The olive tree fish bar in Birmingham

I asked for salad, on my kebab, the extremely miserable young girl behind the counter forgot (which is fine). When I reminded her about the salad she looked at me like I was seriously inconveniencing her - as did she with everything we asked for in our order. When I got home and opened my kebab (as you can see from my picture) I found she had put probably less than a teaspoon of salad on my kebab, and it felt like a slap in the face for even asking. The food itself was pretty good, but unfortunately my experience was ruined by the complete lack of customer service.

Last few times I have used this chip shop the staff are miserable and rude like they don't want to be there let alone take your order, the young girl with the long dark hair (which is never in a hair net and is hanging all over the food) we stood and watched her touch her hair then serve up the food.... no hygiene there... and as for the food, the kebab meat is dry and tasteless and the chips are greasy but dry and totally overcooked.... very disappointing

Nice food and very friendly and gave me free curry sauce after I forgot to ask for it. Highly reccomend!

Had the salmon rice & salad with mint yoghurt 😋 but salmon quite small.

Driest kebab I’ve ever tasted ! This was bloody awful. We were the only people in the shop, so no excuse. I was so excited to find a Turkish or Greek kebab. I asked for no onions as I’m on Keto, I got onions all mixed in, the meat was so overdone it was difficult to swallow, it felt like we were an inconvenience He did actually put a couple of chips in for my young daughter. This was the only positive. I’m gutted I thought this was gonna be a good call. Avoid at all costs

New to the area so I called up to see if this local chippy was halal and was told by a guy with an accent that everything was halal BUT the pies (which is normal in other chippys) to then go in today to be told that the sausages are pork and only the doner is halal. Disgusting to give false info like that. Thankfully I ordered fish n chips but got to say it was so small and soooo salty! Won’t be supporting this business again unfortunately.

Worst chips I've had for a long time Absolute rip off £7.10 for chips and 2 scallop, granted it was late in the day, but to serve rubbish like that and not offer a discount, apology, or offer to cook fresh shows a total lack of care or pride in their work Staff very pleasant indeed Place very pleasant This is why I usually travel to Erdington or kingstanding for chips where there is far better value for money. I've just been back 3 years later and nothing has changed I'd be thoroughly embarassed to serve those excuse for chips to anyone

Very hit and miss, many changes of hand. Sometimes the food is supreme, other times its just, ok. Would love to see consistency, the location gives this place an excellent opportunity for premium food which it once had and needs to bring it back

Visited last night ordered cone of chips portion of curry sauce. Chips were disgusting dry looked like they had been cooked the previous week zero taste. The curry sauce very bland zero taste will not return. When it first opened the food and service was very good however over time the food and service has gone way down hill I will not be returning!

Sorry guys you've lost the plot. A 15 minute wait for mushy peas. After we had microwaved the fish & chips we genuinely couldn't tell which was the medium & which was the small. Poorest meal I've had in over 20 years as a customer.

I have really gone off Gish and Chips as over the years they are just not like I remembered as a child - however they chips from here were spot on and just the way I like them. Perfect!

£8 per person for mini fish and chips. Chinese or Indian would have been tastier and fresher for the money we spent. Very disappointing!

Great selection of standard chippy items and kebabs and the price of fish is very reasonable compared to the prices being charged in other chip shops. The naan kebabs are absolutely amazing and difficult to eat in one sitting. A great chippy and highly recommended.

The fish & chips were the best I have had for years! from anywhere, I normally peel or break off the batter one side & leave it (too heavy/greasy) but it was so light it flaked away with the white fish delicious 😋

Never again would I use or recommend this takeaway. My wife and myself had 2 small cod and chips , which I can honestly say were quite possibly the worst we’d ever eaten. This fish was dry and tasteless and the chips undercooked. This used to be a good chip shop!

I had the king prawn grill with salad and chips. Nice chips, lots of salad, however, you have to peel the prawns yourself, they were bland, no flavor whatsoever. For the price of £8.90 - not worth it.

Terrible large kebab what a waste of time hardly any meat, more bread than anything would have been better off ordering a salad kebab, massively overpriced won’t be back, this used to be the best place around

Absolutely appalling, ordered the chicken kebab with rice and it was awful, the chicken for starters was not cooked properly, give the elderly man on the grill a meat thermometer to check if it's cooked, no flavour or spice to the food rice was bland like it's out of a minute microwave and the price £9 not worth it at all, also smile it doesn't cost to give good customer service definitely won't be returning ever again!! Should be a option for 0*

If I could go back in time I would because this place is RANCID uncooked chicken from the grill and bland rice even hospital food is better than this, £18 wasted and i will NEVER return here again even if u paid me digusting food never again!

Have ordered from here hundreds of times through Uber Eats. Last two orders of chicken meat and chips were an absolute joke. After arriving thirty minutes late, was presented with a child size portion consisting of the grand total of about twelve chips and bits of chicken scraps. All this for the price of over nine pounds. After complaining on the Uber eats app I received not a word of an apology or any response whatsoever. Absolutely appalling and I advise anyone to give this place a miss.

First time I ordered from this place. Had a grilled chicken skewer on Nan. Absolutely delicious and also had a large fish n chips. I’d say one of the best around. Staff were friendly and helpful. See for yourself. Vast choice of menu and great service

I have been going to Olive Tree for years....& INDEED Before That I used to Attend Their Other Restaurant within their Family in Boldmere for Some Years Before it Closed, And had Found Both Quite Excellent.... But I Must say that on my last 3 Visits to Olive Tree, I Not Only Found the Quality of the Kebab Wanting, And Not to Standards Set by Themselves Over The Previous years....But Also On Every Occasion of the 3 Visits, I Was Overcharged... I know One is Only Talking of £1.55 ,& Only £1.75 ,/OR £1.00 ....But it's the Principle that Matters...& One Would Not Wish to get in to an Argument with the young girl Over a £1.00, With a Que of People Waiting Behind You.... Nonetheless I Still Wish Them All the Best in the Future ... Dr.B.Potten

Avoid!! These guys serve kebab meat like it’s coming out of their wages! Small portions, actually feel conned by them. Kebab bland, chips bland and soggy, savaloy was good but other than that just dreadful. I can forgive the bad quality, everyone has off days but charging full whack and cheating customers with small portions is taking the mick. There are some terrible chippys in Birmingham but this might be the worst of the lot.

Don't bother. Usually order from here every week, but last few times things have been missing from my order. Called the shop this evening, explaining that things were missing and they refused to give refund or send missing items. To top it off, food arrived cold and kebab was just thrown together. Will not be ordering again. Shocking.

The food is great and the previous owners had this place working like clockwork. Now the service is terrible and the staff have an attitude! You have to wait 20 minutes to make an order and then another 40 minutes for you food!

Without fail I am always made to wait because they are understaffed and prioritise online orders. Todays wait has been 45 mins at the front of the queue and not even acknowledged and no apology.

The Olive Tree Fish Bar & Mediterranean Grill isn't my personal favourite fish & chips but when I do come here it is always clean with hot and fresh food. I would recommend people who are near to come here.

Lovely large cod fish and chips and very tasty large mixed kebab. Chip portion generous, kebab meat portion less so, but very tasty nonetheless. Fish was yummy. Price slightly above average but reflected in quality which couldn't fault. Been here before, will go again!

The food is good to be honest nice range freshly cooked , however the guy in black behind the counter wow i have never met to such an arrogant bully in my life. the older guy behind the counter was being bullied the whole time i was there. When i ordered i was growled at that i should of ordered on arrival. the board says items which are starred my items (in fact most of the board didnt). Dont order halloumi they never have it. Generally great food so good customer service

Had Scottish Cod & Chips this evening. Cod ok but nothing special. New Potatoes now frying for chips, always find them a bit too greasy😫. Overall OK but nothing special

Me and my husband went to this chip shop first time today and I asked the girl who served me for my meat to be a little well done as I’m pregnant, she happily agreed, I waited outside while my husband waited for our food, who told me that who he believed to be the owner being very rude and insulting out loud that I asked for the meat well done, won’t be going to this place again bad attitude and poor customer service skills

Average chippy. Staff are great. but portion sizes seem to be getting smaller and smaller. Especially so when you compare it to others in the area.

Generally this chip shop is just above average. The staff could be more friendlier (my 4th visit) however my main gripe is the portion sizes. In comparison to the other shops in the area the portions are small. I understand that the prices have a premium as the shop falls under the Sutton Coldfield postcode.. but let's at least stick to the correct portion sizes.. you can't exaggerate prices & serve smaller portions.. that is not fair... (I feel cheated) one or the other... then again, you can do whatever you want right? I will not come back. I only came back because the other chip shop was closed... Problem solved.

We have ordered kebab meat and chips and nuggets in the past and it’s been nice but quite pricey. Currently being on a low carb diet I tried the grilled prawns and the grilled chicken. Both were disappointing, tasting largely flavourless and strange. Won’t be buying them again.

I saw the fresh fish being delivered here not frozen fish like 99% of chip shops. The best chip shop in the midlands by far. As good as in Whitby. I travel there from Selly Oak!!

The best fast food you can get in Mere Green.

The chips always taste freshly cooked. Their range of food looks tempting though as a vegetarian I havent sampled alot of what's on offer. The last time I visited I noticed they were now doing greek dips and baklava- something I will definite buy on another visit

Great fish and chip shop. I quite often go here and am very pleased most of the time. Some times I ask for no vinegar but salt and get vinegar but no salt. Most of the time they get it right and when you do it tastes nice. Would recommend. It also quite local to me but might be different to you. Overall good place.

Yet to have a bad takeaway from here. Eve thing seems cooked from fresh . The Greek kebabs and salads beautiful, also along with a small range of Greek desserts like baklava . They have also handled the current covid 19 crisis very well , ordering over the phone and collecting at the door.

Have used this chip shop for 6 years and over the last few months it has really gone down. Change in staff where you have to repeat your order 2/3 times. Lastest meal yesterday was horrible, kebab meat was like rubber as if it was from the day before and hardly any mayo/sauce. Will be avoiding from now on.

Popped in for some of the Turkish food they offer but everything I ordered of the menu I was told that they dont do that it took about 4 attempts to try and order something they actually do off their own menu. Food was ok but nothing to shout about.
