went here for a Christmas meal the food was lovely and the drinks were very well made. Staff on the night were attentive and made sure we were happy with our order. I have absolutely no complaints for the experience we had in this night. We paid our bill and headed to another place. In the next day, I realised I had paid a deposit of £20 for my booking which had not been removed from the receipt. When we split the bill the night before I had added these up by line item so knew my deposit was not taken off. When I rang up to inquire this, I was told “all deposits were removed from all bills last night” when I described that I had added up the line items and it had came to the amount we paid, they insisted that I was wrong and my deposit was somewhere on the receipt. As I had not brought the receipt they said there was nothing they could do. When we inquired if they could reprint the receipts their response was “no we can’t” when we asked why not, there was no reason as to why they couldn’t reprint a receipt from the night before. No checks were made to see if my deposit was taken off, instead I was made out to be wrong and that their staff could not have forgotten to take the deposit off. I will not be back here after the way the staff treated me the following day with a genuine query. Such a shame.

Hi, we were a party off 5 at the Oliver restaurant yesterday evening.. We have no complaints at all about the food. it was delicious. our problem was that we were NOT ALLOWED to pay for our drinks seperatly from our food bill. my Friend was paying for the food but i wanted to buy a round off drinksfor the table an pay there an then, i didnt want it added to the food bill.But the waitress insisted an said NO, THIS CANT BE DONE. everything has to go on he food bill... I was so annoyed at this.we left as soon as our food was ate an went somewhere else for drinks.i have never heard off this before.when i asked her why can i not pay seperatly i got no reply only NO CANT BE DONE.

We dropped in with no previous booking, seated straight away. Attentive staff. Lovely food and drink. Reasonably priced.

It was quiet when we called in here just after lunch, on the first day of the pubs opening for indoor service post lockdown .We had some wonderful cocktails to start.We had fish and chips and goats cheese and beetroot salad, both were lovely and large in portion size. The staff were very friendly.Plenty of hand gel and mask wearing in evidence.The toilets were clean.We were delighted to sit in a pub for a drink and a meal after waiting such a long time for restrictions to end.This pub is across from the Buttercrane Shopping Centre, right facing the river.We will call in again when in the area.

Ordering delivery from The Oliver has been something to look forward to, on another Saturday night in lock down. The food every time has been fresh, delicious and delivered hot. Their menu is fantastic and we are hoping they keep the Bao buns on permanently, they are simply delicious. You can choose the time of your delivery and the past couple of weeks they have also been giving complimentary drinks with each meal. Every member of the team I’ve dealt with has been friendly and professional. Well done. Highly recommend the Oliver.

Went to this place before xmas as someone recommended it, and thought it was brill. when i seen it was open for takeaway meals i couldn't wait to order that beef wellington. We had our food delivered, food was piping hot, they had a wee heat box in the van, delivered bang on time and everything perfect. cant wait to order again.

I went here with my gf on Wed night, and a great place to be, was greated by a lovely guy took us to our table gave us menus and was very smart about the menu, every question we asked he had the answer, was even better at selling my gf cocktails. lol. we ordered the korean burger and the steak sandwich, with wings to share as a starter, they even gave us little wipes for the wings, and a xmas cracker *nice touch*. the place was rammed was so busy although we may have to wait to get a waiters attention we didnt mind we just ordered two drinks at a time and when we finished the first we ordered two more etc. they let us stay on cuz the people what where supposed to turn up didnt. the korean burger is a must and my gf's steak sandwich was cooked to perfection. we stayed quite a while longer than expected (hit my wallet £8 cocktails be warned they good),as the vibe was great, music was so cool, they even let me buy a Budlight glass for my brothers xmas pressie. I asked someone what the playlist was but i cant remember now, please respond with the playlist at least. We will be back. from table 18

I went to this Restaurant with my family on 11th December we had the worst experience ever.. they had nothing I wanted for myself and kids like chicken curry, chicken nuggets, hotdogs, and more so we just went with a few side order, I sent them a txt later and here is their response

All restaurants are currently only allowed to open for takeaway or delivery, so thought we'd do our part and help to support local. After being very impressed with The Oliver's food and staff during Eat Out to Help Out we thought we would treat ourselves again. I ordered for collection and the food was sitting ready for me and still warm when I got home. The portion was very generous and the food was absolutely delicious. Everything was really fresh and tasty. Can't wait for next time!

Attended here with a few people from work during eat out to help out. I appreciate the place was very busy however when we booked we were reassured we would have our food in plenty of time to be back to work in one hour. My friend had my order although she had not been able to order until 1.20pm for a 1PM booking and at that stage I asked for a time scale for food and was told 25 mins. When I mentioned we had tried to prebook food but was not able to do so and we were on a timescale the server was not interested. I did not order thankfully as the food arrived at 1.55pm and I was due back at work at 2PM across the town. The people who did get food were not impressed either as food was not that good and it was rather expensive for what they received. We will NOT be back.

Card machine out of order. Pub without atmosphere. The music was booming from the speakers to cover the dreary mood. Food was tasty enough, but woke up during the night to drink water because meal was far too salty. Poor choice for vegetarians and celiacs.

The staff in this place are absolutely fantastic, so friendly and helpful. Asya is amazing, recommended us a great wine and couldn't do enough for us! She's amazing! We got the goats cheese and black pudding pithivier and pil pil prawns as starters. The goats cheese pithivier is amazing! Can't recommend it enough! Prawns were perfectly cooked too! We Got the steak sandwich, chicken pasta and the fillet steak as mains and it was empty plates all round. Was very very pleasantly surprised and will definitely be back!!

Took 20 mins after being seated for order to be taken which wasn't a promising start, food was ok, service not great, culminating in getting overcharged as the next table's drinks were added to our bill.

From the amazing food (my fav the sesame beef noodles ) to the yummy cocktails.. Great atmosphere to feeling really comfortable with the social distancing.. Staff were very welcoming and friendly.. 1st time in the Oliver and definitely wont be my last would highly recommend.. Thanks to all for a lovely night

We Phoned to make a reservation, when we arrived it seemed it did not matter as people where walking in and seating themselves at the 'bar' side of the restaurant the staff seemed ok with this, as they they were familiar with these 'regulars' The tables were all distanced apart at least 1m, and staff trying to distance tables as much as possible, we were seated in a low seating area on a bench possibly to seat 4 people The food and service was amazing but very slow, I waited 30mins for a 7up, because the staff forgot as they where overwhelmed from how busy it was, I noticed other tables did not have a chance to ask for desserts etc, as the 2 staff members on duty were busy seating, sanitising, pouring drinks, running food, and serving the 'illegal' drinks only customers.The food, when it finally arrived ,was first class, just a pitty I couldn't ask for some garlic butter as all the staff was busy Social Distancing was zero, staff were serving drinks and handing menus pretending to serve food, Contact tracing was taken at my table even though it seemed to be a random processI just don't feel comfortable eating in this place operating as it is, contributing to the spread of COVID-19

Following some Christmas shopping with my 7 year old daughter we went to Oliver's for some dinner. Having had a very busy day we were extremely hungry and honestly weren't that fussy where we wen, we simply wanted something to eat.I ordered the Salmon which was complexly flavourless and my daughter ordered the fish and chips which she couldn't eat (and she loves her food). This experience was very disappointing.The chef is just using cheap processed produce.On a positive not the staff were really nice.

Went to the Oliver tonight loved the food and staff and service was first class function on up stairs it was warm and cosy will be back

We visited The Oliver Thursday evening with friends. Warm and cozy place with good atmosphere. We ordered from the steak and seafood menu they run every Thursday (2 courses/sides and botle of wine) + an extra dish. The food was outstanding! We all enjoyed it. Good drinks and friendly and helpful staff.We'll definitely be back.

Visited the Oliver for tea. I was greeted with a warm smile that epitomised the natural ambience of the place. Having been seated and served a drink I ordered from the specials menu. The tastiest fish medley I have ever eaten. Waiting time was normal, price was reasonable but the experience was incredible.

Visited the oliver today and it was a terrible experience. I ordered the mushroom risotto with a side of chips to share. After waiting about 45 minutes (there were only 2 other tables) the food was inedible. The risotto was so bland and was full of runner beans which tasted old, I put vinegar on it to try salvage the meal but that didnt work. The "ciabatta" was a half toasted bit of baguette. The chips tasted like they had been left over from yesterday and refried. The whole mean was awful so I left without eating. The staff however were lovely. Would not recommend and would advise the chef to rework the recipe.

Visited the Oliver for lunch today, my friend and I both had the risotto and a side of chips, both to say the least were inedible, after waiting at least 45 minutes despite it not being that busy, we tried covering the food in vinegar but even this couldn’t salvage the food, the rissoto was completely tasteless, the ‘ciabatta’ was dry and bland and the chips were gross, worst meal I have ever eaten. Very disappointing, such a shame as the staff are very pleasant but we will not be back.

We dined here with a group of friends on a Thursday steak night . Excellent food . Great value for money. The restaurant had been recently renovated and is very nice and comfortable. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend it.

Happen by chance to come upon the pub/restaurant. We were greeted by lovely friendly staff and what a beautiful lunch. would highly recomend this place.

I arranged dinner for a party of 14 semi-abled senior citizens for a Tuesday evening, with a pre-arranged set menu. As soon as we were all seated, we were offered complimentary soup - totally unexpected. Everyone was blown away with the service, the quality of food and the amount. And everyone was so very happy with everything that we rebooked to go again next month. Staff were brilliant; so patient and helpful. Thank you Cathy and to your team. Looking forward to seeing you in September.

Called in to The Oliver today after a day's shopping in Newry with my wife, where greeted by a very friendly barman who showed us to a very clean and well presented table, he explained the menu and the specials in great detail, we had a very large portion of delicious chicken wings, and for our mains I had the rack of lamb which was to die for, while my wife went for the beautiful fish platter, another large portion, the young lady that looked after us was extremely helpful and very polite. So 10 out of 10 to the chef and staff of The Oliver, we shall return, thank you.

I will definitely comeback! I get chicken wings for starter. Was really good and it was served simple but in a nice way.For my main I chose chickpea and quinoa burger with garlic chips that was unbelievable. My gf got chicken with amazing leek sauce. Overall lovely good and well presented food.

Went for lunch, last week with my family, as soon as we walked in, we were treated to amazing food and service...we didn't know the menu so asked for a few starters at the waitress recommendation, goujons succulent, breads board chargrilled, dips delisous, and have to say my sister especially loved the prawns, and that was only the starters! The mains were amazing as well!!! Great wee discovery, right next to main shopping centre, parking available. My family have booked again for next week. Thank you Ross and Cathy.

Was here a few months ago.. food was average and service wasn’t great.... won’t be back...kids were allowed to run around place.

We were in Newry for some shopping and called into the Oliver. Was surprised as it was a nice place with good food. We had a special of meatballs and spaghetti. The food was good and enjoyable.

My friend and I thought we would like to try this place. We had the deep fried mushroom starter and shared this, it was very nice. Then we had the fish sampler, and that was very good. The service was very pleasant and we had no waiting time at all. Glad we came here and tried it out and hope to come back. The one thing we are sorry about is the parking, it is really hard to find a parking space nearby, especially if you are handicapped.

Nice service but restaurant smelled a bit like bleach and was a tat cold. Food okaish but fries bit flavourless hamburger nothing special, fish and chips same. Coffee really tasteless.

Lovely dinner. We had the wings & mushrooms for starters. Wings were delicious, mushrooms were lovely although a bit under seasoned. We both had the chicken & pasta dishes. Generous portions & reasonably priced. Very friendly service. Interior is lovely. Will def come back

two of us went for a meal here Saturday evening 2/3/2019 and had ordered two steaks and told the waitress to cook them very well done, she came back to the table with our meals [ THREE QUARTERS HOUR LATER] and the steaks were medium rare, we ask her to take them away she did so, and then returned [ ANOTHER 15 MINUTES LATER] with our meals only to find that the steaks was RARE, we told the waitress to forget about the meals, and we left this place, and went over to the anglers rest in banbridge were the steaks was cooked to our liking , WE WONT BE BACK AT THE OLIVER,

I called in on a Saturday night, Great food, Great service. The Oliver is worth visiting. Cocktails are amazing.

Popped in for a drink and a snack whilst out shopping. Attentive waitress lead me to a table close to the roaring log stove. As we were only looking a snack I ordered the chicken wings with hot sauce + my daughter tried the spring rolls.

Nice table overlooking river. Had the stack burger absolutely fantastic, best tasting burger we have eaten on the island of Ireland. Desserts also pretty good. Good service and a nice ambience.

The Oliver is a great place to eat and drink! Burgers are delicious and the cocktails are yummy! Honestly think they should do something with upstairs though, it would be great as a disco/ some music on a saturday night as it would be somewhere different to go! Or even some live music!?

Friday night in the Oliver 2 adults 2 kids. Hospitality at its best from start to finish! First time being here, and can’t wait to go back. Food 10/10 service 10/10, and the magic word HOSPITALITY 10/10 all to make a great atmosphere for the patrons. Just need a baby sitter now!!!!

popped in for a birthday lunch and got gorgeous chicken goujons. Ever since I've been itching to get back for a dinner service! Staff are really good craic and very helpful. Glad to see this place doing well.

Went here last weekend for lunch with my other half. Such a lovely wee place and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Menu had a good selection and all reasonably priced. Will definitely visit again if down that direction and would highly recommend.

Ok everyone, I'm a honest reviewer and despite being in The Oliver a few times, seriously encountered immense hospitality with the doing a demo on the German beer for the lads to Marie Threse the owner giving a great steer on their menu. I've previously had Tapas there and the range of food on here is so impressive, sauce and bedding (rice/cabbage style veg) is a perfect accompaniment to either their satay kebabs (to die for) or their spring rolls. Seafood Chowder is made to order, if like me you hate muscles, then you're sorted! Chowder is creamy, fresh and packed with an assortment of fish. 4 of our party had fillet steak on a great £35 for two deal that also setved two types of mushroom, gratin potato and tobacco onions as WELL AS a choice of side - creamy mash, sweet potato fries and two chunky chips was the choice of our party. Huge tick from everyone and all said they were very impressed, especially with the pepper sauce.

First time in Newry. Just happened to pass the Oliver. Not only a warm relaxing welcome from the friendly and staff but a great pint followed by a succulent burger and fat chip's. What is also mentionable is the eclectic decor without been pretensious.i highly recommend you to visit if passing by. Thank you and we will definitely return.

We called in on a Saturday evening without pre-booking and were welcomed and seated within minutes. Very pleasant staff and the food was both beautiful and great value for money. We will definitely be visiting again on our next trip to Newry.

Just called in for a casual meal. Chicken strips as a starter were excellent. Very tender, STEPHEN looked after us very well ( he was very business but still pleasant with no stress ) providing a meal which was not on the evening menu, salmon and stir fry noodles. Delicious. We also got a burger which was generous in size and taste. We will call back. Excellent service, food and value. Well done Stephen, you’re the reason we have booked again this weekend.

A pleasant restaurant with a nice atmosphere and the food was amazing, cooked perfectly and the staff were so friendly and kind . I will be visiting this restaurant soon.

1st encounter of The Oliver....we waited about 5mins to be seated. it was busy and very noisy ... between children running around and Tv's blaring football.

I visited the Oliver yesterday evening as I had only good reports about it. It did not disappoint! The decor is lovely and cosy... the waitress and waiter were both very helpful and friendly! The food was GORGEOUS and VERY reasonably priced as well, hooray! I had the goats cheese bonbons to start and the pollo lorenzo! My boyfriend had the garlic mushrooms and chicken stirfry... everything, including the side salad was absolutely delightful! I am raging I didnt visit before last night... but I will certainly be back! 11/10

Went on Sunday past, wasn't overly busy so service was quick. For 2 turkey and ham dinners, a diet coke and a pint bottle of magners at £23 was great. Highly recommend for the great staff, food and value.

Had late lunch here yesterday with some friends. The waiter/barman was very friendly and helpful. Off the lunch menu he recommended the Hunter Chicken. I asked about the Beer Battered Cod, he didn't like fish.1 of us had chicken, the other 2 the cod. There was about 15% max fish inside an awful lot of batter. The chips were good, though, as was the Erdinger. When the waiter came to clear our plates, I informed him I wasn't happy with fish. My plate was more or less full with batter. Was very surprised on presentation of bill that hadn't been taken into account.

Right, wanted to give this place a try because the owner has done good things previously around the town. Four of us in for dinner and it was ordinary at best. Dirty glasses and silverware. Boring menu, items that didn’t come with what was listed on the menu. Ordered wine which was thankfully a screw top as server didn’t bother to open it, just plunked it down in middle of the table. Poorly cooked food with steak temps all wrong. It was busy enough but that’s no excuse for the experience. May try again but will be asking around to see if anyone had better times than us, possibly just a bad night.

I went here for dinner with my boyfriend at the weekend. II was very dissapointed with the menu and the service. There was no offer's on and starters and desserts were all priced separately. Quality of food was average, I prefer to go to Jackie's Bar and Restaurant in Dundalk, the service and food is to a very high standard and you get 3 courses for 25 EURO inc steak. The Lisdoo is also top quality food and the same 3 courses for 25 EURO. The service is also very bad at Olivers there was only 1 man serving at the bar and had to wait ages to be served. I will not be returning and in future will be going to Dundalk, where it is top quality food and excellent value for money.

The prawn tagliatelle is to die for. I don’t know what’s in that sauce, but it’s better than Christmas. If yr in town, call in. Great ambience and no trouble getting seats on Mondays. 11/10 again.

We came here for Sunday lunch & really enjoyed the food. I had a cheeseburger & my husband had the steak. The portion sizes were really good & the food was delicious. We also had dessert - apple crumble with custard & icecream, The staff were friendly.The only complaint was that our dinner dishes weren't cleared away & we had to ask for the dessert menu but this could have been because it was busy. We'll be back again.

I first visited this restaurant when it opened its doors. Myself and a bunch of friends left another establishment to have cocktails at The Oliver as they had been recommended by a work friend. Once we arrived we sat for 15 minutes (the bar wasn't overly busy) After waiting and waiting one of my friends got up to ask could we see a cocktail menu. The response from the girl behind the bar wasn't what she had expected. She told her they didn't do cocktails and that none of them did know how to make them. My friend then asked for the wifi and she once again (with her half assed answer) told her it wasn't working yet. We went back and decided to leave. There was no atmosphere, the staff were extremely rude and couldn't care less. The second time I went here was about two months ago. I know there's new ownership but again I was very disappointed. I ordered the chicken curry after waiting ages on a menu. Again this was lunch time and the place wasn't busy at all. Around 6 couples and afew at the bar who weren't eating. The chicken curry was eatable but nothing I couldn't make at home. It wasn't overly expensive which is the reason for my two star rating. Whilst waiting an eternity for the sweet menu, a couple sitting across from me had ordered drinks which the bar woman mixed up not once but 3 times. The plates were still sitting on the table and finally once the owner came in, she came to my Daughter and I straight away to clear the table and give us the sweets menu. She was lovely to chat. Twice I've been disappointed with this place which is a real shame. It would take a lot for me to return here as I've lost all trust in it being enjoyable.

Had an evening meal here with friends. It was a Saturday night and the restaurant was busy. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. As for the food it was absolutely delicious. The garlic mushrooms could have been more garlicky though! For the main I had Polo Lorenzo, a lovely chicken dish with chorizo, very very tasty. Everyone was pleased with their meal. The price is about average. Music started later in the evening and the duet were fantastic. All in all a great evening. Thank you The Oliver!

We were in Newry for the day and wanted to grab a quick bite to eat before heading home.Stumbled across the Oliver by chance but we were really pleased with the quality and price of their food. I had the Hunter's Chicken and my wife had the Chicken Curry which were both terrific.We will definitely be making a return visit when in the area.

Had to grab a quick meal with my wife after dropping the kids to youth club. Hadn't been before and was pleasantly surprised at the relaxed atmosphere, good curry (could have been hotter for my personal taste), my wife said her herb crusted salmon was perfect, and great staff. The waiter knew we were on the clock and made sure service was prompt. Looking forward to be back again with the whole family for a longer meal..and more courses.

Having visited this restaurant on a couple of occasions I had high hopes for a good meal with a few friends. The first visit was opening week with the upstairs dining area in full swing and very busy indeed. The food was good, the menu interesting and varied and the service of a high standard. Our recent visit was somewhat different. The only option to eat was the downstairs bar which wasn't particularly inspiring or overly busy. My food was not cooked as ordered and I after a long wait I ended up eating a rehashed main (which was still incorrect) long after the rest of the group had finished theirs. Service was uninterested and an adjustment on the bill was not offered for the mess. The quality of food and service had dipped significantly it seems unfortunately.

This restaurant is amazing!! From the excellent staff who make you feel at home once you arrive through the door to the delicious food served from the kitchen!

My daughter and I wanted lunch but not a full meal before going shopping. The Oliver is just across the bridge within easy walking distance of the Buttercrane Centre. We had a lovely lunch with friendly service. I had beetroot and goat's cheese - very tasty. We shared some chips. Good value, handy and quick

A new restaurant in a site where many restaurants have failed in Newry. Few punters around the bar drinking which creates a nice atmosphere. Food is tasty and plentiful. Wait for food was too long which was why only 4 stars. Staff very friendly

We visited one Friday for lunch .the menu was good for lunch we had the burgers and hunters chicken both with skinny fries .the food was presented lovely and tasted great .it was cheap 28 pound for 4 ..the staff were great and it's well worth a visit if in newry
